Sesame Workshop launched Elmo’s #ShareTheLaughter Challenge, a social media campaign inspired by season 47 of Sesame Street. The culmination of a yearlong “Spread Kindness, Share the Laughter” initiative, the campaign encourages viewers to tell their favorite jokes in short videos, post them online, and tag friends to do the same.

In the kickoff video, comedian Kate McKinnon shared a joke with Elmo and challenged Cookie Monster to make a video of his own. Other celebrity participants include Josh Groban, Andy Grammer, Matt Lauer, Savannah Guthrie, Padma Lakshmi, and Drew Scott. Additional celebrities to be featured in future videos include Ilana Glazer, Kit Harington, Gwendoline Christie, Sophie Turner, Alessia Cara, Shaun White, Lindsay Vonn, and John Legend.

New videos and posts from the Sesame Street Muppets will roll out through September 30. Sesame Workshop’s content and distribution partners will also participate in the challenge, and Sesame Street’s social media channels will spotlight vintage sketches and songs. Snapchat will debut a new Sesame-themed filter, and laughing Elmoji stickers will be available for download for iPhone and Android devices.

IMG Renews Agreement with PepsiCo

PepsiCo has renewed its European licensing representation agreement with IMG for Pepsi, 7UP and Mountain Dew.
Since IMG started working with PepsiCo in 2015, the company’s licensee portfolio has grown to include nine new fashion apparel licensees, as well as licensees in beauty, giftware and stationery.
Over the past two years, PepsiCo licensed apparel products have been sold in fashion stores, including ASOS, Topshop, Primark and H&M with Poetic Brands; Bershka, BIK BOK and Besteller Group with Fipo Group; and Zara with Horizonte Galego.
Several new licensees will launch apparel collections in 2017, including a direct-to-retail license in Europe with Etam Group-owned retail chain Undiz and a collaboration with streetwear brand JunkYard in Italy and Scandinavia. In 2018, PepsiCo will launch apparel collections with Brand Design SA across Europe; Sabor SRL in Italy; Carbotex in Eastern Europe; and in LLP’s owned and operated retail stores across Eastern Europe.

Guru Studio Names Toy State as Master Toy Partner for Netflix Series

Guru Studios named Toy State as its master toy licensee for its Netflix Original preschool animated series, True and the Rainbow Kingdom. The deal was brokered by Guru's licensing agency, Brand Central.

Toy State will create a product line featuring figures, role play, plush, play sets, and dolls, marking a major expansion into new product categories as part of the company's overall global growth strategy.

True and the Rainbow Kingdom premiered globally on Aug. 11 on Netflix and is produced by Guru Studio in collaboration with Pharrell Williams' i Am Other, FriendsWithYou, and Home Plate Entertainment. The second season is currently in production and will launch early next year. The series follows 8-year-old True and her best friend Bartleby the cat, as they come to the rescue of Rainbow City’s whimsical citizens.

Toy State will provide an exclusive preview of the lineup inspired by the show to Fall Toy Preview attendees in October in Dallas. The first wave of products is set to hit shelves next fall.

New Flower Fairies Licensees Announced by Penguin Ventures Ahead of BLE

Penguin Ventures, part of Penguin Random House Ltd, has announced a raft of new licensees for Flower Fairies following the successful launch of a new style guide earlier this year.
Penguin Ventures set Andsome Creative Agency the brief of producing a series of design placements and patterns to showcase individual elements of the original illustrations which could then be utilised in a contemporary way on ranges of merchandise.
The new style guide references key trends in fashion and interior design and has had an exceptional response from licensees.   Existing licensees have renewed contracts including UK Greetings and Moonpig, whilst Enesco, who launched a gorgeous new homeware range in Spring, will be adding a new line of cake stands and figurines in Autumn this year.
Opportunities with new market sectors have been explored for the Flower Fairies with the signing of babywear company Children’s Salon.  This is the first time that the luxury clothing label will produce licensed apparel and their bespoke Flower Fairies range will be launched online for global distribution.
Robert James, creator of beautiful bronze and pewter garden sculptures, launched a range of exquisite Flower Fairies statues and figurines at the Chelsea and Hampton Court Palace Flower Shows this summer where they won a 4 star award for their stunning trade stand.
Other newly signed licensees for the Flower Fairies include The Gift Box Company who will be launching a new range of children’s stationery sets and first aid kits in the UK this year, whilst US licensee Creata has just launched a range of garden figurines and fairy doors for the US and Australian markets.

The LEGO Group Reveals Global Licensing and Merchandising Program for The LEGO Ninjago Movie

The LEGO Group and Warner Bros. Consumer Products (WBCP) revealed the licensing and merchandising program for The LEGO Ninjago Movie, including apparel, accessories, costumes, toys, publishing, stationery, party goods, and more. 

LEGO will launch more than 15 original construction sets inspired by the movie to let fans re-create scenes from the film, including the Spinjitzu Training Dojo, Ninjago City Chase, Master Falls, Manta Ray Bomber, “Garmadon, Garmadon, GARMADON!,” and the intricate Ninjago City. Additional building sets will feature new collectibles, including the Water Strider, Jelly Sub, Green Ninja Mech Dragon, Lightning Jet, Garma Mecha Man, Fire Mech, Ice Tank, Temple of the Ultimate Ultimate Weapon, and Destiny’s Bounty.

Walmart, Target, Toys “R” Us, and additional global retailers will support the movie with various programs, product displays, and all-inclusive ‘retailtainment’ offerings, including in-store events and exclusive products.

WBCP and The LEGO Group have partnered with Handcraft Manufacturing, SGI Apparel, Isaac Morris and Bioworld for ninja-inspired looks and designs. The companies also partnered with Clic Time for kid-friendly watches and clocks; Sakar for phone cases; Hallmark for greetings and gift presentation; Party City for party goods; and Franco Manufacturing for a new line of home décor that includes bedding; and more.

Also included are works from four tie-in publishers, DK Publishing, Scholastic, Ameet, and Blue Ocean. The movie tie-in program incorporates storybooks, readers, activity books, sticker books, magazines, junior novel, guidebook, and more.

The LEGO Ninjago Movie will be in theaters worldwide on Sept. 22. Products and programs inspired by the movie began rolling out last week and will be available at retailers around the world.

Technicolor, Merlin Entertainments Group Partner to Create Aquarium Experience for The Deep

Technicolor signed a cross-promotional agreement with Merlin Entertainments Group to create an interactive entertainment experience for the animated underwater adventure series The Deep at more than 20 aquariums in the UK and Germany. The events support the launch of the series’ second season, as well as a new mobile game. Technicolor is the rights holder to The Deep and has oversight for the brand overall. 

This month, DHX Interactive released The Deep: Sea of Shadows, the first mobile game based on the show. The game is available in the App Store and Google Play in multiple territories in English and German. In this action-adventure game, players help the Nektons unravel the mystery of a strange, dark ink corrupting the sea.

Technicolor manages The Deep’s licensing extensions with CPLG serving as the multi-territory licensing agent for the brand, including North America, Latin America, and Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA)—excluding Germany. Distribution is handled by DHX Media.

The Deep follows the adventures of the Nekton family—a brilliant team of underwater explorers. The Nektons explore the mysterious depths of the ocean, where most of our world lies unexplored and unexplained.

The series is based on the graphic novel series created by comic book author and playwright Tom Taylor, illustrated by James Brouwer, and published by Gestalt Comics. Taylor serves as co-creator and lead writer of the series, and Brouwer serves as co-creator and art director.

Playmobil to Debut at Autumn Fair

Playmobil will showcase its latest products at leading gift and homewares event Autumn Fair for the first time from 3-6 September.
With thousands of independent retailers and buyers from larger multiples using the event for inspiration ahead of Christmas and the major gifting dates in early 2018, Playmobil will present some of its most loved ranges, including Police, Pony Farm, Pirate and Knights in Hall 5 – Children’s Gifts, Toys & Gadgets. It will also display its popular collectable ranges of Figures, Special Plus, Playmo-Friends, Duo Packs and Carry Cases.

UK Licensing Awards 2017 to be Hosted By Katherine Ryan

Popular, high profile comedian Katherine Ryan is to host the UK Licensing Awards ceremony on Tuesday 12 September.
Katherine is a regular on leading panel shows, including Live At The Apollo, Would I Lie to You?, A League of Their Own and 8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown.  She fronted the factual entertainment series, How’d You Get So Rich?, which was a hit on Channel 4 and also co-hosted Your Face or Mine with Jimmy Carr for Comedy Central.
In addition, Katherine is only the second British-based comedian to have a Netflix Original Comedy Special released globally, Katherine Ryan: In Trouble, which was filmed at Hammersmith’s Eventim Apollo in February.
The Licensing Awards will take place on Tuesday 12 September when over 1,400 industry professionals, including licensors, licensees, retailers and industry suppliers will gather in The Great Room at the Grosvenor House Hotel, London find out this year’s winners.

Larkshead Media to Manage UK Licensing for CBeebies’ Numberblocks

Media services company Larkshead Media has been appointed by brand owner and creator Alphablocks Ltd to manage UK licensing for the hit CBeebies show Numberblocks.
Numberblocks is both a popular pre-school TV show and a revolutionary maths brand, using humour, inventive animation, delightful characters and engaging storylines to teach children under the age of six how to count, add, and understand how numbers really work.
Numberblocks already enjoys strong public recognition — but from this autumn the brand’s exposure will be further boosted when The National Centre for Excellence in the Teaching of Mathematics (NCETM) will be bringing Numberblocks resources to UK classrooms to aid the primary school teaching of maths.

Coolabi Appoints Hannah Stevens

Coolabi Group has announced the appointment of Hannah Stevens, who joins as its new Retail and Licensing Manager. Hannah will report into Director of Licensing, Valerie Fry.
As Retail and Licensing Manager, Hannah will focus on building retail partnerships and delivering bespoke retail promotions and product ranges across Coolabi’s portfolio of properties including Beast Quest, Clangers, Poppy Cat and Scream Street.
Hannah will also be responsible for identifying and developing licensing partners for various categories including publishing, gift, homewares and live events.
Hannah has over four years of experience in brand and retail management and joins Coolabi following her role as Business Development Manager - Retail at CPLG.  Hannah has recently been nominated for the LIMA UK Rising Star Award 2017.

I have 8 years experience of working for a large London Publishing house licensing book content to third parties. I am looking for a role which utilises my skills in negotiation and relationship building and can develop my experience within the licensing field.
