DreamWorks Animation Introduces DreamPlace, a New Way to Celebrate the Holiday Shopping Season

DreamWorks Animation has launched DreamPlace, a holiday cottage that combines technology and storytelling with creative minds from franchises such as Shrek, Madagascar, and How to Train Your Dragon. DreamPlace reimagines the childhood tradition, Santa Claus, with an interactive experience to debut in a total of seven malls nationwide owned by General Growth Properties and Forest City Enterprises.

Families can make appointments through an app and go on an adventure with Shrek and his Friends as they guide children through the North Pole. DreamPlace will debut this holiday season in major markets nationwide, including New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Dallas, Atlanta, and Las Vegas.

FCP Announces Two New Live Shows

Ice AgeTwentieth Century Fox Consumer Products (FCP), in partnership with Iconic Entertainment Holdings LLC, will create new live entertainment spectaculars based on the animated films Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chipwrecked and Rio, from two of the studio’s animated film franchises.

The Alvin and the Chipmunks live show is projected to open next spring, and a Rio live show will follow in winter 2016 touring in cities worldwide. The creation of two new live entertainment shows is part of a growing focus for Fox to bring its stories and characters to life in new formats and through additional platforms.

The new shows will supplement FCP’s larger global location-based entertainment strategy and join Ice Age Live! A Mammoth Adventure, an original live entertainment spectacular. Nickelodeon, USAopoly Partner to Create Exclusive TMNT-Themed Monopoly Games

 

TMNTUSAopoly, under license from Hasbro Inc., and in conjunction with Nickelodeon, has produced two new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles-themed Monopoly games: Monopoly: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Edition and Monopoly: Teenage Mutant Turtles Collector’s Edition. The games will launch this fall and will be available in specialty stores across North America and Amazon.com.
 
The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Edition allows for fans to vie for 22 popular locations found throughout the animated series, including Antonio’s Pizza-Rama and Splinter’s Dojo, and six custom metal tokens including Kraang, Spike, Throwing Star, Pizza, Mutagen, and Shredder’s Mask. In the collector’s edition, players choose one of six custom sculpted vinyl tokens, including Leonardo, Raphael, Donatello, Michelangelo, Splinter, and Casey Jones, and then buy, sell, and trade notorious Turtle villains on the game board.
 

Sesame Street Celebrates 45th Anniversary

Sesame Workshop launches Sesame Street’s 45th season on PBS KIDS September 15. A bonus half-hour program that will air on weekday afternoons and weekend mornings, complementing the regular weekday one-hour series, also debuts in September.
 
Sesame Street’s new afternoon and weekend program on PBS KIDS will offer families more access to the series. Each half-hour episode is a shortened version of each one-hour program and will include a “Street Story,” a “Word on the Street” segment, a celebrity vocabulary segment, songs, spoofs, letter/number dance breaks, and popular segments such as “Cookie’s Crumby Pictures” or “Super Grover 2.0.” In addition to airing on PBS stations, selected episodes of the 30-minute show will also be available for free online at pbskids.org/video, on the PBS KIDS Video App, on Apple TV, and on the PBS KIDS Roku channel.
 
Celebrities and headline makers are featured in the new season, including First Lady Michelle Obama, Academy Award-winning and nominated actors Viola Davis, Jonah Hill, Sir Ian McKellen, and Lupita Nyong’O; Golden Globe-winning and nominated actors Emily Blunt, Zach Braff, Claire Danes, Tina Fey, Jane Krakowski, and Emmy Rossum; as well as many more.

Pixowl, Paws Inc. Sign Agreement for Original Garfield Mobile Game

Pixowl has partnered with Paws Inc. to develop an original simulation mobile game featuring Garfield for iOS and Android. The new game will feature an original storyline reflective of Garfield’s passion for food and characters from the Garfield universe.

Hasbro Reveals Project Tango with Google at Comic-Con International
 

TransformersAt Comic-Con International: San Diego last week, Hasbro unveiled its collaboration with Google on a new Transformers device, which utilizes Google’s Project Tango technology. The new Project Tango: Transformers collaboration offers an augmented reality experience, in which an interactive, virtual Optimus Prime towers above the user. The new 7-inch tablet contains specialized cameras for tracking the full 3-D motion of the device, as well as integrated depth sensing for capturing the geometry of the environment. The new NVIDIA Tegra K1 processor powers the tablet.

Dynamite Signs Ron Marz to 
John Carter: Warlord of Mars Series

Dynamite Entertainment announces a new chapter in the history of Edgar Rice Burroughs’ creation, John Carter: Warlord of Mars, to be written by Ron Marz. Illustrated by Abhishek Malsuni, John Carter: Warlord of Mars is the newly minted cornerstone of the publisher's Warlord of Mars line, launched in the wake of a comprehensive licensing agreement between Dynamite and Edgar Rice Burroughs Inc.


 
Dynamite’s John Carter: Warlord of Mars comes on the heels of the reacquisition of comic book rights by Edgar Rice Burroughs Inc. that had been held by Walt Disney Pictures and its Marvel Entertainment subsidiary, as well as a recent legal settlement with Dynamite that cleared the way for Dynamite to introduce key characters and plot elements from the John Carter back story that were absent from recent comic book interpretations.
 
John Carter: Warlord of Mars No. 1 will be solicited in Diamond Comic Distributors’ September Previews catalog and slated for release in November. John Carter: Warlord of Mars will also be available for individual customer purchase through digital platforms courtesy of Comixology, iVerse, and Dark Horse Digital.

First Full-Length Companion Novel for Reign Hits Shelves September 23

CBS Consumer Products and Poppy will release a new, full-length novel based on The CW’s original series Reign on September 23. The book Reign: The Prophecy, looks at what happens to the characters following last May’s season finale. The novel will be available in both paperback and eBook.

Guru Studio Enters Game Arcade

Guru Studio has established Guru Arcade, a key new interactive venture dedicated to developing high-quality original digital IP as well as producing engaging brand extensions for existing television series.
 
Guru Arcade’s initial focus is developing an all-new original gaming IP, as well as immersive 3D games for Dinopaws, the new preschool series recently launched on Treehouse and CBeebies.
 
Guru Arcade is headed by Design Director Ben Stirling and Producer Gareth Elliott, two creative executives with a wealth of experience in the industry. Prior to joining the company, Stirling was a senior level game designer at Ganz while Elliott brings experience in video game, film, and TV animation from industry leaders, including Ubisoft among others. Guru’s new interactive division helps cement the studio’s focus on delivering high quality, end-to-end entertainment, with a particular concentration on creating original content for and from any platform.

The Moomins Come to Covent Garden for Tove Jansson’s Birthday

One hundred years ago, Tove Jansson, the creator of the Moomins, was born. A number of UK venues, such as the Institute of Contemporary Arts and the Polka Children’s Theatre have been staging special events, shows, and readings, all culminating in Moomin Summer Fun, a big Moomin party in Covent Garden.
 
On August 9 and 10, Moomin fans are invited to London’s Covent Garden for a weekend of fun, music, stories and more. Children’s writer Philip Ardagh, the name behind the incredibly popular Eddie Dickens books, will be reading excerpts from some of his favourite Moomin books to a live audience. Benny Törnroos, will also be among the guests appearing during the weekend. There will also be a Moomin puppet performance of selections and songs from the Polka Theatre’s popular Moomin Summer Madness show, as well as face painting and some personal appearances by the Moomins themselves.

Deer Little Forest Partners with T-Shirt Booth, Timbergram

Deer Little ForestDeer Little Forest has signed its first apparel deal with Digital Giving’s T-Shirt Booth and a wooden greeting card deal with Timbergram. The deals support ecologically oriented charities, The Woodland Trust and Tree Aid, respectively.
 
The T-Shirt Booth will feature a selection of four Deer Little Forest designed in its online store, also accessible through a free app. Every purchased T-shirt contributes £2 The Woodland Trust, which aims to protect ancient woods, restore damaged ones, and create new native woodlands in the UK. Timbergram will support Tree Aid by planting a tree for every 10 woodland postcards its sells. 

Top Gear Track Experience Launches

Brandscape has announced the announce the launch of the Top Gear Track Experience, based at Dunsfold Park, home of the Top Gear television studio and test track. The Top Gear Track Experience includes driving activities based on features seen on the TV show, which means that guests – including individuals and corporate groups – can have a go at being the Star in a Reasonably Priced Car.
 
The exclusive license has been awarded by BBC Worldwide to TGXP Ltd and the event programme has been developed by Brandscape’s team of driving experience specialists. It will open to the public on 27th August and events will be held throughout the year. 
 
Vivien Kaliczak, Account Director of Brandscape Group, said: "The brief from BBC Worldwide was to enable individuals and corporate guests to take part in familiar activities from the ever popular TV show, maintaining the unique brand values of Top Gear. As such, these will not be conventional track days but will see guests driving 4x4s around a specially built course while being fired upon by a tank, having their faces distorted by high performance Ariel Atoms and learning stunt driving in a Hot Hatch Challenge."

Six New Signings for The Clangers 

ClangersCoolabi Group has secured six new UK licensees for its forthcoming stop-frame series, Clangers. Launching in Spring 2015 on CBeebies, the property is now licensed with magazine publisher, Immediate Media Co, apparel supplier, C&M Licensing, wheeled toy specialist, MV Sports & Leisure Limited, greeting cards & gift wrap publisher, Gemma International Ltd, children's bag supplier, Trade Mark Collections and costume character creators, Rainbow Productions.
 
Valerie Fry, Director of Sales at Coolabi, says, "We are delighted to welcome such a respected and diverse range of new licensees to the Clangers' portfolio. Their fantastic reputations and quality product development add to the excitement building for our newest pre-school property. With Character Options and Penguin already announced, Clangers is going from strength to strength."
 
Immediate Media will launch Clangers in compilation titles in 2015, followed by a stand alone magazine in Spring 2016.

Deer Little Forest Pens Apparel and Wooden Greeting Card Deals

Deer Little ForestDeer Little Forest creator Jo Rose has announced a first apparel deal with Digital Giving’s T-Shirt Booth and a wooden greeting card deal with Timbergram, which support the ecologically oriented charities, The Woodland Trust and Tree Aid, respectively.
 
Grant Morgan, co-founder of Digital Giving, said “We’re absolutely delighted to see the Deer Little Forest joining a host of other children’s favourite characters in this digital fundraising product range.”
 
Deer Little Forest has also been licensed by Timbergram, a wooden greeting card and art print company. Founded in February 2012 and based in London, Timbergram sell their products across the UK, mainland Europe and around the world. As part of its ethos, Timbergram supports the organization Tree Aid, planting a tree for every ten postcards it sells.

LIMA UK Names Its UK Rising Stars Award Winner

LIMALIMA has named Christine Thomas, Senior Licensing Executive at Entertainment One UK as the winner of its inaugural UK Rising Stars Award. The award ceremony took place on the evening of 24th July at LIMA UK’s annual Young Professionals Network party, hosted at the offices of Mind Candy in East London and sponsored by Dependable Solutions.
 
LIMA UK’s Rising Stars Award is designed to support and champion excellence among upcoming junior licensing industry professionals. Thomas will receive one year of mentorship from LIMA UK Managing Director Kelvyn Gardner - to include four career development meetings - and the Rising Stars trophy.

Select Group Gets Sneak Peek at Cartoon Network Amazone 

Beginning in August, a select group of people will have a first chance to visit the new Cartoon Network Amazone water park in Thailand. During this pre-opening period, invited guests and annual pass holders will be the only members of the public to sample the world’s first Cartoon Network-themed water park. The grand opening for the park is scheduled for the end of the year.
 
The park will feature water coasters, live music shows, and ten entertainment zones that will bring fans closer to Cartoon Network characters like Ben 10, Adventure Time, The Powerpuff Girls, Johnny Bravo, and more.
