Breaking Bad Wins Mask Award

Breaking Bad Mask AwardFounded in 2008, Mask-arade has enjoyed steady sales growth, boosted this year by retail success through both HMV and The Works. Recent popular additions to the product range have further enhanced sales. They include a desktop standee of Walter-as-Heisenberg in one of the iconic Hazmat (hazardous materials) suits he wears to cook up crystal meth, and a mask of another Breaking Bad favourite: the cool, calm and very dangerous restaurateur and drug distributor Gustavo ‘Gus’ Fring.
Breaking Bad, the story of Walter White, a terminally ill teacher who goes into drug dealing to support his family, is a TV hit like no other. Mixing dark comedy with high drama, the show ran for five seasons and is widely regarded as one of the finest television series.
Ray Duffy, Managing Director of Mask-arade, said, “The Breaking Bad franchise is one of the biggest and most original adult drama successes of recent years and its memorable casts and storylines are a gift to character-based products of the sort Mask-arade has made so successful. Congratulations to Heisenberg and Jesse for topping our chart!”
Gregory Economos, Senior Vice President, Global Consumer Products, Sony Pictures Entertainment, says, “Many great shows have come from Sony Pictures Television for over 50 years, including I Dream of Jeannie, Charlie’s Angels, Seinfeld and Blacklist, but Breaking Bad is unlike anything we’ve seen before. “We have lived with this beautiful book for so long, it has become part of the fabric of our lives,” says Martin Gates.  “Twenty years on, we feel the time is right to breathe new life into the stories for a whole new generation of children, rediscovering beloved old characters and introducing some new female ones including adventurous Squirrel, resourceful Rabbit and the scheming Chief Weasel. There are just so many more stories to tell.”
Wind in the Willows: Mole of Mole End has been developed by MGP with Hoho Entertainment’s Oliver Ellis who has been responsible for rebooting classic children’s brands, The Basil Brush Show and Postman Pat.  He says: “We are currently in development on the bible and scripts and will have a trailer ready for early next year.  It’s an exciting project to work on because its heritage is so rich and the characters so familiar.”

Free Copyright Advice for Artists

On Wednesday, November 12, 2014, an attorney from the US Library of Congress’ Copyright Office will be the featured guest on the Art Licensing Info Ask Call.   Artists have submitted questions regarding the copyright submission process, legal aspects of copyright and more which will be covered in the hour long call.
“There is so much confusion and so many differing opinions about how to protect art from being used for profit without permission.” Tara Reed, who organizes the calls explained.  “I’m really excited about this call because I believe having someone from the Copyright Office will help sort out a lot of misconceptions and get enough interest that artists will be better educated on the subject.”
The U.S. Copyright Office, and the position of Register of Copyrights, were created by Congress in 1897 as a separate department of the Library of Congress. Twenty-two years earlier, Congress removed copyright registration from the district courts and centralized it in the Library of Congress. Today, the Copyright Office has approximately 390 employees, the majority of whom examine and register hundreds of thousands of copyright claims in books, music, movies, software, photographs, and other works of authorship each year. In fiscal year 2011, the Office processed more than 700,000 registration claims.
The Office’s registration system and the companion recordation system constitute the world’s largest database of copyrighted works and copyright ownership information.
The call will be held on Wednesday, November 12, 2014 at 11 am Pacific / 2 pm Eastern.  Artists are invited to join and listen live and the audio replay will also be available for free following the call.  Register for the details and to be sent the replay link when it is ready at:
