Activision to Buy King Digital Entertainment

Activision Blizzard is buying King Digital Entertainment, the creator of Candy Crush Saga. In a deal worth $5.9bn (£3.8bn), Activision said the combined firm would have more than half a billion monthly active users in 196 countries.
Activision Blizzard CEO Bobby Kotick said: "With a combined global network of more than half a billion monthly active users, our potential to reach audiences around the world on the device of their choosing enables us to deliver great games to even bigger audiences than ever before."
Activision Blizzard is paying $18 in cash for each King share, and the deal is expected to boost Activision's adjusted revenue and earnings by about 30 percent.
King Digital Entertainment, which has its main offices in London and Stockholm, will continue to operate as an independent unit led by CEO Riccardo Zacconi.
Zacconi said: "Since 2003, we have built one of the largest player networks on mobile and Facebook, with 474 million monthly active users in the third quarter 2015. We believe that the acquisition will position us very well for the next phase of our company's evolution."

Beanstalk Appoints Allison Ames as CEO

Beanstalk has appointed Allison Ames as CEO of the company.
In her new role, Ames will oversee the growth of the agency and offer comprehensive expertise on strategic brand extensions for its clients around the world. Additionally, she will continue to retain her position as the president of the firm.

Ames began her career at Beanstalk in 1997 and has led licensing initiatives for brands such as HGTV, Stanley Black & Decker, Purina, Airheads, the U.S. Army, Mary-Kate and Ashley, Salma Hayek, and Danskin, among other key clients. She also re-introduced the manufacturer representation division of the agency, leading projects for key clients such as ConAgra, among others.

Juicy Couture Teams with Swarovski

Juicy Couture is launching a limited-edition cashmere collection embellished with Swarovski crystals, designed for the brand’s top luxury markets. 
The limited edition collection features Juicy Couture’s most iconic items in twelve-gauge cashmere, embellished with Swarovski crystals with an Aurore Boreale coating.
“This collaboration is the first of a series that will rollout globally in the coming seasons,” said Nick Woodhouse, President and CMO of ABG, owner of the brand.  “We are excited to heighten the opulence of Juicy Couture in partnership with Swarovski with this specially designed collection for Juicy Couture’s top luxury markets.” 
Swarovski now celebrates its 120th anniversary.

AAHG Partners with Twentieth Century Fox to Open Theme Park and Resort in Dubai

Al Ahli Holding Group (AAHG) has partnered with Twentieth Century Fox Consumer Products to build a Fox-branded theme park and resort in Dubai. This will be the second Twentieth Century Fox World theme park and the first Fox-branded resort in the world. The deal allows for a rollout of up to three additional Fox-branded resorts in territories outside Dubai.

Twentieth Century Fox World, slated to open in 2018, will feature unique attractions including Ice Age, Planet of the Apes, Aliens, Predator, Night at the Museum, Titanic, The Simpsons, and Sons of Anarchy. The park will also feature rides and retail outlets that will bring to life the studio’s iconic film and TV franchises.

Bratz Re-creates The X Factor Judges

To celebrate the first of The X Factor live shows on Saturday, Bratz brought their own ‘Bratzfactor’ to proceedings.  
The UK Bratz team worked closely with their MGA colleagues in the US to create dolls of the four well known judges.  
UK Brand Manager Nicola Mellor explained: “Our fans love The X Factor so we decided to mark the start of the live shows by transforming Simon, Cheryl, Nick and Rita into Bratz dolls. The judges iconic looks were recreated, such as Simon’s classic white shirt and Rita’s glamourous red dress, but with an added Bratz twist. We created a mood board of the four judges and then photographed them with a Bratz-sized X Factor set here in the UK before posting across our social channels.”
The campaign is the launch pad for the new CIY (Create It Yourself) range which launched in Target in the US and will be available in the UK from early 2016.  Consumers will be able to create their own Bratz dolls from scratch, including skin tone, eye colour, hair colour and outfits.

Lawless Entertainment Signs on Behalf of YooHoo & Friends will feature the first season of YooHoo & Friends, an animated TV series, on Roku, Amazon Fire TV, Samsung, and Sony, according to a distribution deal signed with Lawless Entertainment.

YooHoo & Friends embraces global conservation trends and includes a range of collectible plush toys and licensed goods, such as social expressions, stationery, apparel, bedding, and books that feature rare or endangered animals. 

Elvis Hour Comes to Hochanda

On new TV Shopping Channel Hochanda, Sid Shaw of Elvisly Yours joined British Collector’s Guru Gary “Gazza” Ashburn, to host an hour of the Elvis Show.
Sid is working with Hochanda to promote a series of Elvis Shopping Shows called Elvis Hours. Hochanda is the concept of the original owners of Ideal World TV Shopping Channel, which they sold for £78 million. Viewers can order in their own language and Hochanda Shows also feature LIVE on the internet and will be available in the UK on SKY and other servers:
Elvis has been resurrected with the launch of his new album recorded with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra on October 30th. On Wednesday November 4th at 9pm there was also a major ITV Elvis Documentary called “Elvis and Me” hosted by Joanna Lumley.

Music Icon Lionel Richie Launches Home Collection by Impulse! International

The Lionel Richie Home Collection by Impulse! International will feature bone china dinnerware in white and gold, weighted crystal barware, textured leather serving and entertaining accessories, and fragrant candles that reflect a look and feel captured by Richie as he traveled across the world during the span of his career. The collection is comfortable, classic, and traditional and will be available to high-end retailers, hoteliers, and restaurateurs worldwide starting in January. 

Foundry Brands, Brick Lane Bikes and Heritage Apparel Sign Deal

Foundry Brands has concluded an agreement between the urban cycling brand Brick Lanes Bikes London and clothing company Heritage Apparel.
Heritage Apparel is developing a collection of cycle inspired casualwear under the BLB London brand. The first collection for Spring Summer 16 consists of t-shirts, sweats, hoodies, track pants and shorts and will be followed by a fuller collection for AW’16 also including outerwear and woven shirts. The ranges take inspiration from Brick Lane bikes position as one of the world’s leading and influential fixed wheel bike brands, urban cycling culture and captures BLB’s innovative design and direction as well as their urban roots and location in the heart of East London.

The LIMA Licensing Hall of Fame Deadline Is This Friday

This is the last week to submit recommendations for the Licensing Hall of Fame. Each year, the Licensing Industry Merchandiser’s Association (LIMA) honors industry leaders who have made an outstanding contribution to the licensing community. To be considered for induction into the 2016 Hall of Fame online, recommendations must be received by November 6.
Individuals who have been active in the licensing industry for more than 15 years, have contributed to the advancement of their segment and the larger industry in a unique and relevant way, have upheld the ethics and principles of the licensing industry, and have been a LIMA member for more than three years are eligible for the award.

Gaumont Appoints Nicola Andrews to VP, Distribution

Gaumont Television hires Nicola (Nikki) Andrews to the newly created position of Vice President, Distribution.  Based in London, Andrews will report directly to Erik Pack, President of International Distribution for Gaumont Television, and be responsible for selling the company’s line-up of children’s programming into the U.S., Canada, and Western Europe, as well as selling all of Gaumont Television programming into Benelux.  Key animated titles Andrews will be offering include Calimero, Belle and Sebastian and Welcome to Bric-a-Broc.
“With the recent rebranding of Gaumont Television and all of the distribution now centralized into one division, the timing is ideal for adding Nikki to our team,” commented Pack. “Her experience of over two decades, her professionalism, and her keen knowledge of the industry make her the perfect fit for this new position.”

Cartoon Network Unveils Exclusive Stickers on Messaging App Line

Cartoon Network has launched its most popular characters with a range of branded stickers on the free call and messaging app Line.

Characters from Adventure Time, The Amazing World of Gumball, and The Powerpuff Girls are now available for download in Japan, Thailand, Indonesia, Taiwan, Korea, Malaysia, Singapore, Hong Kong, Vietnam, and India. All characters have Chinese, Japanese, and English versions. 

Line stickers, shared during chat sessions, function as large-scale emoji, and are available for download from the Sticker Shop in the Line app.

C-Life Group to License Kong–King of the Apes Apparel Line

41 Entertainment and Arad Animation have signed C-Life Group as the leading apparel licensee for their Kong–King of the Apes property in the U.S. The deal includes T-shirts, fashion tops, bottoms, fleece, and swimwear for men, juniors, boys, girls, and toddlers.

Gemma Partners with emoji on Greetings

Gemma has signed a deal with Global Merchandising Services on emoji, as their official partner across cards and wrap.
With 72% of 18- to 25-year-olds finding it easier to express their feelings in emoji pictures than through written word Gemma will not only create a fantastic greetings range aimed at millennials but also designs suited for juvenile, tween and teens.
Gemma are getting their team involved too, by running a competition for internal staff members to submit greeting card design ideas using the emoji characters, Gemma’s Head of Product & Marketing, Shelley Boyd-Platt said, ‘emoji is such a fun brand and I’m sure our team will come up with some very amusing captions with the winner not only get bragging rights when they win but they'll see their design idea on shelf at retail!’
Launching for spring summer 2016 Gemma are creating a co-ordinated range of general birthday, ages, relations and occasions caption cards and gift packaging comprising of gift bags, roll wrap and packs containing two sheets of paper and 2 tags.

CLC Extends Partnership with University of Nebraska

The Collegiate Licensing Company (CLC) has extended its global partnership with the University of Nebraska to manage the university’s licensing program for another six years.

Officially licensed products for Nebraska are currently sold at more than 3,900 retailers across the country with an increase of nearly 400 retailers in the last school fiscal year. The university has achieved greater in-store distribution by participating in CLC’s exclusive national retail marketing platforms such as College Colors Day, Saturday Ritual, Rock Your Colors, and Holiday Cheer Section. Nebraska has also been included in new collegiate programs with licensees such as Carhartt, Dooney & Burke, Lillybee, Richline, Yankee Candle, and Yeti Coolers.

Lawless Entertainment Appointed Worldwide Representative for Return of the Dodger

Lawless Entertainment has been appointed as worldwide representative for Return of the Dodger; a project that tells the unknown story of Oliver Twist and the Artful Dodger in 1890’s London. Lawless will handle television co-production and distribution, licensing, merchandising, and publishing.
Lawless Entertainment is seeking co-production partners for the Return of the Dodger project. 

Praim Group to Launch All-Natural Build-a-Bear Chocolate Bar Line

Praim Group will create an all-natural chocolate bar line for Build-A-Bear Workshop, an interactive destination where guests of all ages can create personalized plush.

Praim Group will introduce four designs, including two chocolate bars and two Choxcards in holiday and everyday designs. The bars will feature the new Build-A-Bear logo and will be available at Build-A-Bear Workshop stores in the U.S.

A+E Networks and Vice to Launch TV Network

A+E Networks’ channel H2 will transition to a 24-hour network called Viceland early next year, according to a deal finalized with Vice Media. Viceland will be distributed in approximately 70 million homes, and will feature new programming produced in-house by Vice.  The channel will open to a full slate of prime-time shows, including Gaycation (with Ellen Page and Ian Daniel), Huang’s World (with Eddie Huang), Noisey (with Zach Goldbaum), Vice World of Sports (with Sal Masekela), Black Market (with Michael K. Williams), Flophouse, Party Legends, Weediquette (with Krishna Andavolu), and more.
