Hasbro Acquires Boulder Media Animation Studio

Hasbro Inc. has acquired Boulder Media, an Irish animation company based in Dublin. Boulder has produced a variety of series for Cartoon Network, Nickelodeon, Disney, and BBC.
As a wholly owned subsidiary, Boulder will continue to produce animated series on behalf of third-party clients, in addition to producing animation projects for Hasbro's best-known brands. Terms of the transaction, which closed on July 13, were not disclosed.
Founded in 2000 by Robert Cullen, Boulder is one of the fastest growing animation studios in Ireland with approximately 150 employees. Boulder will retain its brand and report to Stephen Davis who leads Hasbro's entertainment and consumer products licensing division.

Celebrating 150 Years of Beatrix Potter

2016 has been an incredible year for Penguin Ventures (part of the Penguin Random House Group) who, together with licensing agency Silvergate Media, manage the Beatrix Potter brand.   Throughout 2016 key partners and licensees have been encouraged to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the birth of Beatrix Potter, one of the world’s best-loved children’s authors and a pioneer of licensing.  Peter Rabbit is the oldest licensed literary character, a programme that Beatrix herself launched following the success of her The Tale of Peter Rabbit, which published in 1902.
Through a series of announcements, celebratory partnerships and commemorative merchandise Penguin Ventures and Silvergate Media have offered an insight to the woman who’s legacy has left a lasting impact on so many both in the UK and around the world.
Following the release of the Beatrix Potter coin in January, The Royal Mint released a range of special edition coins featuring four of Potter’s best-loved characters. 
Mothercare initially developed a range of Peter Rabbit clothing, toys, bedding and gifts to celebrate anniversary throughout 2016.  The range has succeeded all expectations with clothing and toys having performed the strongest.  New development and designs on clothing are planned for 2017 and Mothercare have doubled their orders for Autumn 2016, whilst dedicated room set displays will be in store to promote bedding for the same period.
Gund, Wedgewood and The Royal Mail are among the many other licensees releasing product throughout the year.

Mattel Named Master Toy Licensee for Jurassic World

NBCUniversal Brand Development named Mattel Inc. the worldwide master toy licensee for Jurassic World beginning in July 2017. Under the terms of the deal, Mattel will design, produce, and bring to market a range of toys and consumer products inspired by the franchise and its feature films, including the next, which is set for release in 2018.
Mattel’s license rights include a wide variety of products, including action figures, play sets, vehicles, games, plush, role-play, preschool, and activity toys, amongst others. Mattel and NBCUniversal will begin to design and develop new lines immediately, with initial products hitting shelves in early 2018.

Dreamtex Launches Glow in the Dark Ghostbusters Bedding

Dreamtex has launched its latest bedding collection, inspired by the brand new Ghostbusters movie which was released this week. The classic design features glow in the dark printing, creating an outline of the iconic logo. Washmitts and cushions complete the range.
Andrew Downie, Commercial Director said: “The team are delighted to be part of this fresh take on the classic comedy.”

Just Play Signs on as Master Toy Partner for Floogals in the U.S. and Canada

Just Play was named the master toy partner for Floogals, Zodiac Kids Studios’ animation series for the U.S. and Canada. Brand Activation Consulting helped secure the deal, as the consumer products agents for Floogals in the U.S. The 52 x 11-minute series launched on Sprout earlier this year. 

Floogals has sold to Discovery Kids (Latin America), TVO & Knowledge Network (Canada), Hop! Channel (Israel), Spectrum Film (Indonesia), RTV (Malaysia), YLE (Finland), Canal Panda (Portugal), and MBC (Middle East). 

Floogals is a mix of photo real CGI and live action for preschool TV and is a story about
pocket-sized aliens Fleeker, Flo, and Boomer on an adventure to explore earth.

Zodiak Kids owns worldwide distribution and licensing rights to Floogals. Discovery Kids represents the licensing rights in Latin America.

Panini Extends Contract with m4e for Mia and Me

m4e and Panini have signed a new three-year contract for Mia and Me, for the German-speaking territories.
In renewing their longtime and successful cooperation on the TV series for three more years until 2020, the contract includes the monthly Mia and Me magazine and additional special magazine issues, sticker and sticker albums, trading cards as well as tattoos for the German-speaking territories. In 2011, Panini was among the very first licensees for m4e’s own production and already extended its contract in 2015 due to the continuous success of the brand and its products.

Smiley Partners with Bestseller in China

Smiley has partnered with fashion group Bestseller to launch a new apparel range across selected stores in China. The Selected x Smiley collection for men and women fuses the iconic Smiley face with a minimalistic chic style, featuring sweatshirts, graphic tees, pattered polos, and Smiley embossed dresses.
Selected has also created an exclusive Smiley look book that showcases Smiley’s signature style through photography and has launched promotional video to share across digital platforms.
Bestseller Fashion Group China is one of China’s leading fashion retailers, operating more than 6,800 stores in more than 300 cities across China, featuring brands such as Jack & Jones, Only, Vero Moda, and Selected.

The Entertainer Comes to Northern Ireland

The Entertainer has announced that it will be opening its first store in Northern Ireland on Saturday 13th August. The new flagship store, which will cover 3,400 Sq. Ft., will be located in the CastleCourt Shopping Centre in Belfast.
In addition to creating new jobs in the area, the shop will provide more choice for families shopping at the popular centre. Children stepping into The Entertainer will be transported into a world of wonder, surrounded by all their favourite toys plus friendly staff who will be on hand to help guide families around the new store.
The grand opening will have special appearances from both Lego’s Ninjago’s Kai and Lloyd, as well as The Entertainer’s very own Jack throughout the day. Turner Asia Pacific Seals Partnership with Globe Telecom to Launch Cartoon Network on Mobile

Turner Asia Pacific and Globe Telecom will launch two upgraded Cartoon Network apps, which will soon be available to Globe customers.
An authenticated version of the Cartoon Network Watch and Play app unlocks its full functionality, including a live stream of the channel and additional video-on-demand (VOD) content. Cartoon Network Anything will also be bundled, showcasing the network’s best short-form content on mobile devices.

The Fred Rogers Co. Partners with Vroom for Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood

Vroom, an initiative of the Bezos Family Foundation, has teamed up with The Fred Rogers Co. on a sponsorship of the PBS Kids animated series Daniel Tigers Neighborhood.
There will be 16 15-second underwriting credits created by Vroom to empower parents and caregivers by showing them how to turn the moments they spend with their kids into brain-building opportunities. The new spots, which began airing July 19 on PBS Kids, will bookend each episode of the show and feature different tips, incorporating topics such as how to foster creativity and communicate effectively.
In addition to messaging on PBS Kids’ broadcast and digital channels, the new partnership will deliver special learning resources directly to parents and caregivers during Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood “Be My Neighbor Day” community events, which are taking place in collaboration with 10 PBS stations across the U.S. next year.

Cartoon Network Offers Exclusive Shopping Opportunities at San Diego Comic-Con

Cartoon Network and Adult Swim will launch exclusive products, giveaways, and signings at San Diego Comic-Con. Cartoon Network Enterprises unveiled a roster spanning comic books, clothing, and toys.
The list of partner exclusives and limited first-runs includes Boom! Studios, Funko, IDW, Insight Editions, J!nx, Kidrobot, Mondo Tees, Oni Press, Penguin, PhatMojo, Spin Master, Titan Merchandise, WeLoveFine, and Zag Toys.
Fans are also invited to attend panels hosted by the licensing partners. On Thursday, July 21 at 1 p.m. in room 28DE, Patrick McHale, creator of miniseries Over the Garden Wall, will join BOOM! Studios’ panel “From Concepts to Comics: A Conversation about Editing in the Comics Industry.” On July 24 at 10 a.m. in room 4, Haley Mancini and Jake Goldman, writers for The Powerpuff Girls, will participate in IDW’s “Kids Rule!” panel.

NBA and AN Grup to Open First NBA Café in Europe

The National Basketball Association (NBA) and Spanish restaurant group AN Grup will launch the first NBA Café in Europe this fall on the iconic La Rambla street in Barcelona, Spain. NBA Café Barcelona will offer a dining and entertainment experience that captures the energy and feel of the brand, featuring NBA imagery, memorabilia, and merchandise. The cafe will be designed by Spanish interior designer Lázaro Rosa-Violán, whose work is displayed in more than 230 hotels, restaurants, and retail spaces worldwide.
Covering 1,200 square meters, the cafe will offer American bar and grill favorites along with local and Mediterranean dishes. Multimedia displays including an arena-inspired, four-sided “jumbotron” over the bar area that will show NBA highlights and programming so diners never miss a shot. Fans will also be able to meet NBA talent, including current and former players, mascots, and dance teams during key moments throughout the year.

Sanrio and Torrid Launch Hello Kitty Collection; Sanrio Opens First Hello Kitty Cafe in the U.S.

Sanrio and Torrid have teamed up to create a limited-edition Hello Kitty capsule collection for women sizes 19 to 30, available now at The Hello Kitty collection infuses modern fashion silhouettes with Hello Kitty prints, hardware, and accents. The collection will include dresses, skirts, and tops, and incorporates detailing such as buttons in the shape of Hello Kitty’s bow and a custom jacquard Hello Kitty pattern.
To celebrate the launch, Sanrio and Torrid will host a pop-up shopping event at Torrid’s Irvine Spectrum Center store in Irvine, California, from 4 to 7 pm. They have partnered with fashion blogger Amina Mucciold of @StudioMucci for the event.
In additional Sanrio news, the company opened its first Hello Kitty Cafe in the U.S., the Hello Kitty Cafe Pop-Up Container, on July 15, beginning its year-long residency at the Irvine Spectrum Center in Irvine, California. The cafe will be open daily to the public throughout next year. Its menu includes apple pies, sprinkle-covered cakes, chocolate opera cakes, mixed berry tarts, sugar cookies, and streusel tarts with Hello Kitty infused into each offering.

River of Goods to Debut Lighting for Poetic Wanderlust by Tracy Porter

River of Goods introduced an exclusive collection of Lighting for Poetic Wanderlust by Tracy Porter. The partnership was brokered by Jewel Branding and Licensing, the licensing agent for Tracy Porter.
The new lighting collection features eclectic lamps to fit anywhere in the home, including floor, table, accent, and hanging lamps as well as chandeliers. Loot Crate and The Coalition Partner for Gears of War 4: Loot Crate Edition

Loot Crate and The Coalition, the studio dedicated to the expansion of the Gears franchise, announced the forthcoming launch of Gears of War 4: Loot Crate Edition.
Gears of War 4: Loot Crate Edition will feature Gears of War items as well as the optional bundle including the standard version of Gears of War 4 game for Xbox One and Windows 10.
This limited-edition crate marks the first time Loot Crate subscribers and Gears of War fans will get a chance to purchase an upcoming game through one of Loot Crate’s limited-edition mystery crates. Fans who purchase the Gears of War 4: Loot Crate Edition will receive the crate and their digital copy of the game by the game’s release date on October 11. Stan Lee’s Cosmic Crusaders to Premiere on The Hollywood Reporter

Written by Deadpool co-creator Fabian Nicieza, based on a concept by Stan Lee, who also voices himself in a starring role, Stan Lee’s Cosmic Crusaders targets an 18 to 35-year-old audience. The series debuted with the first four episodes (approximately three minutes each) premiering exclusively on, in addition to The Hollywood Reporter’s YouTube channel and Facebook page. An episode will air each day leading up to and throughout Comic-Con International 2016, which opens July 21. Episodes will continue to be available on post Comic-Con.
Stan Lee’s Cosmic Crusaders follows comic book legend Stan Lee, who offers sanctuary to seven aliens that have crash-landed on earth and hold superpowers tied to their native planets.
The episodes will also be available in Virtual Reality, from Legend VR, along with “VR boxes” to place on smartphones available at Comic-Con. The VR experience gives viewers a chance to sit in Stan Lee’s living room and watch each of the first four episodes with the comic-book icon, who shares his thoughts before and after each episode. The VR app will be available on July 21 via iTunes and Google Play.
