Mega Brands Partners with UP&L for Despicable Me Building Sets

despicable meOut of the Blue Enterprises will launch an extensive new toy line, animated series, and digital apps based on its newly acquired legacy brand, Colorforms.
New products in the line are expected to debut at retail next fall, based on brands including Nickelodeon’s Dora the Explorer, Bubble Guppies, SpongeBob SquarePants, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Peter Rabbit, Pete the Cat, and Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood.

Cupcake Digital, Peanuts Worldwide Partner for Digital Publishing

peanutsCupcake Digital has partnered with Peanuts Worldwide LLC to develop new digital applications starring characters from the Peanuts franchise. The agreement covers digital publishing and activity apps for fans worldwide. The first planned releases are enhanced storybook apps based on classic Peanuts artwork featuring Charlie Brown, Snoopy, and the gang. Cupcake will also create apps surrounding the release of the Peanuts Movie next year.
The first enhanced storybook app, with activities based on a “Kick the Football” storyline, is slated for release in November. The apps are targeted for kids ages 3 to 7 and tweens and will be available on the App Store; Amazon Appstore for Android; and Google Play, Nook, and Nabi devices.

The Wildflower Group Signs Old Toledo Brands for Rapala

The Wildflower Group has signed Old Toledo Brands for a multi-year agreement with Rapala to produce a range of technical, casual, and lifestyle fashions for the fishing brand. Daymond John, CEO and founder of fashion company FUBU and star on Shark Tank, will oversee the design concept boards for the new collection.
The agreement with Old Toledo covers technical, lifestyle, and casual apparel with and without DuPoint Teflon Protector. The line will include T-shirts, sweatshirts, hoodies, headwear, and footwear. The new fashions will be distributed throughout the U.S. to mass market, specialty, fleet and farm stores, as well as current Rapala retailers beginning next fall. Extends Partnership with NBA, Turner Sports has renewed a multi-year partnership with Turner Sports and the National Basketball Association (NBA). As part of the extended agreement, will continue its role as presenting sponsor of “NBA on TNT Premiere Week presented by,” “TNT NBA Tip-Off presented by,” and all NBA TV pregame shows.
Overall, will partner with TNT and NBA TV to provide sponsorship elements to more than 200 combined NBA games during the 2014-15 season, including programming during the preseason, regular season, NBA All-Star 2015, and NBA Playoffs.

AMP Group USA Partners with NASCAR for Kart Racing Experience

AMP Group USA has partnered with NASCAR to form I-DRIVE NASCAR, a new indoor high performance kart racing facility set to open in Orlando, Fla. on December 19. The family-friendly entertainment complex will feature kart racing, a bowling alley, a gaming arcade, a dine-in restaurant, and a corporate meeting space. The new business is part of AMP Group’s ongoing efforts to revitalize the north end of International Drive and will create approximately 150 jobs.
The I-DRIVE NASCAR facility will feature a half-mile indoor track and environmentally friendly electric karts, powered by Sodikarts and capable of safely reaching speeds up to 45 mph.

AMP Group will build the blueprint for I-DRIVE NASCAR in Orlando before expanding to other U.S. markets and internationally to Mexico, Brazil, and Argentina.

Origin Food Group, Chiquita Launch Smoothie Line

Origin Food Group has partnered with Chiquita to create Chiquita Daybreak Fruit and Yogurt Smoothies. Each Daybreak Fruit and Yogurt Smoothie is packed with 8 grams of protein, 10 percent of your daily fiber, and premium probiotics.
Daybreak is available in orange banana, orange strawberry, peach guanabana, pineapple mango, and strawberry banana, and are available in both grab-n-go 10-ounce and family 32-ounce bottles. Daybreak contains no rBST hormones and is gluten-free. Daybreak is available in select Wal-Mart stores.
Beanstalk is Chiquita’s exclusive licensing agency and brought Chiquita and Origin Food Group together.

Tapatio Signs Brand Central as Licensing Agency

Tapatio Foods LLC has signed Brand Central LLC as its licensing agency to develop a food and beverage licensing program. Brand Central will be targeting specific food and beverage categories for Tapatio’s partnerships, including collaborations with top CPG companies and fully branded food extension opportunities.

Postobello to Expand Line of Home Goods in Partnership With AALMG

All American Licensing & Management Group (AALMG) has signed with furniture lifestyle brand Postobello to develop a line of case and upholstery goods and home accessories. The comprehensive line, which will include bed frames, dining tables, sofas, and lamps, will incorporate and showcase the company’s Italian name of “beautiful room.”
AALMG plans to broaden Postobello’s distribution by expanding the company into a lifestyle brand with products that create an elegant and comfortable environment, as well as with new lines of products. Postobello was co-founded in 1995 by Jen Kates and her mother, Jude Scarboro, in Hollywood, Calif. and formerly licensed with Drexel Heritage.

River of Goods to Offer Downton Abbey Product Line

downton abbeyAn agreement was brokered by Knockout Licensing that grants River of Goods the licensing rights to create the first lighting collection inspired by the British TV show Downton Abbey. The line will include decorative floor and table lamps, wall sconces, accent lamps, pendants, and chandeliers based on the period drama, which spans the years leading up to World War I through the 1920s. The lamps will range from suggested retail prices of $35 to $400 and will debut at AmericasMart Atlanta market next January.


Bulldog Licensing to Represent Shopkins

Bulldog Licensing has signed an agreement to represent Shopkins, a line of collectibles inspired by items in a grocery store. The brand debuted in the UK during Brand Licensing Europe.
“Shopkins is a massive opportunity for the UK licensing market,” Bulldog Group MD Rob Corney said. “It has massive support from toy partner Flair, extremely strong characterization from Licensor Moose and a licensing program that will be growing very quickly based on the reaction we had at BLE. All of the partners involved have a pedigree in delivering brands from the collectible world which offer huge commercial opportunities and longevity.”

DreamWorks and Igloo Books Join Forces

DreamWorks Animation Publishing and IglooBooks have joined forces to begin a new phase of storytelling in the UK.  The recently formed and fast-growing DreamWorks Animation Publishing Group, who create print and digital book materials inspired by DreamWorks Animation’s vast IP library, has appointed IglooBooks for the development, sale and distribution of its core publishing throughout the territory.
IglooBooks have recently worked with DreamWorks Animation Publishing on the successful launch of a range of Postman Pat movie tie-in books and will this month launch the first titles against the popular TV series Dragons: Riders of Berk.
Under the new master agreement which will include coloring and activity, storybooks, novelty and eBook formats, IglooBooks’ first launch will be a series of titles against the much-anticipated Penguins of Madagascar theatrical release this December.  As the business moves into 2015, IglooBooks will publish and distribute print books and eBooks against a number of family favorite DreamWorks Animation franchises including Kung Fu Panda, Madagascar, Shrek and The Croods.  They will also focus their publishing efforts on DreamWorks Animation’s television content as well as new upcoming theatrical releases Home, opening in UK cinemas in March 2015, and B.O.O. opening in UK cinemas in October 2015.

Rainbow Celebrates 20th Year at MIPCOM

Frainbowamily entertainment specialist Rainbow celebrates its 20th birthday this year.  The studio was founded in 1994 by creative entrepreneur Iginio Straffi and visitors to MIPJUNIOR and MIPCOM got the chance to help celebrate!

 Iginio Straffi, President and CEO of Rainbow, set up the company two decades ago and transformed it into a flagship company that now boasts ten subsidiary companies who deal with a wide range of productions, from TV and movies, to toys and internet as well as a number of multimedia products. Today Rainbow represents one of the largest and most complete animation studios in the world and is the only example of a fully-integrated production company in Italy. It is a major European studio, with more than 300 employees and a network of freelancers who contribute to Rainbow brands including Winx Club, one of the most popular girl’s properties in the world, Mia and me, and the eagerly anticipated new animation Royal Academy (working title).

Bulldog Licensing Inc. has announced that US clothing partner Lotty Dotty has secured a deal with entertainment brand Talking Tom and Friends for a new apparel range. 
Talking Tom and Friends is the flagship franchise of multinational entertainment company Outfit7 Limited. The franchise has a presence in the digital space, with the apps having achieved over 2 billion downloads since launch and boasting 230 million monthly active users. There are currently six main characters in Talking Tom and Friends - Talking Tom, Talking Angela, Talking Ginger, Talking Ben, Talking Pierre and Talking Gina – and a total of fourteen apps. In addition music videos featuring the characters have been a huge hit on YouTube, as has the series of animated webisodes produced in collaboration with Disney Interactive. Further underpinning the brand’s incredible licensing potential, Talking Tom and Friends also has a CGI 3D animated series and new movie in the pipeline.
Lotty Dotty will be producing T-shirts adorned with a printed Talking Tom and Friends figure and a range of Velcro-backed outfits. Bulldog represents the rights for Talking Tom and Friends in the US and Canada through its New York-based company.
“This is a very innovative way to use what is a very innovative brand,” says Bulldog Licensing Inc MD, Laurie Windrow. “The range will undoubtedly be a big hit at retail and we are looking forward to seeing how it performs.”

Kids India Show Grows

Kids India, the latest trade fair from Spielwarenmesse eG, continues on the road to success. The second edition of Kids India attracted visitors and exhibitors from all provinces of India and beyond the country’s borders. Altogether 153 exhibitors and 5,726 trade visitors took part in the Indian trade fair from 18 to 20 September, which is 40 per cent more exhibitors and 10 per cent more visitors than at the premiere of the Indian B2B fair the year before.  

The fair organizer, Spielwarenmesse eG, enlarged the display area from 6,200 m² to 8,700 m² as a result of demand. “We are delighted that Kids India has positioned itself so quickly in the Indian market,” says Ernst Kick, CEO of Spielwarenmesse eG. “My team organizes many trade fairs all over the world, but it is something special for us when a new fair is so successful in such a short time. In my view the fair has become established in and for India,” says Kick.

 “Kids India is one of the finest toy fairs that is being organised in only its second edition. We met with both buyers and manufacturers from across the country along with a few global participants as well. It has been great exposure for the brand and we are looking forward to a long term association and an even bigger participation next year,” said Rajesh Vohra, CEO of Artsana India / Chicco.

Lawless to Represent Good Sign

good signLawless Entertainment has announced their appointment as representatives for licensing and merchandising in North America for Good Sign.

The brand was created in 1994 by Michael Loughrey, and has had many licensees worldwide since then, including Barrett Sportswear (apparel and tote bags), Verilhac (back to school), Atlex (shoes), Classico San Francisco (postcards), and Rita Marlow (children’s apparel). Les Verreries d’Arc, the leading worldwide glassware manufacturer, developed 43 products that were sold worldwide. Additionally, French publisher Le Cherche Midi placed Good Sign on the front cover of a book written in 2002 by Pierre Delaporte and Teddy Follenfant entitled Sustainable Development.

Good Sign merchandise has been featured in many major U.S. retail outlets including Macy’s, the Mercantile Group, Dayton Hudson and JC Penney. Additionally, QVC, America’s leading direct purchase TV station, offered Good Sign “Keep it alive” t-shirts nationwide on Earth Day.
Good Sign has an extensive style guide which is adaptable to all kinds of merchandise, and specific graphic and word combinations can be created on demand.

M4e Signs with Atlantyca for New Book Series

m4eM4e AG in Germany has signed an option deal with Atlantyca IP Agency,  for the television and licensing rights to the successful comedy mystery book series written by Lucia Vaccarino, “Me, Mum & Mystery.
The company will seek to develop the book series into a live-action series for kids, which features a special relationship between a mother, Linda, and her 11-year old daughter Emily, who together run an inherited detective agency in a small village. Translation rights to the book series – which counts 8 titles so far plus more in development - have been sold in Spanish, Catalan, Greek and Indonesian.

Sony Pictures Studio and Smurfs Zone Set to Open at motiongate Dubai

Dubai Parks and Resorts LLC, a Meraas Holding company, has reached an agreement with Sony Pictures Consumer Products and International Merchandising, Promotion and Services (IMPS) to set up Sony Pictures Studio and Smurfs Zone at motiongate Dubai.
The Sony Pictures Studio and Smurfs Zone will contain 12 themed attractions inspired by Sony Pictures theatrical releases, including Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, Hotel Transylvania, Ghostbusters, The Green Hornet, Underworld, Zombieland, and The Smurfs.
Featuring four unique zones, inclusive of the Sony Pictures Studio and Smurfs Zone, motiongate Dubai will take visitors on a cinematic journey of discovery, bringing Hollywood icons from the big screen to life. The park will leverage latest-in-technology attractions and new-generation rides.
