Target Set to Launch Annie-Inspired Collection

AnnieOn Nov. 16, Target will launch a limited-edition girls’ collection inspired by the upcoming film Annie. Set to hit theaters December 19, Sony Pictures’ contemporized version of the classic movie features a star-studded cast that includes Jamie Foxx, Quvenzhané Wallis, Rose Byrne, Bobby Cannavale, and Cameron Diaz.
In celebration of the iconic story, Target partnered with the Annie costume designer, Renée Ehrlich Kalfus, on a 25-piece collection of girl’s apparel and accessories that captures the essence of the movie’s characters. Annie for Target by Renée Ehrlich Kalfus includes playful pieces with details such as patching, embroidery, buttons, and tulle, as well as a do-it-yourself kit that lets budding fashionistas add even more color and personalization to their wardrobe. 

Gund Expands Brand with Outbound Licensing Program

Gund has expanded its selection of soft toys with a full line of branded bedding, blankets, and bath products developed under license with Heritage Home Fashions. This marks the first partnership in Gund’s outbound licensing program to extend the brand to new markets. The launch of the product line includes plush hoodies inspired by top selling Gund characters; cotton crib sheets in solids and prints; bath ensembles; swaddle blankets; and stroller blankets in a variety of styles and colors.
The full line will be on display at the Gund showroom in New York City during the New York Home Fashions market week.

Hot Topic, FCP Introduce The Book of Life Fashion Collection

The Book of LifeHot Topic, in partnership with Twentieth Century Fox Consumer Products (FCP), has unveiled a limited-edition collection of fashion apparel inspired by the fantasy adventure The Book of Life, from 20th Century Fox and Reel FX Animation Studios. Designed by the Hot Topic team, the fashion collection includes dresses, tops, skirts, and cardigans. In addition, the store will offer a range of film T-shirts, jewelry, accessories, and fragrances.
The collection represents a visual adventure of the heart, mind, and spirit, with graphics and characters inspired by Día de los Muertos. The apparel line will be available exclusively at Hot Topic stores and online on September 15, with pre-sale beginning on August 26.

The Book of Life follows the journey of Manolo, a young man who is torn between fulfilling the expectations of his family and following his heart. Before choosing which path to follow, he faces his greatest fears in three fantastical worlds. The movie hits theaters on October 17.

iStoryTime Announces New Digital Publishing Partnership with Nickelodeon

SpongeBob Square PantsThe iStoryTime Library, powered by Cupcake Digital Inc., will now include new titles from Nickelodeon. Narrated storybooks featuring characters from the network’s series, SpongeBob SquarePants and Dora the Explorer, will be added to the free-to-download library app beginning this month. The new two-year licensing agreement covers a range of books from Nickelodeon’s lineup, joining iStoryTime’s existing content relationships with DreamWorks Animation, Sony, Lafig Belgium/IMPS for Smurfs, PBS, and others.

Angelcare Holding Inc. Acquires Sassy Inc., Hires Dean Robinson as President of Angelcare Baby Division 

Angelcare Holding Inc., the managing company of Angelcare Monitors Inc. and International Refills Co., has acquired Sassy from Kids Brand Inc. Dean Robinson, former president of Sassy, has been hired to serve as president of the Angelcare Baby division and the new Sassy, effective immediately. At Sassy, Robinson led the company’s efforts to expand into new product categories, including licensed goods.

Mercury Inpress Debuts Augmented Reality Book Series

IncredebooksMercury Inpress has debuted a new augmented (AR) reality book brand, Incredebooks. The first book series to debut is Funny Fables, based on popular and iconic children’s fairy tales. In addition, the company has secured a licensing agreement with Mind Candy to create next-generation coloring activity books for its Moshi Monsters brand to use AR technology, to debut throughout North America in the third quarter.
Each of the Incredebooks AR books will focus on colors, shapes, words, and numbers. Incredebooks features interactive activities related to each storyline that help kids learn through hands-on experiences. The series marks the first release of AR storybooks at mass-market retailers and is available at Walmart stores in Canada. Mercury Inpress will debut a second release in the fourth quarter, also in Canada, followed by rollouts throughout the U.S. Mexico, and Latin America next year. 

GBI Introduces Baby Genius Jukebox

Baby Genius JukeboxGenius Brands International Inc. has introduced a new streaming JukeBox on that provides parents and caregivers easy access to the Baby Genius catalogue of kids’ songs. The new service allows unlimited streaming of the Baby Genius music catalog on iOS, Android, and desktop devices. 

Produce for Kids, The Very Hungry Caterpillar Partner for Fall Campaign

The Very Hungry CaterpillarProduce for Kids has partnered with The Very Hungry Caterpillar for its third annual Healthy Families, Healthy Kids campaign this fall. The campaign will run in all Meijer stores and Publix Super Markets this September and October, and will raise funds to support local children’s charities.
Produce for Kids will promote the campaign through all social media platforms and will host various sweepstakes and giveaways on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. Produce for Kids will also engage mom bloggers in each participating retail partner’s markets to help spread the message about healthy eating. In addition, Produce for Kids will host monthly Twitter parties during the campaign focused on seasonal healthy eating topics. The Very Hungry Caterpillar will also host in-store meet-and-greets with families at select participating grocery stores.

Big Tent Entertainment, NFL Players Partner for Co-Brand Deal

Domo NFLBig Tent Entertainment has teamed up with NFL Players for a co-branding deal, which will see its Domo character and NFL players appear on various licensed lines. The line will include plush, novelty items, apparel, hats, bags, drinkware, collectibles, and stickers and embeds for digital games and mobile apps.
Big Tent has the rights to use all NFL players as part of the co-brand, including 1,800 distinct player names, likenesses, numbers, photographs, voices, signatures, original art, and biographical data. The line will launch this fall. 

Keurig Green Mountain, Kraft Foods Sign Licensing Agreement

Keurig Green Mountain Inc. and Kraft Foods Group have partnered for a multi-year licensing, manufacturing, and distribution agreement for Kraft’s branded coffees in Keurig portion pack formats. Under the agreement, coffee brands such as Maxwell House, Gevalia, Yuban, and McCafe will be available for Keurig consumer and commercial brewing systems in the U.S. 

GBI Appoints Lloyd Mintz as Vice President of Consumer Products

Lloyd Mintz Genius Brands International Inc. has appointed Lloyd Mintz to the newly created role of vice president of consumer products. Mintz and president Stone Newman will work together with retailers and licensees to build comprehensive global consumer products’ programs for each of the company’s brands, including Baby Genius, Secret Millionaires Club, Stan Lee’s Mighty 7, Thomas Edison’s Secret Lab, and others in development. In addition, Newman and Mintz will manage licensing programs for properties under GBI’s wholly owned subsidiary, A Squared Entertainment.
Mintz has more than 20 years of experience in licensing, merchandising, and new business development. He has managed his own consultancy, and has negotiated more than 150 licensing agreements and generated more than $600 million in cumulative retail sales on behalf of clients. Most recently, he worked as executive vice president of licensing for NYC-based Galaxy Brands. Prior to starting his own business, Mintz worked at Hasbro and Disney Consumer Products.

DuPont Kevlar Kicks Off New Brand Platform and Sponsorship of ESPN X Games

DuPont Protection Technologies has debuted the new DuPont Kevlar brand platform, Dare Bigger, and is a sponsor of the ESPN X Games through next year. The campaign will begin with the inaugural X Games this week in Austin, Texas.
In addition, Kevlar is the subject of a documentary-style sponsorship that premieres this spring during commercial breaks in the fourth season of the award-winning series Horizons on BBC World News. The Kevlar Journey, Top to Bottom takes the audience from space to earth and below to showcase how the technology can challenge boundaries. Kevlar is seen in the design of such varied products as space suits, cell phones, high-performance sporting equipment and mining belts. 


Poeticgem to Develop Pepsi, 7UP Nightwear Line

Pepsi 7UPPoeticgem is set to develop a range based on the beverage brands Pepsi and 7UP. The company will use classic imagery based on the brands to create an adult nightwear line.

LIMA BLE Global Networking Party Returns, Registration Is Open

LIMA UK's annual Global Networking party at Brand Licensing Europe (BLE) will take place on Wednesday, October 8, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the Crystal Room at the Mayfair Hotel, Sutton Street. The Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC), the body dedicated to promoting Hong Kong trade and opportunities, will sponsor the event for the second time.
Guests will enjoy drinks and canapés served from the adjacent cocktail bar. LIMA has set the time early so that attendees remain free to schedule private or client dinners for later in the evening. David Bowie to Star in New Comic Book

David BowieBluewater Productions has announced the release of new comic book biography of music icon David Bowie.
Fame: David will be released this week in print as well as digital. This summer, Bluewater has released biographical comic books featuring Kurt Cobain, Amy Winehouse, and Freddie Mercury as part of their Tribute series. 
Written by Mike Lynch with art by George Amaru, Fame: David Bowie features, six collectable covers by Michael Troy, Graham Hill, and George Amaru showcasing Bowie’s flamboyant fashion through the decades.

The People’s Friend Partners with Age UK Network 

The People's FriendWeekly women’s magazine, The People’s Friend, is to launch a partnership with charities that form the Age UK network: Age Cymru, Age NI, Age Scotland and Age UK.  The joint venture will see a range of cross promotional activity taking place which includes copies of The People’s Friend magazine being stocked in the charities’ shops.
The People’s Friend will be available to purchase in the charities’ shops when it begins to roll out from 17th September 2014.  A portion of the cover price of each copy will go direct to the charities.  The partnership follows a successful initial roll out period of six weeks in which Age UK stocked the magazine in 30 of its shops in England.
On sale Wednesday 27th August, the 30th August issue of The People’s Friend will feature a range of in-title editorial that draws on the Age UK network’s expertise in health and finance.  In addition to this The People’s Friend’s has dedicated its annual Love Darg appeal to the charities, with readers being invited to use their knitting and crochet skills to make items to donate to Age Cymru, Age NI, Age Scotland and Age UK.

Smiley Announces Senior Role Appointments

David FoxSmiley has appointed two new senior roles as the company continues its creative expansion plans.
David Fox will join as Head of Design, while Salvatore Zingrillo will join as Global Brand Director, Fashion.  
David has a wealth of licensing expertise having spent a number of years as a Creative Director at The Walt Disney Company's Consumer Products Division as well as sound design, retail and brand knowledge from senior creative fashion and marketing roles, including Vice President of Design at the The Gap's Old Navy Division in the US and as a Creative Marketing Director for Esprit's EDC Division in Germany. 
Salvatore Zingrillo  Salvatore has a full understanding of the young consumer market, having started his career at MTV, as well as experience in the global fashion and streetwear industry, having previously worked at Diesel. He joins Smiley from Sanrio, where he built successful brand strategies as EMEA Marketing Director, and developed Hello Kitty premium collaborations with the likes of Liberty, Barbour, KISS, Retrosuperfuture, Hydrogen, Moleskine, Rizzoli New York, KISS, DC Comics and Playboy for colette. 
Both roles will commence on September 1st and will be based at the Smiley head office in London.


Haven Partners with Artestar for Keith Haring and Others

ArtestarArtestar has appointed Haven Licensing to manage the licensing of their portfolio of art, design, and pop culture brands in Australia and New Zealand.
Based in New York, Artestar’s clients include Keith Haring, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Patricia Field, Jeremyville and Curtis Kulig amongst a plethora of other designers and artists. Internationally, the Artestar team have collaborated with a wide variety of labels and retailers, including Reebok, Uniqlo, Comme des Garcons, IKEA and Adidas. This new deal with Haven brings these opportunities to the ANZ market.

Representatives from Exceed Entertainment and The Wild East Group announced this week that the two companies will be merging, with immediate effect.  The Wild East Group will continue to operate independently within the Exceed Entertainment group of companies.
