FCP Reveals Licensing Plans for Dawn of the Planet of the Apes

Dawn of Planet of the ApesTwentieth Century Fox Consumer Products (FCP) has partnered with NECA and Titan Books for Dawn of the Planet of the Apes merchandise. NECA’s merchandising program includes new products from the upcoming movie, as well as the classic movies. The collection includes 6-inch action figures that come with interchangeable hands and character-specific accessories, apparel, and Pop Culture Shock collectibles. The series two assortment of mini scalers will feature Cornelius and five other characters from the movie.
 
Titan Books will sell three official books: Dawn of the Planet of the Apes: Firestorm, the official prequel novel, The Official Movie Novelization and Rise of the Planet of the Apes, and Dawn of the Planet of the Apes: The Art of Films. There is also an official souvenir magazine available. 

World of Eric Carle, Gymboree Partner for Apparel and Sleepwear

The Joester Loria Group has partnered the World of Eric Carle with The Gymboree Corp. for a multi-category infant and toddler apparel and sleepwear collection set to launch this fall. Gymboree will offer World of Eric Carle toddler playwear and sleepwear in boys, girls, and unisex styles. The line will debut in more than 600 Gymboree stores and online at gymboree.com in September.
 
The collection will feature characters from the World of Eric Carle and will be supported with marketing and in-store events. In addition, Gymboree will sell World of Eric Carle plush and books this fall and will debut an infant collection with Carle’s characters next spring. 

Chevrolet Debuts New Manchester United Shirt

Chevy Manchester UnitedChevrolet has debuted Manchester United’s 2014-15 season shirt and fans worldwide have the opportunity to take part in a digital campaign to virtually wear and share the shirt. Fans can upload photos of themselves wearing a digital version of the new shirt at www.chevroletfc.com and share it through their social channels.
 
The campaign is part of Chevrolet’s “Who Do You #PlayFor?” global campaign to bring football fans closer to the sport. Manchester United will play its first match in the new Chevrolet-branded shirts against the L.A. Galaxy at the Rose Bowl on July 23.

TCBY and Rovio Partner for Angry Birds Character-Inspired Flavors

TCBY Angry BirdsTCBY and the Angry Birds brand have joined forces to offer summer-friendly flavors for kids across stores nationwide. The limited-time flavors include Red’s Birdberry Yogurt, available July 17 to 30; Piggie’s Sour Apple Sorbet, available July 31 to August 13; Chuck’s Bananabird Sorbet, available August 14 to 27; and The Blues’ Cacaw Cotton Candy Yogurt, available August 28 to September 10.
 
In addition, consumers will have the opportunity to enter a grand prize trip to Angry Birds Space Encounter at the Kennedy Space Center by playing the Angry Birds app. After entering, consumers can spin a virtual prize wheel for a chance to win prizes, including Angry Birds plush toys, key chains, and TCBY gift cards. Angry Birds stickers will also be handed out in TCBY stores with a special code that provides a bonus entry into the grand prize sweepstakes. 

Epic Rights Signs New Toy Licenses for KISS Brand 

Epic Rights has secured licensing agreements with Bif Bang Pow!, Figures Toy Company, and K’NEX Brands for new toy lines for the KISS brand.
 
Bif Bang Pow! will create 3.75-inch scale KISS action figures, stationery products, tin totes, drinkware, license plate frames, and nesting dolls as part of its KISS collectibles line. Slated for release early next year, the items will be distributed exclusively through EE Distribution and sold online at entertainmentearth.com, and at other specialty retailers.
 
Figures Toy Company will introduce KISS action figures reminiscent of the classic figures first released in 1977-78 by the Mego Toy Company. The figures, each with rooted hair, cloth clothing, and 16 points of articulation, will be available in 18-inch, re-released in 12-inch models, and 8-inch figures. The figures will be distributed early next year through Toys “R” Us, Entertainment Earth, KISS Museum, KISS Army Warehouse, Comic Book & Hobby Stores, and Big Bad Toy.
 
K’NEX has developed KISS buildable figures that let consumers build their own Demon, Starchild, Spaceman, and Catman, including costumes, musical instruments, and a stage to display the completed KISS band members. K’NEX has also produced a KISS Rock Stage Big Rig Building Set that provides consumers with everything they need to take their KISS figures on tour, including two roadie figures and more than 300 pieces to create the ultimate KISS concert stage. The K’NEX KISS licensed products are currently available through www.knex.com and independent toy retailers.

Salzman Joins 3doo to Deliver Original 3-D Content for Global Distribution 

Bernard Salzman3doo Inc. has collaborated with Hollywood producer/director Bernard Salzman, who has launched a next generation 3-D production and content and licensing distribution company. The company is dedicated to providing high-quality 3-D content to 3doo’s global audience.
 
Salzman will also join Catherine Owens, principal director and co-producer of U2 3D, as a member of 3doo's Advisory Board.

The Wizarding World of Harry Potter—Diagon Alley Opens at Universal Orlando Resort 

Universal OrlandoUniversal Orlando Resort has officially opened The Wizarding World of Harry Potter—Diagon Alley at Universal Studios Florida. The fully immersive area expands upon the Harry Potter world first launched in 2010 with the Wizarding World of Harry Potter—Hogsmeade at Islands of Adventure.
 
The two lands of The Wizarding World of Harry Potter are connected by a journey on the Hogwarts Express. The new area includes shops with windows full of magical surprises, authentic food and beverages, a towering dragon that breathes fire, and Harry Potter and the Escape from Gringotts, a new attraction that takes fans on a ride through the Gringotts vaults. 

Curious George Appointed Official Family Ambassador for NYC & Company

NYC & CompanyNYC & Company has chosen Curious George as its sixth Official NYC Family Ambassador, a joint effort with NBCUniversal, Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, and PBS Kids. As part of the yearlong collaboration, Curious George will encourage family travel to New York City’s five boroughs. Previous Family Ambassadors include Where’s Waldo, the Muppets, the Smurfs, Dora the Explorer, and Sesame Street.
 
Curious George will encourage family travel with editorial content that features family-friendly activities and destinations for visitors and New Yorkers to enjoy. The content includes kid-friendly NYC travel materials, guides to beaches, zoos, aquariums, and museums for children, and must-see green spaces such as Central Park. NYC & Company has also collaborated with 16 cultural institutions to create and distribute a Curious George activity sheet at each attraction and destination.
 
The Official NYC Family Ambassador campaign will be promoted through bus shelters across the five boroughs, weekly social media posts, taxi TV commercials, and digital marketing targeting the city’s top regional markets.

Bulldog Draws Up New Art Deal for Tired Ted 

Bulldog Licensing has signed a new agreement for design brand Tired Ted with Yoofiti, the latest licensee to sign up. Yoofiti is set to release a line of personalized wall art featuring the lovable bear that will be sold online. Tired Ted features a mix of illustrative and photographic art with a back story that is integral to the brand.

Hollywood Records, Marvel to Release Guardians of the Galaxy Soundtracks

Guardians of the GalaxyHollywood Records and Marvel are set to release three albums from Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy on July 29. The Guardians of the Galaxy: Deluxe soundtrack features classic 1970s songs from the film and score by composer Tyler Bates. Guardians of the Galaxy Awesome Mix Vol. 1 is a collection of 12 songs, and Guardians of the Galaxy is the digital score soundtrack.
 
The film opens in U.S. theaters on August 1.

Moshi Monsters Boss Michael Acton Smith Steps Down

Moshi MonstersThe CEO of Mind Candy, the company known for children’s social network Moshi Monsters, will step down. Michael Acton Smith, who has run the business for 10 years, plans to focus on a more creative role rather than the day-to-day running of the firm. Divinia Knowles, currently chief operating and financial officer, will become president. A new CEO will be announced at a later date.

PGS Entertainment Secures Raft of Global Sales for Animated TV Series Super 4

PGS Entertainment has secured global sales for Super 4, the new animated series inspired by Playmobil, which will debut early next year. Produced by Method Animation and morgen studios, and commissioned by France Télévisions, PGS represents the series in all territories and has secured broadcast licensing agreements across Europe, Asia, and North America.
 
Current sales include Neox Kidz (Atresmedia) in Spain, TV3 in Catalonia, Canal Panda in Portugal, RTBF in Belgium, RTS in Switzerland, RTL téléKids in the Netherlands and Luxembourg, MTV3 in Finland, Canal+ in Poland; Noga in Israel; Workpoint in Thailand; and Radio-Canada in Canada.
 
These partnerships come in addition to recently announced broadcast deals for Super 4 with CiTV in the UK and Cartoon Network in Italy and Latin America.

Cartamundi Announces Shuffle Campaign

CartamundiCartamundi has announced that its new card playing concept, Shuffle, will be spearheading the company’s first-ever retail-focused television advertising campaign.
 
This brand new product category, which combines a series of card games based on famous entertainment brands with optional downloadable apps for an enhanced way to play, has inspired three 20-second adverts focusing on three games in the Shuffle range: Monopoly Deal, Transformers and My Little Pony. Each advert highlights the appeal of the Shuffle range to various age groups, both as a series of standalone card games and with enhancement from the app. Each advertisement ends with an image of the entire 12-game Shuffle range.
 
Showing in the UK in late August and early December, the advertisements will appear on a carefully selected group of children’s TV channels. Milkshake, Cartoonito, Nick Jnr, Tiny Pop and Disney Jnr will show the My Little Pony version. The Transformers and Monopoly Deal versions can be seen on Cartoon Network, Pop, Kix, Disney XD, CITV and CITVB.
 
Trudi Bishop, Head of Marketing and Licensing, Cartamundi Group, says: “TV advertising in the UK for a retail product is a new approach for Cartamundi. But Shuffle is a new approach to card playing, so we really want to shout about it — and where better than on some of the UK’s best-known and best-loved kids’ channels?”

Change4Life and Disney Launch 10 Minute Shake Up Campaign

10 Minute Shake UpPublic Health England has launched a major new Change4Life campaign in partnership with Disney to get kids more active this summer holidays. The 10 Minute Shake Up campaign uses popular Disney characters alongside recognisable Change4Life animations to get children doing more 10 minute bursts of exercise, to help them reach the recommended 60 minutes or more of physical activity they need each day. Families have been able to pre-register for the 10 Minute Shake Up campaign since June and already 75,000 families have signed up.
 
Parliamentary Under Secretary of State (Public Health), Jane Ellison said:
“The government is committed to encouraging active and healthy lifestyles and we are seeing some encouraging signs of childhood obesity levels stabilising. By 2020, we want to see a sustained downward trend in the level of excess weight in children, by encouraging people to eat healthily and be more active. Change4life and this 10 Minute Shake Up campaign helps towards that ambition by providing parents with fun, easy ideas on how to get their children more active over their summer holidays”.
 
The TV adverts are made by long-term collaborator Aardman Animations and use some of Disney’s most popular characters from film and TV.

Character World Expands Frozen Range

FrozenDemand for its Frozen range of bedroom textiles and accessories, based on the successful Disney film, has prompted Character World to bring forward and expand its existing product range, simply to meet demand.
 
The Manchester-based business will introduce ten new products to its existing range, due to hit leading stores in time for Christmas 2014.
 
Character World’s Frozen range begun with a single duvet set, but the unprecedented popularity of the product has led to the business creating a number of products to add to the collection including new duvet designs, beanbags, curtains, rugs, fleeces, cuddle robes, cushions and a junior bedding bundle.
The business is also in the early stages of planning a completely new range for 2015.

Licensing Awards 2014 Finalists Announced

Licensing Awards 2014Finalists for The Licensing Awards 2014 have now been revealed for the Product, Retail, and Marketing Communication Awards. The finalists for the Property Awards categories will be announced by the end of July.
 
The winners will be revealed at The Licensing Awards event on Tuesday 16th September – in The Great Room at London’s prestigious Grosvenor House Hotel. This year’s event is destined to be a memorable one for the 1,400 retailers, licensees, licensors and industry suppliers set to attend.

Michael Gottlieb Launches Sunny Side Up Licensing

Consumer brands across a broad range of product sectors will have access to some of the world's most iconic song lyrics following the launch of Sunny Side Up—a new licensing consultancy which will.
 
Sunny Side Up  - a new licensing consultancy which will specialise in licensing famous lyrics for use on all types of consumer merchandise - is being launched by licensing industry veteran Michael Gottlieb.
 
Michael started his licensing career at Warner Bros Consumer Products in the late 1980s.

He said: “I am excited to begin this new chapter in my career with my own consultancy. It will build on my many years of experience and relationships in the music licensing and retail industries."

Arsenal’s Megastore Reopens after Redesign   

Arsenal Football ClubArsenal Football Club’s megastore at Emirates Stadium has re-opened as of 11 July, after a complete redesign. The new space was developed in conjunction with Official Kit Partner PUMA.
 
An extensive personalisation area allows fans to create their own bespoke items, while the shirt printing area has been redesigned to ensure easier and quicker service. Three changing rooms each have a particular theme; the on-pitch experience, the post-match media room and the Arsenal tube – all with realistic audio and internal graphics, and the scent of freshly cut grass. The audio guided Emirates Stadium Tour now begins and ends in the store, enabling fans to purchase bespoke products and images of themselves on the tour.
 
A range of interactive offerings have been developed to provide an engaging shopping experience for visitors. Three huge digital screens, comprising of 27 screens in total, are to show exclusive video footage of the Arsenal team and can show live match streaming.  A specially designed sound system will allow sound to be ‘zoned’ around the store, and a newly integrated boot display area showcases the latest in what’s available from the PUMA collection.
 
The new look store is classic Arsenal style meets street edge of PUMA, and features high level graphic stencils in a graffiti design, presenting a street art style story of historic club moments around the store, marking the achievements of legendary 1930’s manger Herbert Chapman, up to present day. 

Karrot Entertainment’s Sarah & Duck Ramps Up Activity for Summer 

Karrot Entertainment’s  2D animated series Sarah & Duck is gearing up for summer with a host of broadcast, promotional and retail activity over the coming months including new episodes on CBeebies, a BFI screening and a DVD and Calendar release.
 
Onscreen, children’s television star Derek Griffiths is joining The Thick of It’s Roger Allam and Downton Abbey’s Lesley Nicol to breathe life into the new character of the Cloud Captain in brand new episodes of Sarah & Duck, which will be showing on CBeebies in August.  The new episodes will be accompanied by a special “Sarah & Duck Week” on the channel with repeats of favourite episodes and lots of Sarah & Duck games and activities on the CBeebies’ website.
 
There will also be a chance to preview Derek Griffiths’ first episode, Cloud Tower, in a special screening at the BFI celebrating 60 years of the finest BBC children’s characters on Sunday July 13th, with Derek Griffiths in attendance.
 
In addition, the release of a brand new planner available from Carousel Calendars is planned for August 1st, and a new DVD from BBC Worldwide featuring ten episodes from the series will be available to buy from September 8th.  Small talking Sarah & Duck plush toys and a large plush Duck from Posh Paws International are also now available from Tesco, Sainsbury’s and other major retailers.

Game of 2 Halves to License The Tootsie Rollers

Tootsie RollersAll-girl singing group The Tootsie Rollers have appointed Game Of 2 Halves as licensing agent, for retro-style products to capitalise on the booming consumer enthusiasm for 1950s designs and skills.
 
The Tootsie Rollers’ music is a fusion of glamorous, golden-era classics sprinkled with contemporary hits, alongside their own compositions, all with a “totally Tootsie twist”.
The group will be entertaining the licensing industry with a special appearance at The Licensing Awards 2014 on September 16th.
 
They have entertained royalty and celebrities including Princess Eugenie, Kevin Spacey, Kevin Bacon, Colin Firth, Darcey Bussell and Kim Cattrall, to name a few.
The first licensed products in development are a vintage retro health and beauty range. Other key categories include vintage-style clothing, hats, shoes, handbags, jewellery, hosiery, hair accessories and homewares.
 
The Tootsie Rollers are managed by The TCB Group.

DHX Media Signs Australian Deals for In the Night Garden

In the Night GardenDHX Media has signed a home entertainment deal for In the Night Garden in Australia with ABC Commercial on board to release all episodes of the show on DVD. In a further deal, DHX has appointed The Fusion Agency to represent the brand in the territory.
 
Tom Roe, Commercial Director of DHX Media, says: “In the Night Garden is a universally appealing brand and we are pleased to have ABC and Fusion on board to extend the reach of its magic even further across Australia. We look forward to providing more ways for pre-schoolers and their families to enjoy the whimsical world of Igglepiggle and his friends in this key market.”
