Halloween & Party Expo Moves to New Orleans in 2015

Universal Pictures and Illumination Entertainment have announced that the 3-D film Minions will be released in July 2015, instead of its intended release date in December of next year.
 
In addition, the release date for an untitled Illumination Entertainment project in 3-D will move from July 2015 to February 2016. Illumination Entertainment’s fifth motion picture in its global partnership with Universal Pictures is a spin-off from the Despicable Me franchise.
 
The delay is believed to be due to the crowded holiday movie market next year, and the studios hope that the summer release will follow the success of Despicable Me 2, which also had a summer launch.

LIMA Seeks Nominations for 
Licensing Hall of Fame Award


LIMA is accepting nominations for its annual Licensing Industry Hall of Fame Award. The award is open to creators, marketers, manufacturers, and others who have made contributions to the licensing industry in the U.S. and worldwide. The submission deadline is November 8. Nominees for the LIMA Licensing Hall of Fame Award must be actively involved in the licensing business for a minimum of 15 years.
 
Additional requirements for consideration include a detailed description of their body of work; contribution to the industry, such as the creation, development, or advancement of a specific aspect or segment of the business; legacy and ongoing relevance to the industry; and integrity, business ethics, and principles consistent with the professionalism and credibility of the licensing industry. Only recommendations submitted online at the LIMA website will be considered. The annual Hall of Fame induction will take place during LIMA’s Opening Night Awards Ceremony at Licensing International Expo 2014 in Las Vegas. Visit www.licensing.org for more information.


Hasbro Introduces Toys Based on Angry Birds Go!

Hasbro Inc. has introduced the Angry Birds Go! Telepods and Jenga product lines, launching in support of Rovio Entertainment’s Angry Birds Go! mobile game. The Telepods platform allows players to teleport their physical Angry Birds Go! karts into the digital game using their mobile devices.
 
Hasbro’s Angry Birds Go! Jenga gaming line offers face-to-face play based on the mobile game. Kids can take on the pigs with kart racing, bird launching, and Jenga block toppling. Both product lines are available at major retail locations beginning on October 1, with the mobile game release to follow.


Marvel Entertainment Adds Jay Franco to Develop Home Goods Collection

 In anticipation of Marvel’s upcoming major film franchise, Guardians of the Galaxy, Marvel Entertainment LLC has collaborated with home décor company Jay Franco to develop a line of bedding, pillows, bath accessories, and beach products set to launch this summer. Jay Franco joins a list of existing licensees to create products based on the film, including Hasbro, Disguise, C-Life, Mad Engine, and Sideshow Collectibles.

Big Tent Entertainment Signs Partner for Domo Watches

DollhouseBig Tent Entertainment has signed a deal with Accutime Watch Corp. for a line of watches and clocks featuring Domo. Designs will include watches for men, women, and juniors. The products will be available in the U.S. and Canada next year.


Weeks Roses to Produce Hybrid Inspired by Downtown Abbey

DollhouseWeeks Roses, a wholesale rose grower in California, will breed new hybrid rose varieties inspired by the British TV series Downtown Abbey. The roses will be sold to nurseries, garden centers, and wholesale traders that cater to independent retailers around the world. Knockout Licensing secured the deal.


Gund Signs with Parham Santana to Develop Licensing Program

Parham Santana has signed an agreement with Gund under its licensing division, BrandSlam. Parham Santana will assist Gund in developing a licensing strategy for brand extensions, which will allow consumers to engage with Gund across new product categories. Licensed products will be designed for sale at better stores where Gund products are currently available.


Poeticgem Strengthens Sales Force

Licensed apparel specialist Poeticgem has expanded its brand portfolio and product lines. A range of new licenses feature brands such as Star Wars, Annoying Orange, Cut the Rope, Life, The FA, and Family Guy, while existing licenses include Sainsbury’s, Urban Outfitters, George, Tesco, Primark, Next, River Island, Matalan, and M&S.
Poeticgem has recently launched T-shirt lines for Star Wars, Life, and Angry Birds, as well as nightwear for Bovril, Plain Lazy, and Pac-Man.


Zuru to Release Creepeez Wall Crawlers Toy Line with Marvel Super Heroes

DollhouseToy manufacturer Zuru will create Creepeez wall crawlers featuring Marvel’s characters from both Spider-Man and The Avengers. The official Marvel Creepeez will be available this month at Toys “R” Us and Dollar General stores nationwide.

The line will feature fan favorites, including The Hulk, Iron Man, and Captain America, all with creepy sticky feet and the ability to tumble down walks while performing stunts or racing against each other.


Bananas in Pyjamas Available on Kidobi

Online video platform Kidobi has announced that the TV show Bananas in Pyjamas will be added to Kidobi’s library of preschool videos available in the U.S. Kids ages 2 to 6 can stream the 3-D animated series featuring the pajama-clad duo online at www.kidobi.com and through Kidobi’s mobile apps. Endemol Worldwide Distribution licensed the series.

K’NEX Brands Grants Learning Resources Limited K’NEX Education Distribution Rights In China and Hong Kong

K’NEX Brands has signed an agreement with Learning Resources Ltd. of Hong Kong to distribute its K’NEX Education line and select retail products in the People’s Republic of China and Hong Kong. 


 
Learning Resources Ltd. has been named the authorized reseller of K’NEX Education products in the PRC. Learning Resources also has the non-exclusive rights to sell K’NEX retail sets including the 6 Foot Ferris Wheel, 6 Foot Double Ferris Wheel, Grandfather Clock, and the Son of Serpent Coaster. The agreement between K’NEX and Learning Resources runs through next year. 


Repco Asia Partners with Aardman Animations for Shaun the Sheep Arts and Crafts Toys

Repco Asia is set to develop a full range of Shaun the Sheep-licensed arts and craft products to be presented to worldwide buyers in Hong Kong this year. Shaun the Sheep is a family comedy enjoyed by parents and children across 170 territories with new episodes to come next year. The first wave of branded products will be available in October.

Trump, Dorya International Partner for Trump Home by Dorya Furniture

The Trump Organization and Dorya International have partnered to produce luxury furniture under the Trump Home brand for distribution initially in Turkey and to expand into international markets. Inspired by entrepreneur Donald J. Trump, the Trump Home by Dorya collection is designed to offer the consumer exquisite handcrafted furnishings with custom quality. The 50-piece contemporary collection will debut in February in Istanbul, Turkey at a gala event. In April, it will premiere in the U.S. during the International Home Furnishings Market at High Point.

Playboy Joins Brand Licensing Europe

On the year of its 60th anniversary, Playboy will join Brand Licensing Europe 2013. Founded by Hugh M. Hefner in 1953, and based in Beverly Hills, Playboy Enterprises publishes Playboy Magazine in the U.S. and abroad, and creates content for distribution via TV networks, websites, mobile platforms, and radio. Through licensing agreements, the Playboy brand appears on a range of consumer products in more than 150 countries, as well as retail stores and entertainment venues.

Darren Brechin, BLE event director, said: “We are delighted that Playboy will be joining BLE on its 60th anniversary. Playboy's success as a globally licensed brand as well as its opportunity to reach new markets and product categories through innovative partners make it a great addition to our already impressive list of exhibitors."


Character Options Reveals Plants vs. Zombies Range

DollhouseRecently named as the exclusive UK distributor for the Plants vs. Zombies toy line, Character Options has unveiled the spring toy collection for the game. The new collection will be available in January and will include a series of Mystery Fun-Dead figures and an exploding Zombie action figure.

Zodiak Kids Announces New Licensing Hire

@iquoteforherZodiak Kids has appointed Henrietta Garnett to the role of senior licensing manager, Zodiak Kids, London. Garnett has recently held senior executive positions at Creacon Entertainment and Palamon International. Prior to that, she was the sales and licensing director for Cesar UK for seven years.
 
In her new role, Garnett will be responsible for building the licensee base in the UK and EMEA as well as maximizing exposure for Zodiak brands at retail. She will play a key role in delivering revenue for the Zodiak Rights property portfolio, which includes Tickety Toc, Mister Maker, Waybuloo, and Little Princess brands. Garnett reports directly to Alastair McHarrie, vice president of licensing.


Rainbow to Debut New Property at Mip Junior

DollhouseRainbow is heading to Cannes 2013 with a new kids show called Royal Academy. Royal Academy is a take on some of the best-known fairy tales and focuses on the adventures of Rose Cinderella, the newest student at Royal Academy. She is also the granddaughter of one of the school’s founding families, as are her new classmates Hawk Snowwhite, Travis Beast, Pearl Rapunzel, and Violet LeFrog. The new comedy series targets kids ages 5 to 10 and features 26 half-hour episodes.
 
“To say we are excited about Royal Academy is an understatement, as this new series is going to be phenomenal!” says Iginio Straffi, Chairman and CEO of Rainbow Group. “This is the product of many years work by the Rainbow team and everything about it – animation, script, voice acting and music – is absolutely top notch, so everybody is going to be blown away.”


Outfit7 Hires Intellectual Property Rights Enforcement Firm

Outfit7, creator of the Talking Tom and Talking Friends franchise, has appointed Baker & McKenzie to act as its Intellectual Property (IP) rights enforcement firm. Baker & McKenzie will protect the IP of Outfit7’s Talking Friends franchise as the Cyprus-based entertainment company expands globally and plans to introduce more innovative apps and merchandise.
 
“Our global strategy is to provide Talking Friends fans with a succession of innovative, original, multi-media products and merchandise, so it is important that they only receive the genuine article produced by our official licensees and partners and that we prevent the counterfeit products confusing the market,” said Samo Login, Outfit7’s founder and CEO.


Atlantyca in Publishing Announcements

Atlantyca Entertainment’s intellectual property agency has announced the sale of two of its publishing properties.
 
AT-Anim has optioned the TV and film production rights along with licensing rights of two book series, Klinkus Bark and Cryptoanimals, in cooperation with Tinkertree, Dog House, and Ulysses Production. The announcement was made by Lucia Geraldine Scott, IP agency sales manager, Atlantyca Entertainment. AT-Anim has set Cartoon Forum to introduce Klincus Bark’s development plan, presenting a first peak at a bible along with character and background art.
 
The company, AT-Anim, seeks to produce an animated series of Klinkus Bark.
 “We have always recognized that many of the publishing properties in our catalogue have enormous development potential for audio-visual content as well as for many other platforms,” says Lucia Geraldine Scott, sales manager, Atlantyca IP Agency. “AT-Anim specializes in the production and coproduction of unique animated series for television and film, such as Luke and Lucy, and The Texas Rangers and The Aventureves. We are delighted they, like us, realize the possibilities that these two brands have and look forward to supporting their team as they develop them into entertaining broadcast programs.”


V&S Renews Licensee Deals

DollhouseV&S Entertainment has renewed deals with a number of its licensees for apparel and accessories for Everything’s Rosie. Following the success of their initial contracts, Blues Clothing, TDP Textiles, and Aykroyd & Sons Ltd. will continue to produce ranges of apparel which will be available to UK retailers.

AUSTRALIA

ABC Acquires Mister Maker and Waybuloo

ABC TV, Australia’s public broadcaster, has acquired 30 hours of programming from Zodiak Kids’ children’s catalogue, including Mister Maker and Waybuloo.
 
Zodiak recently announced that its wholly owned studio, The Foundation, is in production with Mister Maker Around the World after CBeebies ordered 26 x 20 minutes of the new show for transmission this fall. The program has now been acquired by ABC TV alongside the relicense of the first series of Mister Maker (20 x 20).
 
Mister Maker DVDs have been performing strongly in the Australian market and ABC DVD has accrued more than 130,000 unit sales since the first title launched in 2010.
 
In addition, New Zealand’s TVNZ has picked up the first three series (20 X 20) of Mister Maker for their preschool channel Kidzone24. The first episodes are due to broadcast late this year.As part of the agreement, ABC has also picked up the third series (50 X 19) of Zodiak’s Waybuloo.
