Silvergate Media’s Octonauts Gathers Significant Momentum in Asia

Silvergate Media today outlines the outstanding success of its preschool property Octonauts in Asia and shares details of plans that will fuel further growth across the region, including the brand’s recent broadcast and consumer products launch in Taiwan.
Octonauts, which is owned and developed solely by Silvergate Media, debuted on Taiwan’s Eastern Broadcasting’s cable EBC Yoyo Channel last month in addition to EBC Variety Channel in a primetime morning slot. Now, with consumer demand building, master global toy partner Fisher Price is gearing up to introduce its range of toys into the market this Autumn and will support the launch with a series of nationwide retail events and meet and greets. Rovio Entertainment, Iron Maiden Partner for Angry Birds Evolution Halloween Edition

Rovio Entertainment will feature Iron Maiden in a special Halloween version of Angry Birds Evolution. Eddie—the mascot of Iron Maiden—will be a playable character as Eddie the Bird in Angry Birds Evolution this Halloween season. In this two-week character event beginning October 18, players who recruit Eddie the Bird to their team will be able to keep him as a player permanently.

There will be four evolutions of the character to represent different albums from Iron Maiden. In addition, the Bird Island will be transformed into a Halloween-themed, heavy metal oasis full of tributes to Eddie, Iron Maiden, and the heavy metal universe.

Rovio will offer fans exclusive Eddie the Bird merchandise, available for a limited time during this event. Additionally, Eddie the Bird will also join Iron Maiden’s Iron Maiden: Legacy Of The Beast mobile role-playing game (RPG) that will launch next year.

As part of the new distribution deal for the series, the 52 x 11 minute series has been renamed “Awesome Magical Tales”.
The HD flash animation series tells the story of Jeremiah, Fury and Trafalgar, three best friends and second generation fairytale characters who are determined to be themselves  – no matter what their well-known fairytale parents think about it.  

Discovery Communications, Parques Reunidos to Develop Themed Entertainment Centers

Parques Reunidos partnered with Discovery Communications to develop themed entertainment centers in North America, Western Europe, and Asia-Pacific. The integrated indoor entertainment centers will feature interactive entertainment facilities, rides, dining areas, and a retail store. This partnership will consist of approximately 10 family-friendly centers, each offering interactive experiences.

Discovery Communications features a portfolio of nonfiction, lifestyle, sports, and kids content brands. Discovery's programming is available in more than 220 countries and territories and reaches 3 billion cumulative viewers.

These entertainment centers will be approximately 5,000 square meters, and will be themed around topics including nature, space, the oceans, and adventure. Visitors will be able to interact with their favorite Discovery brands through inspired destinations that capture the spirit of adventure and exploration.

Parques Reunidos plans to develop entertainment spaces in shopping malls and downtown landmark buildings. The group is currently working with a variety of partners to build more than 20 centers in addition to the six that have already been signed, including Centro Comercial Thader (Murcia), Dolce Vita Tejo (Lisbon), Intu Lakeside (London), two at Centro Comercial Xanadú (Madrid), and Lionsgate Entertainment City (New York). These six projects will be opened within the next two years.

Giochi Preziosi, Planeta Junior, and Kotoc Unveil Gormiti at MIPJunior

Giochi Preziosi along with leading European children’s entertainment company Planeta Junior and animation studios Kotoc, premiered Gormiti, a brand new 3D CGI action - comedy TV series in front of key players of the kid’s entertainment industry and press audience at a special event during this year’s MIPJunior.
A planned total of 52 episodes each lasting 11 minutes will combine action and comedy, aiming boys 5-8, and it is based on global phenomenon Gormiti, created by Giochi Preziosi. The phenomenon was born in 2005, becoming really fast the leading boys action property throughout Europe, and distributed in over 50 countries. More than 500 million figures have been sold with a result of €1.5 Billion in retail Sales. Production of the series has already started and the first 26 episodes are scheduled for delivery in 2018.

eOne, Merlin Entertainments Enter Global Partnership to Develop New Peppa Pig Attractions

Entertainment One (eOne) entered a global partnership with Merlin Entertainments (Merlin) to develop and operate location-based entertainment attractions based on its popular preschool license Peppa Pig. 
The deal covers all territories excluding the UK, and Merlin will have exclusive rights for all location-based entertainment formats with the exception of China, which will be licensed to Merlin on a non-exclusive basis.
Merlin will create branded, standalone Peppa Pig attractions in multiple formats, and develop branded areas within existing Merlin’s Resort Theme Parks. Merlin will open in-park areas in two theme parks next year, and the first standalone attraction is expected to open in 2019. 

Jakks Pacific, Bay Tek Games to Develop Home Version of Popular Arcade Game

Bay Tek Games partnered with Jakks Pacific to develop and launch a home version of its ticket redemption arcade game Pull My Finger. The new game will be featured exclusively at Toys “R” Us this December, and be available to all retailers beginning next spring.

Pull My Finger was launched by Bay Tek in 2010 as a novelty ticket redemption game where players pull a monkey’s finger to launch a ball into a playfield to hit targets and win tickets.
Bay Tek will also look at its extensive catalog of existing IP, and future brand extensions may include digital games, board games, toys, character branding, and more. Bay Tek is currently rolling out Skee-Ball, the alley roller game that it acquired last year.

Dimensional Branding Group (DBG) is Bay Tek’s exclusive licensing agency representing Skee-Ball. Bay Tek and DBG have partnered to add new licensing partners and will continue to grow the brand.

The first Hey Duggee Cinema Experience will head to select theaters in Australia and feature brand new episodes and exclusive, never-before-seen content. Finlayson, Jewel Branding & Licensing to Bring Finlayson Brand into the U.S.

Finlayson signed with Jewel Branding & Licensing to bring its brand into the U.S. market. Jewel Branding has secured deals in home textiles, quilting fabric, and stationery.
Finlayson is a Scandinavian heritage retail brand with new stores opening in Hong Kong and China. Its patterns are licensed internationally in Europe and Asia, and will now expand into North America.
Last month licensee Lintex Linens debuted a collection of bed sheeting at the NY Home Textiles market. Camelot Fabrics will launch fabrics this month at Quilt Market, and Leap Year Publishing recently signed on to develop a range of stationery and calendar products that will launch next year.
The brand is available for licensing in key categories including fashion, apparel, gift, rugs, and home décor accessories.

CANAL+ has acquired two of FremantleMedia’s most anticipated dramas for France, following a deal with FremantleMedia International. The first French pay-TV channel has picked up the rights for Hard Sun, produced by FremantleMedia UK’s Euston Films, and Picnic at Hanging Rock, produced by FremantleMedia Australia.

Fun2Play Toys Launches Poo-nicorns Web Series and Web Game

Fun2Play Toys features the Poo-nicorn characters in a new web series and web game, which premiered on October 17.
Each episode in the series focuses on teaching kids about topics including individuality, tolerance, and understanding. Kids can also travel with the Poo-nicorns in their web series as they visit famous landmarks, such as the Poo-ramids or Poo York.

Master Toy for MarbleGen

Monello Productions, producer of the series, and TF1 Licences, who manages its licensing rights in France, are happy to announce the signature of an agreement with Lansay, French leader in the manufacturing of games and toys, for the series MarbleGen.
A first product line will be released on the start of the school year 2018, including marbles, marble throwing accessories and gadgets, training fields, etc., and the collection will be completed on the first quarter of 2019. A wide-ranging media plan will support the release of the MarbleGen line.

Peanuts, Uniqlo to Launch New Kaws X Peanuts UT Collection

Uniqlo will release a second Peanuts collection for the brand’s UT (Uniqlo T-shirts) range with New York-based artist Kaws. The collection will feature all-black, NYC-inspired designs in honor of Black Friday. Items will be available for men, women, and kids at most Uniqlo stores nationwide and at in late November.
The collection will feature four styles for men and children and two styles for women. Snoopy plush toys that feature Kaws' signature crossed-out eyes will also be available in large and small sizes.
The first Kaws X Peanuts UT collection launched last spring.   

Help for Heroes and Tesco announce the National Collection

Help for Heroes (H4H), the Charity which supports people with injuries and illness sustained while serving in the British Armed Forces, has announced the National Collection, a major fund-and-awareness-raising drive held in partnership with Tesco to coincide with the Charity’s tenth birthday in October.
The drive will take place at over 250 Tesco stores nationwide on the weekend of 14 and 15 October, when volunteers will collect money for Help for Heroes. Volunteers will also hand out flyers to raise awareness of how shoppers can support the Charity by purchasing a number of licensed items in store or online.
These products include Eggs for Soldiers free range eggs, Branston Bigger Baked Beans, Tesco personalised items (online only), and the new Cadbury Heroes Limited Edition tin, exclusive to Tesco - the first time Cadbury has re-introduced a traditional tin since moving all their assortments to tubs.

Zodiak Kids Joins Forces with China’s Fantawild on Tiger Team

Studio 100 Adds Drop Dead Weird and Random and Whacky to Portfolio

Studio 100 Media has acquired the international distribution rights for “Drop Dead Weird” and “Random and Whacky”, two new live action series from Australia, which will be introduced at Mipcom, stand R7.C15 (Studio 100 Media) and R7.H3 (m4e).
“Drop Dead Weird” (26 x 24’), created by Sally Browning and Dean Cropp, is an hilarious comedy series, targeting kids 6-12 years and a second season (26 x 24’) is already in development for 2019. The series is an Australian/Irish co-production by Ambience Entertainment, Air Pig Productions and Telegael. Studio 100 Media will be handling the worldwide distribution rights outside of the show’s home territories. The series premiered on 25 September 2017 on RTÈ2 (Ireland) and launches on 7TWO and KidsOn7 in Australia this October.

China Says “Nǐ hǎo” to Hoho’s Cloudbabies

Hoho Entertainment, the specialist kids’ production and distribution company co-founded by Oliver Ellis and Helen Howells, has signed a deal with Chinese Media company WOW DADI TECHNOLOGY to launch Cloudbabies in mainland China. 

In a 2-tier agreement, DADI has acquired the distribution and merchandising rights to Series 1 and has also committed to investing in the production of series 2 with a further 52 episodes which Hoho and DADI will co-produce under the new UK CHINA co-production treaty, soon to be ratified by the Chinese Government.

The deal arose following Howells’ invitation to speak at iABC during CICAF, China’s biggest animation festival held annually in Hangzhou, organised by Mega Media. The UK trade mission was supported by the UK’s Department of International Trade and the Children’s Media Conference.

Executive Seeks New Challenges
I have 8 years experience of working for a large London Publishing house licensing book content to third parties. I am looking for a role which utilises my skills in negotiation and relationship building and can develop my experience within the licensing field. Having licensed book content to a wide variety of customers from national Newspapers to international Publishers I would relish the experience to work in a new industry, licensing new content to new clients.
I realise that a move across from traditional publishing may mean a step down from the managerial role I was in before. I'm enthusiastic to work in a new industry and feel my skills are easily transferable and am happy to look outside licensing roles also.
