Spin Master Ltd. Extends Tenkai Knights Brand
 

After the recent launch of the Tenkai Knights by Ionix construction toy line, Spin Master Ltd. has expanded its U.S. licensing portfolio  with new consumer product initiatives for the Tenkai Knights brand. Accessory Innovations has signed on for backpacks, bags, and cold weather accessories; Bentex for sleepwear; Franco for bedding, accessories, and beach and bath products; Freeze for T-shirts and hoodies; and Penguin Group for publishing. All of the new product lines will be available in August.

Adding to the brand extension is a newly piloted sampling program integrated into Santa’s Village at Simon mall locations throughout the U.S. This holiday season, more than 75,000 kids will get to experience the shape-shifting magic of Tenkai Knights and Ionix for themselves through the program.
 
The Tenkai Knights TV show, which airs on Saturday mornings on Cartoon Network with additional airing on Fridays and Sundays, is a unique U.S. and Japanese co-production that plays to the strengths of each partner. The Spin Master entertainment team worked hand-in-hand with Shogakukan-Shueisha (ShoPro), one of the world’s best anime producers, to create a first class animated series. Tenkai Knights has a unique style; mixing traditional 2-D animation with CGI to create a distinct look.

 

Sony Launches 30th Anniversary Merchandising Program for Ghostbusters
 

Ghostbusters will be celebrating its 30th Anniversary next year. Sony Pictures Consumer Products (SPCP) will launch a program targeting the core fan base with products in categories such as apparel, toys, construction, collectibles, and publishing.
 
SPCP has partnered with pop culture art gallery, Gallery 1988 to create a traveling art show designed by top artists, which will include their interpretations of Ghostbusters over the last 30 years. Limited-edition screen prints and posters will be available during each stop of the tour, which will conclude at Comic-Con International in San Diego.
 
Global toy, publishing, and apparel licensees supporting the 30th anniversary include Mattel, IDW Publishing, World Tech Toys, Quantum Mechanics, Factory Entertainment, Diamond Select, Medicom Toys, Mad Engine, Titan Figures, Uniqlo, Kaientai, and BCI. Partners such as Beeline, Ubisoft, GSN, Path, XMG, and IGT will be supporting with interactive, gaming, and slot machines as well as MDI with state lottery programs. In the collectibles category, Funko will offer pop vinyl collectibles and Underground Toys will provide novelty products.

Marvel Partners with C-Preme Ltd. for Active Play Safety Products
 

Marvel Entertainment LLC and C-Preme Ltd. have partnered for a new line of helmets with 3-D designs that will provide a new entry point into the active play category for Marvel. The products will incorporate bold colors and highly stylized imagery of Marvel superheroes, including The Avengers and Spider-Man, for helmets and other protective gear. The line will hit retail shelves in February, leading into the release of Marvel’s Captain America: The Winter Soldier in April and Columbia Pictures’ The Amazing Spider-Man 2 in May.
 
Adorned with 3-D visual features, the line will tap into each character’s core iconography. Thor’s winged helmet will be brought to life and Captain America’s indestructible shield will feature a mesmerizing effect. These designs take a fresh approach in a traditional category by transforming the protective gear into something unexpected, fun, and cool.
 
The C-Preme helmet line comes on the heels of a recently announced line of Marvel Superhero bicycles and tricycles from Huffy, further enhancing Marvel’s move into the active play category.

Big Tent Entertainment, Mighty Fine Debut Line of Fan-Designed Domo Products
 

Big Tent Entertainment has signed a new deal with Mighty Fine that will bring Domo designs created by fans to apparel, accessories, cell phone covers, and art prints. Through a fan-driven online contest, Mighty Fine will target Domo fans and newcomers, engaging them to harness their creativity for a completely fan-created and approved line of apparel and accessories.
 
Beginning in the spring, consumers will be able to submit their own Domo designs at welovefine.com for the chance to be featured on a wide range of products that will be sold at retail stores and pop culture conventions. The winning designs will begin appearing on merchandise in the spring, with a youth apparel line using the designs slated for January 2015. Both Domo and Mighty Fine boast large online communities that will be harnessed for the partnership.

tokidoki, Sanrio Collaborate on Limited-Edition Holiday Collection
 

tokidoki has partnered with Sanrio on a limited edition tokidoki x Sanrio Characters holiday collection. Following the brands’ tokidoki x Hello Kitty collection, this new collection features bright and colorful co-branded products showcasing fans’ favorite tokidoki and Sanrio characters, including Adios, Ciao Ciao, Stellina, Hello Kitty, Keroppi, Badtz-Maru, and more. The broad product assortment includes charms; ornaments; women’s T-shirts; bags; smartphone, tablet, and computer cases; plush; toys; and luggage.
The collection is available now at the tokidoki flagship store in Los Angeles, Sanrio boutiques nationwide, and www.tokidoki.it, and www.sanrio.com.

IMG Licensing Set to Expand Yamaha Motor Corp. USA Brand in North America
 

Yamaha Motor Corp. USA has partnered with IMG Licensing, a division of the global sports, fashion, and media company IMG Worldwide, to exclusively manage and expand Yamaha Motor Corp. USA’s licensing business in North America.

Under the terms of the multi-year licensing representation agreement, IMG Licensing will work closely with the Yamaha licensing team to effectively manage its current licensee base and create new business opportunities that extend the brand into different lifestyle categories throughout North America.   

Yamaha is a leader in the motorsports industry, with products in all segments, including motorcycles, ATVs, side-by-side vehicles, outboard marine engines, scooters, personal watercraft, snowmobiles, boats, golf carts, and more.

 

Lawless Entertainment Signs Animation Deal with Trixter Canada for Suzy’s Zoo Series
 

Lawless Entertainment has signed a deal with Trixter Canada to produce an animation series based on the Suzy’s Zoo property. The animated series, tentatively titled The Wonderful World of Suzy’s Zoo, will consist of 26 half-hour episodes and is targeted toward kids ages 2 to 5. Each episode will follow the playful characters of Suzy’s Zoo as they embark on world adventures with their friends.
 
Suzy’s Zoo was created by award-winning artist Suzy Spafford in 1968 and celebrates its 45th anniversary this year.

Bellator MMA Partners with AALMG for New Licensing Program
 

Bellator MMA has partnered with All-American Licensing & Management Group (AALMG) to develop a line of lifestyle products, including a collection of apparel and accessories; video, interactive, and mobile games; sports and fitness equipment; and nutritional products and workout gear.
 
Bellator just completed its highly anticipated ninth season, which featured the Bellator debut of MMA icon Quinton “Rampage” Jackson, along with a host of World Title fights, including MMA superstars Eddie Alvarez, Michael Chandler, Daniel Straus, and Pat Curran. The season averaged more than 750,000 viewers per week, making it the highest rated MMA promotion on cable, trumping UFC. Bellator consistently saw peak ratings at more than 1 million viewers during its biggest fights, including a 1.4 peak during the long awaited Michael Chandler vs. Eddie Alvarez rematch.

Sesame Street, Redan Publishing Team Up for New Magazine
 

Redan Publishing Inc. has partnered with Sesame Workshop, the non-profit educational organization behind the children’s TV show, to launch Fun to Learn Sesame Street Magazine. Aimed at early learners, every issue contains stories, an educational and interactive 16-page pull-out activity workbook, and an original Sesame Street poster.
The 36-page, bi-monthly magazine has already started retailing at newsstands, and is also available by subscription online. The other members of the Fun to Learn family of magazines include Thomas & Friends, Fun to Learn Friends, Scooby Doo, Strawberry Shortcake, and Sparkle World.

Performance Brands Signs Brandgenuity as Sub-Agent in North America for Clumsy Ninja
 

Performance Brands has appointed Brandgenuity as the North American subagent of PB Digital for Clumsy Ninja, the worldwide mobile game from NaturalMotion Games.

Foot Locker, NBA Launch New Expanded Multi-Year Marketing Partnership
 

The National Basketball Association (NBA) and Foot Locker have signed a new multi-year comprehensive marketing partnership that makes Foot Locker an official marketing partner of the league. As part of this partnership, Foot Locker will continue as the title partner of the Foot Locker Three-Point Contest, an event featuring the NBA’s best competing against one another in a long range contest. Foot Locker has been the title partner of this competition since 2004.   

Foot Locker will unveil “Kicks of All-Star,” a new fan engagement program that will live on a branded section of NBA.com to highlight the different sneakers worn by NBA players throughout NBA All-Star. In addition, Foot Locker will debut its campaigns and will have a significant presence on NBA digital properties NBA TV and NBA.com. The partnership will bring the excitement of the NBA to kids by aligning the NBA Hoop Troop program with Kids Foot Locker to conduct a variety of retail activities and promotions.
 
This new agreement also extends to Canada, where Foot Locker will help further grow basketball and engage fans by participating in marquee NBA events throughout the season, as well as by conducting a variety of NBA-themed promotions in stores nationwide. Through this partnership, Foot Locker will also support live NBA events in Canada, including NBA Canada Series, which features NBA preseason games, and the NBA Big Tour, an interactive fan event.

The Wildflower Group, H-OI Partner for Bombay Licensing Program
 

The Wildflower Group has partnered with global trading company Hermes-OTTO International USA on a broad-based lifestyle licensing and merchandising program for Bombay. Bombay is known for quality home furnishings with an exotic flair for consumers with a taste for adventure. Property owner H-OI and The Wildflower Group are developing a strategy for Bombay that will capture the brand’s global inspiration and satisfy consumers with an expanded range of products to meet their home furnishing and decorating needs.
 
The Wildflower Group is working to expand the Bombay brand into a wide-ranging program that includes kitchen textiles, home office essentials, fabric and upholstery, flooring, home storage/organization, seasonal décor, bathroom fixtures, luggage/travel accessories, and men’s and women’s gifts for mid-tier and specialty retailers. Currently available at retail are offerings by Powell Furniture and JLA Home Fashions. Collections from Lifetime Brands and Arden Companies will debut next year.
 

Heritage Lace Signs on as Newest Downton Abbey Licensee
 

Knockout Licensing has granted Heritage Lace the rights to produce a line of home décor products, including table textiles, kitchen textiles, window treatments, pillows, shower curtains, gift accessories, and women’s lace accessories inspired by Downton Abbey. The products will be available in the first quarter of next year.
 

Family Guy Mobile Game Set to Launch Next Year
 

Twentieth Century Fox has partnered with mobile game developer TinyCo to create a new Family Guy mobile game. The game will feature a new, original story influenced by the show’s 212-episode catalogue and current events.
 
“Family Guy is an amazing show that’s famous for its sharp wit, unpredictable storytelling, and hilarious cast of characters,” said Suli Ali, CEO of TinyCo. “We’re capturing that essence and providing players with an awesome way to get their Family Guy fix every day.”

BBC Worldwide Announces 2014 Toy Fair Lineup
 

BBC Worldwide UK will introduce its first CBeebies and Sarah & Duck ranges at next year’s Toy Fair, as well as Something Special, Charlie & Lola, and Walking With Dinosaurs properties.
 
BBC Worldwide UK has signed with Golden Bear Toys earlier this year to be its master toy partner on a new range of CBeebies toys launching in the fall of next year. 
 
The Sarah & Duck plush toys from Posh Paws will also make their debut at Toy Fair.
The Something Special toy range from Golden Bear will expand next year. New toys include Mr. Tumble – Head, Shoulders, Knees, and Toes, which aids learning through a childhood song.
 
To coincide with the theatrical global release of Walking With Dinosaurs in 3-D in December, a range of new product for the Walking With Dinosaurs brand launches under the BBC Earth banner.
 
All BBC Worldwide UK’s licensed merchandise will be housed at its partner licensees’ stands while the company will seek additional and new opportunities for its leading and upcoming brands, including Doctor Who. 
 

 

Brand Extensions Russia Announces kimmidoll Deal
 

Brand Extensions Russia has announced a major stationery agreement with Academy Group for the kimmidoll brand in Russia and the CIS. kimmidoll output will target the back-to-school market for school children and  young adult students.
 
The planned product ranges will include branded paper, school stationery supplies, bags, and backpacks. Products will be available beginning on July 1 in a wide range of stores and retail chains across Russia and the CIS. A high level of awareness of the brand in the region will benefit further from Academy’s reach, which extends to more than 3,500 outlets.
 

eOne Secures Peppa Pig Deals in Latin America
 

The international rollout of Peppa Pig continues as Entertainment One (eOne) has unveiled a line up of partners poised to launch Peppa Pig merchandise across key Latin American markets from the end of this year. A new agreement with the region’s leading Pay-TV provider will see seasons three through six of Peppa begin airing next year.
 
Both Exim and Televisa, the licensing agents for Peppa Pig in Latin America, have been working with eOne to broker deals with a number of licensees in key categories. Publishing house Santillana will spearhead a multi-regional publishing launch that will see a series of preschool books launch in Chile, Argentina, Uruguay, Paraguay, Peru, Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador, and Venezuela this month.
 
Publishing partners Moderna and IBC will lead the charge in Brazil with Peppa books and magazines that will go on sale this month. Toy partner Estrela will be supported with a strong licensing program including a direct-to-retail deal with Lojas Renner S.A for apparel set to launch in February; and party supplies, greetings cards, games and puzzles, and personal care products to follow next year.
 
In Chile, Intek’s new toy line will hit retail in January, Italtoys will launch backpacks, stationery, and arts and crafts in March, and Titanio is on board for watches and lunchware in May. In addition, leading retailer Paris (Cencosud Group) will launch a direct-to-retail apparel program.
 
Toy partner Continente and homewares licensee Stor will produce licensed merchandise for Colombia and Central American regions with games and puzzles, partyware, lunchware, accessories, and back-to-school supplies set to launch next year across the region.
 

Character World and Union J in Bedding Deal
 

Character World has penned a deal with boy band Union J. The contract will see the Cheadle-based business manufacture and supply a range of duvet sets and cushions featuring images of the boy band. The range will go on sale this month at Claire’s Accessories before being extended to Asda, Littlewoods, and Argos early next year.

 

Tree Fu Tom Heads to Downing Street
 

Tree Fu Tom took time away from Treetopolis this week to attend a Christmas party at No. 11 Downing Street. The Rt Hon George Osborne MP, Chancellor of the Exchequer, and Starlight Children’s Foundation, invited 50 children with serious and terminal illnesses to a spectacular tea party in the state rooms, which had been transformed for the afternoon.
 
After passing through the well-known doorway, the young guests and their families were greeted by a host of Christmas characters and decorations. The Chancellor of the Exchequer welcomed the children and their families to Downing Street and wished them a happy Christmas, before inviting them to tuck into afternoon tea.
 
Neil Swan, Chief Executive of Starlight Children’s Foundation, said, “Starlight’s Children’s Christmas Party at No 11 Downing Street is one of the highlights of the charity’s annual hospital entertainment programme and it was a delight to have Tree Fu Tom at the event.  He was a huge hit with all our young guests and we are grateful to him for giving up his time to help entertain these very poorly children.”

Coolabi Signs Multi-Brand Partnership with Little Dot Studios
 

Coolabi has signed a new partnership with online producer and broadcaster Little Dot Studios for the Smallfilms properties Bagpuss, Ivor the Engine, Clangers, and Purple Ronnie.
 
Little Dot Studios creates and distributes content online for program brands on YouTube such as TOWIE, Gordon Ramsay, Who Do You Think You Are?, Peep Show, and Fresh Meat.
 
A new online channel, www.youtube.com/purpleronnie, targeted toward kids and adults ages 15 to 30, premieres Purple Ronnie animated shorts. The shorts are social expressions presented as snack-sized content for easy sharing. Additionally, Little Dot Studios will claim ownership of content on behalf of Coolabi and Smallfilms that has been previously uploaded.

TVMania and Trash Pack Enter Partnership
 

Bruno Productions has announced that TVMania, part of TVM Europe GmbH, is the newest licensee for The Trash Pack brand.
 
TVMania will develop a new rage of apparel, fashion bags, and accessories, which will be sold in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. 
 
TVMania is a supplier to many of Europe’s leading chain stores, department stores, mail order houses, and hyper markets, and boasts more than 7,500 retail spaces in some of the major stores in Europe.

MIDDLE EAST

The Entertainer Opens First Shop in Dubai
 

The Entertainer has opened its first toy shop in Dubai. In attendance were Gary Grant, founder and managing director of The Entertainer; accompanied by Stuart Grant, buying director; Duncan Grant, multichannel director and Edward Hobart, HM’s Consul General to Dubai. Catherine Grant, founder, who opened The Entertainer 32 years ago with her husband, Gary, also attended the event.
 
On December 12, the doors opened to the public for the first time. The next day, families were invited to a special grand opening event. Popular children’s characters, including Ben 10, Hello Kitty, Lalaloopsy, and Dora the Explorer made special appearances throughout the day. 
 
The Entertainer has more than 90 stores across the UK and this new store is the brand’s first expansion outside of the UK. The Entertainer has begun its expansion plan in the Middle East, focusing first on UAE, with the Dubai-based retail group Al Owais Enterprises to bring the toy shop to family shoppers who are demanding more toy shopping choices in Dubai.
 
The Entertainer Dubai store is located in the Al Ghurair center in the new extension.

Twentieth Century Fox World to Open in Malaysia
 

Twentieth Century Fox Consumer Products (FCP) in partnership with Genting Malaysia has announced the name of the first Twentieth Century Fox theme park: Twentieth Century Fox World at Resorts World Genting, Malaysia.
 
In addition, the theme park now has an official logo and a first-look at what visitors can expect from the park’s attractions was unveiled at the launch of the Twentieth Century Fox World.
 
Genting Integrated Tourism Plans were also presented at the event, which was attended by the Prime Minister of Malaysia the Honorable Dato’ Sri Mohd Najib Tun Razak, and executives from both companies. The theme park, spanning 25 acres at the resort, will create new jobs, including cast members who will be trained to operate the rides and attractions, while representing the characters and stories from various Fox properties. The park is set to open in 2016.

Bradford License India to Represent King Features
 

King Features, licensor of Betty Boop and Popeye, has appointed Bradford License India as its agent for India, effective immediately. The firm represents a number of characters, entertainment, and design brands through a network of nine offices in all major cities.
 
Bradford will develop programs for King’s brands, including Popeye, Olive Oyl, Betty Boop, and the Phantom in key categories such as apparel and accessories, back-to-school and stationery, and gifts within the framework of the Indian market.

 

Jim Henson Co. Licenses Doozers to Cartoonito Asia
 

The Jim Henson Co. has licensed its new Doozers series to Cartoonito, operated by Turner Broadcasting System Asia Pacific. 
 
“Licensing Doozers to Turner’s Cartoonito in Asia is an expansion of the successful relationship we established last year, when Cartoonito in Italy, UK and Germany became the first networks to commission our series. Turner has led the charge in premiering Doozers internationally this fall,” said Richard Goldsmith, executive vice president of global distribution for the Jim Henson Co. “Cartoonito offers viewers the most engaging and colorful content across the region, and we now have the incredible opportunity to introduce the property to a growing international audience.”
 
Doozers will also debut in multiple territories across Europe, the Middle East, and Africa and, most recently, the company licensed the TV series to Discovery Kids Latin America and Nickelodeon Australia for its Nick Jr. channel. 

The Wild East Group Launches Bollywood’s First Celebrity Brand Extension
 

Top Bollywood actor Hrithik Roshan has extended his brand into a fashion and fitness lifestyle brand called HRX. HRX is a sports and lifestyle brand that encourages its believers to push themselves to their extremes in all aspects of life. The brand is available online currently and will be Pan-India by mid-year next year.
 
The launch of this brand has been inspired by the launch and of other global celebrity brands, such Jay-Z, Britney Spears, and David Beckham.

SLR Sells Teenage Fairytale Dropouts to ABC
 

Australia’s SLR Productions has confirmed the animated series Teenage Fairytale Dropouts has been sold to local broadcaster ABC TV. 
 
“With its comedic appeal and age-appropriate fairytale storylines, Teenage Fairytale Dropouts will be right at home on ABC TV. The series continues to perform well for us locally and internationally – it is currently shown as part of Air New Zealand’s on-board entertainment for international flights and has also recently been picked up by many international broadcasters including HBO Asia, TVE Spain, Sun Network (India), Noga (Israel) and Orlando Kids (Croatia),” said executive producer and CEO of SLR Productions, Suzanne Ryan.   

 

LATIN AMERICA

Strawberry Shortcake Features in Seasonal Promotion in Brazil and Italy
 

AG Properties (AGP), the intellectual property and outbound licensing division of American Greetings Corporation, continues to build the presence of Strawberry Shortcake internationally with two key partnerships that reinforce the brand’s position in Brazil and Italy. Timed for Christmas and Easter, the companies will launch a range of branded seasonal chocolates that include a Strawberry Shortcake premium item.
 
In Brazil, a region where AGP has expanded the Strawberry Shortcake presence considerably in recent months, Nestle do Brasil will launch chocolate Easter eggs to be sold with a Strawberry Shortcake premium item across all retail channels beginning next year. The agreement was brokered by Exim Licensing Group.
