Toy Island has entered into a licensing partnership with Jay Franco and Sons for their ZippySack line of zippered fleece blankets. The partnership will allow Jay Franco and Sons to develop and sell a collection of ZippySacks featuring licenses such as Star Wars, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Paw Patrol, and Frozen.

Stars Say ‘Eh-Oh’ to Teletubbies at World Premiere

DHX Brands premiered the new series of Teletubbies, which starts on CBeebies on 9th November, this past weekend at the BFI on London’s South Bank with an array of famous faces in attendance.
Fearne Cotton, who provides one of the voices to the much-loved ‘Voice Trumpets’, joined the stars of the show, Tinky Winky, Dipsy, Laa-Laa and Po, on the green carpet.
Inside the BFI, other guests including Esther Rantzen, Imogen Thomas, Jennifer Saunders, Jess Smith and Berry (previous sun baby and new sun baby), Karen Hardy, Lilia Kopylova, Laura Carmichael and Vanessa Feltz.
Fearne Cotton commented: “It was so much fun seeing the new episodes on the big screen and hearing my voice was surreal!  It’s really nice to be back doing kid’s TV again; everyone has been so excited when I tell them I’m in Teletubbies. I’m going to win serious brownie points from my kids!”

Robert Postal 1940–2015

Licensing pioneer Robert Postal passed away September 28 at his home in New York City.

Robert Postal was born in 1940 in Pascagoula, Mississippi, where his father ran a sweater mill and Bob – after some years as a Hollywood caterer (Roberts of Hollywood), running the banquet department at Cantor’s Fairfax in Los Angeles, and service in the U.S. Army Reserves - ultimately found himself in the apparel industry as well. Mr. Postal spent time in India, China, Japan and Korea importing fabric and getting apparel made for US manufacturers and, after returning stateside, he started apparel company Mayfair Industries. Under Bob’s guidance, Mayfair acquired licenses for Bugs Bunny, Betty Boop, Mickey Mouse, The Simpsons, California Raisins, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles among others which helped the company grow rapidly.

In 1988, Bob went to Turner Broadcasting to talk to someone about the license for the Wizard of Oz. That someone turned out to be his future wife, Carole!  They were married in 1990.

After leaving Mayfair in 1991, Bob encouraged Carole to leave corporate life and start CopCorp – a retail consulting company that soon became a full-service licensing agency with clients including It’s Happy Bunny, Thomas & Friends, Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey, among others. In 2012, social media led Bob to get “LinkedIn” with fellow licensing agent Tamra Knepfer, eventually leading to Tamra and Carole joining forces as Knockout Licensing.

Along the way, Bob helped mentor young talent and teach them about the business of licensing and – as an artist himself with an interest in animation, cartoons, and comic books – served on the board of the Museum of Comic and Cartoon Art in New York City. Random House Children’s Books to Publish First Stampy Cat Book

Random House Books for Young Readers, an imprint of Random House Children’s Books, has acquired and will publish Stampy’s Lovely Book by Joseph Garrett, known as Stampy Cat on YouTube. Egmont released the book today in the U.S.

Stampy Cat is one of the biggest names in online gaming and family-friendly content, with more than 6.5 million subscribers and 4.1 billion cumulative views on YouTube. The book captures the essence of his personality and adventures, and includes games, activities, jokes, and information about Stampy and his friends.

Marmite Puzzle Set for Christmas Retail

Marmite has partnered with Hot Pickle and Gibsons to produce a 500-piece Marmite puzzle, available at retail from November.
The puzzle offers consumers the ultimate divisive challenge that customers will either ‘love or hate’, and has secured listings with retailers such as John Lewis, Harrods and Waitrose. Named Official Destination for CBS Consumer Products’ Classic TV Show Merchandise

CBS Consumer Products announced as the official destination for fans of CBS’s classic TV portfolio under the Television City brand. 
Merchandise from more than 42 TV programs in CBS’ portfolio, including timeless classics and past favorites, will be available on Each show will have its own shop by the end of next year. The first shops to be made available to consumers in November will include Beverly Hills, 90210; Happy Days; and Mighty Mouse.
The new shops will house both official and fan-created merchandise. The product offering will include T-shirts, apparel, mugs, tote bags, and home goods.

Masha and the Bear Outdoor Lines Proving Popular with Italian Kids

Maurizio Distefano Licensing has announced the success at retail of two recent licences in the Italian market for Masha and the Bear. Both have a strong outdoor focus and both enjoyed a strong response in the recent summer holiday season: Mondo, with its line of beach and outdoor play toys and accessories, and Eurasia, with a wide range of accessories for younger cyclists.
Maurizio Distefano, Founder and Director of MD Licensing, adds: “Already one of the top licensed properties on the Italian market, Masha and the Bear continues to indicate its wide appeal with new and diverse licences and retail success, as these excellent ranges have proven.”

Striker Entertainment to Oversee Licensing Program for Five Nights at Freddy’s

Striker Entertainment LLC has been appointed the worldwide licensing agent for Scottgames’ video game franchise Five Nights at Freddy’s (FNAF) and its upcoming spinoff FNAF World.
Five Nights at Freddy’s is a horror-themed video game series in which players take on the role of an overnight security guard at Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza, a family restaurant and game arcade, where they must survive against dangerous odds until 6 a.m.
Newly signed licensees include Bioworld for apparel and accessories; Funko for toys, plush, and collectible figures; Just Toys for impulse and novelty items; and Sanshee for convention merchandise. FNAF products will hit specialty retail channels this fall, with a full roll out of partners early next year.

The Hawaiian Tropic Brand Goes Beyond the Beach with New Apparel Line

Edgewell Personal Care Co., home of Hawaiian Tropic, has partnered with The Fred David International Group to announce the launch of its anticipated fashion line Hawaiian Tropic Apparel.
The Hawaiian Tropic Apparel 2016 collection features colorful prints, comfortable lightweight fabrics, and ready-to-wear styles reminiscent of the brand’s sunny aesthetic. The line will launch in November under the Fred David International Group, with plans to expand the range to incorporate resort and leisurewear for next fall.

TKO Signs Licensing Deal with Gertex

Technical Knockout Inc. (TKO) recently entered into a licensing agreement with Gertex for cold weather accessories, headwear, and other priority categories for men and women. The collection will debut hats, gloves, neckwear, and scarves that combine styling with functionality, and will target stores for the back-to-school category next year.  Recent additions include comfortable, functional athletic leg wear and agility training accessories. Plans are in place for an indoor to outdoor head-to-toe range.

Geronimo Stilton Hitting Screens in New Animated Series

Based on the best-selling children’s book that has been translated into 42 different languages, published in over 150 countries and sold more than 85 million books worldwide, Geronimo Stilton has jumped off the paper and onto screens in a new animated series. Currently airing on Toasted TV, Universal Sony Pictures Home Entertainment is set to release two new volumes, Geronimo Stilton: Season 1, Volume 3 and Volume 4, on DVD from October 29, 2015.

Saban Brands Announces New Executive Appointments

Saban Brands has appointed five new executives who will strengthen the company’s business and global operations across multiple departments.
Tori Cook, senior vice president of global retail business development, will lead Saban’s expanding global retail team. In this new role, Cook’s focus is to develop relationships and programs with retailers around the world. She will spearhead retail efforts across all product categories for the company’s full slate of entertainment and lifestyle properties. 
Marcy George has been named vice president of global consumer products. George will develop and execute a unified worldwide licensing strategy across the company’s entertainment brands and will also work closely with Dan Castle to support the lifestyle portfolio. George will lead and oversee the licensing sales, product development, and consumer products creative teams.
Jennifer Wexler has moved into a full-time role as senior vice president of marketing after consulting for Saban Brands Lifestyle Group (SBLG) for the past six months out of the company’s New York office. Wexler will oversee the global marketing strategies and brand campaigns for the company’s full portfolio of entertainment and lifestyle brands. 
Stan Wan, creative director of Saban Brands Lifestyle Group, has been brought on to manage the company’s lifestyle business on all aspects of the brands’ visual communication including brand ethos and product authenticity. 
Finally, Scott Rosenbaum has been appointed to the role of senior vice president of business and legal affairs. In this role, Rosenbaum is responsible for all of Saban Brands’ legal affairs, including the management and oversight of the company’s legal department across all areas, including entertainment and media, marketing, acquisitions, licensing and merchandising, and intellectual property.

Lesley Anne Ivory Ramping Up Success

The ongoing Lesley Anne Ivory exhibition is seeing continued success.
Hundreds of people attended the Private View at the Chris Beetle’s Gallery, with 136 images on display. Signed copies are available upon request from the gallery.  
The exhibition continues until Saturday 14th November.
The feline favourites have seen their images immortalized on mugs, plates, spice jars, calendars and more.
She recently signed with Gibson Games, in another licensing deal to add to her roster.

King Features Partners for Digital Licensing

King Features Syndicate has partnered with Zynga, Scientific Gaming, and Dragonplay to bring its classic brands to digital platforms through social games, social media integrations, and other mobile apps.
Next year, Zoobe Messaging will debut animated 3D Popeye avatars for mobile apps and messaging services. Fashion UK recently launched a Betty Boop-inspired dress-up game in the UK and the U.S., and Boluga will launch the Flash Gordon mobile game this fall in numerous markets and languages around the world. This summer, European Games Group launched Flash Gordon virtual goods, costumes, and accessories as in-game purchases in the Hero Zero MMO game, with offerings featuring The Phantom coming soon. In late 2015, Walkinglife Media will debut Popeye computer and mobile games in China.
In Japan, Dena has debuted virtual Betty Boop goods to be sold within its “mobage” social networking service. Web Marketing Japan will launch Popeye and Betty Boop smartphone decorations and smartphone application software for Facebook graphics, and Sammy Networks will launch Popeye and Olive Oyl mobile pachinko games. M-Up will utilize Betty Boop and Popeye for its delivery services for NTT DoCoMo customers, including vocal in-character inquiry responses, screen decorations, flash animation, and smartphone screen icons.
King Features has also partnered with Kuboo, a social networking site that brings safe and wholesome entertainment to kids, to create premium content for the site featuring Popeye and a new virtual world called Goon Island. Now in development, Goon Island will feature Popeye-themed games and virtual items such as clothing, furnishings, and decorations.

Snoopy Finds New Home on U.S. Television

francetv distribution, the commercial arm of France Télévisions, has announced that coming out of MIPCOM 2015, it has finalized a new deal for its Peanuts shorts with Turner Broadcasting’s Boomerang in the United States. The shorts will premiere on Boomerang with promotional crossover on Cartoon Network (U.S.) and the Cartoon Network app.
The Peanuts characters have found a new home on U.S. television. A new generation of viewers will soon discover Charlie Brown, Snoopy and the rest of the Peanuts gang on Boomerang. This deal is the next step in the Peanuts brand’s commitment to bringing new content to the next generation of fans and is timed with the upcoming feature film, The Peanuts Movie, from Twentieth Century Fox and Blue Sky Studios that is releasing globally this fall.

PMI Names Two New VP Positions

Precious Moments Inc. has appointed Patrice Pagliaas as the vice president of licensing and Peggy Pak as the vice president of creative.
Pagliaas will oversee the global licensing business for the brand and manage co-branding programs for the core gift program, oversee retail development with licensees, and seek DTR opportunities.
Pak has distinguished herself in different facets of creative development and product management for more than 20 years. She will oversee the creative department, including product development.

Evel Knievel In New App Launch

Barnstorm Games has launched its newest iOS App based on the original daredevil hero, Evel Knievel.  Barnstorm delivers a motorcycle game that gives players an opportunity to perform all of the outrageous jumps at the same historic sites where Evel performed the legendary stunts himself.

Over 100 Million YouTube Hits for Everything’s Rosie

YouTube hits now total more than 100 million worldwide for preschool series Everything’s Rosie.  As children increasingly reach out online for their favourite shows the brand has seen its fan base extend to include a new generation of tech-savvy preschoolers.  Whilst also enjoying success across digital platforms, Rosie continues to be a staple in the schedules of traditional broadcast partners, highlighted by the recent completion of a fourth series.
With 104 x 11’ episodes, co-produced by JCC, licensor V&S Entertainment are able to draw on a pool of animation, which sits alongside exclusive web-only content.
Official Everything’s Rosie YouTube channels launched in 2014 with English, Spanish and Latin American.  These were swiftly followed by Arabic, Hebrew, Turkish and Serbian, with more in the pipeline.  Rosie airs in over 170 countries including amongst others, CBeebies (UK), Clan TVE & Canal Panda (Spain), RAI (Italy), Karusel (Russia), V-me (US), ETV (South Africa).

CLA hasappointed Philip Graf CBE to its Board as Senior Independent Director.
Graf is Chairman for the Gambling Commission and Chair of CfBT Education Trust, a leading education consultancy and service organization.
In his new role as Senior Independent Director with CLA, Graf will provide support for the current co-chairs, the Managing Director and other executives; address shareholders issues and concerns; and represent other rights holders whose works are licensed under Extended Collective Licensing but are without board representation.
The appointment of Graf to this new position follows a recent reduction in the size of the CLA board which restructured in 2014 from 18 to 8 members.  
Adam Singer, Joint Chair of CLA added: 
“Philip brings knowledge from commercial management as well as extensive regulatory experience from journalism, television and gaming. What makes Philip special is his ability to combine these skills with a warmth that encourages dialogue.
