John Lewis Bear and Hare Gifts Sell Out

Thanks to the retail chain’s £7 million Christmas TV advertisement, John Lewis has already run out of merchandise featuring the Bear and Hare from the advertisement. The goods are also up for auction on eBay for twice the retail price, with two weeks left until Christmas. The merchandise, including stuffed toys and an alarm clock, which plays a key part in the advert, will not be available again once it is gone.
A John Lewis spokeswoman said: “Following the response from customers to our previous Christmas TV adverts, this year we decided to stock a small number of products themed around the Bear and Hare characters from our TV advert. They have proved very popular with customers visiting our stores and shopping online, and while we have some products still available, we expect the remaining products to sell quickly as we get closer to Christmas.”
The Christmas advert, which cost the company £7m to make, tells the story of a hare determined to make sure his bear friend does not miss Christmas. The Christmas adverts in the UK from the larger retail stores such as John Lewis, Marks & Spencer, Boots and Debenham’s, as well as supermarkets such as Tesco and Morrisons, mark the chains’ big push for the holiday retail season, with the adverts themselves becoming events in UK culture.
