SPCP Outlines Global Licensing Strategy For Emojimovie: Express Yourself

Sony Pictures Consumer Products (SPCP) shared details from Emojimovie: Express YourSelf’s worldwide consumer products program and the licensing agents for multiple territories.
The licensing program will target kids ages 6 to 10 with a secondary audience of teens and young women. Key products will include toys, apparel and accessories, publishing, homewares, arts and crafts, back to school, giftware, and novelty.
The following licensing agents have joined SPCP’s line up: 20too Licensing in the Middle East; Biplano in France, Italy, Spain, and Portugal; Bradford Licensing in India; Click in China, South East Asia, and South Korea; J&M Brands in Benelux; Katalyst in Canada; Lizenzwerft in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland; Megalicense in Russia; Merchantwise in Australia and New Zealand; Rocket Licensing in the UK and Eire; TLC in Japan; Tycoon in Latin America.

Rovio Creates a Licensing Program for Kit^n^Kate 

Toonbox Animation partnered with Rovio Entertainment to create a consumer products licensing program for Kit^n^Kate, Toonbox’s educational short-form animated series for preschoolers. Kit^n^Kate has also been extended for two full seasons that will be available by the end of 2018.
In addition to airring Kit^n^Kate on ToonsTV, Rovio is the master publishing licensee through Rovio’s book publishing arm Kaiken Publishing. Rovio will now also act as Kit^n^Kate’s master licensee globally, excluding Russia and China, across categories including clothing and toys. Kit^n^Kate will be the first IP (Internet Protocol) outside of the Angry Birds universe in Rovio’s consumer products portfolio.

Playmates Toys Unveils TMNT line of WWE Ninja Superstars

Nickelodeon's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and WWE partnered for a line of Ninja Superstars. The co-branded action figures that feature the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles as iconic WWE Superstars were revealed during New York Comic Con.
The Ninja Superstars assortment from Playmates Toys, which will be available exclusively at Walmart next month, includes Leonardo as WWE Superstar John Cena, Raphael as WWE Hall of Famer Sting, Donatello as WWE Superstar Undertaker, and Michelangelo as WWE Hall of Famer "Macho Man" Randy Savage.

FremantleMedia Kids & Family Announces New European Licensees for Kate & Mim-Mim

FremantleMedia Kids & Family (FMK) announced the licensing roll out for preschool series Kate & Mim-Mim in Europe with new licensees for multiple categories and territories by Planeta Junior.
In Spain, Planeta Junior secured a publishing deal with Penguin Random House that will launch next year. A seasonal confectionery deal with Lacassa is also set for next year, and Big Picture will issue new home entertainment releases.
In Italy, Play Press launched a publishing deal across activity and sticker books. Additionally, Ferrarie will launch a costume character line and Perletii will have rainwear and umbrellas.
In Central and Eastern Europe, Planeta Junior has secured publishing deals with Edipresse in Poland and Albatross in Czech Republic and Slovakia.

Genius Brands International Launches SpacePOP Apparel Line at Select Kohl’s Stores  

Genius Brands International Inc. (GBI) will launch the first apparel program for SpacePOP at select Kohl’s stores nationwide and online this month.
GBI will debut a collection of SpacePOP sportswear from Jaya Apparel for tween girls at Kohl’s including tops, bottoms, skirts, and dresses. The new line will be promoted in a digital marketing campaign, which features YouTube influencers Sophia Grace and Angelic.
In addition to the new apparel line, Sony Music/Legacy Recordings will debut the SpacePOP original soundtrack at major retail stores across the U.S. and online. The first SpacePOP book, Not Your Average Princesses, is now available.
Next year, GBI will add new branded merchandise, including fashion dolls and figures from Madame Alexander Doll Co.; electronics, tech accessories, and electronic toys from KIDdesigns; loungewear and sleepwear from Mad Dog Concepts; bedding and bath textiles, accessories, and room décor from Franco Manufacturing; hosiery, head wear, and cold weather accessories from Berkshire Fashions; bags, backpacks, and accessories from FAB Starpoint; beauty and bath products from Taste Beauty; electronics from Bare Tree Media; craft and activity kits from Canal Toys; confections from Yowie Group Ltd.; accessories from H.E.R. Accessories; and home entertainment from Sony Pictures Home Entertainment.

Tinderbox Signs Boys Apparel Licensee for Halo

Tinderbox added Blues Clothing Ltd. to the consumer products licensing program for Halo. Blues Clothing Ltd. will create apparel across the UK and Ireland. The collection will include apparel for boys ages 8 to 16 and will launch next year.

Discovery Consumer Products Introduces Eurosport Licensing Program

Discovery Consumer Products will introduce a licensing program for Eurosport. 
Next year, the Eurosport line will roll out a multifaceted licensing program with a range of cycling products for children and adults. To support the new line of products, Discovery Consumer Products will develop a marketing program that aligns with key broadcasting events, beginning with the Tour de France next year. Products will debut in the UK, Germany, Italy, and France, followed by the Netherlands, Nordics, Spain, Poland, Romania, Russia, and the Middle East.
Discovery Consumer Products also plans to expand the brand into lifestyle fashion, entry-level sports equipment for kids, and Eurosport Owned Events Merchandise for tournaments, such as the FIA World Touring Car Championship. In addition to availability at retailers in local markets, the launch of an e-commerce store for the brand is also planned. 

Jazwares Named Master Toy Licensee for Animated Series Molang in North America and Latin America

Millimages appointed Jazwares as the master toy licensee for the animated series Molang in North America and Latin America. Jazwares will introduce a range of toys including figures, play sets, vehicles, and plush that will be available next year.

Fraggle Rock Reimagined for HBO Series

The Jim Henson Co. announced that Fraggle Rock will return this year on HBO. The new HD version will be offered to international buyers for the first time at MIPJunior and MIPCOM this year.
The series follows the adventures of the subterranean creatures and features a mix of music from all genres with themes of friendship, tolerance, diversity, and environmental awareness. Fraggle Rock was remastered to HD by illuminate.

Gwen Stefani, Mattel Give First Look at New Kuu Kuu Harajuku Fashion Doll Line

A sneak peek at Gwen Stefani’s fashion doll line from Mattel was released last week. Based on Stefani’s new animated series, Kuu Kuu Harajuku, which premiered on Nickelodeon in the U.S. this month, the new line will be available in the spring.

Toca Boca Launches Kids Video Service Toca TV

Toca Boca launched Toca TV in more than 150 countries. Toca TV is a video-streaming service for kids ages 5 to 9. It includes original and curated videos from around the web. The videos are free of third-party advertising, sponsored product placement, and pre-roll ads.
Toca TV also gives kids the opportunity to use the recording tool and its animated filters and stickers to create their own videos.
Toca Boca worked with more than 75 independent creators and multi-channel networks, including BroadbandTV (BBTV), DreamworksTV, AwesomenessTV, Studio71, and Freedom! Toca TV subscribers will also have access to exclusive kid-hosted shows and animated originals produced and directed by Toca Boca.

Sparkling Ice, DreamWorks Animation Partner for Trolls Promotion

Talking Rain Beverage Co., the maker of Sparkling Ice water, collaborated with DreamWorks Animation in support of the Trolls release next month. Sparkling Ice will kick off its UnconTROLLable Flavor campaign, which features sweepstakes, limited-edition product packaging, advertising and in-store marketing support, field marketing, and a shopper rewards program.
The UnconTROLLable Rewards program grants consumers of Sparkling Ice products movie-related rewards. Prizes include movie tickets, concession cash, music downloads, branded swag, and more. The UnconTROLLable Screening Sweepstakes Facebook contest allows fans to enter online sweepstakes to win a hometown screening of Trolls.
Sparkling Ice also features a series of Trolls fridge packs, including limited-edition coloring cans.

Space Racers Begins Countdown to Season Two on Sprout

Space Racers LLC announced that Space Racers will premiere season two on Sprout next month. The show will air Saturdays and Sundays, with new episodes premiering each Saturday.
Space Racers will launch a nationwide contest in which parents are invited to submit a photo of their young ones to, where they can enter to win an all-expenses paid trip to Space Camp for their family. Each daily winner will receive a family membership pass to a local science museum. The contest will run until Nov. 4.
On Nov. 5, select science museums nationwide will celebrate the premiere of season two. The U.S. Space and Rocket Center in Huntsville, Ala. will serve as the official “Mission Control” for the festivities. Other Mission Support Centers include: Space Center Houston; The Virginia Air & Space Center in Hampton, Va.; NASA Wallops Flight Facility Visitors Center in Wallops Island, Va.; The Museum of Flight in Seattle, Wash.; The Challenger Learning Center in Normal, Ill.; and USGS Astrogeology Science Center in Flagstaff, Ariz.

ReedPOP Launches New Robot Chicken Merchandise

Stoopid Buddy Stoodios (SBS) and Cartoon Network Enterprises (CNE) partnered with ReedPOP to launch a Robot Chicken merchandise collection, featuring T-shirts and other items to be sold at conventions, online, and at select retailers.
ReedPOP will create a range of non-exclusive items for Robot Chicken including apparel, barware, pins, plush toys, and key chains.  

Nelvana Lands Consumer Products Partners for Super Wings in France

Nelvana added new consumer products partners in France for its animated series Super Wings, including AD Global for toys and Canal Toys for arts and crafts. Super Wings airs on Piwi+ in France.
In addition to AD Global and Canal Toys, Nelvana signed consumer products agreements for shoes from Chauss Europ; puzzles and board games from Clementoni; wheeled toys from D’Arpèje; ride-ons from Famosa; publishing from Hemma; bicycles from Pik and Roll; bedding from Sahinler; and apparel and gifts from Sun City.
Nelvana holds the merchandise licensing rights for the series in North America, where it represents Super Wings in all categories except toys, which are distributed by Auldey Toys in the U.S. and Imports Dragon in Canada. Auldey also distributes Super Wings toys in France.

Turner’s Cartoon Network EMEA Unveils New Product Launches for The Amazing World of Gumball

Cartoon Network’s The Amazing World of Gumball has new merchandise available in Spain, Portugal, Central and Eastern Europe, and the Middle East.
In Iberia, the main category is toys, with products from Simba, Play by Play, Comansi, and Fournier in stores across the region. In the publishing category, Norma launched its Amazing World of Gumball comic across Spain this summer, while Devir and Goody have released publishing ranges in Portugal.
In Iberia, Karactermania recently launched a range of bags and stationery. There will also be stationery from Cife and Erik Group and accessories from Continente.  
Department store El Corte Inglés will debut a line of kids’ nightwear and apparel this fall and Zippy also added a boys’ apparel collection. Astro Europa’s collection of accessories includes products from supermarket chains Continente and Dekora.
In Poland and Romania, Cartoon Network launched fashion, homewares, and back-to-school ranges, with more to roll out next year. In Romania, Total Office launched its back-to-school Gumball range that was supported by promotional events in Carrefour. The apparel category for Poland includes a LPP SA line at Reserved Kids and E Plus M’s collection at Auchan. In addition, Verte debuted a stationery line and Carbotex launched bed linen. Cartoon Network also partnered with Perfetti Van Melle for its Fruitella confectionery product that will be supported by digital, social media, and in-store branding.
The Amazing World of Gumball rides are now open at Cartoon Network Zone at IMG Worlds of Adventure in Dubai.

Ludia Games, Buzzr Partner for New Game

In a deal brokered by FremantleMedia North America’s (FMNA) licensing division, the U.S.-based game show channel Buzzr will partner with Ludia Games for the launch of the Buzzr Casino game. Buzzr Casino combines elements from Family Feud, Card Sharks, Press Your Luck, Let’s Make A Deal, and more.
Players will have a chance to unlock new slots based on classic TV game shows and view memorable moments from the library of retro game show content that currently airs on the Buzzr network. The Buzzr Casino app is available for free on the App Store and Google Play.

Beanstalk to Develop Consumer Products Program for Bear Grylls

Beanstalk signed Bear Grylls for representation and will build a lifestyle program in Europe and North America covering a range of categories, including apparel, accessories, and outdoor products.

Tinderbox to Extend Xbox Brand into Consumer Products

Beanstalk will represent Microsoft’s Xbox brand in the UK, Europe, Australia, and New Zealand. Tinderbox, the digital division of Beanstalk, will oversee the development of the Xbox licensing program.

Mattel Creations Expands Executive Team with Cheryl Gresham and Justin Richardson

Mattel Creations appointed Cheryl Gresham as the vice president, global media and marketing integration, and Justin Richardson as the vice president, global content distribution and strategy.
Gresham is responsible for leading the company’s Global Media Team in the development and execution of its brands’ media strategies through increased consumer awareness and engagement. Gresham is expected to maximize the value of Mattel’s investments in consumer media and will be based in the company’s El Segundo office.
Richardson will oversee Mattel’s global content distribution portfolio of brands such as Thomas & Friends, Barbie, Monster High, Hot Wheels, American Girl, Ever After High, and more, with distribution teams in the U.S., Asia, Europe, Russia, the Middle East, and Africa. Richardson will operate out of Mattel Creations’ London office.
Additionally, Balsam-Schwaber will be a keynote speaker for MIP Jr. on Sunday, Oct. 16. Balsam-Schwaber will discuss the intersections between play and content, and share insight into Mattel Creations’ approach to creating content across all platforms and channels.

GENERAL SUMMARY: Creates strategic direction for active licensee base and negotiates new partnerships within assigned categories to achieve growth objectives.   Directs tactical execution of licensed product lines from concept/line plan through commercialization.  


  • Manage existing licensees in assigned categories: 
    • Evaluate licensee’s quarterly marketing, retail and financial forecasts to ensure licensees on are track to meet established contractual obligations, royalty payments and forecast goals.
    • Organize and run licensee orientations, business reviews, semiannual/quarterly line reviews, and brain storm sessions.
    • Address specific licensee performance issues
    • Negotiate renewals on a timely basis
    • Provides input for annual departmental budget and plan
  • Ensure licensees develop seasonal lines in time for internal seasonal review and develop documents and presentations to communicate licensee’s initiatives to internal Crayola departments
    • Set trend direction and make recommendations for new product entry
    • Direct category research and product concept testing as needed with the consumer insights team
    • Work with creative and product development on design and creative direction for licensed product and packaging
    • Responsible for managing licensee press releases, cross marketing and promotions
    • Ensure adherence to internal approval process (i.e. safety, quality, financial, legal, content, creative, consumer activation, consumer affairs etc.) and assist in resolving issues.
  • Negotiate new licensed strategic partnerships for assigned segments in conjunction with established category strategies
    • Research, secure and develop new licensees building upon the success of existing segments in order to achieve predictable, profitable and sustainable growth
    • Negotiate deal terms including: grant of rights, royalty rates, guarantees, projections and business plans
  • 7 years’ experience in licensing or consumer marketing work for a CPG company.

I have 8 years experience of working for a large London Publishing house licensing book content to third parties. I am looking for a role which utilises my skills in negotiation and relationship building and can develop my experience within the licensing field. Having licensed book content to a wide variety of customers from national Newspapers to international Publishers I would relish the experience to work in a new industry, licensing new content to new clients.
I realise that a move across from traditional publishing may mean a step down from the managerial role I was in before. I'm enthusiastic to work in a new industry and feel my skills are easily transferable and am happy to look outside licensing roles also.
