Warner Bros. Pictures, Hasbro’s Allspark Pictures, and Sweetpea Entertainment will launch a feature film franchise based on the Dungeons & Dragons role-playing game. Hasbro’s Brian Goldner and Stephen Davis, Sweetpea Entertainment’s Courtney Solomon and Allan Zeman and Roy Lee (The Lego Movie, How to Train Your Dragon) will produce the film.
Since 1974, Dungeons & Dragons has amassed millions of players and fans worldwide. Over the past four decades, the property has also influenced numerous writers, directors, game designers, and other creative professionals.
Solomon and Zeman will produce all Warner Bros.-produced Dungeons & Dragons film and TV productions, while future Dungeons & Dragons productions will be unified under Wizards of the Coast, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Hasbro.

Toys “R” Us to Launch New Star Wars Saga Products with Midnight Openings Worldwide

At 12:01 a.m. on September 4, aka Force Friday, Toys “R” Us will celebrate the debut of toys based on the next chapter of the Star Wars saga. Toys “R” Us locations worldwide, as well as, will transform into Destination: Star Wars with hundreds of new products, including those available exclusively at Toys “R” Us. On Force Friday, Toys “R” Us stores around the globe will open their doors for special midnight festivities, providing customers with the opportunity to be the first to purchase new Star Wars merchandise.
Families attending the midnight opening events will have the chance to receive special giveaways, including a limited edition LEGO Star Wars Commemorative Brick and an exclusive Star Wars poster. The biggest midnight opening celebration will take place at the company’s flagship store in New York City, Toys “R” Us Times Square, where fans are encouraged to come dressed as their favorite Star Wars characters and take part in dozens of activities designed for Star Wars aficionados.
Leading up to Force Friday, stores in each country will count down the minutes with digital clocks, as well as Star Wars-themed microsites on each of their respective e-commerce pages. Social media users will be able to follow the company’s worldwide midnight openings on each country’s social media channels, as well as using the Toys “R” Us U.S. Twitter channel, @Toysrus.

Sammy Hagar, Epic Rights, and PROMINENT Partner to Develop Global Brand Program for Sammy’s Island

Sammy Hagar has partnered with Epic Rights and PROMINENT Brand + Talent to launch a worldwide brand strategy and develop a wide-ranging licensing program for Hagar’s Sammy’s Island lifestyle brand. 
Sammy’s Island is described as a visual blend of the best of Cabo and Maui’s tropical, laid-back, lush, and vibrant patterns and colors that instantly transport consumers to the island life, albeit with a splash of Hagar’s rock ‘n’ roll sensibility. Products will be designed to embody the spirit of stress-free island-style living, in categories that will initially include outdoor furniture, electronics, food, entertaining, beach wear, footwear, table top, jewelry, and wall art, among others.
Todd Gallopo, CEO and creative director of creative branding and design agency Meat and Potatoes Inc., will spearhead the design of the brand.

Joester Loria expands Kellogg’s soft-lines program with MSA Apparel

In a deal brokered by The Joester Loria Group, Kellogg’s has partnered with MSA Apparel to offer a full line of young men’s and juniors’ fashion tops and fleece. The collection will incorporate Kellogg’s brand portfolio of Pop Tarts, Frosted Flakes, Froot Loops, Rice Krispies, and other iconic Kellogg’s brands and characters. The line will launch this fall across department, specialty, mid-tier, mass, and online accounts.

Hasbro Studios and Sony Music/Legacy Recordings to Release Truly Outrageous: A Jem and the Holograms Tribute

Hasbro Studios and Sony Music/Legacy Recordings will release a tribute album to Hasbro’s 1980s cult classic Jem and the Holograms on August 7, featuring modern renditions of hit tracks from Starlight Records’ Jem and the Holograms, The Misfits, and The Stingers.
The Truly Outrageous: A Jem and the Holograms Tribute is a contemporary salute to one of Hasbro’s most successful animated TV series of the 1980s. The digital-only album provides a showcase for some of today’s up-and-coming artists to perform new versions of 12 classic songs first heard during the 65-episode run of the Jem and the Holograms series. Surge Signs Astro Boy for Licensing Representation in North America

Surge Licensing Inc. will develop a licensing program for Astro Boyin North America. Astro Boy is a science fiction comic book series set in a futuristic world where robots co-exist with humans in their daily lives. Originally written and illustrated by Osamu Tezuka in 1952, the storyline follows the adventures of Astro Boy, a powerful robot who was invented by Doctor Tenma, who wanted to use the robot to replace his son Toby who died in a tragic car accident.
The first consumer products categories to be explored include apparel, accessories, gifts, collectible figures, Halloween costumes and masks, and social expression.
Astro Boy just completed a 2015 direct-to-retail T-shirt program with Uniqlo worldwide. Plans for an Astro Boy capsule collection with a soon-to-be-announced high-end fashion label are in the works for next year.

GBI Appoints NCircle Entertainment as Home Entertainment Partner for Llama Llama

Genius Brands International has named NCircle Enterainment as the exclusive home video partner for the new animated series Llama Llama. NCircle will distribute new animated content for the series across multiple platforms.
GBI partnered with Llama Llama author Anna Dewdney and publisher Penguin Young Readers to develop animated content based on the bestselling books. The company will also create a comprehensive line of licensed products, including toys, games, apparel, accessories, bedding, and healthy snacks and meals set to release next year.
Kids Preferred LLC has signed on as the toy partner for Llama Llama, and will develop a line of plush toys, puppets, and jack-in-the-boxes to launch at retail next year.

NBA, Marriott Partner to Take Fans #AroundtheWorld

Marriott International and the National Basketball Association have partnered to make the global lodging company the official hotel of several NBA events around the world, including the NBA Global Games 2015-16, NBA Africa Game 2015, and NBA Canada Series 2015. Marriott is the first company to partner with the NBA across international games on five different continents.
Spanning Marriott’s global portfolio of 19 brands, including The Ritz-Carlton, JW Marriott, Renaissance Hotels, Marriott Hotels, Protea Hotels, and AC Hotels, Marriott Rewards will host a series of private meet-and-greets with NBA legends and players for its Elite members and invite fans to take a virtual trip in the #AroundTheWorld photo and social sharing experience. The first Marriott Rewards NBA legends meet-and-greet will be co-hosted by The Protea African Pride Melrose Arch Hotel in Johannesburg.
Additionally, Marriott Rewards members in the U.S. can look for the opportunity to enter in an upcoming sweepstakes for a chance to win a trip and tickets to an upcoming NBA global event.

Saban Brands Appoints Rich Magallanes, SVP, Development and Production

Saban Brands has appointed Rich Magallanes as senior vice president of development and production. In this new role, Magallanes will drive Saban Brands’ content development and production for the company’s TV and entertainment properties, including Popples, Cirque du Soleil—Luna Petunia, and Emojiville, among others. Additionally, Magallanes will aide in the conception of new creative projects, forge new production partnerships, and identify and vet potential content acquisitions. Magallanes joins Saban Brands with more than 20 years of experience in domestic and international studio production, primarily at Nickelodeon. Most recently, Magallanes served as senior vice president of current series and production at Nickelodeon.
The current senior vice president of development and production Brian Casentini has been appointed to an enhanced and highly focused position of senior vice president of the Power Rangers franchise. In his new role, Casentini will manage all creative for Saban’s Power Rangers brand, serving as a producer on the upcoming live-action feature film franchise in partnership with Lionsgate and an executive producer of the iconic TV series.

Winx Club Returns to the U.S.

Winx Club is set to return to U.S. screens with new episodes beginning August 3 on the Nick Jr. channel. Winx Club follows the adventures of a group of young fairies, and combines action and adventure with comedy. The series combines family-friendly storylines, fashionable themes, and beautiful animation. The seventh season of Winx Club season 7 will roll out internationally this summer.

Uniqlo Launches Magic for All Campaign with Disney Consumer Products

Uniqlo has announced Magic for All, a global collaboration with Disney Consumer Products. The unique initiative will add a touch of Disney enchantment, Marvel action, Star Wars adventure, and Pixar creativity to everyday Uniqlo LifeWear fashions, as well as introduce new products, pop-up displays, and in-store and online customer experiences.
Through Magic for All, Uniqlo will extend its collaboration beyond the UT and sweat parka lines and introduce new LifeWear items beginning this fall. Products will range from ultra light down, fleece, and flannel shirts to umbrellas, plush toys, and other offerings featuring Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse. The line will then expand to include popular characters from Star Wars, Toy Story, Marvel’s Avengers and Disney Frozen.
In spring, Uniqlo will open its first store in the U.S. southeast at Disney Springs in Lake Buena Vista, Florida. This flagship store will house the brand’s assortment of Magic for All offerings for men, women, and children in a setting that captures the fantasy and magic of Disney.

Coolabi Group Signs Penguin Group USA for Clangers

Coolabi Group has announced a new Clangers deal with Penguin Group USA. Following the show’s successful launch on the U.S. 24-hour preschool network Sprout, Penguin Group USA will distribute a Clangers Picture Book with audio CD recording by U.S. TV series narrator William Shatner.
The book, which is expected to hit shelves in the U.S. and Canada next fall, adds to the major deal between Coolabi and Penguin UK, which is already signed as master publishing partner for Clangers worldwide, excluding U.S. and Canada.

Meredith Reports More Than 20 Percent Growth in Fiscal 2015 Earnings Per Share

Meredith Corp. reported fiscal 2015 earnings per share of $3.02, compared to $2.50 in the prior year, a 21 percent increase.
Excluding special items in both years, fiscal 2015 earnings per share were $3.30, compared to $2.80, an 18 percent increase. Fiscal 2015 revenues rose 9 percent to a record $1.6 billion, including 15 percent growth in advertising revenues.


Angry Birds 2 Launches Worldwide

Rovio has announced the Angry Birds 2, the first sequel to one of the most downloaded mobile game series of all time.
While retaining the slingshot format, the visuals and gameplay of Angry Birds 2 have been overhauled from the ground up, with multiple stages in each level and new spells – including blizzards, magic ducks and even hot chili peppers – to wield against the pigs, rock the Destruct-O-Meter and earn even more birds. Fans also can challenge other gamers worldwide and, for the first time, choose their own fowl to fling.
 “Design technology has evolved dramatically since the original game launched in 2009,” says Rovio co-founder Niklas Hed. “With Angry Birds 2 we wanted to bring a level of expressive depth and detail seen previously only in a console game or animated series – and create a new game that kids and adults alike won’t be able to put down.”

ITVS GE Adds New Classic Thunderbirds Partners Ahead of 50th Anniversary

As ITV Studios Global Entertainment (ITVS GE) gears up for the 50th anniversary of the TV series, Thunderbirds, in September, the licensor unveiled details of new partnerships to bolster the brand’s classic licensing program. ITVS GE is working with its partners to launch new lines of limited-edition products targeting collectors and fans of the original series.
In the UK and Eire markets, ITVS GE has signed 3D Online Factory for 3-D printable figurines and crafts, Winning Moves for a Thunderbirds Monopoly set, and Hornby for a die-cast vehicle collection. ITVS GE has signed Forbidden Planet for a direct-to-retail line of adult apparel, gifts, and accessories; and Tinamps for a portable speaker in a tin. Planet Replica will be unveiling TV show prop replicas worldwide.
In the publishing category, Octopus Publishing Group will launch three gifting books, while Panini will produce a 50th Anniversary classic Thunderbirds magazine for the UK and Eire.
Dreamtex will build homewares, Smiffys is on board for adult dress-up costumes, and Misirili has signed for adult socks. In Australia, a promotional deal with Leo Burnett Sydney will see the use of the Thunderbirds theme tune on TV, radio, and online for Woolworths.
These new partners join recently announced fashion collaborators such as Lou Dalton for high-end knitwear, Turnbull and Asser for luxury men’s silk handkerchiefs and neckties, and Fashion Lab for adult T-shirts, loungewear, and swimwear for the UK market.

Battersea Dogs & Cats Home Adds New Partners

Battersea Dogs & Cats Home announces a new partnership with Rapanui Clothing Ltd, who has created a range of adult and children’s tee shirts and hoodies for the animal charity. The range features new designs by Rapanui and also features artwork from illustrator Jason Chapman.
The Home has also announced a new partnership with, who will be donating 5% of sales from a bespoke Battersea product collection to the Home. is sponsoring the official rehoming pack, which is given to all new owners of a Battersea dog or cat and includes a catalogue of the chosen bespoke pet products. The Partnership also features stories of animals rehomed by Battersea Dogs & Cats Home and uses these remarkable dogs and cats to showcase products from the pet collection on the site.
The Home’s brand licensing programme is set to grow during 2015 and to help guide the growing number of licensees Battersea has engaged Doodlebug Design to work with them on a new style guide to be launched later in the year.

Clementoni Launches First UK TV Campaign

Clementoni has announced the launch of its first ever UK television advertising campaign.  The extensive and far-reaching campaign aims to generate and drive consumer awareness of the Baby Clementoni and Science and Play ranges. 
The Baby Clementoni and Science and Play ranges are core elements within Clementoni’s product portfolio for 2015 and 2016 with the former targeted at infants ten months +, and the latter targeted at an older age group of seven years+.
The Baby Clementoni advertisements are airing on prime slots on Channel 5’s Milkshake in addition to popular children’s channels Nick Junior, Nick Junior 2, Tiny Pop, Cartoonito, Disney Junior, Nick Junior and Nick Junior 2 in the Republic of Ireland. The Science and Play range advertisements are being shown on top rated channel CITV, Disney Channel, Disney XD, ITV[X], Nick, Nicktoons, Pop, Pop Girl and Kix.
Clementoni has further advertising campaigns due to run later in the year.

Phillippa Green to Join Golden Goose

Golden Goose has appointed experienced licensing professional Phillippa Green as their latest account director.
Phillippa has a broad range of licensing experience having been the National Trust’s Brand and Licensing Manager for the past 5 years developing new business and product ranges in a variety of categories including music, food & beverage, interiors, apparel, games and outdoor living.
Golden Goose’s Director, Adam Bass, said: “We are working on some exciting new projects that will play to Phillippa’s strengths and her ‘client-side’ insight will help us improve our processes and templates even further.”
Golden Goose are in discussions with a number of new clients that will benefit from Phillippa’s experience and in the meantime she will focus on adding licensees to RSPB licensing programme.

Sambro Signs for Bratz

Sambro has signed a pan-European licensing Bratz deal with MGA Entertainment.
The deal will see Sambro create a Bratz range that spans several categories including bags, arts and crafts and stationery.
The Bratz dolls have been relaunched 14 years after they first became a huge hit in the UK. Having been given a makeover, the original girls reflect current beauty and hair trends but still have the same characteristics which made them have such wide appeal.

Unilver and Kinnerton Launch Magnum Chocolate Range

Unilever UK has once again teamed up with Kinnerton to introduce a new and contemporary range of premium Magnum Chocolate, available to retailers from September 2015.
The partnership with Kinnerton will see Unilever UK’s one ice cream brand, Magnum, introduce a new and contemporary range of Magnum chocolates into the Premium Chocolate category.

Nutmeg Licensing Signs with Gallery Thea

Nutmeg Licensing has been appointed licensing agent to the Suffolk-based ceramics studio Gallery Thea.
Galley Thea will be working with Nutmeg Licensing to extend the reach of its distinctive designs through a new range of licensed products.  The agency agreement heralds a new stage in Gallery Thea’s development, with the initial focus on reaching a wider audience through licensed stationery and home products.  Preliminary discussions are already taking place with potential licensees, with approaches from other interested parties to be welcomed too.
Nutmeg Licensing’s June Kirkwood says “I’m thrilled to have the opportunity to introduce the Gallery Thea designs to a wider audience.  Thea’s whimsical illustrations evoke such a positive response and are already starting to attract the attention they deserve.”

Pukeko Pictures Announces Clive Spink as CEO

Pukeko Pictures has announced the appointment of Clive Spink as Chief Executive Officer.  He will replace Andrew Smith who will be leaving in August to take up the position of Chief Executive Officer of Touchtech.
Clive has been with Pukeko Pictures for over a year in the position of Chief Operating Officer.  He will take up the role of Chief Executive Officer from August 1 2015.  In his new role he will continue to drive Pukeko Picture’s business growth including its development and production momentum.
Clive brings to the role both a strong commercial background and broadcasting/production experience.  Prior to Pukeko Pictures his most recent roles were in the IT and telecommunications industries where he led the commercial team responsible for all of Vodafone New Zealand’s Enterprise customers.  He was also the Finance Director for Unisys New Zealand and also had time running their Australian commercial team. 
Clive’s broadcasting and production experience stems from time at Television New Zealand working for their local production company Kotuku Productions which produced iconic New Zealand brands including Fair Go, Country Calendar, Crimewatch and Holiday.  Following this Clive was the Commercial Manager at TVNZ’s TV One. 


First Official Betty Boop Online Store Launches in Japan

King Features has announced that the first official Betty Boop online store has launched in Japan by Myatt Inc., in a deal brokered by King’s agent, Copyrights Asia Ltd. 
King Features is the exclusive worldwide licensing agent for Betty Boop, working closely with Fleischer Studios to keep Betty entertaining millions of fans and collectors around the globe.
Myatt, an experienced operator of licensed e-tail stores, launched the site in conjunction with the publication of a special Betty Boop commemorative magazine published through Sanrio and Gakken. 
The store,, offers a variety of Betty Boop accessory, cosmetic and gift products from Sanrio and other Japanese licensees, including a selection of items from the new Betty Boop and Shinzi Katoh design and brand collaboration.

Boomerang Bounces into Malaysia on HyppTV

Boomerang, the global kids’ brand and companion channel to Cartoon Network, has launched in Malaysia on HyppTV with a two-month free preview available from August 1, 2015.
The channel is available in both English and Bahasa Malaysia, and is aimed at all kids aged 4-9 and their families. This year, audiences can expect a surge of new shows and episodes of familiar favourites with fresh, premium content from Warner Bros. Studios, including the recently-announced new series Wabbit and Bunnicula.
“Boomerang provides light-hearted and fun moments for a whole new generation of viewers with iconic characters. It is hugely popular content presented in a safe environment for both boys and girls to feel happy, relaxed and to laugh.
