Sesame Street Celebrates 45 Years

sesame streetThe Sesame Street neighborhood celebrates the 45th anniversary of the TV show today. Sesame Street is the longest running children’s TV show in history and has won 159 Emmy Awards. Domestic and international versions of the show reach 156 million children worldwide in 150 countries.
Multiple celebrities have visited the show, including Michael Jackson, Beyoncé, and Ellen DeGeneres. First Lady Michelle Obama and members of One Direction are a few of the many guests to appear throughout Season 45.

KISS Joins Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade

Kiss 40 Year AnniversaryKISS will participate in this year's 88th Annual Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade for the first time in a deal secured by Epic Rights. More than 600 cheerleaders will lead the performance, which will pay tribute to the band's 40-year career with a KISS medley. The parade will begin at 9:00 a.m. on Thursday, November 27, with more than 3.5 million spectators expected to line the streets of Manhattan. Another 50 million viewers will watch the event on TV nationwide.

Toca Boca Launches New Artist Play Series

Toca InkToca Boca has launched the Artist Play Series, a new project that invites international artists to celebrate the synergies of play and art by creating tools for play. The result is a series of physical toys that encourage imagination and self-expression. Toca Ink is the first product available in the series, which will be followed by a second collaboration with Argentine artist CHU, available later this month. Toca Ink was created in collaboration with Virginia Elwood, a U.S.-based tattoo artist who has designed six temporary tattoos that feature characters from Toca Boca.

Bulldog Licensing Signs New Deals For Garfield

Bulldog Licensing has brokered deals with three new licensees for Garfield: The Classic, Fright Rags, and Open Roads.
The Classic will produce women’s apparel, including tops, bottoms, hats, outerwear, scarves, socks, and bags. Open Roads has signed up for wall art, containers, trays, book boxes, tin and wood boxes, novelty magnets, door mats, and decals. Fright Rags is set to release a line of T-Shirts next year to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Garfield’s Halloween Adventure TV special.

Princess Cruises, Discovery Consumer Products Partner for Discovery At Sea

Princess Cruises and Discovery Consumer Products have collaborated to create Discovery At Sea. The new cruise vacations will feature themed tours, science activities, hands-on programs, and games based on Discovery’s brands and programming, and will debut early next year on Princess Cruises’ ships. The interactive experiences will bring to life the nature, wildlife, and history of the regions guests are sailing.

Discovery At Sea content will be based on top-rated Discovery network properties from Discovery Channel, TLC, Animal Planet, and Science Channel, based on shows like Shark Week, Mythbusters, and Deadliest Catch.

StoryToys, Saban Brands Release Julius Jr. Playhouse App

Julius Jr.StoryToys and Saban Brands have released Julius Jr.’s Playhouse, the first fully interactive app based on Julius Jr. The app is available in the App Store for iPad, iPhone, and iPod Touch, and is the first of a series of apps to be created in partnership with Saban Brands.
Julius Jr.’s Playhouse is part of the StoryToys Jr. line, built for preschool audiences. Set in Julius Jr.’s magical playhouse where everyday objects come to life, the app contains four fun and easy-to-play activities. Kids can help Sheree decorate delicious cakes for the whole gang to enjoy and even sing along with The Julius Jr. Garage Band. A fun quiz will reinforce their identification of shapes and colors, while a variety of colorful puzzles will help to hone motor skills.

Young Dental Acquires Products, Licensing Rights from Oral-B

Young Dental—a designer, manufacturer, and marketer of consumables, instruments, and other items used in the dental industry—has acquired Oral-B Minute-Foam, Centrays and Centwins trays, and SUPA disposable prophy angles.
The agreement allows Young Dental to license the Oral-B brand name for select professional oral care products. Oral-B will continue to market over-the-counter retail products to the dental hygiene community.
The acquisition and license does not apply to over-the-counter retail dental products, including (but not limited to) items such as toothpaste, toothbrushes, floss, and mouth rinse.

Disney•Pixar Announces Toy Story 4

Two decades after Pixar Animation Studios created Toy Story, plans are now underway for Disney•Pixar’s Toy Story 4.
John Lasseter, director of the original Toy Story and Toy Story 2, will direct the film, which opens a new chapter in the lives of Woody, Buzz Lightyear, and the rest of the Toy Story gang. Lasseter, Andrew Stanton, Pete Docter, and Lee Unkrich—the storytellers who have been the driving force behind all three previous films—dreamt up the concept for the next installment.
“We love these characters so much; they are like family to us,” says Lasseter. “We don’t want to do anything with them unless it lives up to or surpasses what’s gone before. Toy Story 3 ended Woody and Buzz’s story with Andy so perfectly that for a long time, we never even talked about doing another Toy Story movie. But when Andrew, Pete, Lee and I came up with this new idea, I just could not stop thinking about it. It was so exciting to me, I knew we had to make this movie—and I wanted to direct it myself.”
The next film from Disney•Pixar will be Inside Out.

Premier Exhibitions, FCP to Launch Ice Age Exhibition Experience

Premier Exhibitions and 20th Century Fox Consumer Products (FCP) will launch a new touring exhibition experience that will be based on the Ice Age movies.
The exhibition will provide the opportunity for guests to learn about the Pleistocene era through a thrilling educational experience and will feature characters including Manny, Sid, Scrat and Diego. The new exhibition leads up to the theatrical release of the next Ice Age movie in 2016.

Entertainment One’s Death Row Records Launches Apparel with The Hundreds

Entertainment One Licensing (eOne) has announced a limited-edition Death Row Records fashion collection, launching with streetwear brand The Hundreds, known for its collaborations with brands ranging from Disney to the Grateful Dead.
The Hundreds was launched in 2003 with an emphasis on design influenced by Southern California’s skate, surf, punk, and hip-hop subcultures, and has grown exponentially on the strength of its multi-faceted approach to connecting with fans and tastemakers. In addition to its retail stores, The Hundreds is featured in more than 1,000 specialty accounts around the world, publishes a biannual magazine, and maintains an extensive network of influencers. Limited-edition collaborations with key partners, from corporate brands to underground artists, have made it into one of the most sought-after streetwear names in the business.


CPLG Announces New Licensees for England Rugby

CPLG England RugbyCPLG, official licensing agent for the Rugby Football Union (RFU), has announced the expansion of the England Rugby licensing program, signing a new raft of licensees with three major retailers that will see a range of new England Rugby products available for fans next year, ahead of the build up to the World Cup.
Husky Retail Ltd. (fridges), Premier Sports Lights (novelty lighting with sound) and LR Group International (England Rugby ball foldable rucksack) have all come on board, joining an already impressive roster of England Rugby merchandising partners. Support from all key retailers will see the new products in-store for the start of the RBS 6 Nations Championship kicking-off in February 2015 and will be available for purchase in the lead up to the World Cup and beyond.

Sixth Series of Downton Abbey Confirmed by ITV

Downton AbbeyITV and Carnival Films, the producers of Downton Abbey, have announced that production will begin early next year on a sixth series of the hit drama.
The series debuted on ITV in 2010 and has since been sold to more than 250 territories worldwide. The fifth season, which comes to an end on Sunday, November 9, has been watched by an average of 10.4 million based on consolidated data per episode and will return at Christmas for a festive edition of the drama.
A strong merchandising program has been built up around the brand and sees global success.

Angry Birds Stella Taking Center Stage in Chinese Idols Finals

Rovio Entertainment, the creator of Angry Birds, has announced its partnership with the Digital Entertainment Business Division of Alibaba Group and introduce Angry Birds Stella to fans through Chinese Idols, broadcasted by Shanghai Media Group.
Angry Birds Stella will be seen throughout the season finals of Chinese Idols, with weekly behind-the-scenes footage of the TV series in a dedicated section of the in-game channel ToonsTV, exclusively for China.
Alibaba Group’s Digital Entertainment Business Division is exclusively publishing the Angry Birds Stella Android game in China, with consumer products rollout through Alibaba’s e-commerce platforms.

Seth MacFarlane Gets Comic Book Treatment

Seth MacfarlaneBluewater Productions has a new comic book biography on the life of Seth MacFarlane as part of its Fame series. Fame: Seth MacFarlane, released this week is available in both print and digital.  
After years of entertaining with his cartoons, Bluewater Productions turns the tables by making Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane the subject of it’s latest biography comic book. Fame: Seth MacFarlane written by Michael Troy with art by Gabriel Evangelista follows the life of Seth MacFarlane from his youth to the meteoric rise of the cartoon king that almost wasn’t.
“I was excited to get the chance to write the Seth MacFarlane biography comic for Bluewater Productions. Seth is one of the most talented and creative comedians of our generation,” said writer Michael Troy. 
“One of the funny things about the script was to discover so many unknown facts to me about Seth’s career. Each page was such a fun to draw that I really hope he and all readers appreciate how the book turns out,” said artist Gabriel Evangelista.

Mind Candy’s World of Warriors Gets Apple’s Global Editor’s Choice

Brand Licensing Europe 2014 Reports Growth for the Industry

Brand LicensingBrand Licensing Europe (BLE) 2014 made the announcement that it has helped boost the thriving licensing industry, now worth an estimated $13 billion (£8bn) in retail sales in the UK alone. 7,164 visitors attended this year’s show (subject to BPA Audit); consistent with last year’s event. More than half of attendees were actual decision makers, and this year saw an increase in overseas visitors and a 28 percent rise in retailers attending the show.
This year’s event, which took place from October 7 through 9 at London’s Olympia, boasted 306 exhibitors—of which 88 were new—and floor space totaling 7,338 square meters, making it the largest BLE ever. Exhibitor numbers increased across all three of the show zones.

Warner Bros. UK Appoints Brand & Deliver

Brand & DeliverWarner Bros. UK has appointed Brand & Deliver to devise and create marketing promotions across two of its biggest evergreen titles, Scooby Doo and Tom & Jerry, throughout 2015.
Next year, Tom & Jerry celebrates its 75th birthday, while Scooby Doo currently holds the top spot in terms of DVD sales in the family entertainment category.
