Univision Announces Sesame Amigos, Sesame Street’s First Spanish-Language Show Made for U.S. Audiences

Sesame Amigos is a new 30-minute, Spanish-language show produced by Sesame Workshop exclusively for Univision. The first season of Sesame Amigos premieres August 1 at 8:30 a.m. ET/PT (7:30 a.m. Central) in the Saturday children’s programming block “Planeta U.”
 
Sesame Amigos will launch with 26 new episodes designed to help kids build their inner strength, develop their moral compass, and learn important educational lessons. In each show, kids will play learning games and get up and dance with Elmo, who will encourage kids to participate throughout the show. They’ll travel to “The Furchester Hotel,” a segment featuring Elmo, Cookie Monster, and new friends that teaches creative problem solving and teamwork. They’ll explore far off lands and learn about cooperation in “Bert and Ernie’s Great Adventures.” Finally, they’ll laugh out loud with Cookie Monster, the star of “Cookie’s Crumby Pictures,” who proves that patience takes practice.
 
Each show will also feature a segment where Elmo, Lola, Rosita, and friends interact with a Univision celebrity in a fun setting, including Sal y Pimenta hosts Carlos Calderon and Lourdes Stephen, Primer Impacto correspondents Tony Dandrades and Jackie Guerrido, Despierta América’s Maity Interiano and William Valdez, and Univision Deportes’ Pablo “La Torre de Jalisco” Ramirez. In addition to Univision talent, the show will feature other Hispanic celebrities, such as Vahdir Derbez, Diego Luna, and Leslie Grace.

Genius Brands Expands Psycho Bunny Throughout North America

Genius Brands International (GBI) and its wholly owned subsidiary, A Squared Entertainment, have signed two top-tier licensees for the luxury fashion apparel and lifestyle brand Psycho Bunny, continuing to expand the brand into new product categories beyond its core apparel. Timepiece distributor Zeon America and Idea House, which designs, develops, sells, and markets products across a portfolio of owned and licensed brands, including CURATED Idea Merchants Unlimited, join the growing roster of licensees for the Psycho Bunny brand.
 
Idea House will manufacture a line of chino-styled pants and shorts in a variety of colors, as well as jeans using denim from Italy in classic and slim styles. Zeon America will create Psycho Bunny-branded timepieces infused with custom cases, genuine calfskin straps, eye-catching solid stainless steel bracelets, and cutting-edge quartz movements. Both new product lines are anticipated to debut at retailers next spring.

GBI continues to actively seek partners around the world to expand the Psycho Bunny brand into additional product lines, including outerwear, woven shirts, active wear and athleisure, bags and luggage, women’s and children’s active wear, accessories, fragrance, electronics, and more.
 
GBI is also further developing the brand internationally and seeking partners, particularly in Asia and Latin America, to complement the Psycho Bunny programs currently in these territories. The company recently signed an agreement with Itochu for luxury accessories in Japan and with Neroli Group SA as the brand’s core Latin America sportswear distributor.
 

LIMA Annual Global Licensing Industry Survey Now Available

The International Licensing Industry Merchandisers’ Association’s (LIMA) first annual Global Licensing Industry Survey is now available for digital download. Commissioned by LIMA and conducted by Brandar Consulting, LLC, the survey provides detailed breakdowns, quantifying worldwide royalty revenue and corresponding retail sales by product category, property type, and geographical region. It also identifies the latest trends and offers forward-looking analysis of the $241.5 billion global licensing business.
According to the report, the market for products bearing the trademarked names and likenesses of cartoon characters, corporate logos and brands, major sports teams, and more generated an estimated $13.4 billion in royalty revenues on $241.5 billion in retail sales in 2014.

By category, the licensing industry continues to be dominated by five major sectors: Character & Entertainment, Corporate Trademarks, Sports, Fashion, and Collegiate. Together, they represented 89 percent of all licensing revenues in 2014. Character & Entertainment, by far the most dominant category with more than $107 billion, accounting for 44 percent in retail sales, was more than double the next highest category, Corporate Trademark ($53 billion, 22 percent). Fashion, with $29 billion in estimated retail sales or 12 percent of the total, was third, followed by Sports ($26 billion, 11 percent), Publishing ($12 billion), Collegiate ($4.6 billion), Celebrity ($3.3 billion), and Music ($2.3 billion).

Epic Rights Promotes Poulsen to VP of Artist Digital Media & Brand Development

Dell Furano, CEO of Epic Rights, has announced the promotion of Jesper Poulsen to vice president of artist digital media and brand development. Poulsen, who has more than a decade of experience in artist brand development, licensing, product development, and digital media, previously held the post of executive director, artist and brand development and continues to report directly to Furano.
 
In his new position, Poulsen will develop digital strategies to increase fan engagement that results in maximizing revenue across core sectors of artists’ business handled by Epic Rights, including official websites, e-commerce, fan experiences, VIP ticketing, and social media. Poulsen will continue to identify, prospect, structure, negotiate, and secure strategic partnerships on behalf of artists such as AC/DC, KISS, Aerosmith, John Lennon, Def Leppard, Billy Idol, Woodstock, CBGB, and more.

Lawless Entertainment Appointed North American Representatives for Eddie Is a Yeti

Lawless Entertainment has been appointed as representatives for North America for Eddie is a Yeti, a property created by Toon Goggles, for licensing, merchandising, and publishing.

Eddie is a Yeti is Toon Goggles' first entry into original content and merchandising and will be produced with Mondo TV, which will handle overseas distribution and merchandising. The animated short-form children’s series follows the adventures of Eddie the yeti and his best friend, Polly. Its non-dialogue format easily allows for a worldwide audience, targeted toward kids ages 6 to 12.
 
Eddie is a Yeti will be promoted across the Toon Goggles platform, appearing on its iOS and Android applications for smartphones and tablets, as well as on Sony, Sharp, and Samsung smart TVs, Roku set-top boxes, and other devices.

My Gym Children’s Fitness Center Partners with Kid II’s Oball

My Gym Children’s Fitness Center has entered into a strategic partnership with Kids II’s Oball product line. The agreement will result in incorporation of the children’s toy into My Gym’s fitness curriculum. The three-month program applies to My Gym locations across the U.S. and Canada.
 
My Gym’s Head of Global Alliances Mary M. Mueller, and Kids II’s Head of Brand Development Alyson Grubard brokered the brand partnership.

Best Accessory Group Adds Debra Valencia Brand

Designer brand Debra Valencia has announced a new licensing deal with Best Accessory Group Inc. The Debra Valencia brand is a California lifestyle brand appealing to modern women who love style, fashion, and femininity.
 
“Debra Valencia is an incredible designer and her colorful prints and bold patterns are a perfect complement to our products. She has already proven her success at retail and we are looking to expand the product offerings and channels of distribution,” says Jack Saban, president of Best Accessory Group.

Licensing Awards 2015 Finalists Announced

The Licensing Awards 2015 finalists have been announced. The awards will be held on Tuesday 15th September 2015, in The Great Room at The Grosvenor House Hotel, Park Lane, London.
 
Approaching 5,000 licensed products were entered into the Product Awards this year. The Judging Panel comprised of almost 100 top retail buyers, including those from Sainsbury’s, Argos, Primark, Claires, Toys R Us, Tesco, Mothercare, Poundland, Boots, The Entertainer, Forbidden Planet, Lakeland, Asda, Mothercare, Matalan, BHS, Paperchase, Paulton’s Park, Blue Inc, Oliver Bonas, River Island, Lloyds Pharmacy and Rymans.

Disney•Pixar’s Inside Out Tops UK Box Office

Disney•Pixar’s latest animation, Inside Out opened to the number one spot at the UK box office this weekend in the largest number of cinemas ever for a UK release. Inside Out is set to take an estimated £7m during its opening weekend playing in more cinemas across the country than films such as Jurassic World, Minions, The Dark Knight Rises and Skyfall. The film has already taken $550m at the global box office following its record breaking opening in the U.S.
 
Directed by BAFTA and Academy Award winner Pete Docter (Monsters, Inc., Up) and produced by Jonas Rivera, p.g.a. (Up), Inside Out has been praised by critics, receiving five-star reviews from The Times, Daily Telegraph and The Independent, among others, and being hailed as the film which defies the conventions of family movies.
 
In addition to the number one slot Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures has also landed the second spot in the chart with Marvel’s Ant-Man beating out the competition to take home a super-sized £2.3m. The results mean that Disney has over a 53% hold on the entire UK box office this weekend. Ant-Man also held onto its US number one spot and has taken $226.5m globally to date.

LIMA Announces Rising Stars Award Winner

The United Kingdom office of the International Licensing Industry Merchandisers’ Association (LIMA) announces that Matthew Glynn of the Football Association has been named named its second annual UK Rising Star. The Award ceremony took place at LIMA UK’s annual Young Professionals Networking event in London.
 
The LIMA UK Rising Stars Award is designed to support and champion excellence among junior licensing industry professionals. Glynn will receive one year of mentorship from LIMA UK Managing Director Kelvyn Gardner. “I look forward to working with Matthew, who has shown a commitment to and passion for the UK licensing industry as well as demonstrating innovation, initiative and leadership in his career to date,” said Gardner. “It is also great to celebrate sports licensing with our young professionals and we’re really pleased to be able to recognize and support such talent in our industry.” “I am absolutely delighted to win the LIMA Rising Star Award having only recently stepped into a managerial role at The FA. Goodyear Spring/Summer 2016 Vintage Series Clothing at Panorama in Berlin

Goodyear showcased its Spring/Summer 2016 Vintage Series Clothing at the Panorama Trade Show in Berlin.
  
The line focuses on the brand’s past through retro/vintage typography and racing inspired imagery synonymous with Goodyear’s Americana style.

Brand and Deliver Signs Deal for Big Yellow Bass Bus Tour

Brand & Deliver has secured a partnership between Micro Scooters and campus clothing brand American Freshman, in support of the latter’s 2015 Big Yellow Bass Bus Tour of the UK this summer.
 
Running from now until late October, the tour will take in multiple destinations including Thorpe Park, Jamie Oliver’s Big Feastival, The Cereal Killer Café in Brick Lane and six UK university campuses: Exeter, Nottingham, UWE in Bristol, Birmingham, Lancaster and Leeds. A pop-up store will enable visitors to buy the latest American Freshman apparel, while a live DJ draws in the crowds.
 
Micro Scooters will be provided to American Freshman staff, giving them a quick way to move around each event as well as creating a sense of theatre. They will also be offered as prizes in a ‘Battle of the DJs’ competition to support DJ Yoda in a gig at Thorpe Park, run through social media channels.
 
Brand & Deliver won the brief to secure and manage brand partnerships for Scooters in May this year. This partnership forms part of a wider 12-month campaign promoting scooting as a fun, quick and healthy way for adults to get around.

Rainbow Productions Crowned Champions of The Light Fund Treasure Hunt 2015

Rainbow Productions have held onto their crown as winners of The Light Fund 2015 Treasure Hunt for the second year running.
 
The event, which took place last Thursday evening (July 16th), raised over £8,000 for the charity.
 
Over 300 people from the licensing industry put their brains into gear and followed a route around London’s Mayfair (while taking in some of its finest hostelries) to compete in the annual event which culminated at The Institute in Piccadilly.
 
"Last week’s Treasure Hunt was another hugely successful event and the main, everyone did really well answering the questions and completing the challenges.” Commented Ashley Holman (of Nickelodeon) who, together with Hannah Mungo (eOne) and Robyn Cowling (Underground Toys) were the main organisers of the event.

Magazine Launch for Inazuma

The Inazuma brand is extending with the launch of official magazine, Inazuma Eleven Go’.
 
The review is directed towards a youth and infant audience, and focuses on the second term of the saga Inazuma Eleven Go, compounded by 141 Chapters and actually aired in Spain by Boing and Disney XD.
 
Published Axel Springer, the magazine will be out every two months.

Boj Makes a Splash on the Big Screen

Pesky Productions has announced that its series Boj is making the move to the big screen with three 11-minute summer episodes showing back to back at all 21 Picturehouse cinemas throughout the UK during weeks commencing 27th July and 14th September.
 
Boj made his first cinema appearance at Picturehouse Cinemas in his own exclusive "Toddler Time" session with a rare screening of the special 22-minute episode Adventure Camp on 29th June generating an enthusiastic response.  He will now continue to please audiences nationwide with two more appearances on the big screen.
 
David Hodgson, Director of Pesky Productions, commented: “We are delighted to see Boj now appearing on the big screen and are very grateful for Picturehouse for working together with us on this project. The show has proved extremely popular on CBeebies which has catapulted us into this fantastic position where parents can now take their children out of the house to see their favourite bilby on the big screen.”

Nevision Boosts Creative Team

Nevision has announced that executives Nigel Pickard and Sharon Bloom are working with the London-based company which specialises in the development, production and international exploitation of high end television drama and non-scripted programming.
 
Nigel is joining the Nevision Board, working with the founding team which includes CEO James Cabourne alongside industry executives Neil Zeiger, Keith Evans and Tim Buxton.
 
Nigel joins Nevision with a wealth of experience in international television. He was most recently CEO of UK Kids and Family and CEO of Zodiak Middle East, Asia and Australasia, following Zodiak’s acquisition of RDF Media. Prior to that, Nigel held senior broadcasting positions within the UK industry as Director of Programmes at ITV and Controller of Children’s at the BBC. His career has included roles in production as a film editor, director and producer. Nigel is a senior executive and Board member of Dial Square 86 and President of new on-line distribution platform TRX.
 
Sharon Bloom has worked as both a Producer and Executive Producer for BBC and ITV and has a track record in producing award-winning dramas including Peak Practice, Sweet Medicine, Anybody’s Nightmare, Murder in Suburbia and Margery and Gladys. Most recently, Sharon has produced the last three seasons of Silent Witness, consistently one of the BBC’s highest rated series. She will be developing a significant slate of high end drama projects for the global market.

Licensing Specialists Complete 2015 Trailwalker Challenge

Jane Garner from Licensing specialist PR company Kilogammedia and Sam Loveday were amongst a group of eight friends who took on the 2015 Trailwalker Challenge on the weekend of 25th/26th July. The course is an epic 100k or 62.5 miles from Petersfield to Brighton across the hilly South Downs. It’s the equivalent of walking non-stop from London to Portsmouth or doing nearly 21/2 marathons back to back covering an overall ascent equivalent to climbing Ben Nevis, Snowden and Scarfell!
 
Registered as two teams of four, the eight walkers were raising money for the Trailwalkers' two official charities, Oxfam and The Gurkha Welfare Trust.
 
Explains Jane, 'The walk was incredible, it was  exhausting, exhilarating and  frustrating in fact  there wasn't an emotion we didn't go through in the 25 hours that it took us - five hours short of the maximum 30 hours allowed. The hills looked unsurmountable at times but step by step we made it. We were rewarded by incredible scenery, great camaraderie amongst the 418 teams that entered and of course a huge feeling of achievement when the end eventually came. The downside is of course aching limbs and pretty impressive blisters'. She adds 'I really like to thank all those industry friends and colleagues who were kind enough to sponsor us and to the boys from the Sockmine who sent us all fantastic hiking socks which I wore much of the way round and can now boast flawless feet'.

Winx Club Joins The Battle Against Breast Cancer

Rainbow has teamed up with the Pink Ribbon Wellness Foundation in Malaysia and the Breast Cancer Foundation in Singapore to support the campaign to prevent breast cancer.
 
The long-term partnerships will see Winx Club promote the breast health message through a host of activities, which will include advertising campaigns and an exclusive range of merchandise. The Winx fairies themselves will also be involved, making appearances at special events aimed at both mums and daughters.
All activities are dedicated to raising awareness of breast cancer prevention and include local events across both Malaysia and Singapore. Kids will connect with the message and encourage mums to check their breasts and potentially stop cancer in its tracks
 
The huge profile of Winx Club, which reaches millions of girls from 4 to 10 right up to tween/teen, will ensure that mums across the region see and connect with the vital message of Pink Ribbon and the Breast Cancer Foundation.
