ZAG America LLC announced the launch of its Miraculous Ladybug YouTube channel and webisode series. The channel and all its exclusive content revolves around the animated series Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug & Cat Noir, currently airing worldwide in more than 80 countries on Disney Channel and on Nickelodeon in the U.S.

ZAG will offer two formats: The first 10 webisodes will use 3-D animation imagery and the second wave of Miraculous webisodes will reveal a new fan-created 2-D animation.

Aardman’s Early Man Begins Production

Aardman and Studiocanal recently announced that Nick Park’s new prehistoric comedy adventure Early Man has officially begun production, with first character animation released to show more of the film’s hero Dug and his sidekick Hognob as cameras start rolling.
Set at the dawn of time, when prehistoric creatures and woolly mammoths roamed the earth, Early Man tells the story of how plucky caveman Dug, along with sidekick Hognob, unites his tribe against the mighty Bronze Age in a battle to beat them at their own game. It also marks Nick Park’s first feature film since Academy Award® winning Wallace and Gromit: The Curse of the Were Rabbit. Early Man unleashes an unforgettable cast of new characters. Eddie Redmayne has previously been announced as the voice of Dug, with further casting announcements expected in the coming weeks.
Early Man continues the production partnership with Aardman and Studiocanal following the success of Shaun the Sheep The Movie, written and directed by Richard Starzak and Mark Burton. Studiocanal is co-financing and will distribute in its own territories, the UK, France, Germany, Australia and New Zealand, selling worldwide.
The BFI (British Film Institute) is supporting the development and production of Early Man with National Lottery funding.

Petco Unveils Exclusive Trolls Pet Fans Collection

Petco unveiled a collection of pet toys and accessories inspired by the DreamWorks Animation film, Trolls. The line consists of products featuring characters from the film such as Poppy, Branch, Biggie, and Mr. Dinkles. The Trolls Pet Fans Collection for cats and dogs is now available exclusively at Petco and Unleashed by Petco stores nationwide and online at
Petco will also offer an in-store giveaway and grooming offer for pets and owners: the One-Day Trolls Craft Giveaway on Sat., November 12 includes Trolls finger puppets and more, plus 25 percent off of all Trolls Pet Fans Collection; and the Poppy and Branch Spa Package where Petco’s grooming salons will offer a $25 Poppy and Branch Spa Package featuring custom shampoo and conditioner, scented spritz, three additional spa upgrades, and a Trolls-inspired headband.

Paw Patrol in New Card Launches

Cartamundi has announced three new card game launches based on the popular children’s animated series PAW Patrol.
Now available are Snap and Happy Families card games featuring Ryder and his team of rescue pups. Available in January 2017 is a Game Box with character cards that glow in the dark. The game also contains a very helpful illustrated play area on the back of the gamerule, again featuring illustrations of the plucky pups and their leader.
Produced by global toy and entertainment company Spin Master, PAW Patrol features the adventures of a team working to protect the shoreside community of Adventure Bay. But it’s no ordinary team. Led by a young boy named Ryder, PAW Patrol is made up of rescue dogs in training, each inspired by a real-world job, who work together to keep Adventure Bay safe.
The show launched in the US in 2013 and has become a major global hit, inspiring a multi-million-dollar licensing campaign.

WIT Opens Nominations for Thirteenth Annual Wonder Women Awards

Women in Toys, Licensing & Entertainment (WIT) announced that nominations are now open for the thirteenth Annual Wonder Women Awards. WIT also announced new nominations guidelines, criteria, voting process, timelines, and elimination of the entry fee to nominate.

The new Gala theme for this year will be WIT Changemakers: Playing it Forward, and will honor female executives who create a positive impact by giving back, passing on the lessons they’ve learned, and paving the way for future leaders. Award winners will be announced at the annual Gala on Sunday, Feb. 19 in New York City during the New York International Toy Fair. Tickets are now available for purchase here.
WIT eliminated the entry fee for nominations and established an earlier timeline for finalists to be announced before the Gala. WIT will open voting to all its members, as well as board members, advisory board members, and industry influencers.  
The 2017 Wonder Women Award Categories include: Changemakers in Manufacturing; Changemakers in Marketing; Changemakers in Licensing; Changemakers in Entertainment; and Changemakers of Tomorrow (Rising Star).
Nominations must include an essay of up to 400 words describing the nominee’s achievements, up to five major accomplishments of the nominee in short bullet-list form, and optional supporting files and links to provide more background.
The new 2017 Wonder Women Awards nomination process timeline is as follows:

  • Oct. 3, 2016: Nominations Open
  • Nov. 1, 2016: Nominations Close
  • Nov. 21, 2016: Final Nominees Announced; Voting Begins
  • Dec. 19, 2016: Voting Closes

Silvergate Signs Rainbow Designs for Peter Rabbit

Silvergate Media, the international TV production and licensing company focused on pre-school children’s entertainment based in London and New York, has signed up Rainbow Designs as its plush and toy licensee for TV Peter Rabbit, its animated TV series for preschoolers.
Rainbow Designs are creating a new range of plush toys for boys and girls and will distribute across the UK and key EMEA territories in 2017. The new collection of toys will be launched at the London & Nuremburg Toy Fairs and Spring Fair in 2017.
TV Peter Rabbit was developed by Silvergate and Frederick Warne, a Penguin Random House company and the home of the Peter Rabbit brand as well as Potter’s publishers since 1902. Beatrix Potter’s classic character, Peter Rabbit, returned to the small screen in 2013, in a brand new 3D animation series for BBC (CBeebies) and Nickelodeon in the US. It has continued to be a key series for CBeebies, while also airing in the UK on Sky’s On-Demand platforms. The show is also sold in all key EMEA markets including France (FTV), Germany (Super RTL), Italy (RAI) and the Nordic territories.

Stephanie Sperber Forms New Licensing Firm White Space Entertainment

Stephanie Sperber, former president of partnerships and licensing at Universal Studios, formed a new licensing and representation firm, White Space Entertainment.

Sperber has built a network of global representatives and brand agents in many major countries. White Space's advisory services focus on franchise development, branding, alliances, marketing, and retail.

UK Signings for Oddbods

As One Animation’s animated kids’ comedy series Oddbods continues to gain momentum, the brand’s UK licensing agent ITV Studios Global Entertainment (ITVS GE) has announced its first signings for the UK licensing programme.

The sketch-based CG-animated comedy series follows the adventures of seven characters each with distinctive colours and personalities. Its non-dialogue and slapstick comedy has seen the show quickly rise to become a kids’ favourite.  Exclusive online mobile shorts have also received nearly half a billion worldwide views on platforms such as YouTube, and had an impressive 500% viewership growth between May and June 2016 alone.

In July, Oddbods’ UK master toy partner Golden Bear launched its highly anticipated range that spans collectible figures, plush, face changers and vehicles at major toy, specialist and select grocery retailers. Now to support the toy line, ITVS GE has signed a raft of licensing partnerships that will bolster the brand’s UK merchandise offering.

Kicking-off the publishing category is Bonnier that will develop an Oddbods activity and sticker book that will hit shelves in April 2017 with additional formats set to follow later in the year and into 2018. Cooneen and Misirli will build the apparel category with kids and adults nightwear, underwear and socks launching in Spring/Summer 17. Kids@Play will introduce outdoor playballs and hoppers in autumn/winter 2017, and Whitehouse Leisure’s line of plush exclusively for arcade machines will be available in Summer 2017. Rounding out the line-up is greeting card website Moonpig that recently launched its range of customisable Oddbods birthday cards.

“The strategic licensing programme that ITVS GE has been working on will see the introduction of a full range of very exciting consumer products over the course of the next few months which are very much in line with the show’s DNA,” comments Bettina Koeckler, One Animation’s EVP of Global Consumer Products and Licensing.

FremantleMedia Kids & Family, Shellhut Entertainment Partner for New Comedy Series

FremantleMedia Kids & Family (FMK) announced that the animated comedy series Tasty Tales of the Food Truckers will be the first project from its co-production deal with Shellhut Entertainment.
Targeting kids ages 6 to 9, the series follows the culinary adventures of a trio of animal friends—Sonny, Tong, and Andi—who travel the world in their food truck. FMK holds the distribution and licensing rights for the series in all territories, with the exception of Thailand. 
FMK will introduce the show at MIPJunior and at MIPCOM on stand C11.

Firefly Brand Management Launches Laura Marano Fragrance

Firefly Brand Management signed an exclusive agreement with Dosis Fragrance to create a branded signature perfume for actress and singer Laura Marano. The new fragrance line will launch this holiday season and will be sold at retailers across the U.S. 

In addition to three different scents, a specially designed holiday gift set will also be available.
Earlier this year, Firefly also announced a deal with Evy of California for the launch of the Laura Marano apparel line, which will be available next year.

Avalanche Expands with New Deals in Multiple Categories

Avalanche expands its licensing activity to include kids activewear, sportswear, and outerwear, as well as home goods, camping accessories, outdoor electronic accessories, pet accessories, and socks.
Pacific Trading will debut its line of children’s outerwear next year, which will feature lightweight insulated jackets, shells, and vests. The styles will be available from toddler to pre-teen sizes. Kidz Concepts will also launch its line of licensed activewear and sportswear for kids next year.
Argento SC offers a line of Avalanche pet, camping, and electronic accessories. The tech accessories line includes water-resistant Bluetooth speakers, earbuds, and power banks. The camping accessories include LED lanterns and headlamps, hammocks, and hydration packs. The pet accessories line features leashes, collars, harnesses, and toys. 
Home goods licensing partner Geneva Home Fashion designed blankets and sheet sets from baby to adult styles that will be available next year.  Planet Socks will continue to design and distribute socks for kids and adults

9 Story Media Group Announced International Sales for Animated Series Nature Cat

9 Story Media Group secured multiple international sales for the animated series Nature Cat, which targets children ages 3 to 8. New licenses include SVT in Sweden, TG4 in Ireland, SIC in Portugal, Canal Panda in Spain, Nick Jr. in Italy via Funwood Media, E Junior in the Middle East, and Hop TV in Israel.
The series premiered last year on PBS KIDS in the U.S. and this summer on Family CHRGD in Canada. 9 Story handles international distribution and consumer products outside of the U.S., while HiHat Media handles brand licensing within the U.S.

Foothill Entertainment Named Distributor and Executive Producer of Mother Goose Club

Sockeye Media appointed Foothill Entertainment as the distributor for the YouTube series Mother Goose Club.
Foothill Entertainment will present the series at MIPJunior and MIPCOM. New episodes are available for broadcast and multi-media platforms. Foothill Entertainment will also act as co-executive producers and co-develop with Sockeye Media a new CGI-animated version of Mother Goose Club series for the global marketplace.
Mother Goose Club brings classic nursery rhymes and original songs to life to help children learn language skills. The brand features live-action and animated videos, original songs, an app, coloring books, and online rhyme resources.

Monster Jam: Crush It! is expected to launch digitally and at select retailers on October 25 on the PlayStation4 computer entertainment system and Xbox One.

I have 8 years experience of working for a large London Publishing house licensing book content to third parties. I am looking for a role which utilises my skills in negotiation and relationship building and can develop my experience within the licensing field. Having licensed book content to a wide variety of customers from national Newspapers to international Publishers I would relish the experience to work in a new industry, licensing new content to new clients.
I realise that a move across from traditional publishing may mean a step down from the managerial role I was in before. I'm enthusiastic to work in a new industry and feel my skills are easily transferable and am happy to look outside licensing roles also.
