Kohl’s Department Stores, AwesomenessTV Partner for Fashion Line, YouTube Series

S.o. R.a.dKohl’s Department Stores have partnered with AwesomenessTV to launch seven capsules of S.o. R.a.d., a limited-edition junior’s fashion line and Life’s S.o. R.a.d., an original four-season YouTube series featuring top teen influencers. The first S.o. R.a.d. junior’s capsule will launch at Kohl’s and on September 22. The line will feature dresses, sweaters, skirts, knits, and leggings and is influenced by urban edge, Tokyo pop, and princess styles.
Life’s S.o. R.a.d. will debut on September 19, starring Amanda Steele and Lia Marie Johnson. Each episode will engage followers in an authentic social conversation using #sorad on Twitter and Instagram to drive excitement about the new fashion line. Each of the series’ seasons will feature a different pair of influencers and storylines. The series will live on the AwesomenessTV YouTube channel and will be promoted across the AwesomenessTV multi-channel network.

Marvel Launches Month-Long National Celebration: Marvel Super Hero September

Super Hero SeptemberThis month, Disney Consumer Products and Marvel have teamed up for an annual national multi-platform campaign on behalf of the Marvel brand. The September-long celebration, Power Up Like a Marvel Super Hero, will feature retail partnerships, licensing partners, advertising, and online activations. The strategy will place a stake in the ground for Marvel and its characters, which celebrate 75 years of history.
The central hub for Marvel Super Hero September will be a new online portal,, which will house content and activities, including a national photo sweepstakes contest supported by select national retailers. Marvel will also be re-launching, which will also feature content.Description:
For the inaugural campaign, Marvel has lined up retailers including Wal-Mart, Target, Kmart, Payless, Party City, Amazon, and the Disney Store, each of which will feature unique promotions, special offers, and weekly in-store events. The events include Wal-Mart Retailtainment Day on September 20, in-store photo contests at Party City stores, weekly Marvel Super Hero events at Disney Store locations across the U.S., and more. All participants will receive a free Marvel Super Hero mask.
Along with supporting the aforementioned retailers through a merchandising program, Hasbro will launch an in-theater campaign feature to highlight new Spider-Man and Captain America role-play items. Additionally, a one page Hasbro ad will be included in Marvel’s Captain America: The Winter Soldier Blu-Ray/DVD insert, providing product and campaign details.

FCP, Pacsun to Launch Rook x Family Guy Collection

Family GuyFox Consumer Products, Rook, and PacSun will launch an apparel and accessories collection featuring characters from the TV show Family Guy on Sept. 26. The collection includes three hip-hop graphic T-shirts, each based on the characters Peter, Stewie, and Brian, fusing Rook’s pop-culture influences with the well-known characters.
The collection will be exclusive to PacSun stores and online, and is the first time the retailer has carried licensed Family Guy merchandise.

Mr. Bubble, Drizzle Studios Partner for Original Art and Prints

Firefly Brand Management has added Drizzle Studios as the newest licensee for Mr. Bubble. Drizzle Studios will design and market a line of original art and prints featuring the iconic Mr. Bubble character. The line will include Mr. Bubble paintings, created especially for the bathroom, that come bundled with etched vinyl “Bubble” decals for mirror application. 

FCP Celebrates Final Sons of Anarchy Season with New Licensing Programs

Sons of AnarchyTwentieth Century Fox Consumer Products (FCP) has created a multi-category global licensing program for Sons of Anarchy, featuring all-new branded merchandise. Leading licensing partners include Metal Mulisha and Changes for apparel; Time Inc., Boom! Comics, St. Martin's Press, and Running Press Books for publishing; Gale Force Nine and Mezco Toys for toys and games; and Cigars International, Zippo, and Segal Fine Art for collectors’ items.
Specialty retail programs timed to the #FinalRide season of Sons of Anarchy include Spencer’s Gifts, Hastings, and Spirit Halloween stores.

Vandor Adds Doctor Who as Newest Licensee

Dr. WhoVandor LCC has added Doctor Who to its roster of licenses. The company will be a primary drinkware supplier for the Doctor Who license in the U.S. and Canada. The new collection debuted this summer, and features the show’s characters and distinctive phrases in comic book style graphics. 

RJM Licensing to Represent The Country Diary of an Edwardian Lady 

The Country DiaryRJM Licensing will represent The Country Diary of an Edwardian Lady in the U.S. and Canada. Target categories include over the counter fabric/quilting goods, greeting cards, home décor, gift bags, gift wrap, kitchen textiles, ceramics, rubber stamps, and prints. 

Hasbro, Bazooka Partner for Cross Promotion

Hasbro and Bazooka Candy Brands have partnered for a cross-promotion in merchandising and retail, digital, and social media to launch this month through the end of the year. Retail initiatives will feature a strong in-store presence, where shoppers can receive $3 off any one Hasbro game coupon or a chance to win a Carnival cruise, sponsored by Topps, or one of 100 Hasbro game and Bazooka Candy Brand prize packs., Bazooka Candy Brands’ site, will be rebranded and skinned, featuring Hasbro game themes showcasing the joint promotion and integration. The website will also host an interactive online promotion, sponsored by Topps, featuring an instant win game where fans can play for a chance to win game and candy prize packs. In addition, there will be cross promotions on both Bazooka Candy Brands’ and Hasbro’s social media platforms.

Kids Preferred, Carter’s Sign Licensing Agreement

Kids Preferred has acquired the toy license from Carter’s Inc. to develop branded plush, activity, and wood toys; as well as puzzles, play gyms, plush rockers, and foot-to-floor scooters in the U.S. and Canada. The first items will arrive on shelves this fall.

9 Story Entertainment Expands Licensing for Fugget About It

Fugget About It9 Story Entertainment has secured multiple licenses for its animated primetime comedy Fugget About It as the series moves into production on its third season. The licenses include a home entertainment deal with Entertainment One (eOne) and e-commerce site with Monetyze.
eOne will release the first season of the series in Canada on DVD Sept. 30, while the e-commerce site features branded drinkware, T-shirts, iPod cases, and more.

The Wiggles Tour North America to Promote New CD, DVD 

The WigglesThe Wiggles are back on tour across the country to support their new CD and DVD, Apples and Bananas, as well as a new season of their TV show airing on Sprout in the U.S. and Treehouse in Canada. During each performance, the quartet will be joined by Dorothy the Dinosaur, Captain Feathersword, Wags the Dog, and Henry the Octopus.

Peavey Electronics Releases Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy Collection

Guardians of the GalaxyPeavy Electronics adds Marvel products to its line with Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy musical instruments and accessories. Fans can bring the superheroes to life with guitars, ukuleles, straps, and picks from Peavy. The guitars and ukeleles are decorated with Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy characters featuring a high gloss finish. Fans can also choose from a selection of themed straps and picks.

The Jim Henson Co. to Debut Preschool Series Hi Opie!

Hi Opie!The Jim Henson Co. will unveil the new live-action preschool series, Hi Opie!, at MIP Junior and MIPCOM for the first time. marblemedia will produce the property, which will be presented as both a finished English language series and international format. Hi Opie! was developed with TVO and produced in partnership with TVO, City Saskatchewan, and Knowledge Network.
The series is designed for preschoolers and stars 5-year-old Opie, a puppet custom-built by the experts at Jim Henson’s Creature Shop. Opie and his real kid classmates are in their first year of kindergarten, and with each new day, he learns more about himself, his friends, and his teachers. With the guidance of their teacher, the kids in the TV classroom and at home learn through play by having fun, asking questions, imagining, and continuing to be curious.
The Jim Henson Co. will oversee all TV, DVD, digital distribution, and format rights, as well as all consumer products worldwide. marblemedia will launch an extensive interactive component this month. The online content, hosted by Opie himself, will reinforce the core messages of the brand by offering kids interactive stories, explanatory environments, and activities and games. The website will be available for international licensing. 

Sesame Workshop Appoints Jeffrey Dunn as President and CEO

Vincent A. Mai, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Sesame Workshop, has announced the appointment of Jeffrey D. Dunn as President and Chief Executive Officer of Sesame Workshop, effective September 29, 2014.
Mr. Dunn, formerly the President and CEO of HiT Entertainment, will succeed Mel Ming who announced his retirement earlier this year. Mr. Dunn will lead the nonprofit educational organization in its mission to use the educational power of media to help all children reach their highest potential.
“Jeff Dunn has an outstanding track record in the world of children’s media,” said Vincent Mai. “At HiT Entertainment, Jeff led the company’s resurgence and successful turn-around before it was sold to Mattel in 2012. And under his leadership, Nickelodeon became one of the industry’s most global networks, largest licensing businesses, as well as the world’s largest digital media business for kids. His current experience at Harvard is a testament to his commitment to the educational power of media and we look forward to the Workshop thriving under his creative, inspired leadership.”

Universal Pictures Appoints Vince Klaseus President, Universal Brand Development

Vince Klaseus Universal Pictures has announced that Vince Klaseus will join the company as President of a newly-created Brand Development division. 
In this role, Klaseus will develop and implement a long term strategic plan to expand the company’s presence in the family and kids space, including positioning Universal and creating new strategies to build and grow its portfolio of brands and consumer products.  The announcement was made by Universal Filmed Entertainment Group Chairman Jeff Shell, to whom Klaseus will report.
“Universal has an enormous opportunity to unify and grow our brands in a way that allows us to capitalize on existing franchises and characters and grow new ones that we can deploy across the NBCUniversal ecosystem,” said Shell.  “Vince is one of the best executives in the business at leveraging innovative strategies to create successful products, and he will be a terrific leader for this new division.”  
In his new role, Klaseus will be responsible for centralizing Universal businesses and brands to grow product opportunities in the retail and non-theatrical content space.  Universal Partnerships & Licensing President Stephanie Sperber will continue to lead NBCUniversal’s global consumer products, promotions, and digital gaming efforts, which includes the merchandising and licensing of the company’s wealth of intellectual properties, including Universal Pictures, Universal Studios Home Entertainment, NBC Entertainment and Sprout, reporting to Klaseus.  Universal 1440 Entertainment  EVP & General Manager Glenn Ross will continue in his role as head of Universal Studios’ Home Entertainment’s content production arm, developing and producing kids and family entertainment for non-theatrical distribution worldwide.  Ross, who reports to President Worldwide Home Entertainment Eddie Cunningham, will now also report to Klaseus.  


LIMA Highlights Top Kid Toy Brands in Survey for Back-to-School Season 

A new study by the Licensing Industry Merchandiser’s Association (LIMA) has revealed the nation’s favorite licensed toy brands among British children and what is likely to be seen on back-to-school products such as backpacks, pencil cases, and lunch boxes. The study showed that global brands Lego and Barbie dominate both in the UK and abroad as the brands celebrate their 65th and 55th birthdays, respectively.

DC Thompson, Dr. Martens Extend Partnership for The Beano Collection

The Beano CollectionDC Thomson Consumer Products has extended its partnership with Dr. Martens to launch a Fall/Winter 2014 Limited Edition The Beano collection. This latest shoe line will be available for adults and juniors, which boast artwork from the comics Dennis the Menace, Gnasher, and Minnie the Minx. The second line of boots is available for infants and juniors. In addition to laces, the styles made for kids also feature a side zip, and new to the line, is a T-bar style shoe.
The Autumn/Winter Limited Edition The Beano collection will be available from Dr. Martens stores internationally and at selected independent stores this month.

The Wisdom of Kids, Gemma International Partner for Greeting Cards

The Wisdom of Kids has entered an agreement with Gemma International Ltd. for licensed greeting cards. The partnership will bring the design brand to specialist card retail outlets, stores, and supermarkets nationwide next spring/summer. The line will include stand alone designs with occasion and relation cards.
JELC, the UK-based licensing agency for The Wisdom of Kids, plans to expand the brand to stationery, gifts, apparel, electronics, home-wares, household textiles, and more. 

DHX Signs Character Options as Master Toy for Teletubbies

TeletubbiesDHX Media has appointed Character Options as global master toy partner for the new series of Teletubbies. The deal was completed by DHX Brands, the company’s dedicated brand and consumer products arm.
Character Options will launch product at retail in the UK in 2016, with other territories to follow. Core categories will be plush, plastics and bath toys.
The new 60-episode series of Teletubbies has been commissioned by the UK’s CBeebies and is being produced by UK production company, Darrall Macqueen Ltd. It will feature the same characters but will bring a refreshed, contemporary look to one of the world’s most well-known pre-school properties, ensuring that it is relevant for a new generation.

Imira’s Original Content Goes on Demand with Hulu

ImiraImira Entertainment has inked a deal with SVOD provider Hulu which will see Lola & Virginia available in North America on the platform through a deal brokered by US distributor Viva Pictures Distribution.
