9 Story Media Group to Produce New Little Critter Animated TV Series

9 Story Media Group partnered with Little Critter LLC to produce a new animated series based on Mercer Mayer’s Little Critter children’s book characters. 9 Story will also control worldwide distribution and merchandising rights for the series, with the exception of publishing and digital media content, which remain with Little Critter LLC.
The new 80 x 11-minute TV series will feature a cast of animal characters who live in Critterville. The series will focus on a narrative that promotes social-emotional learning.
The deal was negotiated by Stuart Snyder, former president and COO of Turner Broadcasting System’s Animation, Young Adults, and Kids Media Division. Little Critter LLC appointed Snyder Media Group LLC to help build Little Critter into a global brand.

British Museum in Partnership with Alibaba Group

The British Museum and Alibaba Group have announced a ‘landmark’ partnership.
Alifish, Alibaba’s online licensing platform has been named as the British Museum’s e-retailing and merchandise licensing partner in China.  The partnership will see a range of British Museum licensed products made available to consumers in China in a British Museum-branded online store on Alibaba’s popular online marketplace Additionally, Alifish will provide e-retailing and data mining support to British Museum so their licensed product mix can be perfectly tailored for the Chinese market.  The deal, part of The British Museum’s licensing programme managed by TSBA Group, will also see a range of physical retail outlets launched by Alfilo Brands – a licensee partner of British Museum in China.
With a collection that tells the stories of cultures across the world, from the dawn of human history to the present, the British Museum attracts millions of visitors every year. It is particularly popular among Chinese visitors to London, many of whom visit the British Museum as part of their trip.

LIMA Extends Nomination Deadline for 2017 Hall of Fame

Each year, the LIMA Board of Directors reviews all Hall of Fame recommendations submitted by members to ensure the award represents licensing excellence. To be considered for induction into the 2017 Hall of Fame, an online recommendation must include a detailed description of the candidate’s contribution and his or her adherence to the criteria. Skylanders Academy Debuts on Netflix

Activision Blizzard, Inc.’s animated series Skylanders Academy makes its debut this on Netflix. Based on Activision Blizzard’s Skylanders video game franchise, Skylanders Academy follows the heroic adventures of Spyro, Eruptor, Stealth Elf, Jet-Vac and Pop Fizz as they travel the vast Skylands universe, protecting it from evil-doers. Skylanders Academy is the first project from Activision Blizzard Studios.
“‘We are so excited to bring Skylanders to families in a new, fun and exciting way,” said Activision Blizzard Studios Co-President Stacey Sher. “High-quality writing, incredibly talented actors and beautiful animation makes Skylanders Academy an epic adventure for the whole family.”

Earlier this month Activision revealed the Skylanders Imaginators video game, which gives kids the power to create their very own Skylanders and bring them to life for the first time.

FMK’s Kate & Mim-Mim and Tree Fu Tom to Stream on CCTV

FremantleMedia Kids & Family (FMK)’s Kate & Mim-Mim and Tree Fu Tom will be screened on Chinese state-owned channel CCTV Children’s Channel (CCTV-14) this year, starting with Kate & Mim-Mim this month. The deal marks FMK’s first partnership with the broadcaster.
Kate & Mim-Mim and Tree Fu Tom will also stream on China’s leading digital platforms YoukuTudou, iQIYI, Tencent, Mango, Sohu, and LETV. In addition, FMK will team up with Chinese actress Zhou Xun, who recorded 32 Kate & Mim-Mim stories for SINA Corporation’s newly launched storytelling machine Habbie.

Lovehoney Presented with the Queen's Award for Enterprise

The Lord-Lieutenant for Somerset has officially presented Lovehoney with the Queen's Award for Enterprise for boosting international trade.
Anne Maw handed over the coveted crystal chalice and scroll to owners Richard Longhurst and Neal Slateford at a ceremony at the award-winning sex toy retailer's Locksbrook Road headquarters on Wednesday (Oct 26).
The Queen’s Award for Enterprise is awarded to British businesses who excel at international trade, innovation or sustainable development. They are the highest official UK awards for British businesses.

Mattel and Bagdasarian Productions Partner

Bagdasarian Productions has announced a partnership with Mattel as the master toy licensee for ALVINNN!!! and the Chipmunks, the all-new CG-animated show on Nickelodeon airing around the world.  
The series offers a fresh look at the classic adventures of Alvin, Theodore, Simon and the Chipettes. The new series is created, written and directed by Janice Karman, who, alongside her husband Ross Bagdasarian, the owners and voices of the Chipmunks franchise, producers of the hit 80‘s television series, and the four blockbuster Chipmunks movies.
Mattel will develop a full-line of toys, including role play, music items, articulated figures, playsets, R/C vehicles, plush, feature plush and more.  The line will launch through a Toys ’R’ Us exclusive and will roll out nationwide in 2017, as well as in Latin America and Europe.

Robert Bakish Named Acting President and CEO of Viacom Inc.

Viacom Inc.’s board of directors appointed Robert Bakish as acting president and CEO, effective Nov. 15. He will succeed Tom Dooley, who previously announced that he will be leaving the company.

Bakish will be responsible for the growth of Viacom’s industry-leading networks and brands. He will be expected to develop new content, expand distribution, and pursue strategic growth opportunities in Viacom’s core businesses.

Bakish has also been appointed to the new role of president and CEO of the Viacom Global Entertainment Group. This new unit combines Viacom’s International Media Networks division with the company’s Music and Entertainment Group. In addition, TV Land and CMT will join the Global Entertainment Group portfolio under Bakish.

Viacom’s Kids and Family Group will be reestablished as the Nickelodeon Group. BET Networks will continue to function as a separate group.

Zodiak Kids Takes Mister Maker’s Arty Party Worldwide

Nelvana Expands Broadcast Partnership with SUPER RTL

Corus Entertainment’s Nelvana expanded its broadcast partnership with German broadcaster SUPER RTL to bring Hotel Transylvania: The Series, Ranger Rob, and Stanley Dynamic to viewers throughout Germany.
Stanley Dynamic debuted on SUPER RTL this summer, while Ranger Rob is set to premiere early next year. Hotel Transylvania: The Series will launch in 2018. PlayCon to Relaunch in 2018

The Toy Industry Association (TIA) announced that PlayCon – TIA’s International Conference of Play Professionals will be held biannually in a vibrant, major city beginning in the spring of 2018. Formerly an annual event, PlayCon will broaden in its appeal and inspiration, making it a “must-attend” conference for professionals occupying a range of roles within the toy and play communities.
“Thanks to a longer development and planning cycle, PlayCon will build upon its reputation as the quintessential networking and educational event in the toy and play industries,” said Jane Ritson-Parsons, group executive of global marketing at Hasbro, Inc. and chair of PlayCon’s new advisory board. “Our goal is to create an event with a fresh, two-year format that will deliver best-in-class content and speakers that are relevant and inspiring to inventors and designers, marketing and PR professionals, entrepreneurs, and executives.”
While the dates and location for PlayCon 2018 have not yet been finalized, advisory board members are considering moving the conference to San Francisco, CA, to provide attendees with a variety of hotel options and “walkable” experiences that will complement the conference’s energetic atmosphere. More information about PlayCon 2018 will be shared on the TIA website in the coming months.

Smiley Grows Food Success

Frederic Yu, one of the senior food buyers from leading European Supermarket and hypermarket chain Auchan was interviewed recently at SIAL 2016 in Paris, where he spoke candidly about the ongoing successes Smiley is enjoying at Auchan and in the busy European food industry marketplace today.
‘Smiley is blazing a trail for licensing brands in the food industry today, utilising its identity as the global icon for happiness and also its world famous icons to grow its roster of food licensees from 7 to 17 in just one calendar year. With SmileyWorld icons proving to create on-shelf stand out, improve positive perception of products and increase purchase intent, Smiley is one of the few characters that lends itself naturally to the creation of shaped product.’
In the interview Yu discusses why Smiley’s partnership with snack licensee Intersnack continues to be a huge success in the competitive potato chip market, as Smiley snacks continue to enjoy growth across their ranges, launching new flavours into the market and also introducing a range of DTRs. These new products have enjoyed a strong launch, and have huge potential in the snack market, despite competing with 28 other products in stores from big names like Baff.
In fact, the success of Smiley’s products at Auchan has already led to talks with Smiley President Franklin Loufrani about new avenues to explore in the FMCG market - Mr.Yu let slip that Smiley Yogurt could be a thing in the new year!

The Entertainer Set to Open First Stores in Cyprus

The Entertainer, the fastest-growing high street toy retailer in the UK, today confirms it will be opening its first European stores next month in Cyprus in a franchise partnership with Ermes Group, which is the country’s largest and most diversified retailer. 
The Entertainer branded toy shops will initially be launching in November within Ermes’ own Debenhams stores in three leading retail destinations in Cyprus – Larnaca, Limassol and Nicosia.  The first standalone store is targeted for opening next year.
Each store will provide the usual variety of choice and price points for families who are out toy shopping.  Children stepping into any of The Entertainer’s first three stores will be transported into a world of wonder, surrounded by all their favourite toys plus friendly and trained staff who are always on hand to help guide families around and advise on any purchase enquiries.
At each of the Grand Openings there will be balloon modelling, face painting and costume character appearances.  In line with The Entertainer’s store initiatives there will also be seasonal promotions and product demonstrations, along with plenty of fun in-store demos of the latest toys and gift card competitions.

  • Manage existing licensees in assigned categories:

    • Responsible for managing licensee press releases, cross marketing and promotions

  • Negotiate new licensed strategic partnerships for assigned segments in conjunction with established category strategies

I am looking for a role which utilises my skills in negotiation and relationship building and can develop my experience within the licensing field. Having licensed book content to a wide variety of customers from national Newspapers to international Publishers I would relish the experience to work in a new industry, licensing new content to new clients.
I realise that a move across from traditional publishing may mean a step down from the managerial role I was in before. I'm enthusiastic to work in a new industry and feel my skills are easily transferable and am happy to look outside licensing roles also.
