Spiffy Pictures Names TOMY International Master Toy Licensee for Nature Cat

Spiffy Pictures signed a licensing agreement with TOMY International for the PBS KIDS series Nature Cat. TOMY International is the master toy licensee for categories including plush, figures, play sets, and role-play for mass and specialty retail channels.
The TOMY line will debut with plush at the end of next year, and join soft goods licensee Komar to bring Nature Cat products to the U.S. The agreements follow the announcement of the second and third seasons of the series, which will include 35 half-hour episodes and two hour-long specials. New episodes will premiere next fall.

A GoFundMe campaign is raising money for licensing and toy industry veteran Lauren Whitehead, who has recently been hit with a catastrophic illness and is in need of a liver transplant. 
The funds raised will pay for the medical and recovery costs of the transplant. Whitehead has been working in the licensing and toy industries for 20 years with companies such as Jakks Pacific, MGAE, Spin Master, and Paramount Studios, and has been honored with the Women in Toys Wonder Woman of the Year award.

WP Brands Appointed for Animal Jam in Australia, New Zealand

WP Brands has been appointed as the exclusive licensing agent for Animal Jam in Australia and New Zealand. WP Brands will work directly with Peeko, which handles the worldwide licensing rights for the Animal Jam brand on behalf of WildWorks Inc.
Over the past 12 months, Peeko has been rapidly expanding the consumer products offering, spearheaded by the development of Jazwares master toy line, which was released mid-year in the US and UK. The rapid success of the toy line has led to over 30 new licensed partners signing on with Animal Jam, with multiple new product releases to come in 2017.
In Australia, Banter Toys & Collectibles launched the Animal Jam toy line in October with further products and retailers coming on board in early 2017.

KIDOZ, Rovio Animation Partner to Expand Availability of ToonsTV Content Globally

KIDOZ partnered with ToonsTV, Rovio Animation’s multi-channel video entertainment service. This marks the first time ToonsTV video content will be available outside of Rovio Animation’s own digital platforms. Rovio Animation content distributed via KIDOZ Network includes all of the franchise videos featured on ToonsTV, such as Angry Birds, Toons, Piggy Tales, Plunder Pirates, and PUCCA.

Character World Announces Disney Moana Bedding

Character World had designed bedding featuring Disney’s feisty new heroine, Moana.
The Manchester-based global textiles business has launched a Moana single duvet set with matching pillowcase. It is initially available online from Next, followed by other major UK retailers in the New Year.

eOne Announces New Broadcast Partner and Merchandise Launch for PJ Masks in Italy

Entertainment One (eOne) signed Raj Yoyo as a new free to air broadcast partner in Italy for PJ Masks. It will debut this month with episodes that will air four times a day.
eOne also appointed ETS Italy to manage the brand’s consumer products program in the region. Giochi Preziosi will distribute Just Play’s master toy line, which will include action figures, play sets, vehicles, plush, dress-up, and role-play items that will be available next year. Italian publisher La Coccinella will publish a line of book formats in the spring, and Gedis has signed for sticker albums. The apparel, games, back-to-school, and stationery categories are in negotiation.

New York Toy Fair Announces Programming for Licensing Community

Reflecting market trends, and to help toy professionals understand the fundamentals and inner-workings of the licensing world, the Toy Industry Association (TIA) will host the 6th annual Licensing Content Connection seminar series at Toy Fair 2017. The educational sessions will help toymakers and retailers learn how to leverage licenses that can propel a toy or game to incredible success.
The first session, “Licensing 101” will be held on Saturday, February 18, from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. Presented by Jessica Blue, SVP of licensing at UBM Americas (which produces Licensing Expo), the session will provide an overview of licensing, examples of successful business models and top licensing trends for 2017.
Later that afternoon, a session on “How to Evaluate a License” will be presented by the Licensing Industry Merchandisers’ Association (LIMA). The hour-long presentation will take a look at the process and metrics that retailers, manufacturers and other stakeholders use to make decisions about whether to include a particular license within their mix.
On Sunday, February 19, “Staying Ahead of the Curve” will be held from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. Presented by LIMA, the seminar will provide guidance to licensees and retailers who want to get noticed in a sea of successful licenses stemming from all directions – including television, streaming platforms, mobile gaming, and more.

DHX Celebrates 10 Years of In The Night Garden

DHX Brands, is set in 2017 to celebrate ten years of In the Night Garden with a host of initiatives and events. 

With the theme of ‘Ten years of Magical Journeys’ the campaign also celebrates 10 years of friendship, imagination and shared bedtime stories, encapsulating the core values for which In the Night Garden is best known.
Activities kick off in the New Year, with the launch of a new stand-alone In the Night Garden magazine from publisher Redan under the ‘Fun to Learn’ banner. Scholastic acquired world rights to create a picture book by Goosebumps author R.L. Stine and illustrator Marc Brown. Orchard Books will publish Mary McScary—Stine and Brown’s second picture book collaboration—in September.

Dabel Brothers Publishing Brings Mr. Bean’s Humor to Graphic Novels

Dabel Brothers Publishing will release in 2017 the first issue in a much-anticipated graphic novel series featuring Mr. Bean, the internationally recognized character created by Rowan Atkinson and Richard Curtis.
“I have been a huge fan of Mr. Bean for as long as I can remember,” says Les Dabel, VP of Business Operations with Dabel Brothers Publishing. “The opportunity to develop this project and bring Mr. Bean’s celebrated humor to life in this new format is definitely a milestone achievement for me personally, and one the Dabel Brothers team is extremely proud of.”

Sesame Street Muppets from UAE, India and Afghanistan Gather for Training Workshop at twofour54

Sesame Street Muppeteers from the UAE, India and Afghanistan gathered in Abu Dhabi last week for the first-ever international exchange of creative ideas and production techniques from Sesame Workshop, the non-profit educational organisation behind Sesame Street. The four-day training workshop was co-hosted by Abu Dhabi’s media zone, twofour54, and Bidaya Media, the company responsible for bringing the Arabic version of Sesame Street, Iftah Ya Simsim, back to GCC screens last year after a 20-year hiatus.
Sesame Street producers and a muppeteer from India’s version of Sesame Street, Galli Galli Sim Sim, oversaw the workshop which focused on script reading, live action production and puppeteering. twofour54 provided the studio space and production equipment for the workshop. The dynamic sessions provided a skills refresher for the UAE team and helped the Afghan team to further expand their production capabilities as they embark on the sixth season of its television and radio series, under the title Baghch-e-Simsim. The ground-breaking Afghan version of Sesame Street is produced in collaboration with Lapis Communications (the strategic communications division of the MOBY Group, which is based in Abu Dhabi) and Equal Access.

Shaun Sees Record High in Asia

With the annual Asia TV Forum opening this week in Singapore, Aardman are delighted to report that popularity for global brand Shaun the Sheep is at a record high in Asia and is set to grow further after penning a ground-breaking exclusive VOD deal with Youku Tudou in China through agents U’Young Media.

Hachette Children’s Group Announces Further Pokémon Titles for 2017

Orchard Books, an imprint of the Hachette Children’s Group, are to publish two further Pokémon titles in 2017 following huge sell-in success with the first three licensed books.
Earlier this year the Hachette Children’s Group announced that they would be fast-tracking three official Pokémon titles for November 2016 after signing a publishing deal with The Pokémon Company International: Pokémon Creative Colouring, The Pokémon Encyclopedia and The Pokémon Sticker Book.
The books have already proved popular. The Pokémon Encyclopedia achieved sales of 5,413 copies in the first week alone and ongoing sales averaging over 1,000 copies per day.  Hachette Children’s Group also reported sales to date of over 6,000 copies in export.
Katie Price, Licensing Director, Hachette Children’s Group, comments: “We are thrilled with the initial sales of the first three titles. With a new Pokémon video game out this November, the momentum behind Pokémon continues and we believe there is huge demand for a broader range of publishing under this license.”

Kabam and Hasbro Unveil Transformers: Forged to Fight

Kabam and Hasbro Inc. have announced the title and key details of Transformers: Forged to Fight, a new high-definition, action-fighting mobile game set in an immersive world.
The game will feature authentic Transformers “more than meets the eye” action, allowing players to engage with Optimus Prime, Megatron and many other popular Autobots and Decepticons in a stunning 3D environment. The new title will enter beta testing in select territories soon and will be available worldwide in Spring 2017.

Super Wings Ready for Take off on KiKA in January 2017

The successful preschool animation series Super Wings will be premiering on Germany’s kids channel KiKA on 25 January 2017. The series will be aired daily from Monday to Sunday as a double feature during kids prime time at 6:15 pm. The global co-production is already successfully broadcasted in Europe e.g. in France, Spain, Italy and Sweden. The series is co-produced by South Korea’s FunnyFlux, EBS and CJ E&M, US-based Little Airplane Productions, China’s QianQi Animation and German kids channel KiKA.
Meanwhile the licensing program for Germany is taking shape. The European distribution of Alpha’s master toy line has already succesfully started in different markets, for instance in Italy where Giochi Preziosi distributes the line. There, “Super Wings” has already proven to be the fastest growing property in the preschool category. In the German-speaking territories the line will be distributed, marketed and promoted by Giochi Preziosi Germany - in strategic alliance with Stadlbauer Marketing + Vertrieb GmbH, who has the responsibility on sales. The toys will be presented at the upcoming International Toy Fair in Nuremberg and be available at retail from March 2017 – supported by a TV advertising campaign.
The brand management and media company m4e AG, responsible for the licensing & merchandising in the German-speaking territories, has already signed licensees for “Super Wings” including Clementoni for puzzles and games, Amijoc/Beluga for beach & outdoor toys, Procos for party goods and Famosa for plush.

    • Responsible for managing licensee press releases, cross marketing and promotions
