LIMA Seeks Nominations for the Licensing Hall of Fame

The international Licensing Industry Merchandisers’ Association (LIMA) is now accepting recommendations for the Licensing Hall of Fame. Each year LIMA honors creators, marketers, manufacturers, and anyone who makes outstanding contributions to the global licensing community.
Individuals with a minimum of 15 years of experience in the licensing business, a detailed description of their body of work, unique contribution to the industry, development or advancement of a specific aspect of the business, ongoing relevance to the industry, business ethics and principles consistent with the licensing industry, and LIMA membership for at least three years are eligible for nomination.
To be considered for induction into the 2016 Hall of Fame, online recommendations must be made through LIMA’s website and received by November 6.

Disney Consumer Products and Interactive Media Sign PowerA for Disney Infinity Playmation

PowerA has secured a partnership with Disney Consumer Products and Interactive Media as the official licensee for the company’s toys-to-life video game brand Disney Infinity and new imagination-fueled toy Playmation.

Under this new partnership, PowerA will design and manufacture a new line of products for Disney Infinity, beginning with the Disney Infinity 3.0 Edition, which features Star Wars-themed items, as well as the company’s new interactive toy brand, Playmation, which kicks off this October with a Marvel’s Avengers-themed experience.
PowerA will introduce character displays, carrying and storage cases, and battery charging solutions at online retailers, at, and at major retailers in North America, Europe, and South America.

GBI Launches Baby Genius Products Exclusively on Amazon

Genius Brands International Inc. (GBI) will launch a new line of Baby Genius products-with-a-purpose exclusively on to celebrate the re-launch of the Baby Genius brand across retail stores. The lineup includes more than 40 toys, new entertainment, and an app for Kindle Fire.
The re-launch is part of a robust expansion GBI’s brand based on the new Baby Genius learn-and-grow program that aligns with a child’s natural development through five different stages, from newborn to a 3-year-old toddler.
Music legend Ron Fair and his wife Stefanie Fair have written and produced original songs to celebrate the launch. New Baby Genius DVDs will be available through Public Media Distribution LLC on Amazon. Later this month, Baby Genius content will also be available on demand through GBI’s Kid Genius channel on Xfinity.

Walmart Introduces Rachael Hale Luggage Bags

Walmart will launch a new range of bags featuring Rachael Hale images to celebrate the brand’s 20th anniversary. The bags are designed to have a contemporary look, made from durable ABS/PC. The bags feature a compact design for the overhead cabin and are equipped with four double spinner wheels. The bags will be available in all 1,500 Walmart stores in time for holiday season.

9 Story Announces Multiple Deals for Guess How Much I Love You

9 Story Media Group has signed multiple deals in advance of MIPJunior for the second season of preschool series Guess How Much I Love You—The Adventures of Little Nutbrown Hare. Licenses have been secured with NCircle Entertainment in North America, Z@pp in the Netherlands, and Minimini in Poland. Deals were also secured for season one of the series with JimJam (Europe, Middle East & Africa) and RTP (Portugal). 
The preschool series is produced by Australia’s SLR Productions, along with Germany’s KIKA-Der Kinderkanal and HR-Hessischer Rundfunk of ARD as well as ABC KIDS.

Downton Abbey Transitions From TV to Lifestyle Brand

As Downton Abbey’s licensing program enters its fourth year, Knockout Licensing celebrates the launch of the Downton Abbey’s transition from TV property to lifestyle brand.
Knockout Licensing announced that licensing deals have been renewed with several licensees, including plans for the third year of a Downton Abbey holiday promotional program with specialty retailer Cost Plus World Market, and extensions that enable licensees to develop products for next year, 2017, and beyond.
Additionally, Andover Fabrics will continue to expand its fabrics line for quilting, Kurt Adler has renewed its license for a range of holiday décor such as hanging ornaments and stocking hangers, Workman Publishing will extend its license to include 2017 engagement diaries and 2017 page-a-day calendars, and Rizzoli International Publications has extended its license to include 2017 and 2018 wall and mini wall calendars.

PetSac Secures Licenses to Expand New Lineup of Backpacks

PetSac Pets, a unique collection of customized backpacks, is just hitting the market, as parent company AHQ signs licensing deals with AG Properties, Nickelodeon, and Sanrio to expand the line.
PetSac Pet bags are multifunctional, full-sized backpacks designed for kids ages 3 and up, which can easily be tucked inside the attached plush. The bag expands to full-size by pulling on the tail of the plush pet. The line’s nine creative options include Blitz the Monkey, Shu Shu the Panda, Catpuccino, and more.
Plans are underway to bring Care Bears, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, SpongeBob SquarePants, Dora, Blaze and the Monster Machines, and Hello Kitty characters into the PetSac family. PetSac’s original collection is now available at Walmart and online at

Animal Planet’s Fund Matching Campaign Returns to Give Partners a Chance to R.O.A.R.

Animal Planet’s fifth annual Reach Out. Act. Respond (R.O.A.R.) fund-matching campaign kicked off this past Monday. Hosted by GlobalGiving, a nonprofit organization that connects donors to grassroots projects around the world, this matching campaign runs for four weeks and encourages consumers to visit to donate to R.O.A.R. or a partner charity that works to make the world a better place for animals.

During this campaign, participating partners compete to earn matching funds that come from the sale of Animal Planet licensed products. This year, seven organizations including David Shepherd Wildlife Foundation, Earthwatch, EQUUS Foundation, Jane Goodall Institute, National Wildlife Federation (NWF), Petfinder Foundation, and Villalobosare are competing for donations that will add up to $100,000 and five $4,000 bonuses. 
The matching funds are generated by Discovery Consumer Products’ Animal Planet brand, which includes pet products, lifestyle products ranging from apparel to toys, and home décor. Animal Planet merchandise licensees contribute a portion of their sales to R.O.A.R. and to date R.O.A.R. donations have surpassed $1.5 million dollars through the sale of Animal Planet consumer products.

Knockout Signs Fabuleash and Pollard Banknote for Boo­­–The World’s Cutest Dog

Knockout Licensing continues to expand its licensing program for Boo–The World’s Cutest Dog, a social media sensation with more than 17 million likes on Facebook, 600,000 followers on Instagram, and a best-selling book series.
Fabuleash and Pollard Banknote Ltd. are the two new licensees onboard with Fabuleash signed on to create stylish dog accessories such as leashes, collars, and harnesses. Pollard Banknote Ltd. will create instant and digital lottery tickets featuring images of Boo. ACCP Brands Corp., responsible for producing Boo calendars, and CSS Industries, responsible for producing boxed classroom valentine gift sets, have also renewed their licensing agreements.    

The Jim Henson Co. Appoints Moorefield Ahead of MIPJunior and MIPCOM

The Jim Henson Co. will attend MIP Jr. and MIPCOM with a roster of children’s programs to commemorate its 60th anniversary. A few titles include Dot, an animated series based on a picture book of the same name by Randi Zuckerberg that follows the adventures of tech-savvy Dot; Word Party, a new vocabulary series for the preschoolers, commissioned by Netflix; Splash!, featuring the wonders of marine life; Dinosaur Train, a preschool series that explores the world of dinosaurs and trains; Doozers, inspired by the classic Henson series Fraggle Rock; Lily’s Driftwood Bay; and Elias: Rescue Team Adventures.
Additionally, the company has appointed Anna Moorefield as the new director of global distribution and sales. In her new role, Moorefield will be responsible for worldwide home entertainment and digital sales. Previously, Moorefield worked as a manager for international TV and digital distribution at Lionsgate, and as a freelance writer for arts and entertainment companies like Sarasota Film Festival.

Moschino’s Looney Tunes Collection Debuts Across Europe

The retail launch of Moschino’s Looney Tunes collection has kicked off with dedicated windows across the fashion house’s European stores.
The branded store windows will run in Milan and Rome for a two-week period, with the collection then launching in London and Los Angeles later this month.
“We’re delighted to partner with Jeremy Scott to bring the universal appeal of the iconic Looney Tunes characters to Moschino’s Autumn/Winter 2015 range,” said Karen McTier, Executive Vice President, Warner Bros. Consumer Products. “We know our high-fashion fans will enjoy this chic meets pop culture collection that is a true combination of the Looney Tunes’ attitude and Moschino’s flare.”

Bratz Launches New App

MGA Entertainment (MGAE) has launched an app to support its all-new Bratz range.
Available now from the iTunes store and on Google Play, the free app targets girls 6 to 8 and is available in 16 countries.
Bratz Brand Manager, Nicola Mellor explains: “Bratz are back with a host of modern updates for Generation Z, including immersive digital content and webisodes. The new app sits alongside these and also brings elements from the product range onto a digital platform.  The Photobooth play set for example has increased play value when pictures are uploaded to the app, giving users the chance to customize and get even more creative.”


Brand Beckham Worth Half a Billion Pounds

As the Beckham family make waves across a multitude of industries, experts estimate that the value of brand Beckham is now at almost half a billion.
Specialists at the London School of Marketing have compiled the data on the most famous family in Britain after the Royals, the Beckhams.
The research was analyzed by looking at both the different business ventures and the marketing value of David, Victoria, Brooklyn, Romeo, Cruz and Harper.
Experts also estimate that Brand Beckham generates between £30 to £40 million per year.
As Victoria’s latest collection, presented at New York Fashion Week 2015, firmly establishes her as a well respected fashion designer, it is clear brand Beckham is a lot more than a retired footballer and his family.
The experts concluded that the Beckham marketing power resides in the family’s three main corporate vehicles. Footworks, where David’s football related revenues are collated, the Beckham label, for all their endorsements, and Beckham Venture, for Victoria’s fashion business.
Current estimates put the value for Footworks at £150 million, the Beckham name at £70 million and Beckham Ventures at £60 million.
This combined with their non-business assets of an estimated £190 million puts the family name at a total value of £470 million.
Interestingly, researchers found that the Beckham label is now growing in value since David gave up his professional football career.

Warner Bros. Appoints Megalicense as Representative in Russia and CIS

Warner Bros. Consumer Products EMEA (WBCP) has appointed Megalicense International as its licensing representatives in Russia and the Commonwealth of Independent States’ (CIS) markets as of January 1, 2016.
Under the agreement with Warner Bros. Consumer Products, Megalicense International will be responsible for WBCP’s vast portfolio of classic brands, television, films and new theatrical releases and their licensing and merchandising programs in Russia and CIS markets.
Megalicense International will be working with such global brands as the classic animated properties Looney Tunes, Tom and Jerry, The Flintstones, and Scooby-Doo; fan-favorites such as Mortal Kombat and all DC Comics Super Heroes, including Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman; as well as the highly anticipated theatrical films such as Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and many more.

“Warner Bros. Consumer Products represents the excellence in the entertainment licensing industry and their plans for the future are just amazing,” commented Friderico Gatti, CEO Megalicense International.  “We plan to build, promote, assist and expand the Warner Bros. Consumer Products licensing and merchandising business, reinforcing its position as a leader of the market in our territories.”

Worldwide Winx Reunion Is a Success

The fairies of Winx Club transfixed fans from around the world during the Winx Worldwide Reunion, which took place last week in the Italian town of Jesolo.
The town was painted pink during the magical four-day event, and special Winx Club surprises were waiting on every street corner to greet the thousands of young girls who flocked to Jesolo from more than 20 countries including Russia, Turkey, Malaysia, Vietnam, Taiwan, US, and of course across Europe including the whole of Italy.
Fans and their families attended a special welcome party, before taking part in a host of exciting events – these included a Winx Club fashion show, a creative lab and lots of singing, dancing and games! Guests were also entranced by a special live Winx Club musical.

Hello Kitty to Attend Gothenburg Book Fair

Hello Kitty will be attending, on her first official trip to Sweden, the Gothenburg Book Fair.
This annual event held in Sweden since 1985, which primarily started as a trade fair, is now the one of the biggest literary festivals in Scandinavia and the second biggest book fair in Europe. It has around 100,000 visitors and 900 exhibitors annually.
A successful 2015 for Hello Kitty who, after being appointed as official Ambassador for Japanese Pavilion at Expo 2015 in Milan; the successful partnership with A.C. Milan announced on March and the new scored partnerships with other two top level soccer teams in Europe, Paris Saint Germain in France and Fenerbahce in Turkey and the fabulous Prismatic World Tour with the English pop star Katy Perry is now flying to Sweden to welcome guests and to promote culture among kids. 
Egmont Media Group was among the first of Sanrio´s partners to develop publishing contents for Hello Kitty with more than 2.500 pages created since the launch. Hello Kitty’s presence is the way to honor this long-lasting and successful partnership.

Sony to Present Latest in Uncharted Series at BLE

Sony Computer Entertainment Europe (SCEE) will be presenting the latest installment in its award-winning action-adventure Uncharted series, Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End, at this year’s Brand Licensing Europe 2015 (BLE).
Launching exclusively on the PlayStation 4 system on 18th March 2016, A Thief’s End sees with new gameplay mechanics, larger, more open environments, and enhanced graphics and animations that showcase the power of the PS4 system.
David Evans, European Licensing Manager at Sony Computer Entertainment Europe comments, “Uncharted 4 presents a very exciting licensing opportunity. Goodyear Launches Collection of Bags and Luggage in the UK

Goodyear is set to launch its collection of luggage and bags in the UK in September 2015.
Useful accessories, such as wallets and waist belt/hip pack, complete and complement the Goodyear Luggage and Bags range and are designed to give consumers the confidence that their valuables are kept safe through reliable solutions. Backpacks come with rubber details and racing inspired looks are reminiscent of Goodyear’s motorsports and racing heritage - from the tracks of Formula 1 to Nascar Racing. 9 Story Media Group Broadens Partnership with Discovery Kids Latin America

9 Story Media Group has licensed more than 183 half-hours of premium children’s programming to Discovery Kids Latin America. The new seasons of Peg + Cat and Wild Kratts will air on the network’s pan-regional pay TV feeds in Mexico, Colombia, Brazil, and the rest of Latin America.
Peg + Cat is an animated preschool series that follows a spirited little girl, Peg, and her sidekick Cat, while Wild Kratts is an adventure-comedy series about Chris and Martin Kratt’s encounters with fun animals.

Imira Making Its Mark in Latin America

Imira Entertainment has signed four key deals across Latin America and Hispanic USA for its children’s content.
Cartoon Network takes Imira Entertainment’s Gaturro (1 x 90’), the animated feature-length love story of two cats, for its Latin American channels. Discovery Latin America will air The Hero of Color City (1 x 77’), the magical adventures of a box of crayons – while Netflix takes Imira’s live-action J.K. Rowling biopic Magic Beyond Words (1 x 90’) and the savvy sleuth Sandra, Fairytale Detective (53 x 13) for Latin America.
Imira has also signed a significant deal with DirectTV for four films: The Living Forest, Crab Island, Entre Vivir Y Soñar and El Habitante Incierto for Hispanic USA, as well as four seasons of the animated comedy Rat-a-Tat (156 x 7’).
Sergi Reitg, CEO of Imira Entertainment adds: “Latin America and Hispanic USA are core markets for Imira – our ability to provide world-class English and Spanish language programming to the leading outlets in those regions and our privileged position in the global marketplace means we continue to bring outstanding new content to these audiences.”


DHX Makes More than 2,500 Half-Hours of Content Available in China

DHX Media has signed a deal to provide more than 2,500 half hours of content to Alibaba Group’s video-on-demand (VOD) service, which is currently available on its content-delivery set-top box Tmall Box, OTT devices, and various smart TV devices in China.
The deal with Alibaba includes DHX Media titles such as Teletubbies, Caillou, Paddington Bear, Super WHY!, Rastamouse, Johnny Test, and Martha Speaks. Users of the Alibaba platform can now stream this premium content through TV devices such as Tmall Box.

LMCA Named Licensing Agency for RCA in China

LMCA announced that it has been selected as the licensing agency for RCA in China.
Through LMCA’s Shanghai office, licensees will be sought to sell RCA branded products with the same attributes the brand highlights in the US: strong American image, quality, value and trust.
Allan Feldman, CEO of LMCA stated, “With its long heritage and innovative products, RCA is well positioned to meet the demands of the China consumer.” He added, “RCA enjoys the kind of respected worldwide reputation which is appealing in the China market. In China, quality evokes prestige, which makes this the perfect opportunity to expand RCA’s global reach and reinforce its global brand image.”
