Elie Dekel Steps Down from Saban Brands

Elie Dekel has stepped down from his position as president of Saban Brands to pursue other opportunities. He will remain involved as a senior advisor for the company. Joel Andryc, managing director of Saban Capital Group, has been appointed interim president overseeing Saban Brands.
“Andryc will work closely with CFO Bill Kehoe and the executive team to lead strategy and continue to build on the company’s world-class portfolio of entertainment and lifestyle properties,” said Saban Brands in a statement. “We wish Elie much success in the future.”

Marvel Unveils Super Hero-Inspired Luggage

Disney Consumer Products (DCP) will unveil a new line of super hero-inspired luggage and travel accessories, including luggage, backpacks, and neck pillows. Marvel’s expansion into the travel category is part of the company’s ongoing strategy to expand its brand into new product sectors and retail avenues.
Luggage licensees include Heys for Marvel-themed hard shell suitcases for adults and families; American Tourister for durable and lightweight luggage; and Global Design Concepts and Fast Forward for lines of backpacks and rolling suitcases for kids and adults featuring Marvel’s Avengers and Spider-Man.
Beyond luggage, Marvel licensees Jay Franco and Northwest will introduce a variety of character-themed neck pillows and accessories.

McFarlane Toys to Create Game of Thrones Construction Line

McFarlane Toys, in partnership with HBO Global Licensing, will bring the Game of Thrones TV series to the construction toy aisles this fall.
Todd McFarlane’s toy company, McFarlane Toys, will introduce realistic and highly detailed Game of Thrones-themed construction sets that feature notable locations and multiple figures of fan-favorite characters seen on the show.
Todd McFarlane, CEO and founder of McFarlane Toys, says, “I’m very excited to work with HBO. They are a world-class network and Game of Thrones is one of the most visually compelling shows that I’ve ever seen.”
McFarlane Toys will unveil the first look of this new product line, including the Game of Thrones Iron Throne Room and Mother of Dragons construction sets at San Diego Comic-Con July 8 to 12 at booth #2729.

eOne Names Nelvana Exclusive Agent for Peppa Pig in Canada

Entertainment One (eOne), co-owners and worldwide distributors of global preschool property Peppa Pig, has named Corus Entertainment’s Nelvana as the property’s exclusive licensing and branding agent in Canada. Peppa Pig, which airs weekdays on Treehouse in Canada, will expand its footprint in North America with a consumer products initiative set to roll out to mass-market stores across the region in fall of next year.
The licensing program for Peppa Pig will span categories including apparel, footwear, home goods, stationery and greeting cards, health and beauty aids, mobile phone accessories, confectionary products, and more. Licensees already on board include Jazwares (master toy partner); Revolution (bed and bath products); JCorp (children’s apparel); Black and White (footwear and belts); Calego (hard case luggage, backpacks and totes); Amscan (party goods), Candlewick Press (jacketed hard cover, trade paperback, and novelty books); Imagine Publications (French language publishing, coloring and activity books); The Canadian Group (games and puzzles); and Primary Colors (packaged fruit snacks, candy, cookies, and crackers, and assorted stationery products).
eOne will also begin distributing Peppa Pig DVDs in Canada beginning next year.

Dynamite and Atari Ink Publishing Deal

Dynamite Entertaiment announces a collaborative publishing agreement with Atari. The deal includes rights for a comprehensive retrospective hardcover book, collecting game production and concept artwork, photos, behind-the-scenes info, marketing art, other details on the company and its games, and interviews with key people involved in Atari's rich history. The deal also includes the right to create original comics and graphic novels in all sizes, as well as reprint existing comic material.

In addition to the hardcover retrospective art book, Dynamite has plans to create new comics based on a select list of Atari properties that help re-imagine games with new story and art from some of today's best creators. The list includes Asteroids, Centipede, Crystal Castles, Missile Command, Tempest, Yar's Revenge, and more. Dynamite also plans to reprint existing comics material, such as the Atari Force comics that were originally published from 1982 to 1986.

Dynamite Entertainment's Atari art book, comic books, and graphic novels will be available to consumers through the comic book specialty market, and the graphic novel collection will be available at major bookstore chains, online booksellers, and independent bookstores courtesy of Diamond Book Distributors. Atari comics will also be available for purchase through digital platforms courtesy of Comixology, Dynamite Digital, iVerse, and Dark Horse Digital.

Star Trek: The Starfleet Academy Experience Exhibition Makes First Stop in Canada

Star Trek: The Starfleet Academy Experience, a new interactive Star Trek-themed exhibit, will launch at the Canada Aviation and Space Museum (CASM) in Ottawa next May. The exhibition will give visitors the opportunity to become a Starfleet cadet in an immersive experience that takes the student through orientation, training, and graduation, which ends at the deck of an active starship.
The Starfleet Academy Experience is enriched with the actual science behind the science fiction of Star Trek as the participants learn about emerging technologies such as a functional tricorder, NASA’s warp drive theory, and the latest experiments with phasers and teleporters.
The exhibition is produced by EMS Entertainment, under license by CBS Consumer Products. Ottawa is the first stop on a multi-city North American tour. The exhibition will be on view at the Canada Aviation and Space Museum from May through September of next year.

Genius Brands, Enesco Expand From Frank

Genius Brands International (GBI) and Enesco have partnered for the From Frank brand.
Enesco will develop a collection of 40 new gift products, including mugs, coasters, notebooks, desk plaques, tote bags, clocks, wall art, pet bowls, pet canisters, pencil cases, and more. The products will be showcased to retailers at the Summer Market gift shows, and will be available in store this holiday season.

Komar Kids Signs On for Kong—King of the Apes

41 Entertainment (41E) and Arad Animation have signed a deal with Komar Kids for Kong—King of the Apes sleepwear, layered garments, robes, and blanket sleepers for the U.S. and Canada.
Kong—King of the Apes will debut on Netflix next spring.

Zodiak Kids Partners with Britt Allcroft to Redevelop Mumfie

Zodiak Kids has partnered with Britt Allcroft Productions LLC to develop Zodiak’s new animated kids’ series, Mumfie.
Mumfie is based on Britt Allcroft’s The Magic Adventures of Mumfie, which first aired in the UK in the 1990s on CiTV and on Fox Kids in the U.S. The lead character, Mumfie, is an elephant who is joined on his adventures by a whale, a flying pig, some pirates, and his trusty sidekick Scarecrow. Mumfie was originally created as the string-puppet series Here Comes Mumfie in the 1970s.

Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood, Odd Squad to Get New Seasons

The Fred Rogers Co. has announced the production of new seasons of PBS Kids series Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood and Odd Squad. The third season of Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood will feature 20 new episodes to begin rolling out next year. Odd Squad will also kick off next year, with 25 live-action episodes.

Sega Announces CPLG as New Agent in Europe

Sega Europe Ltd has appointed Copyright Promotions Licensing Group (CPLG) as Licensing Agent for the Sonic The Hedgehog franchise in a number of key European territories including:  Benelux, France, Germany, Spain, Italy, Nordics, Denmark, CEE, Greece and Turkey. The move marks the growing strength of the recently launched TV series Sonic Boom, of which CPLG will continue to support, alongside promoting the classic Sonic programme.
Steve Manners, Executive Vice President, CPLG says: “Sonic is an undisputed classic brand that resonates across all our markets. We are looking forward to bringing a great product to a new audience through the wonderful Sonic Boom TV series, and also offering long term fans new and exciting trend product.”

British Museum to Launch Major Licensing Campaign

The British Museum has announced the launch of a global licensing campaign to build on its strength as a unique institution with strong marketing potential.
The agent — or agents — selected will help the Museum to develop a licensing campaign that has at its heart the values that have made this one of the world’s best-known and best-loved institutions.
The British Museum already enjoys some major associations that will underpin the planned licensing campaign. They include being the United Kingdom’s biggest visitor attraction with over six million visiting every year; and it is the oldest public museum in the world.
The licensing campaign will target a large number of product categories appealing to a wide range of demographics while also ensuring that the Museum’s values and integrity are maintained.
The agency partner will work alongside the team at the British Museum as well as design agency Skew, which will develop a style guide for the campaign, and public relations group kilogrammedia, which will handle licensing-related publicity.

Ducati Appoints IMG as Global Representative

Ducati Motor Holding, the motorcycle manufacturer, has appointed IMG as its exclusive global licensing representative, in a multi-year deal to work across all Ducati licensed products.
Ducati has developed a significant and well-established licensing programme covering a full range of lifestyle products that include clothing, accessories, toys, perfume and the Ducati Caffè. IMG will be tasked with optimising the management of that program and to take it to the next level.
“The Ducati brand's licensing activities have long been successful,” states Diego Sgorbati, Director of Motorcycle Related Products at Ducati Motor Holding. “Now however, the time has come to make use of specialised skills to increase our efforts and create a global footprint, which we think IMG is well qualified to provide. That's why, after looking at the alternatives, we realised that only IMG offered a standard of service in line with our own standards and objectives.”

Cartamundi Star Wars Range Coming Soon

Cartamundi has announced the imminent arrival of its new Star Wars range, aimed at an age group from four upwards.
The range includes two specially designed card packs, the first illustrated with stills from episodes I to III and the second with stills from episodes IV to VI. For superfans there is a gift box uniquely designed in the shape of a Darth Vader mask housing a set of specially illustrated playing cards telling the story of the feared villain himself.
The first output in the new range will reach retail in July, with the entire range becoming available in December.

DC Thomson Unveils New Beano ‘Past and Present’ Jigsaw

DC Thomson has unveiled its latest addition to its partnership with Gibsons. Made in the UK on 100% recycled board, the new The Beano ‘Past and Present’ 1000 piece jigsaw puzzle is now available from Amazon.
In a first for the brand, Gibsons’ new ‘Past and Present’ jigsaw brings together two distinct creative directions for the property.  Resulting in a fun and quirky puzzle that will appeal to fans of all ages, the classic The Beano comic artwork is blended with the contemporary Dennis the Menace and Gnasher design.  This latest addition joins Gibsons popular line of The Beano games including The Beano 1000pc and Dennis and Gnasher 150pc jigsaw puzzles.

Polo Brand to Launch Global Clothing Range

The Hurlingham Polo Association (HPA) has signed an agreement with Pacific Licensing Studio Pte Ltd (PLS) to capitalize on its new brand identity by launching a range of branded clothing and luxury consumer products across China and the South East Asia region.
Polo’s oldest governing body and the spiritual home of the modern game, the HPA recently revealed the new brand identity to celebrate its 140th anniversary and it is this new identity which will carry the brand’s prestige and luxury credentials to consumers across the region.
The HPA’s new brand reflects its values, authenticity and distinctly British appeal and with multi award winning PLS’s specialism in consumer products licensing, retail solutions and promotional/sponsorship opportunities, today’s announcement heralds an exciting development for the 140-year-old organisation.

Maya the Bee Movie Release Set for the UK and Nordics

Studio 100 Film, announces its recent deal for CGI animated movie, Maya the Bee, with London based pan-European entertainment company, Primal Screen. The deal includes all rights for the United Kingdom, the Republic of Ireland, Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Finland and Iceland and will see Maya and her friends hitting the big screen in the UK in October 2015.
Studio 100 Film has already sold the animated feature film Maya the Bee in over 160 territories so far, including North America and has seen impressive box office sales.
Produced by Studio 100 Media and Buzz Studios, in association with Flying Bark Productions, Maya the Bee features the voice talent of Coco Jack Gillies (Mad Max: Fury Road), Academy Award nominee Jacki Weaver (Animal Kingdom, Silver Linings Playbook), Miriam Margolyes (Harry Potter, Babe), Richard Roxburgh (Mission: Impossible II), Noah Taylor (Game of Thrones, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory), Kodi Smit-McPhee ( X-Men: Apocalypse, Rise of the Planet of the Apes) and Justine Clarke (Home and Away).

Horrid Henry App Hits iOS and Android Stores

P2 Entertainment has launched the Horrid Henry’s Big Box of Pranks app based on the Horrid Henry books and TV series for kids ages 5 to 12. The app is available for purchase on iOS and Android devices.
Horrid Henry’s Big Box of Pranks is a collection of action-packed mini-games based on Henry’s love for all things mischievous. Players will recognize popular characters, theme music, and sound affects from the Horrid Henry TV series, as they delve into Henry’s box of pranks for the ultimate prankster contest.
The app is available at the iTunes, Amazon, GooglePlay, Samsung and Barnes & Noble app stores.


Betty Boop Brand Expands in China

Five Plus recently launched a Betty Boop design collection, Five Plus x Betty Boop, across China in their 1000 stores and shop-in-shops, as well as online.
The collection of dresses, separates and accessories encompasses three vivid contemporary color and design treatments, Classic Red, Aqua Green and Denim Blue.  Five Plus promoted and supported the launch through their extensive social media network, as well as unique sales counters and window displays.
