Toy State, Feld Entertainment Partner to Expand Monster Jam Portfolio

Toy State partnered with Feld Entertainment to expand the Monster Jam portfolio. The three-year, multi-territory agreement grants Toy State construction toy category rights for the development of Monster Jam-branded toys within the company’s Machine Maker product line.
 
As part of the expansion of the Machine Maker line, Toy State will incorporate Monster Jam trucks, including Grave Digger, Max-D, El Toro Loco, and Monster Mutt. The line currently features popular Caterpillar construction machines within the play sets and vehicles found at major retailers globally. The new toys will be available at retailers next spring.

The partnership follows Toy State’s recent announcement as master toy licensee for the new Netflix Original preschool series, True and the Rainbow Kingdom. The company also recently released a range of Nikko Air racing drones through its licensing partnership with Drone Racing League (DRL).

Laura Ashley Partners with MerchSource

Laura Ashley has entered into a licensing partnership with MerchSource.
 
MerchSource designs and develops all their product categories from their office headquarters in southern California. Each item developed has been researched by a team who understands the Laura Ashley customer.
 
Laura Ashley has selected this manufacturer for its innovative products and exceptional design expertise. “Laura Ashley is a brand consumers recognize and trust the world over. MerchSource has proven success within the home décor and giftables categories and understands what consumers expect from Laura Ashley,” said Penne Cairoli, President of Laura Ashley USA.
 
The partnership will focus on a line of Laura Ashley Gifts for Her that refreshes everyday items with a Laura Ashley twist. The initial product launch will include jewelry holders, trinket trays, flameless candles and other decorative items for home and personal use.

Jakks Pacific Signs Global Master Toy Agreement for Disney•Pixar's Incredibles 2

Jakks Pacific Inc. has entered into a multi-year, global master toy licensing deal with Disney Consumer Products for Disney•Pixar's Incredibles 2. The deal also includes master toy rights for the 2004 film The Incredibles.

Under the terms of the worldwide agreement, JAKKS will manufacture, market, and distribute action figures and accessories, including mini-figures and collectible figures, play sets, interactive toys, preschool toys, role-play and dress-up accessories, novelty toys, radio control toy vehicles, toy vehicles including die-cast and plastic, as well as associated play sets.

Incredibles 2 is the follow-up to the 2004 hit animated feature film The Incredibles, about the adventures of a family with superpowers. The original film was a blockbuster hit at the box office, grossing more than $600 million worldwide during its original theatrical run and winning two Academy Awards.

Saban Brands Debuts Luna Petunia Toy Range

Saban Brands launched the first Luna Petuna toy line in the UK. The line is based on the Netflix preschool series, Cirque du Soleil Junior–Luna Petunia, which is currently streaming the second season.
 
This month, products will begin to roll out in the UK. The line is currently available in Smyths toy stores and includes play sets, figures, plush, dolls, and role-play items. The toy range will also launch with Amazon, Debenhams, Toymaster, Ken Black Toys, and independent retailers next month.
 
Marketing initiatives will feature TV and in-theater advertising and promotional campaigns. Saban Brands also partnered with YouTube influencer Emily Tube for a series of videos that went live this month and featured products including the Luna Petunia Talking Doll, collectible figures, plush, Sparkle Gem Necklace, and the Fabulosa Café play set. Set in a world inspired by Cirque du Soleil, the series follows the adventures of Luna who—with help from her magic toy chest—enters the land of Amazia, where adventures, friendship, and learning awaits.

RHS and Warner Edwards in Licensing Agreement

The Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) has announced the award of a licence to Warner Edwards, a craft distiller and creator of award-winning, hand-made artisan gins. The deal, initially for three years, will see the RHS logo on bottles of Warner Edwards Honeybee Gin.
 
This licence deal is a strong addition to the strand of the RHS licensing programme that promotes UK craft businesses.
 
Having enjoyed a very successful trial launch with the Craft Gin Club, the RHS-endorsed Warner Edwards Honeybee Gin was launched exclusively on the 26th of September at Fortnum & Mason, Piccadilly in London. It has been chosen as ‘Spirit of the Month’ for October by the world-famous department store. The gin will also be available on Warner Edwards’ own e-commerce site (at www.warneredwards.com), which launches in October, and — again in October — through a number of high-end on-trade establishments. Every bottle will be sold with a packet of wildflower seeds to encourage the planting of bee-friendly gardens and spaces.
 
In addition, Warner Edwards has announced plans to work with the gardeners at RHS Garden Wisley in Surrey to install beehives within its relocated heather garden. RHS Garden Wisley is home to the National Plant Collection of heather, with over 800 species and cultivars in the collection. The new heather garden, which opens in May 2018, will have a new location, new landscaping and café facilities.

Moose Toys Renews More Than 50 License Agreements

Moose Toys is in the process of renewing more than 50 licensees for the Shopkins brand with terms extending through 2019. This is following the announcement of partnerships with globally recognized brands including Pez, Build-A-Bear Workshop, Skechers, and the launch of the Shopkins Live touring show.

Since launching in 2014, Shopkins has become a worldwide phenomenon. There are now more than 1,000 characters to collect, 70 webisodes to watch, and in 2016 alone, the brand recorded $1 billion in retail sales across consumer products.

Licensees from all key categories, including Publishing (Scholastic and Little Bee), Apparel (Bentex and Hybrid), Bicycles (Dynacraft), and Bedding (Jay Franco) are lining up to renew their partnership agreements.

Shopkins now has more than 220 licensees and 18 agents supporting the growth of the brand globally.

Xilam Announces New Agents for Oggy & the Cockroaches

Xilam has appointed two new licensing agents to represent its flagship global children’s brand Oggy & the Cockroaches across multiple key territories.
 
Brand Focus will lead the licensing programme in the UK, while 20tooLicensing will manage all licensing in the Middle East.

Tinkertoy Introduces My Little Pony Building Sets

K’NEX Brands introduces Tinkertoy building sets inspired by the animated series My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic, currently seen in 180 countries around the world.

The new products combine the Tinkertoy building system with the main characters from My Little Pony, both under license to K’NEX from Hasbro. The building sets launch this fall.

Zippo Partners with EON for 007 Collection

Zippo has partnered with EON Productions to unveil a specially-designed 007 collection of windproof lighters.
 
Inspired by one of the best-loved cinematic characters of all time, Zippo’s 007 first lighter collection features the classic James Bond gun barrel, the 007 logo as well as movie poster designs from Dr No and From Russia With Love.
 
Additionally, a wider Zippo collection dedicated to classic James Bond poster art is in development and slated to launch in time for Christmas 2017 in selected markets.
 
Zippo, maker of the world-famous windproof lighter, celebrates its 85th anniversary this year while the James Bond franchise prepares to release its 25th motion picture in 2019. 

Cra-Z-Art, Kodak Partner for Puzzle Collection

Cra-Z-Art entered a brand licensing agreement with Eastman Kodak Co. to produce and distribute puzzles in the U.S. The puzzles will feature photo imagery and will be available in different piece counts, including 100 pieces to 2,000 pieces. 

Last year, Cra-Z-Art entered the puzzle category with the acquisition of Lafayette Puzzle Factory. According to the NPD market research group, puzzles and games was one of the fastest growing categories last year, increasing by 18 percent.

Cra-Z-Art's Kodak puzzles will be manufactured in the U.S. and are expected to be available at major retailers this fall.

Love Is… Well-Versed in Licensing

The global expansion of Love Is… is cemented with the appointment of various agents all over the world and the launching of the official social media platforms earlier this year.
 
New licensing partners include Bioworld Europe who will be launching a new fashion line later this year, IconLogin who just released the Love Is.. lock screen app a number of weeks ago and Human Comedy who has published a book with a collection of illustrations in South Korea.

Other deals that are being signed in the next couple of weeks will bring a collaboration with a famous fashion brand, a partnership with a huge multi-national for food products and a promotion with an automotive company.

January, 2020 will see the celebration of the brands 50th anniversary. In honour of this milestone various activities, as well as a special style guide theme, will be developed.

eOne Expands Peppa Pig Licensing Partnership with New and Current Partners

Entertainment One (eOne) renewed and added additional Peppa Pig licensees for new product debuts at retail next year.
 
New Peppa Pig products from existing partners include a two-in-one kid-sized Flip-Open Sofa with removable and machine-washable slipcover from Spin Master; backpacks and lunch bags from Accessory Innovations; digital watches from Accutime; a bedding set from Baby Boom; new bedding and bath collections from Character World in Partnership with Franco Manufacturing Co. Inc.; and underwear for girls and toddlers from Handcraft.
 
Newly appointed licensees Berskshire Fashions and Hamco Inc. will introduce a cold weather set and toddler bibs and table toppers, respectively.
 
Additionally, Peppa Pig World will expand at Paultons Park theme park in Hampshire, UK. The park will feature two new rides—The Queen’s Flying Coach Ride and Grampy Rabbit’s Sailing Club—which will open to the public in May. In addition to the new rides, Paultons Park also created a baby care center specifically for the new space, and a new catering outlet, The Queen’s Kitchen.

EmojiOne Launches JoyPixels

EmojiOne, Inc. has announced debut of its JoyPixels brand, including over 2,500 custom emoticons, now available for consumer product licensing.  Building upon the company’s success in the digital world, EmojiOne has selected Art Ask Agency to lead its European licensing efforts including a wide range of consumer products.  Art Ask will be showing the JoyPixels collection at Brand Licensing Europe.

PlayMonster Adds Super Spinner Swing to Portfolio

PlayMonster LLC acquired the worldwide rights for outdoor children's swing Super Spinner.
 
The swing is an upgraded take on the tire swing, featuring a round seat, adjustable double-braided ropes, and weather-resistant clips. Made in the U.S., the Super Spinner holds multiple patents and is designed to swing and spin from a tree, a play set, or a secure structural beam. The swing comes fully assembled with the necessary hanging materials.
 
There are two Super Spinner versions currently available. The original Super Spinner can fit one or two kids, is engineered to hold up to 200 pounds, and is available in red, yellow, green, blue, purple, and pink. The Super Duper Spinner allows multiple riders with a weight capacity of 650 pounds, available only in hunter green.

Bioworld Signs for Hamsta World

Happy Ink and its UK agent, Allsorts Licensing, announce that Bioworld International have signed on for Hamsta World outerwear and nightwear for ladies and girls.

Fun2Play Toys Adds New Licensing Partners for Poo-nicorn Products

Fun2Play Toys will expand its Poo-nicorn portfolio with new licensing partners.

The product line will incorporate images of Poo-nicorns on daywear, sleepwear, and sporting goods. The consumer goods join a recently released app, Bloopy and Friends, and a new line of toys available at retail. 

Partners include Intimo Kids for sleepwear (U.S.); Happy Threads for daywear and T-shirts (U.S.); Esquire Footwear for footwear (U.S. and Canada); JCorp for daywear and T-shirts (Canada); Jammers for sleepwear (Canada) and pet wear and accessories (U.S. and Canada); and Stoneridge Cycle for sporting goods (Canada). 

Aykroyds and TDP Licensing Sign up to Bush Baby World

Aykroyds and TDP Licensing is the first licensee to sign up to the new Bush Baby World brand. The Bush Baby World animation series and toys launched in July this year, but within its first few weeks had already delivered over a million views online and in parallel, the innovative new toys from Golden Bear saw unprecedented sales, resulting in new orders and product having to be airlifted in to meet demand.
 
The new licensee will be launching nightwear, underwear and swimwear over the next 6 months.

The Fred Rogers Co., Mills Entertainment to Kickoff Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood Live! Tour Next Month

RCO Europe Acquires Screen Rights of The Red Harlequin

Ryan Carassi Omnimedia Europe (RCO EUROPE) have taken on the broadcast rights to The Red Harlequin, the YA fantasy book-based property created by Roberto Ricci. RCO will present the multi-platform IP to international broadcast and production market at Mipcom for the first time.
 
Founded in 2008 by multi-talented artist Ryan Carrassi, RCO EUROPE is part of The Happy Team Group (HTG), an omnimedia enterprise dedicated to theatrical, digital and broadcast distribution, home entertainment, and music publishing activities worldwide. RCO EUROPE is responsible for the sales, marketing and distribution of both Omnimedia and third-party content in Europe, to digital and television platforms, including online, mobile devices, and emerging technologies. Additionally, RCO manages the global licensing of its portfolio content.

Rocket to Extend Licensing Campaign for Horrible Histories

Independent licensing company Rocket Licensing has been appointed by Scholastic to manage UK licensing for Horrible Histories: the brand that has become the world’s bestselling children’s history-book series, an international hit TV show and a sell-out international stage show.
 
The deal was introduced by Maya Maraj, UK Licensing Scout for Scholastic, and brokered between Rob Wijeratna and Charlie Donaldson for Rocket and Elizabeth Scoggins, UK Licensing and Non-Fiction Publisher for Scholastic.
 
With the 25th anniversary of Horrible Histories taking place next year, Rocket is assessing numerous opportunities to extend the licensing portfolio of an iconic, enduring and uniquely British brand, presenting them to visitors to stand F5 at Europe’s biggest licensing event. Among categories being considered by Rocket and Scholastic are: apparel, games, puzzles, homewares and digital applications.

New Signings for The Happy News

A new addition to DRi Licensing’s portfolio, The Happy News brand began life as an inspiring quarterly newspaper, designed and illustrated by art school graduate Emily Coxhead, jam-packed with optimistic and uplifting stories from across the globe.  The Happy News takes the mood of this original publication, combining Emily’s uplifting, fun and quirky messages with her unique hand-drawn illustrations and striking contemporary colour palette.
 
The Happy News is already published in greetings cards by Pigment Productions and is a Henries finalist this year for Best Contemporary Words or Sentiments range.  Pigment’s extensive greeting card range which is enjoying success at retail features more than 100 designs covering everyday plus all the main relations and occasions. 
 
First to join The Happy News licensing line-up is Widdop, who will launch a super-cool and colourful gift range including mugs, photo frames, candles, jewellery and bags all featuring Emily’s fresh and distinctive style.  Stationery from Blueprint Collections and dated lines from Portico will follow. Moonpig have also partnered with The Happy News and Penguin Random House will publish a creative journal ‘Make Someone Happy’ which will hit stores in the spring.

Fast & Furious Announces First Ever Global Arena Tour Dates

Universal Brand Development, Fast Live Productions and tour producers Live Nation Entertainment have announced that Fast & Furious Live will premiere in London at the world famous O2 Arena on 19 January 2018 before heading across Europe as part of the first leg of the global arena tour.

KV&H Turnowsky Licensed Puzzles Hit the High Street

The House of Turnowsky, has seen its beautiful artwork appear on jigsaw puzzles for the first time via an exclusive deal with puzzle manufacturer, KV&H Verlag GmbH.
 
The beautiful 1000-piece puzzle designs are now being distributed in department stores, gift and top shops all over Europe and will make perfect Christmas presents for family members, friends or other loved ones.
 
The puzzles were created under the KV&H brand, Heye, as part of a licensing deal brokered by the House of Turnowsky’s licensing agent, Art Ask Agency. 

Merchantwise Dances with Peter Alexander  

Merchantwise has partnered with Australian brand, Peter Alexander to release a range of Dirty Dancing themed sleepwear pieces.  
 
Coinciding with the 30th anniversary of the romantic drama dance film, the sleepwear capsule collection is part of Peter Alexander’s 5 Star Movies range and also includes all-time favourites Harry Potter, The Wizard of Oz and E.T.  
 
The specially designed Dirty Dancing range for women includes sleep tees, pyjama pant, mid-shorts as well as a sleeveless tank.  It also has babies covered with a ‘Nobody Puts Baby In a Corner’ romper suit.  

Moomin and Oxfam in Partnership

A range of Moomin products using artwork from The Invisible Child will be sold to raise money for Oxfam, including a tote bag, tea towel and handkerchief. Macmillan Children’s Books will donate £1 from sales of its Pocket Moomin Colouring Book and Finnish brands Fiskars and Finlayson will contribute a proportion of sales of their Moomin products too.
 
The fundraising is to support Oxfam’s work fighting extreme poverty and suffering around the world. Since the majority of people living in poverty are women, the rights of women and girls are at the heart of the charity’s work. Long-held prejudices often mean that they are denied basic rights like education, a fair wage or decent working conditions. Women and girls are also often the worst affected when emergencies strike. But Oxfam knows that the skills, determination and ingenuity of women will win through, and by supporting them poverty can be overcome.

Poetic Brands Bags Rick And Morty for New Apparel Range

Licensed clothing specialist Poetic Brands has announced details of a new agreement that will see the company produce a range featuring the stars of hit cartoon Rick and Morty.
 
Rick and Morty is the animated sci-fi comedy for grown-ups that revolves around an inebriated but brilliant scientist, Rick, and his naïve young grandson, Morty, who live together with their family in suburban America. Together they travel on a series of twisted and bizarre adventures through different dimensions and alien worlds.
Rick and Morty is available through Netflix in the UK, with three seasons available to stream, and the show has become a huge cult classic. Poetic Brands has signed a deal with licensor Cartoon Network to produce a range of adult underwear and nightwear based on the show.
 
“Rick and Morty has a big following so we are extremely confident about the prospects for this new range,” says Elliott Matthews of Poetic Brands. “It is very much a cult brand with an extremely loyal and devoted following, so I’m in no doubt these products will strike a chord with fans.”
 

Vivid Signs Worldwide Deal with YouTube sensation Tiana and Her Channel Toys AndMe

Vivid have signed a worldwide deal with the 9 year old YouTube sensation Tiana and her channel Toys AndMe.  This UK star has amassed 6.3m subscribers and generated over 4.2 billion views in just over 2 years ranking 5th on YouTube in the UK.  She also has a huge following in the US and Australia and a growing fan base in many other countries.  Tiana has become a celebrity in her own right and many meet and greets attract a few thousand fans a time.

GENERAL SUMMARY: Creates strategic direction for active licensee base and negotiates new partnerships within assigned categories to achieve growth objectives.   Directs tactical execution of licensed product lines from concept/line plan through commercialization.  

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manage existing licensees in assigned categories: 
    • Evaluate licensee’s quarterly marketing, retail and financial forecasts to ensure licensees on are track to meet established contractual obligations, royalty payments and forecast goals.
    • Organize and run licensee orientations, business reviews, semiannual/quarterly line reviews, and brain storm sessions.
    • Address specific licensee performance issues
    • Negotiate renewals on a timely basis
    • Provides input for annual departmental budget and plan
  • Ensure licensees develop seasonal lines in time for internal seasonal review and develop documents and presentations to communicate licensee’s initiatives to internal Crayola departments
    • Set trend direction and make recommendations for new product entry
    • Direct category research and product concept testing as needed with the consumer insights team
    • Work with creative and product development on design and creative direction for licensed product and packaging
    • Responsible for managing licensee press releases, cross marketing and promotions
    • Ensure adherence to internal approval process (i.e. safety, quality, financial, legal, content, creative, consumer activation, consumer affairs etc.) and assist in resolving issues.
  • Negotiate new licensed strategic partnerships for assigned segments in conjunction with established category strategies
    • Research, secure and develop new licensees building upon the success of existing segments in order to achieve predictable, profitable and sustainable growth
    • Negotiate deal terms including: grant of rights, royalty rates, guarantees, projections and business plans
REQUIREMENTS:

I am looking for a role which utilises my skills in negotiation and relationship building and can develop my experience within the licensing field. Having licensed book content to a wide variety of customers from national Newspapers to international Publishers I would relish the experience to work in a new industry, licensing new content to new clients.
 
I realise that a move across from traditional publishing may mean a step down from the managerial role I was in before. I'm enthusiastic to work in a new industry and feel my skills are easily transferable and am happy to look outside licensing roles also.
