Backyard Sports Games to Re-launch on Mobile Devices

backyard sports basketballDay 6 Sports Group and the National Basketball Association (NBA) have partnered to re-launch Backyard Sports, a series of digital games starring kid versions of popular professional sports stars.
Backyard Sports, which originally debuted in 1997, will be released as a mobile game for smartphones and tablets. A roster of new professional sports stars will join the Backyard Sports team with in-game power ups and never-before-seen features.
Golden State Warriors point guard Stephen Curry has signed on with Day 6 Sports Group as the face of the Backyard Sports Basketball line and is the first NBA player to sign an endorsement deal with the franchise. Backyard Sports NBA Basketball will be released in the spring.

DreamWorks, Hearst Partner for ATV

Hearst Corp. has acquired a 25 percent interest in AwesomenessTV (ATV), a multi-platform media company serving the global teen community, for $81.25 million and will partner with DreamWorks Animation Inc. to grow ATV. Brian Robbins, ATV founder, and Brett Bouttier, president, will continue to lead the company.

DreamWorks and Hearst will work together to support ATV’s efforts to enter into new content channels, broaden its audience, and expand its geographic reach. Under the agreement, ATV will gain immediate access to Hearst’s subscription video on demand (SVOD) technology, which will accelerate ATV’s ability to offer content directly to consumers across all types of formats.

AwesomenessTV has an average of nearly 800 million monthly views and a subscriber base of more than 114 million. Its top YouTube channels—including Cimorelli, Miss Glamorazzi, Tyler Oakley, Cameron Dallas, and Nash Grier—have created YouTube stars and are watched each week by millions of viewers in the millennial demographic. Big Frame, a leading talent management company; Awesomeness Consumer Products; Awesomeness Music; and Awesomeness Ink are also under the AwesomenessTV umbrella.

Generation Hustle, FCP Launch Dawn of the Planet of the Apes Clothing Line

Generation Hustle (GH) has partnered with Twentieth Century Fox Consumer Products (FCP) to launch an exclusive on-demand fashion collaboration featuring iconic imagery inspired by the film Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, the latest installment in the Planet of the Apes franchise. The collection features graphic T-shirts, hoodies, hats, and accessories. Products are available online at

Lucky Brand Partners with Norton Motorcycles for Apparel Line

Lucky BrandLucky Brand has partnered with UK-based Norton Motorcycles to launch an apparel range that will coincide with the launch of the new Commando Café Racer road bikes in the North American market. The Norton range will be available during the holiday season at Lucky Brand stores worldwide.

GBI and Chronicle Books to Publish From Frank Book, Wall Calendar

From FrankGenius Brands International Inc. (GBI) has partnered with Chronicle Books to publish a book based on the From Frank humor brand. GBI subsidiary A Squared Entertainment will manage the publication of the book “Don’t Fart When You Snuggle: Lessons On How to Make Humans Smile,” as well as a corresponding 2016 wall calendar.

Fandango Family Screening Series to Host Russell Madness Film

Russell MadnessFandango and Air Bud Entertainment have partnered to release Russell Madness, a new movie from the creators of the Air Bud and Buddies franchise, as part of the Fandango Family Screening Series.
The film introduces Russell, a talking Jack Russell Terrier who accidentally becomes a professional wrestling superstar, and is the first feature film from newly launched Air Bud Entertainment. The film will debut in theaters next February, and will be released on home entertainment platforms later that spring.
Fandango Family Screening Series is a nationwide promotional program in top market theaters offering families free exclusive advance movie screenings just by registering for seats.

3DLT Partners with Big Tent Entertainment for 3-D Printed Domo Products

Domo3DLT, a platform for 3-D Printing as a service, has signed with Big Tent Entertainment to design, sell, and manufacture Domo-branded 3-D printed products. The printable products will be made available on the brand’s social media sites and in select retail outlets. The first product offered is a Domo-themed holiday ornament.
3DLT will continue to design other Domo-branded products in multiple categories.

Merriam-Webster to Launch Large-Print Puzzle Books

Merriam-Webster and Publications International have partnered to develop and market a line of large-print puzzle books under the Merriam-Webster brand. JRL Group, Merriam-Webster’s licensing agency, brokered the deal.
The Merriam-Webster 10-Book Puzzle Set is a large print, soft cover, easy-to-read set that contains the titles Circle Worlds, Crosswords, Fill-Ins, Scramblers, Word Games, and Word Search.

LIMA, Variety Partner for Entertainment Summit at 2015 CES

The International Licensing Industry Merchandisers’ Association is partnering with Variety for the upcoming Variety Entertainment Summit at the 2015 International Consumer Electronics Show. The Summit will include four 45-minute breakout sessions featuring leading executives from the entertainment industry’s top companies. Discussions will focus on how technology is transforming the entertainment business and creating huge choices in producing, monetizing, marketing, and distributing content for today’s increasingly digitally savvy audiences. Each session has been designed to help executives tap winning strategies in TV, film, gaming, and digital media. The event will take place on January 7 in Las Vegas.

Big Tent Entertainment, Brain Power Studio Partner for Something Fuzzy

Something fuzzyBig Tent Entertainment has partnered with Brain Power Studio to launch a new YouTube property, Something Fuzzy. The new series combines the love of everything fuzzy with pop culture-driven comedy sketches.
The Something Fuzzy YouTube channel features a mix of original programming and user-generated content. Brain Power has already created a library of more than 50 hours of green screen footage featuring 250 furry, feathery, and scaly pets. Using both the extensive library of footage and new material, content will be both imaginative and relevant, with real animal footage composited onto animated and photo realistic backgrounds. The expanding library of animal content is filmed under the supervision of the Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) and includes a variety of puppies, kittens, bunnies, gerbils, mice, ducks, piglets, turtles, fish, chinchillas, hedgehogs, lizards, and parrots.  
Programming currently available includes: “Around the Waterbowl,” “Something Fuzzy Special Reports,” “Pet Cribs,” and “Super Hero Pet Squad.” The partnership will allow for the development of new content weekly. Big Tent is also focused on building Something Fuzzy into a multi-dimensional franchise with plans for a targeted licensing program focusing heavily on apparel, novelty, pet products and social expressions categories.

Genius Brands Building Consumer Program for Archie

Archie Genius BrandsAs the appointed licensing agency for leading publisher and property owner Archie Comics, Genius Brands International, Inc. and its wholly owned subsidiary A Squared Entertainment, are currently building a consumer products’ program for Archie, to coincide with the brand’s 75th  anniversary.
Marc Eck? has signed on to design an exclusive capsule of Archie themed apparel for men, under the Marc Eck? Cut & Sew brand.  First becoming a recognized name in street culture in the early 1990s, Marc Eck?’s clothing lines have generated billions of dollars globally since that time.  After a 5-year departure, fall 2014 marked the return of Marc Eck? as the operator and lead designer of his eponymous label, Marc Eck? Cut & Sew.
GBI will represent additional pop culture characters from Archie Comics, including Jughead, Betty & Veronica, Josie & The Pussycats, Sabrina the Teenage Witch, Afterlife with Archie, The Fox, The New Crusaders, The Shield, Li’l Jinx and many more.

DHX Media Announces New Licensing Partners Ahead of Teletubbies Release

TeletubbiesDHX Media Ltd. (DHX) has appointed eight new UK licensing partners for the previously announced new Teletubbies series.
New licensees secured include Worlds Apart for furniture and accessories, Aykroyds for nightwear and underwear, Character World for bedding, Amscan for party goods, Bon Bon Buddies for confectionary, Posh Paws for bags, GB Eye for posters, and Zak UK for melamine tableware.
Licensees are expected to launch consumer products in the UK in 2016, with other territories to follow.

The Snowman and The Snowdog Team with Emirates

Emirates SnowmanThe Snowman and The Snowdog have visited London’s only cable car for The Snowman and The Snowdog Christmas experience.
There is also a specially reworked version of the film exclusively available for passengers flying through the air on the Emirates Air Line cable car.
Passengers travelling on the Emirates Air Line yesterday morning were greeted by The Snowman and The Snowdog who arrived at the Emirates Greenwich Peninsula Terminal of the cable car to take a look at unique version of The Snowman and The Snowdog film, which has been specially reworked for the Emirates Air Line.
Footage from the classic film has been given a twist. The iconic ‘flying in the air’ sequence now sees The Snowman and The Snowdog characters flying over London landmarks such as The O2, the Emirates Air Line, Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, Greenwich Royal Naval College and the Thames Barrier. This magical sequence is really brought to life as passengers fly over the Thames themselves.
As well as being able to watch this exciting sequence, visitors to the Emirates Air Line will see the terminal transformed into a Christmas experience until Sunday 4 January. There are also 15,000 children’s goodie bags to give away. Treats include a chocolate Snowman, The Snowman and The Snowdog character masks, in-flight binoculars and an I-spy challenge. Families can also have their photo taken with a life size model of The Snowman before boarding their festive flight. All of this is available at standard ticket prices.
Danny Price, TfL’s Head of the Emirates Air Line, said: “The Snowman and The Snowdog is an iconic Christmas film and we are delighted to be able to bring the story to life for our passengers, as they fly like the characters over our capital city.”

Jumbo Games and Sesame Workshop Confirm The Furchester Hotel Deal

Jumbo Games has signed a deal with Sesame Workshop via its UK licensing agent, CPLG, to produce a range of licensed children’s puzzles and games for The Furchester Hotel.   
The new pre-school children’s series, The Furchester Hotel, first aired in September 2014 and is a Sesame Street co-production with CBeebies.  The series features a new Muppet family, the Furchesters, along with Sesame Street characters Elmo and Cookie Monster. 
Continuing the growth of its children’s games and puzzles portfolio, Jumbo Games will produce a series of licensed products including a 35 piece puzzle assortment, a 4in1 shaped puzzle, giant playing cards and a dominoes game.  The range is set to launch in the latter part of 2015.
Gray Richmond, Managing Director of Jumbo Games comments: “We’re pleased to be working with Sesame Workshop and CPLG on this new and very exciting license.  Sesame Street has been popular amongst generations so we’re thrilled to be involved with this co-production.”

V&A New Partnerships Announced

The V&A is delighted has announced a series of new licensing partnerships ranging from stationery and textiles to beauty accessories and cakeware. Bekking & Blitz, ixxi, Sparkk, Lakeland and Stratton of Mayfair have all signed licenses with the V&A.
Textile manufacturer Sparkk has signed a licence with the V&A to produce a range of wall coverings, furnishing fabrics and cushions.  Based in Sydney, Sparkk distribute throughout Australia and New Zealand. 
Lakeland has taken inspiration from the V&A’s extensive archives for a range of decorative cupcake and cake accessories.
Dutch design company ixxi is on board for unique posters, and
Netherlands-based company Bekking & Blitz has created cloth-bound journals covered in Rose by William Morris (1834–96) and Leicester by John Henry Dearle (1860–1932) - both are interior patterns produced by Morris & Co. in the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries.
Luxury giftware brand Stratton of Mayfair has teamed up with the V&A to launch a unique collection of compacts, mirrors and pill boxes featuring three beautiful designs.

Masha and the Bear Comes to Life on Ice

Masha and the Bear on IceRussian animation Masha and the Bear, which is represented in the broadcasting and licensing sectors by Ink Global, will launch an Ice Show based on the brand in 2015.
The new dancing ice show is the work of Slovakian company Comunique and will initially tour Slovakia and the Czech Republic before taking in other EU countries. The show combines dance and figure skating with 3D projection effects to immerse the audience in the story. The script, choreography, costumes and production design are all the work of Slovak and Czech authors and artists. 
“Masha and the Bear isn’t your average kids brand and this isn’t your average ice show,” says Ink Global Director Claus Tømming. “Comunique are planning something new and innovative that represents a break from the norm and this very much reflects what we are trying to do with Masha and the Bear, as well as all the other brands we represent at Ink Global.”

Angry Birds Drinks for Russia

Rovio Entertainment has announced a production and distribution partnership with Baltika Breweries LLC, part of the Carlsberg group and a leader in the Russian beer market. This collaboration will bring four new Angry Birds soft drink flavours - Red, Chuck, Bomb and Minion Pig, to all over Russia, targeting millions of consumers.
Baltika Breweries has started producing and distributing four Angry Birds soft drink flavours – Red (tropical taste), Chuck (orange), Bomb (cola taste) and Minion Pig (apple-pear). Angry Birds drinks were launched in Finland in 2011 and in Russia 2012 as an imported product.
“Russia is strategically a very important market for Rovio. This contract with one of the most prestigious fast moving consumer goods company in Russia will further strengthen Rovio’s local presence.  We believe in potential and aim to operate with key players on various business segments. This is a major step to bring our fun and quirky Angry Birds brand to millions of Russian fans”, said Pekka Rantala Chief Commercial Officer at Rovio.

Sony Pictures Television’s Tiny Pop to Launch on Freeview

Sony Pictures Television (SPT) has announced that it is extending the distribution of its pre-school children's channel, Tiny Pop, on the UK national Freeview platform.
Set to fully launch on 7 January 2015, Tiny Pop will be available on Freeview channel 126 across the whole UK. This extends SPT Networks' reach of children's programming on Freeview to two channels, with POP - aimed at older kids - already available on channel 125.
Announcing the launch, Kate Marsh, SPT’s executive vice president, Networks, Western Europe said: “This extended distribution on Freeview marks our commitment to continue to invest in our UK networks business. With the extension of Tiny Pop, SPT’s reach on Freeview now spans five channels, and the introduction of this well-loved and established channel enables us to deliver a quality and fun alternative for families in Freeview homes.”
Tiny Pop is targeted at children aged three to seven and key titles include hit show My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic and Care Bears: Welcome to Care-a-Lot.

Smiling Bear is a koala character with a strong online following (now over 1/4 million Facebook fans) all checking out the weekly webcomic and messages about his life. 
The plush toy and accessory product range has been developed under license by Bandai, combining the expertise of a global giant in the field of toys, with the unique point of view of the Australian Smiling Bear brand. 
Each product item carries the core brand message, Smile More and the plush toys include a Secret Smile Pocket, to hide your keepsakes. 
As an Australian owned character and company, Smiling Bear will be supporting the Australia Koala Foundation by donating a percentage of profits and helping them to raise global awareness about the threat of koala extinction.
The Smiling Bear product range will be launched throughout Asia in 2015. The Smiling Bear Company Pty Ltd are currently in discussion with other prospective licensing partners in Australia and Asia for additional product categories.


The Entertainer Store Opens in Port Baku Mall Azerbaijan

The Entertainer AzerbaijanThe Entertainer, working with franchisee The Zeta Group, held an opening ceremony of its first store in Azerbaijan on 29th November 2014.
The Entertainer 5,500 sqft store, located at Port Baku Mall, a premium mall recently developed by Pasha Construction LLC is the first The Entertainer store in Azerbaijan’s capital city. Children stepping into The Entertainer will be transported into a world of wonder, surrounded by all their favourite toys plus friendly staff will be on hand to help guide families around the new store.
The Grand Opening gave children the chance to meet their favourite characters (Hello Kitty, Power Rangers, Darth Vader and Storm Troopers) and enjoy activities including face painting and toy demonstrations.
H.M. British Ambassador to Azerbaijan Irfan Siddiq was the honorary guest of the ceremony and opened the event by cutting the ribbon and giving a welcoming speech. “It’s great to see British brands entering the Azerbaijani market, it reinforces the global affinity and closeness between the UK and Azerbaijan.”
Duncan Grant, founding family member of The Entertainer, commented: “This is a fantastic looking store, I am certainly very proud of it… Looking at the store you would not know if you were in Azerbaijan or in Westfield, London.”
