In Memorium: Cheryl Stoebenau

The licensing world mourns the loss of Cheryl Stoebenau who passed away on Friday, September 4 at her home in Connecticut.
Beginning with Hallmark in 1972, then moving to Coleco as executive director of licensing, working on Cabbage Patch Kids, and forming her own agency, CAS Marketing in 1986, Stoebenau’s was one of the leading licensing agents in the industry. This June, she was inducted into the Licensing Hall of Fame for her many professional accomplishments.
For over a decade Stoebenau also steered LIMA’s charity committee, raising funds and awareness for Children’s Brain Tumor Foundation (CBTF). She was able to raise nearly $6 million since 2005.

The Care Bears Celebrate the First Official National Care Bears #ShareYourCare Day

American Greetings Properties (AGP) celebrated the inaugural National Care Bears #ShareYourCare Day on September 9. To commemorate the event, the Care Bears spent a holiday on location in the Bronx, NY, and teamed up with 10-year-old philanthropist Zach Kaplan and Leake & Watts to donate plush toys to children in New York City.
Care Bears also aligned with an army of nearly 300 bloggers known as the Care Bears #ShareYourCare Ambassadors, all of whom have taken the Care Bears #ShareYourCare oath to spread the message of love.
Kaplan teamed up with the Care Bears, who are supporting his charity ZachKapCares, as well as his mission to gift children in need with a soft bear to hug at night. Together, the Care Bears and Zach have chosen to donate 400 Care Bears plush toys and DVDs to children aged 2 to 4 who are supported by Leake & Watts early childhood programs in the Bronx.

Vandor to Offer Tetris-Branded Home and Lifestyle Merchandise

The Tetris Company LLC and Vandor LLC have entered into a licensing agreement that will enable Vandor to offer Tetris-branded home and lifestyle merchandise to its network of major national retailers and e-tailers, as well as the independent giftware channel.
Vandor will showcase Tetris’ imagery in home décor, drink ware, seasonal items, collectibles, and fun and functional products this fall. A formal introduction to retailers will begin at industry gift shows in January next year.

CBS Consumer Products to Represent Popular TV Franchise Hawaii Five-0

CBS Consumer Products will represent the merchandising rights for the classic and contemporary versions of TV series Hawaii Five-0 on behalf of the Freeman Estate.
Created by Leonard Freeman, the original series debuted in 1968 and ran for 12 seasons. Hawaii Five-0 returned to TV in 2010 with a new, contemporary version airing on CBS. The upcoming merchandising line will include both the classic version of the series as well as the modern version, and focus on apparel, gift, novelty and collectibles. Products are slated to hit retail stores next year.

Gymboree Introduces Exclusive Dinotrux Collection

Gymboree has introduced an exclusive collection inspired by the launch of DreamWorks Animation’s Netflix original series, Dinotrux. The all-new series follows the epic adventures of half- dinosaur and half-construction vehicle creatures including Ty Rux, a massive Tyrannosaurus Trux, and his best friend Revvit, a tiny razor-smart Reptool.
A limited-edition clothing and accessory collection is now available in stores and online at, in sizes ranging from 4 to 12. Styled after Ty and Revvit, these clothes are geared for play and include screen-printed tees, embroidered jeans, embellished hats, sneakers, and backpacks. DreamWorks has also created a Dinotrux coloring book, an activity set, and four pop-up books available exclusively at Gymboree.
To celebrate its collection launch, Gymboree will be hosting special shopping events at 25 select stores in the U.S. and Canada.  On September 12, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., fans can shop the collection, watch Dinotrux on Gymboree TV, and can become one of the first to play with Power Revvit, one of the toys from the Mattel’s Dinotrux line. Kids can also get a chance to bring their favorite Dinotrux characters to life in 3-D, using the DreamWorks Color app and Gymboree’s custom coloring sheets.

eOne Refreshes Its Logo

Continuing its evolution and growth as a leader in the global entertainment industry, Entertainment One (eOne) unveiled its new logo on the eve of the Toronto International Film Festival to mark its connection with the city that serves as the company’s corporate headquarters.
The new logo reinforces eOne’s corporate goal of extending its worldwide network, and producing and delivering a new level of innovative quality content.
To friends and partners, the company has become eOne. But to those unfamiliar with eOne’s great work, they are still Entertainment One. This hybrid identity is reflected in the new design of the brand.
This brand design extends to the company’s associated brands including Les Films Séville, Seville International, Paperny Entertainment, The Mark Gordon Company, and Force Four Entertainment. The design is customized to both unify and build on the names and strengths of these brands.

American Artist Hunt Slonem Partners with Prominent

New York City-based artist and designer Hunt Slonem has partnered with Prominent Brand + Talent (Prominent), a global brand management and development consortium, to launch himself as a worldwide brand, and to develop a wide-ranging licensing program for his image as a lifestyle brand, while also serving as his own personal management agency. 
Known to millions of art lovers for his vibrant, colorful paintings of birds, butterflies, and bunnies as well as for his interior designs that combine vintage furnishings with contemporary art, Slonem is considered one of the great colorists of his time.
In order to develop the Hunt Slonem brand, Prominent will seek to create licensed products that reflect the artist’s rich history in home and furniture designs across a broad spectrum of categories including furnishing, lighting, bedding, home décor accessories, jewelry, entertaining/table top, flooring and area rugs, wall coverings, and more. These products will be aimed at sophisticated consumers who shop in high-end retail and specialty stores. Slonem will also be making an appearance this month on The Today Show, and will be featured in the upcoming issues of Vanity Fair, Modern Luxury and Traditional Home.

Outfit7 and Bee7 Appoint Mika Kuusisto to Drive New Growth Phase

The Outfit7 Group announced the appointment of mobile industry veteran Mika Kuusisto as the chief revenue officer for Outfit7 and Bee7. Kuusisto will be based out of the company’s Cyprus headquarters and will report to co-founder and CEO of Outfit7 and Bee7, Samo Login.
Kuusisto will be responsible for spearheading growth for Outfit7, the global family entertainment company behind the Talking Tom and Friends franchise. Kuusisto will also serve the same role for Bee7, the mobile games engagement, retention, and re-engagement solution developed by Outfit7, which is now available to all developers.

Octane5 International LLC Augments Business Growth with New European Appointment

Denise Penn has joined Octane5 International LLC as the business development director to develop the company’s growing portfolio of European clients. 
Penn, a licensing industry veteran with over 25 years experience in the industry, has worked as a retail buyer, licensee, licensor, and business process specialist. Penn was recently included as one of the Top 100 Women in UK Licensing.

MarVista Appoints Larry Grimaldi as VP of Development and Production

MarVista Entertainment (MarVista) has appointed former Real Housewives senior producer and Hearst Entertainment executive Larry Grimaldi to the position of vice president of development and production. In his new role, Grimaldi will help create and produce entertainment programming in the TV movie, scripted series, and digital space categories for audiences in all age groups. 
Previously, MarVista worked as an independent producer creating content for CBS, Lifetime, Bravo, MTV, WE, TLC, ABC Family, Style Network, Animal Planet, Oprah, and E! Entertainment.

The Southern 500 Labor Day Weekend Returns After a Decade

This year, NASCAR celebrated the first #TraditionReturns, an ode to the sport’s heritage, in a throwback race weekend that the entire industry rallied around. Nearly 30 of the race cars on track paid homage to the sport’s legends by sporting vintage paint schemes and the iconic Darlington Raceway. Beyond the competition, a retro vibe surrounded the track from the NBC broadcast to the souvenirs, food, and entertainment.
The Fanatics NASCAR Trackside Superstore housed many vintage-inspired products for fans to commemorate the Bojangles’ Southern 500 race weekend. One of the highlights of the Trackside Superstore was the refreshed NASCAR Classics line, which merged icons of the past with the trends of today. This high-quality boutique featured hats, tees, die casts, and hard goods highlighting tracks such as Darlington Raceway and legends like David Pearson, and Bill Elliott.

Hearst Magazines Extends Product Licensing Partnership with IMG

Hearst Magazines will extend its product licensing relationship with IMG to include Cosmopolitan in the U.S. IMG has represented Hearst Magazines’ brands including Cosmopolitan, Esquire, and Harper’s Bazaar, outside U.S. since June 2013. 
IMG has secured and managed multiple licensing partnerships for Cosmopolitan across fashion and beauty categories in Europe, Asia, and Latin America. Notable deals include the Cosmopolitan fragrance, which will be in stores throughout Europe and Australia during fall this year, as well as a group of Harper’s Bazaar cafés in the UAE, opening in Dubai later this year. Additional products for Hearst Magazines brands are in various stages of development.

CPLG Appoints Virginie Kleinclaus-Renard as Managing Director in France

Virginie Kleinclaus-Renard, with 20 years experience supervising the licensing and merchandising for Disney Consumer Products, has been hired as the managing director of CPLG businesses in France.
At Disney, Kleinclaus-Renard served as the director of infant, home, and fashion. She was also the retail marketing director for major vendors in France and Benelux.

Coolabi Signs New Deals for Purple Ronnie

Coolabi has signed deals with two new licensing partners, Summersdale and Funstickers, for its Purple Ronnie property.
With this new partnership, Summersdale will responsible for publishing and distributing books worldwide, barring North America. Consumers can expect to see the new collection of books in spring next year.

Hinchcliffe & Barber Launch New Products at Autumn Fair and Top Drawer

Hinchcliffe & Barber are launching two new products at Autumn Fair and Top Drawer.
Winners of the 2015 Gift of The Year Award with its grey, songbird ceramics, My Gifts Trade is building on its success by expanding its offering with a new range of garden accessories including a trowel and fork set, string tin, watering can, herb potter, kneeler, gloves, and tool set. MGT is adding to the kitchen range with a bamboo tray, glass bottles, and chopping board.  
Hinchcliffe & Barber’s newest licensee, Paul Bristow Associates, will be launching a range of British-made textiles at Top Drawer.  Products including tote bags, cushion, and cosmetics bags will feature their popular birds and leaves print, alongside a new take on their classic safari antelope design and their colorful chintz floral design.
Licensed by an independent agency, JELC, Hinchcliffe & Barber is also targeting an international market with the Yokohama-based Huayu Company in Japan.

Maurizio Distefano Licensing to Represent Angry Birds in Italian Market

Maurizio Distefano Licensing, the independent licensing group, has been appointed as licensing agent in Italy for Angry Birds, the video game and brand created and owned by Finnish computer game developer, Rovio Entertainment.
This is the first time an agent has been appointed for Angry Birds in Italy. It is one of a number of new high-level regional appointments as Rovio reboots the Angry Birds franchise in preparation for the release of a brand new 3-D animated Angry Birds film in May next year.

H&A Signs Shopkins

H&A has announced a new partnership with Shopkins. The announcement coincides with the introduction of the third new series of Shopkins characters that hit the shelves in summer, this year.
Shopkins has won the 2015 Girl Toy of the Year award at the Toy of the Year awards ceremony in February, beating both Barbie and The Lego Group.

Disney Junior and France 5 to Air Entertainment One’s New Preschool Superhero Series

Entertainment One Family (eOne) announced that its new CGI animated series, PJ Masks will be broadcast for the first time on Disney Channel and Disney Junior in the U.S. on September 18 and in France on France 5, later this fall.
PJ Masks is produced by eOne, Frog Box, Disney Junior, and France 5 in collaboration with award-winning French animation studio, TeamTO. The series is based on French author Romuald Racioppo’s picture book series Les Pyjamasques.

Pokémon Signs Sambro to Launch New Back-to-School Range

The Pokémon Company International announced signing a deal with Sambro to produce an exclusive Pokémon Back-to-School range. To be launched next year, the deal covers three categories including stationery, bags, and, lunch ware.
The deal has been finalized after a steady period of growth and two years of exceptional sales success for Pokémon in the UK and Europe.
Sambro joins a raft of recently signed UK licensees that includes Character World for bedding, Danilo Promotions Ltd. for calendars, Aykroyds & TDP Licensing Ltd. for nightwear and underwear, and Winning Moves Ltd. in the UK for board games.

New Brand and Licensing Manager for The Copyrights Group

The Copyrights Group has announced Rebecca Langston as their new brand and licensing manager. Langston will be responsible for developing new brand opportunities for JITS and Country Dairy, as well as working across the portfolio alongside brand and marketing Director Polly Emery, and licensing Director Rachel Clarke.
Previously, Langston worked as the commercial manager at Watermelon, where she was responsible for driving the soft lines business for Marks & Spencer.

Egmont Announces Launch of the New Bob The Builder Magazine

The all-new Bob The Builder magazine now available in the market is styled after Bob’s new look in Bob The Builder TV show to be released on Channel 5’s Milkshake slot in September.
The 32-page magazine manages to capture Bob’s trendy Hi-Vis jacket and modern toolkit, but keeps in place his iconic chunky boots, checked shirt, and yellow, hard hat.

Ink Global Launches Mojicons

Ink Global has announced the launch of The Mojicons, a quirky new animation that will give kids insight into a dotty digital world.
Created by Russian artists Alexander Romanetz and Viacheslav Marchenko, the series uses the inner-workings of the Internet as the background to the 52 x 11-minute first season. Viewers enter a world where emoticons live, when a mysterious villain appears on the scene and steals the @ symbol, bringing all electronic correspondence to a grinding halt. Mojicons then undertake a dangerous quest to restore their system.

RJM to Represent Three New Properties

RJM Licensing Inc. will represent three new properties including a children’s book series The Rainbow Fish, a stationery company Paper Russells, and a guitar company Daisy Rock Girl Guitars. 
RJM will act as agent for The Rainbow Fish in the U.S. and Canada. RJM is also entertaining proposals for sub-agents in the UK and Australia.  Key categories for The Rainbow Fish will be plush and toys, apparel, bedding, room décor, and stationery.
On the art side, RJM has been appointed by graphic designer, artist, and stationery company owner, MyungHye to represent her artwork.  Sub-agents will be appointed in key territories such as the UK, Europe, Japan, and Australia. Inquires of interest from agents outside U.S. and Canada are welcome.

Dermalogica Partners with Suffragette to Empower Women

In a partnership created by Brand & Deliver, Dermalogica has joined hands with Suffragette, a feature film in support of women’s rights across the globe.
Scheduled for a UK release by Pathé on October 12, Suffragette stars Carey Mulligan as a radical young suffragette alongside Helena Bonham Carter, Brendan Gleeson,
Anne-Marie Duff, and Meryl Streep, in a first feature film of its kind that tells the story of ordinary British women who risked everything in the fight for equality.
Dermalogica’s existing Financial Independence Through Entrepreneurship (FITE) is a global program supporting woman-owned enterprises worldwide. By expressing views on gender equality, customers can win tickets to a private screening of the film in Mayfair followed by a live debate on women’s empowerment, as well as FITE make up bags and Dermalogica products.


Goodyear Officially Launches Lifestyle Program in Colombia

The Goodyear Lifestyle Program Footwear range rolled out into the Colombia market in March this year.
After testing the market for the last two years by trialing a soft launch of the Goodyear footwear range across Latin America, and receiving positive feedback from consumers and retailers, the time was opportune to officially launch into the key Colombian market.

GBI Licenses Broadcast Rights of Stan Lee’s SLAM7 to Cartoon Network Latin America 

Genius Brands International Inc. (GBI) has secured a multiple territory broadcast licensing agreement for Stan Lee’s Mighty 7 (SLAM7), the animated superhero movie featuring an all-star cast that includes Stan Lee himself, with pan-regional Cartoon Network Latin America.
Produced by Stan Lee Comics, the film is a joint venture among Genius Brands International, POW! Entertainment, and Archie Comics. The animated movie, the first installment of a trilogy, stars Stan Lee, Sean Astin, Jim Belushi, Mayim Bialik, Darren Criss, Flea, Armie Hammer, Teri Hatcher, Michael Ironside, and Christian Slater.
Stan Lee’s Mighty 7 features Lee as an animated version of himself, a legendary superhero creator, who teaches a crew of alien prisoners and their jailers how to work together and use their powers to become superheroes.
With Lee’s fans spread across the globe, GBI has already secured distribution rights across Europe, Asia, Australia, Canada, the U.S., and the Middle East. To date, the Stan Lee’s Mighty 7 brand has been licensed to Factory Entertainment (worldwide toy licensee), Black Lantern (worldwide video game licensee), as well as to a multitude of U.S. apparel and consumer product partners.


Ubisoft and RSG Partner to Create a Next-Generation Theme Park

Ubisoft is partnering with RSG, a co-owner and co-developer of Movie Animation Park Studios (MAPS) to develop a next-generation theme park. By combining a rich portfolio of world-renowned brands with expertise in designing highly interactive gaming experiences, Ubisoft aims to revolutionize the basic concept behind theme parks. 
The project is being led by Ubisoft Motion Pictures, a company with a successful track record expanding Ubisoft’s game brands into theme parks, including the award-winning Rabbids Dark Ride at the French park, Futuroscope.
The planned 10,000 square-meter development will be located in the heart of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, the second-most visited country in Asia. The park which is scheduled to open in 2020, will feature innovative rides, attractions, and shows inspired by some of Ubisoft’s biggest franchises, such as Assassin’s Creed, Just Dance, and Rabbids.
