Content powerhouse Rainbow heads to BLE with its strongest lineup yet, a new show to introduce, and exciting news. Rainbow will present Maggie & Bianca, Fashion Friends, Winx Club, World of Winx, Regal Acedemy and will announce their brand new property, 44 Cats.
 
44 Cats is a CG-animated preschool series for boys and girls, and has a multi-million dollar budget.
 
The series focuses on is a group of cats that acts like humans when no one is around. The name, 44 Cats comes from a popular Italian song that made its first TV broadcast on singing competition series Zecchino d’oro in 1968 – the song is now a touchtone of Italian culture and has even been sung by Pavarotti.

Discovery Consumer Products, Macy’s Launch Say Yes to the Dress Special Occasion Dresses

Discovery Consumer Products and Macy’s will expand the Say Yes to the Prom partnership with the debut of the Say Yes to the Dress juniors line for special occasions. This follows the companies’ partnership for a prom dress and jewelry line, which launched earlier this year.
 
Available at 200 Macy’s stores and at macys.com, the Say Yes to the Dress juniors collection aims to help young women and juniors as they celebrate milestone moments, including homecoming, formals, galas, and more. The new line features dresses at accessible price points.
 
Inspired by TLC’s Say Yes to the Prom initiative to help teens who may not be able to afford a prom dress, the Say Yes to the Prom collection launched at Macy’s last spring and featured more than two dozen gowns and a full line of accessories.  

Buzzfeed Opens BLE

BuzzFeed is the keynote at the session, called ‘Licensing: the next generation’, which takes place at 12pm on Wednesday 11 October and will debate next gen platforms, content, retail & merchandising, commerce and tech.
 
Eric Karp, head of licensing at BuzzFeed, will be joined by Dan Amos, Tinderbox, John Erlandson, Authentic Brands Group and Naz Cuevas, Sybo Games’ new head of licensing.

The Jim Henson Co. Appoints Rockpool Licensing as Licensing Agency of Record in the UK

The Jim Henson Co. appointed Rockpool Licensing to represent the company’s licensing and merchandising activities in the UK. 

Rockpool Licensing will manage preschool properties, including Splash and Bubbles, Doozers, and Dot. Additionally, all past episodes of Dot. will stream exclusively on Hulu. Rockpool Licensing will also manage classic properties, including Fraggle Rock and Labyrinth.

Magic Light Pictures Makes Premiere at Brand Licensing Europe

Magic Light Pictures, owners of the Gruffalo’s licensing programme, is making premiere at Europe’s busiest licensing show. 
 
The impressive consumer products portfolio has grown strategically with long-term agent CAA-GBG over the last 8 years in the UK, as the company continues to expand through brand partnerships and a best in class licensing programme.

UYoung, Sixteen South Partner for New Preschool Project

China’s children’s entertainment company UYoung, and Belfast-based studio Sixteen South partnered to create new global children’s programs. The first series is currently in development and will portray love and friendship across different cultures and nations. Further details will be announced early next year.

In addition, UYoung acquired all rights in China for Sixteen South’s animated mixed-media series Lily’s Driftwood Bay. Season 2 was sold to iQiyi, Youku, and Tecent.

UYoung works with international co-production partners to create shows that work for both Western and Eastern markets.

Encyclopaedia Britannica Expands Licensing Program with Britannica Virtual Reality Exploration! 

Encyclopaedia Britannica launches the latest book set, Britannica Virtual Reality Exploration! The six-book set was developed in partnership with Encyclopaedia Britannica’s official licensed partner Publications International, and is sold exclusively at Costco.

The set features vetted information from Encyclopaedia Britannica and a virtual reality experience. The hardcover books have full-color illustrations and photographs, graphics, text, and videos. It also includes a six-month free subscription to Encyclopaedia Britannica Online.

The set includes a virtual reality viewer and instructions for downloading six different apps. Kids place a smartphone in the virtual reality viewer to access an interactive 3-D experience featuring animations, videos, games, and more.

Zoonicorn LLC signed an agreement with Future Today to air Zoonicorn videos On Demand on HappyKids.tv, an online kids’ entertainment and education brand that features music, stories, and activity guides. 
 
Zoonicorn launched three months ago and drove strong engagement from viewers, with 8 percent of views continuing to completion. Zoonicorn’s five music videos will now be available On Demand across multiple platforms, including Roku, Amazon Fire TV, Sony, Google TV, Kindle Fire, Nook, Windows 8, and Android phones and tablets.

Nudinuts Brings Barbara’s Cherries, Bernard’s Plums and Much More to Olympia

Nudinits is a stop-motion animation that’s hand-knitted, bare bottomed and utterly British. Having won a Best Comedy and Best Animation award in London and showcased at film festivals across the world, nudinits is now an online sensation. 

Nudinits are the inhabitants of a village called Woolly Bush - on the surface they are everything you would expect to find in a quintessential English village, but there’s something all the villagers are far too polite to mention – everyone’s in the in the nude and there’s a huge double entendre in the room! In the best tradition of Carry On films and saucy seaside postcards, nudinits have British innuendo comedy at its core. 
 
Creator Sarah Simi explained, “I wanted to make an animation which had all the nostalgia of Trumpton and Camberwick Green but with a very modern and rather rude edge. Everything you see is knitted and animated by hand, it might be labour intensive but the result is unique and utterly charming”. 
 
The characters have already inspired several products including a book, calendars and greeting cards but the company are looking to expand their range and take the animation series and product line on to a whole new level. 

Opportunities for Nadiya Hussain at BLE

Start Licensing client Nadiya Hussain published her latest book recently. The book, Bake Me A Festive Story, was published on 5th October and is the latest in a range of books that Nadiya has in the market. The book has also been chosen as one of the titles to feature in World Book Day in 2018 with a special edition £1 Bake Me A Story book that will feature in the March event.
 
Nadiya has just featured in her own BBC2 series and as a judge on the BIg Family Cooking Showdown also on BBC2.

Brand Monk Licensing to Bring Geronimo Stilton to India

Atlantyca Entertainment is expanding its global licensing initiatives with the appointment of Brank Monk Licensing (BML) as the exclusive India local licensing and merchandising agent for its popular Geronimo Stilton franchise. Under the terms of the agreement the licensing and brand development agency based in Mumbai, India will represent this property and all the spin off across all key branded product categories.

BML is planning a large merchandising program to initially include toys, apparel, collectables, board games which is set to launch in stores as early as November 2017.

Discovery Consumer Products, the global licensing arm of Discovery Communications featuring a retail footprint in over 50 countries, will be at Brand Licensing Europe 2017 to explore new licensing and brand extension opportunities. Catch Zippy, Bungle, and George at the Show

Rainbow, the classic nostalgia brand featuring the much loved characters of Bungle, George and Zippy, aired for 20 years on ITV and now celebrates its 45th anniversary in 2017.

The primary responsibilities of the role are to deal and manage existing clients, as well as identify, develop and negotiate with new licensees. Categories include stationery, cards, gift and table top.

The role will also include visiting and exhibiting at trade shows both nationally and internationally.

Some experience in licensing or image libraries is essential.

Spearhead category strategies, partner relations, and negotiations to maximize brand efficacy and build growth opportunities for licenses.  Play a key role in forecasting.  Solicit new brands, licenses and trends to secure the company’s high ranking in the business.
Provide sales updates and sell through information to the licensors on a monthly/weekly basis.  Mentor and manage coordinators, providing industry and business guidance.

I have 8 years experience of working for a large London Publishing house licensing book content to third parties. I am looking for a role which utilises my skills in negotiation and relationship building and can develop my experience within the licensing field. Having licensed book content to a wide variety of customers from national Newspapers to international Publishers I would relish the experience to work in a new industry, licensing new content to new clients.
 
I realise that a move across from traditional publishing may mean a step down from the managerial role I was in before. I'm enthusiastic to work in a new industry and feel my skills are easily transferable and am happy to look outside licensing roles also.
