Hasbro and Disney Enter Strategic Merchandising Relationship for Disney Princess and Frozen

Disney PrincessesHasbro Inc. has entered a new strategic merchandising relationship with Disney Consumer Products for the Disney Princess and Frozen properties. The agreement gives Hasbro global rights, excluding Japan, to develop dolls based on Disney Princess stories and characters including Cinderella, Beauty and The Beast, The Little Mermaid, and Frozen beginning in 2016.
“We are delighted to have been selected by Disney Consumer Products to develop dolls for the Disney Princess and Frozen franchises," said Hasbro President and CEO Brian Goldner. “Our strategic thought leadership and innovation has led to the steady growth of our girls business over the past several years, demonstrating that we have a true understanding of girls globally and how today's girls want to play.
“The entire Hasbro team is looking forward to providing consumers with inventive new play experiences based on the beloved Disney Princess and Frozen characters and stories.”
The collaboration between Disney Consumer Products and Hasbro on the Disney Princess and Frozen franchises expands a partnership that already includes Star Wars and Marvel properties.
“Hasbro's focus on quality, innovation, and market-leading products designed for today's consumer, makes them the best choice to grow one of the world's most popular girls brands,” says Bob Chapek, president, Disney Consumer Products.
 

CBS Consumer Products to Represent MacGyver

MacGyverCBS Consumer Products will represent the merchandising rights for the TV series MacGyver on behalf of series creator Lee David Zlotoff. Next year will mark the 30th anniversary of the Emmy-nominated series, which debuted in 1985. The series spanned 137 episodes and ran on ABC for seven seasons. It currently streams on Netflix, Amazon, Hulu, and cbs.com.
 
MacGyver will be included in CBS Consumer Products’ Television City portfolio, joining the ranks of more than 150 iconic TV series, including The Andy Griffith Show, Beverly Hills 90210, The Twilight Zone, The Brady Bunch, and Cheers.

Commonwealth Toy and Novelty Co. Sign on for Yummy World

Kidrobot has signed Commonwealth Toy and Novelty Co. as a new toy licensee for its specialty brand Yummy World. Commonwealth will create a line of products with a broad distribution that will focus on Sprinkle Tree, a sweet and savory city nestled in the Mocha Mountain Valley, which all Yummy World friends call home.
 
JLK Brand brokered the deal between Kidrobot and Commonwealth and will continue to add licensing partners for the Yummy World brand in games, apparel, accessories, home furnishings, and more.

Saban Brands Holds “Show Us Your Shorts” Contest

Saban Brands Show Us Your Shorts ContestSaban Brands is holding its first “Show Us Your Shorts” contest and is accepting submissions for original animated shorts until October 24 at sabanshorts.com.

Saban Brands’ executive committee will judge all of the shorts upon submission. The top 10 selections will be displayed for a public vote for two weeks. Once the top 10 are chosen, the public can also begin campaigning for their favorite short via social media using #sabanshorts. The winner will receive $5,000 and a development deal with Saban Brands.

Genius Brands Appoints Global Audio Digital Distribution Partner, INgrooves

INgroovesGenius Brands International Inc. has appointed INgrooves Music Group as its global audio digital distribution partner. 

In addition to managing worldwide distribution for the GBI catalog, INgrooves will provide various global sales and marketing and strategic services, including digital music service promotion, project management, release strategy guidance, and more.

Working in collaboration with INgrooves, GBI is positioning the company as a key player in the global children’s entertainment media market. In addition to its Baby Genius product line, GBI will also work with INgrooves on the worldwide audio distribution of its children’s brand portfolio, which includes entertainment content from the Stan Lee’s Mighty 7 (SLAM7) franchise; the animated TV series Warren Buffett’s Secret Millionaires Club, which airs in the U.S. on The Hub network; and the series Thomas Edison’s Secret Lab.

Opry Entertainment Group to Create Merchandise for Nashville TV Show

Opry EntertainmentNashville-based Opry Entertainment Group will create official merchandise for the TV show, Nashville, an American drama series co-produced by ABC Studios and Lionsgate Television Group. Knockout Licensing brokered the deal.
 
Opry Entertainment will produce a broad range of T-shirts, accessories, gift items, and other products based on the TV series. Items will be sold at Opry Entertainment retail locations throughout the country music capital, including at the Grand Ole Opry.

BBC Home Entertainment to Introduce Two New DVD/Blu-ray Collections

BBC HomeBBC Home Entertainment will release two collectors’ edition box sets–Merlin: The Complete Series and Doctor Who: The Complete Matt Smith Years–on November 4.
 
The Merlin TV series, a retelling of the fabled Arthurian legend of Camelot, will be available for the first time as one complete set on DVD and Blu-ray. The collection also includes bonus footage and a set of collectible magnets.
 
Doctor Who: The Complete Matt Smith Years gift set will include the complete adventures of the Eleventh Doctor, portrayed by Matt Smith.
 
The Blu-ray collection also includes Doctor Who Proms 2013, The Day of the Doctor: From Script to Screen, The Five Doctors Reboot, Doctor Who: The Ultimate Guide, and the two part special Sarah Janes Adventures: The Death of the Doctor
 
Both Blu-ray collections include 16 discs, and the Merlin DVD collection includes 24 discs.

Four New Partnerships for Gas Monkey Garage

Gas Monkey GarageGas Monkey Garage has entered into partnerships with four new companies to expand its line of apparel and accessories. New York-based licensing agency, Brandgenuity, brokered the deals.
 
The new licensees, Westchester, Waterloo, Gatco, and MjC, will create products in a variety of categories including apparel, auto accessories, utility knives, and welding accessories.
 
Gas Monkey Garage is best known for its Discovery channel TV show, Fast ‘N Loud.

Harman International Becomes NBA’s Headphone, Speaker, and Audio Partner

HarmanHarman International has entered a marketing and merchandising partnership with the National Basketball Association (NBA) as the official headphone, speaker, and audio partner of the NBA, Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA), NBA Development League (NBA D-League), and USA Basketball.
 
The partnership is the NBA’s first-ever marketing partner in these categories and Harman’s first partnership with a professional sports league.
 
The new partnership will focus on Harman’s JBL brand, with products featured at NBA events worldwide and integrated into league operations.  HARMAN will provide JBL and other Harman products to players and coaches.
 
Harman will also produce NBA-branded audio products, including team- and player-branded headphones and portable speakers.

The Big Bopper Now Represented by C3 Entertainment Inc.

C3 Entertainment Inc. will represent rock ‘n’ roll legend the Big Bopper for aspects of licensing and merchandising. The license is with Patty Richardson, representing the Big Bopper estate.
 
The Big Bopper, real name Jiles Perry “J. P.” Richardson, Jr., was one of the pioneers of rock 'n’ roll. His signature song, “Chantilly Lace,” was one the earliest hits in rock 'n’ roll history.
 
The Big Bopper, along with musicians Buddy Holly and Ritchie Valens, died in a plane crash on February 3, 1959—a day often referred to as “the day the music died.”

Kellogg’s Releases New Home Goods Products

Kellog'sKellogg’s has partnered with Dophes, a home textiles manufacturer, and Innovative Housewares company, Evriholder, to launch two new programs. The Joester Loria Group brokered the deals.
 
Dophes has created a line of Kellogg’s-inspired home textiles and kitchen accessories for the brand, which will be available next spring at mass and mid-tier retailers.
 
The All-Bran Microwave Muffin Maker is currently available at Wal-Mart locations. Evriholder has developed the product to allow consumers to make Kellogg’s recipe for All-Bran Muffins in minutes.

Product Lines for Boo–The World’s Cutest Dog Continue to Grow

BooDelfino Co. Ltd. and Takarajima Sha Inc. have entered into licensing agreements with social media star, Boo–The World’s Cutest Dog. The deal was brokered by Tact Communications as Knockout Licensing’s appointed sub-agent for Boo in Japan.

The new agreement will create lines of Boo-themed gifts, jewelry, accessories, and a photography book for the Japanese market.

Stationery Team Europe was also granted rights to produce a line of Boo stationery products.

Ford Motor Co. Goes Global, Celebrates with Art by Burton Morris

FordFord Motor Co. will collaborate with Burton Morris Studios on a series of original Mustang pony sculptures to celebrate their new global move.

Pop artist Burton Morris is best known for his depictions of various modern icons. His work on the program will include hand-painted depictions of 10 chosen country flags on the sculptures: the U.S., Australia, Brazil, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, United Arab Emirates, and the UK in his signature style.

The collection will also include limited-edition, paper, and aluminum prints, and posters, available online globally at mustangunites.com.

Mustang will be available globally for the first time in its 50-year history, with the addition of a right-hand-drive model.

EUROPE

Bulldog Books the London Taxi Co.

Bulldog BooksBulldog Licensing will represent The London Taxi Co. worldwide.
 
The London Taxi Co. is the only manufacturer and retailer of the iconic Black Cab, recognized worldwide as the hackney carriage vehicle of choice for use in London and around the world. The current model being produced, the TX4, is the latest Black Cab to roll off the company’s production line in Coventry.
 
Bulldog seeks initial opportunities in the toys, games, video games, and accessories sectors, and will engage with partners in apparel and homewares further down the line. The London Taxi Company previously granted licences to Disney•Pixar for inclusion of their intellectual property in the Cars franchise; Paul Smith for fashion lines; and others.

Brands with Influence Announces Two Partners for the RNLI
 

Having been appointed in spring this year, Brands with Influence has announced two new licensing deals for the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI). MBI are to produce a range of gifts and collectibles based on the brand and Carousel Calendars will publish a 2015 calendar.
 
Both deals are part of the new push to create innovative new products based on the Charity’s extensive brand equity. The RNLI has strong public affection and awareness and BWI are enabling the charity to deliver the best products possible to its wide audience of supporters. These two licensing deals are the first to be signed and will be bringing products out within 6 months.

Historic Royal Palaces to Debut Briers Range at BLE
 

At the Brand Licensing Show Europe 2014, Historic Royal Palaces, the independent charity that cares for the Tower of London, Hampton Court Palace, Banqueting House, Kensington Palace, Kew Palace and Hillsborough Castle, will be showcasing its recent award winning licensed range from Briers, the gardening product specialist.
 
The Briers collection in association with Historic Royal Palaces won ‘The GLEE Award 2014’ and the ‘Home, Gift & Clothing’ award at Glee 2014 earlier this week.
The collection incorporates three designs - Royal Crown, Tudor Rose and Baroque – each inspired by the palace collections, interiors and gardens.

Cartamundi’s Shuffle Launches in Italy
 

CartamundisCartamundi has announced the launch of its groundbreaking new product, Shuffle, in the Italian market.
 
Six titles from the new Shuffle range of card games with optional interactive apps are spearheading the launch. They are Monopoly, Transformers, Play-Doh, My Little Pony, Guess Who? and Boggle.
 
Already launched in France and Germany, with launches imminent in the UK and the rest of Europe, as well as Australia and New Zealand, Shuffle is a brand new product category, which combines playing cards and digital technology for an enhanced way to play popular card games with support from tablets and smartphones. The launch took place at the end of August and brings the six games to toy and games stores across Italy. Shuffle is supported and boosted by a partnership between Cartamundi and Hasbro.

Lawless Entertainment Appoints Mondo TV for Little Suzy’s Zoo
 

Lawless Entertainment has appointed Mondo TV S.p.A. as worldwide distributor (except North America) for the Little Suzy’s Zoo animated series.
 
Mondo TV will conclude broadcast/cable/satellite/home video/DVD commitments for the animated series, which features the characters of Little Suzy’s Zoo and consists of 26x2 minute episodes.
  
“It amazes me to see my characters come to life and run around in the big back yard,” says Suzy’s Zoo creator, Suzy Spafford.  “I hope people everywhere will catch on to Witzy’s sunny spirit and whimsical playfulness.”

Oxford Signs Home Décor Licensee
 

Oxford UniversityTo complement Oxford’s heritage inspired furniture range selling in showrooms around the world, the University of Oxford licensing programme has signed a new Home Décor licensee.  The deal was brokered by Oxford’s licensing agent for UK and Europe, Performance Brands.
 
For wall coverings, Oxford has partnered with UK-based company, Smith & Fellows. The five year multi-territory deal will see collections of Oxford pattern, sourced and derived from a number of University archives and libraries, marketed across a territories including UAE and China.
This autumn, new product introductions to Oxford’s furniture range by Timothy Oulton will include an iconic test tube chandelier, butterfly specimen table inspired by the entomological displays in the University’s Museum of Natural History, and a modern chair in brushed steel and colourful leather.  Table lamps and floor lamps available in boating stripe or tartan will also feature in the new Oxford catalogue.

Finalists announced for BLE’s License This! Competition 2014

Brand Licensing Europe 2014 has announced the four finalists of its License This! Competition. Now in its fifth year, the challenge offers those with brand new creative concepts the opportunity to break into the global licensing industry and the final takes place at the show in front of an audience on Thursday 9 October.
 
The finalists are:

  • Alisa Black Artwork presented by Alisa Black
  • Chef and Sue presented by Ann Edwards
  • Give a Hoot created by Rowena Blyth
  • RaNT! created by Adam Bestwick at Fourth Wall Brands

Judging panel chair Ian Downes, Director of Start Licensing, said: “It was a really enjoyable challenge judging License This! The diversity of entries was a good reflection of the breadth of opportunities that exist in licensing and of the creativity in the industry. The short listed four are strong contenders and were the best of a very good collection of entries. It wasn't easy to narrow the field. Well done to all those that entered.  I look forward to the finale at BLE.”

Downton Abbey at Home to Preview at BLE
 

NBCUniversal International Television Production, the owner of award-winning drama, Downton Abbey has partnered with mail order specialist, S&R Premium Brands to create Downton Abbey at Home, a home wares catalogue and e-commerce website featuring items inspired by the popular ITV series.
 
A photo call will be hosted on stand C090 at Brand Licensing Europe on October 7th at 2pm. Dominic Burns, Senior Vice President, Brand Management and Commercial at NBCUniversal and Ken Mannering, Managing Director at S&R Premium Brands will be available for interview.

Warner Bros. Consumer Products EMEA Announces Golden Bunny Awards 2014
 

Warner Bros. Consumer Products EMEA has announced the Warner Bros. Consumer Products EMEA Golden Bunny Awards. The awards, which were launched last year, celebrate and recognise the heroes of the WBCP EMEA licensing business world for their outstanding contribution to product, retail and commercial excellence over the last 12 months.
 
The winners of the coveted Golden Bunnies will accept their awards at a reception on the WBCP EMEA stand at Brand Licensing Europe 2014. Last year’s winners included LEGO, Rubie’s Costume Co., Nestle Waters, Character Group, Eaglemoss, Dexxon, LIDL, Inditex/Bershka, H&M, Benetton, George@Asda and Primark.

AFRICA

Viacom Making Further Inroads in African Market

Viacom International Media Networks (VIMN) Africa will broaden its entertainment offering on DStv across Africa with the launch of two new 24-hour kids and family channels from Nickelodeon, while also extending the reach of general entertainment channel BET International in South Africa.
 
With the launch of Nick Jr., Nicktoons and BET International on 30 September, VIMN Africa now has a total of eight distinct entertainment brands.  This expansion of its portfolio, which also includes MTV, MTV Base, Comedy Central, Nickelodeon and VH1 Classic, increases VIMN Africa’s offering of content to audiences across all key age demographics.
 
Commented Alex Okosi, Senior Vice President & Managing Director, VIMN Africa, “We are delighted to partner with MultiChoice to strengthen our kids and family, and general entertainment offering in Africa.  Nick Jr., Nicktoons and BET International provide the perfect complement to our existing entertainment, music, comedy, and kids and family channels.”

Thunderbirds Are Go Arriving in Australia in 2015

Inspired by the 1960’s classic “Thunderbirds” series, created by puppet master Gerry Anderson, “Thunderbirds Are Go” is a new action adventure series. A co-production between ITV Studios and New Zealand’s Pukeko Pictures in association with world-famous Weta Workshop (The Lord of the Rings, Avatar), the new series is scheduled to debut on Channel 9 in Australia in April 2015.
 
Merchantwise has been appointed by ITV Studios Global Entertainment (ITVS GE), to manage the development of the new licensing and merchandising program for this iconic property in Australia.
 
Alan Schauder, Managing Director of Merchantwise says: “We are very excited to be working with ITVS GE, to bring this reimagined classic Down Under and to introduce today’s younger generation to “The Thunderbirds” and the world of international rescue.”

DHX Takes Hank Zipzer Around the Globe

Hank ZipzerDHX Media has announced numerous international sales with key broadcasters worldwide for all episodes of its comedy-drama series Hank Zipzer, currently in its second season.
 
Disney has acquired Hank Zipzer for Disney Channel across Spain, Italy, Benelux, and Latin America. In Scandinavia SVT Sweden and NRK Norway have both joined the lineup of broadcasters airing the show. In further deals DHX has sold the series to ABC3 in Australia and e-Junior in UAE.
 
Josh Scherba, SVP Distribution at DHX Media, said: “It’s no surprise that we have found international broadcasters for this series, given its universal themes, humour and sensitivity which are relatable the world over. The popular books written by Henry Winkler have translated easily into an irrepressible series which is full of energy and fun - not least in his performance as the inspiring mentor, Mr Rock.”
