TJLG, Rocket Sign New Licensees for The World of Eric Carle

The Joester Loria Group has brokered three new deals for The World of Eric Carle, to expand on the current program with personalized products.
CPS launched print-on-demand personalized products, including backpacks, blankies, T-shirts, and toys. Click here to check out the collection. Personalized digital party invitations and thank you cards from Percy 3D will be available through starting this fall. Zazzle will create a range of stationery and back-to-school, home and room décor, and infant collections, which are featured in a World of Eric Carle storefront and landing page.
Rocket Licensing, the local licensing agent in the UK for The Very Hungry Caterpillar, has also announced a number of retail initiatives. Also scheduled for 2016 is the UK debut of the highly acclaimed The Very Hungry Caterpillar live show.
The spring/summer period has already seen the arrival of sunhats from VMC Accessories and a unisex baby romper from Paul Dennicci. In the coming months, Dennicci will expand its output to include unisex and boys’ sleepsuits, baby hoodies, pram suits, and baby mittens in a number of designs. The range will be available in Boots, M&Co, and online. Sleeping bags and a baby sleepsuit and hat set will roll out later this year. In the third quarter, Dreamtex will offer alphabet and number duvet sets at Morrisons, Asda, Shop Direct, Tesco, Argos online, and Debenhams.
Toward the end of the year, new licensee Alligator Products will launch a wide range of Very Hungry Caterpillar travel items. It will include travel harnesses, travel pillows, plush car seats, buggy seatbelt strap covers, car seat organizers, ‘baby on board’ signs, sunshades, and booster seats, all decorated with images from the original Very Hungry Caterpillar book. The range will appear at a number of supermarkets, toy shops, and do-it-yourself outlets.

Bullseye Biltong Deal in the Bag for Bulldog

Bulldog Licensing has signed a new deal that will see Bully – the emblem of game show Bullseye - appearing on packs of British-made biltong.

Originally presented by comedian Jim Bowen, Bullseye proved to be a huge hit with UK audiences with its mixture of darts and general knowledge questions. Each week amateur darts players would battle it out for a selection of prizes, including Bully’s special prize, and some of the biggest names in professional darts would throw for charity. The show ran over the entire ITV network from 1981 to 1995 and regularly pulled in 13 million viewers per episode, with a peak audience of 19.8 million on Boxing Day 1989. ITV has since featured the show in two high rating one-off specials and the show is still on air through digital channel Challenge, which broadcasts Bullseye every single evening, often pulling in audiences over 200,000.

The new deal will see Bullseye-branded biltong hitting the market courtesy of The Biltong Farm – a Lincolnshire-based company that will supply the dried meat snack to pubs, clubs and bars.

“Bullseye enjoys huge brand awareness and this is a great use of the license, as I’m sure drinkers will be more than ready to dip into a pack of Bully Biltong! Over recent years the pub snack market has changed massively and I can think of no better brand to help promote the growth of Biltong as consumers look to move away from less healthy snack products” says Bulldog Licensing Manager Vicky Hill.

Ciarán Coyle Named LIMA Board Chairman

Ciarán Coyle, global vice president and head of Electrolux global brand licensing, was elected chairman of the board of the International Licensing Industry Merchandisers’ Association (LIMA). Board member Cindy Levitt of Hot Topic was elected by the members of the board of directors to vice chairman, and Ted Larkins of CPLG North America was voted to the executive committee as the liaison to the board of directors, each for a one-year term.
The LIMA membership has elected six new members to begin terms on the LIMA board, including  Jay Asher, Brandgenuity; Andrew Carley, Entertainment One; Eric Karp, Crayola LLC; Kelly Knock, Under Armour; Neal Rudge, Pacific Licensing Studio Pte. Ltd.; and Leigh Ann Schwarzkopf, Project Partners Network LLC.

Sony Pictures Calls B&D for Ghostbusters Partnership Campaign

Four UK brand partners will support the return of Ghostbusters on Monday July 11, in a campaign created by Brand & Deliver for client Sony Pictures.
Thirty years after the original supernatural comedy franchise arrived in the world, Ghostbusters is back with a cast of new characters ready to save the world this summer. The campaign, running throughout June and July, brings together National Tyres and Autocare, Sony Mobile, O2 for O2 Priority, and Karcher, the world’s leading provider of cleaning technology, who together will engage a wide consumer base of lifelong fans and new audiences.
Activity includes a national press and drive time radio campaign by National Tyres and Autocare, utilising the iconic “Who You Gonna Call?” soundtrack by Ray Parker Jr; a TV campaign by Karcher supported by POS in more than 3,000 stores; a TV and digital out of home campaign by O2 for O2 Priority offering the chance to win tickets to the U.S. premiere and preview screenings; and a POS promotion by Sony Mobile within 480 O2 stores. All four partners will engage customers on digital and social channels.

American Greetings, Precious Moments Partner for Co-Branded Care Bears Line

Precious Moments Inc. entered a licensing agreement with American Greetings Entertainment for Precious Moments co-branded Care Bears, which it will bring to The Atlanta International Gift & Home Furnishings Market July 12 to 19. The line includes Care Bear figurines, musicals, and décor.
The first 10 available gift items include figurines made of porcelain and resin, an LED musical of a girl with Harmony Bear made of resin playing the Care Bears theme song, and a Girl with Cheer Bear photo frame made of resin with the text “Oh Happy Day.” Future items in the line will include water globes and ornaments.

Discovery Kids Latin America on Board for Lilybuds Co-Production

Zodiak Kids Studios announces that it has secured a co-production deal with Discovery Kids Latin America for new property Lilybuds.

Lilybuds is a series that follows the adventures of a playful community of tiny magical gardeners known as Lilybuds. This fraternity of funny friends, each with a big personality, are united in purpose to tend to the extraordinary garden where they live while caring for all the animal creatures that live nearby.

The series has been developed for television by Eryk Casemiro, who will executive produce for Zodiak Kids Studios with editorial input from Discovery Kids Latin America. Kate Boutilier (Rugrats, Poppy Cat, The Mr. Men Show) is the head writer and co-Executive Producer. The CGI animation will be produced in France with a leading 3D studio. Earlier this year it was announced that France Télévisions is also on board for the animated series and Lagardère has recently picked up pay TV rights for Tiji.

Fox Consumer Products Launches Ice Age Promotion with Lidl

Twentieth Century Fox Consumer Products and Lidl joined hands for a comprehensive promotion across Europe for Ice Age. The campaign begins next week ahead of the Ice Age: Collision Course film release.
Ice Age will feature in Lidl stores as the retailer launches a range of more than 90 products, including Ice Age DVDs, apparel, and publishing in their 10,000 stores across 29 European countries. 
A 360-degree activation will launch worldwide, including TV, print, in-store, circulars, social, and digital media. Additional markets will offer free Ice Age movie posters and host competitions to win tickets either in store or on social media.

One Animation Appoints Bettina Koeckler as EVP Global Consumer Products and Licensing

One Animation has announced Bettina Koeckler has been appointed as EVP Global Consumer Products and Licensing to lead the business as it begins execution of an ambitious global consumer product strategy. 
The role has been created in response to the studio’s worldwide success with properties such as Oddbods, an animated comedy show that airs globally to some of the largest children’s TV audiences. Koeckler will be executing the fast-paced roll out throughout all the key global markets in 2016 and beyond, as well as creating new business opportunities and strategic partnerships to drive further brand value and commercial revenue opportunities.

NFLPA Names Licensees of the Year

EA Sports, Panini America, and 500 Level were named winners of the second annual NFL Players Association (NFLPA) Licensee of the Year Awards. EA Sports won for Digital Licensee of the Year, Panini America for Hardlines Licensee of the Year, and 500 Level for Apparel Licensee of the year.
A panel comprised of NFLPA executives judged entrants on five criteria: number of unique players featured within the licensees’ product lines; the marketing and promotional activations that featured players throughout the year; creativity and innovation in product development; the companies’ positive development of the players’ intellectual property; and, the range of distribution and growth in annual financial performance.
The NFLPA launched the awards last year to honor the NFLPA licensees that have demonstrated successful and creative use of group player rights within the past year.

Bill Bailey to Play Wilbur on Milkshake

Comedian, musician and actor, Bill Bailey will play Wilbur the cat in the brand new animation series, Winnie and Wilbur set to air on Channel 5's pre-school strand, Milkshake.
Bill Bailey said: “Winnie the Witch is already a huge hit with kids all over the world so I’m delighted to bring Wilbur to life.  I’ve got a lot in common with this cat: we’re both extremely agile, we both love cheesecake, and given half a chance, we like to fall asleep in a cosy basket."
Bailey joins comedian Katy Brand who was announced as the voice of Winnie in November. Based on the best-selling Winnie the Witch books by Valerie Thomas and Korky Paul, published by Oxford University Press, Winnie and Wilbur is currently in production with UK-based Winduna Enterprises and will air on Milkshake in 2017.
An accomplished musician and unique comic talent, Bailey is known for his work on television shows such as Never Mind the Buzzcocks and Black Books. He is currently on tour with his latest live show Limboland.

Gorjuss Enters Multiple Licensing Deals Worldwide

Santoro is expanding Gorjuss’ global licensing program as it enters new categories and signs new partners. New categories for Gorjuss include beach towels, publishing, collectible PVC figures, and further expansions into arts and crafts.
New licensees in Spain and the UK include Panini Espana, Textile Tarrago, Comansi, and KSG, among others. Plans are underway for further expansion in the UK and Europe.
The Gorjuss brand is currently present in 70 countries and projected to grow by 30 percent by the end of this year.

Children’s Media Foundation Launches Annual Kids’ Media Manual

Top names in the children’s media industry including actor and comedian Sir Lenny Henry, BBC Director of Children’s Alice Webb, child development experts Dr Amanda Gummer and Dr Barbie Clarke, journalists Stuart Dredge and Rebecca Atkinson, researcher Peter Robinson and consultant Alex Chien have joined forces to contribute to the Children’s Media Foundation’s annual Yearbook – a snapshot of the news, trends and issues affecting the kids media scene over the last twelve months.
Launched at the Children’s Media Conference in Sheffield on 6th July, the CMF Yearbook is packed with articles on the development, creation, distribution and regulation of children’s media content on all platforms – from traditional tv to online and apps.   A must-have manual of the kids’ media scene, the Yearbook is a great resource for anyone working in, studying or with an interest or concern about the children’s media industry. Many of the contributors will be discussing their topics during the conference.
Sir Lenny Henry says in the yearbook’s closing article: “All children should have access to the best our industry can offer, and The Children’s Media Foundation is at the forefront of fighting for the best in children’s content and ensuring that it is fully diverse and representative. The children of today will shape our world and I’m pleased that the CMF is helping to give them the widest possible range of opportunities to do so”.

Care Bears Expands Digital Apps Suite

American Greetings Entertainment announced new app launches and digital partnerships to build on the current digital portfolio for the Care Bears property in categories that span educational, games, storybooks, and personalization.

  • Ruckus Learning and Ruckus Media Group launched Care Bears Bearied Treasure on May 18. This mobile storybook app is based on the Welcome to Care-A-Lot series on Netflix.
  • Building on its relationship with Miniclip, Care Bears was added into in June. Fans will now be able to play using Care Bears designs as they aim to climb the in-game leaderboard.
  • Kids can chase down Care-a-lot’s favorite nuisance, Beastly, with the Care Bears Care Karts app from PlayDate Digital. App users can dress up their favorite bear, customize an array of colorful Care Bear cars, and fuel up for the showdown with Beastly.
  • Care Bears will be launched into the FarFaria subscription-based story time app this month.
  • In August, Tipitap introduces Care Bears Rainbow Slides, a digital game board experience for the whole family.
  • An educational app by Ink & Salt will teach kids American Sign Language. It will launch on September 9 on National Care Bears Share Your Care Day.
  • Care Bears partners with Bilingual Children’s Enterprises for an app that features a cast of digital multicultural characters that will teach kids alongside Care Bears. This bilingual app will launching early next year.
  • Lastly, the Care Bears Lock Screen from IconLogin lets users unlock an android device using a picture password using a keypad made of Care Bears.

Egmont Publishing has announced three senior appointments in its UK Books team.
Sarah Bates has been made Commercial Director of the books division in the UK – a new role across Fiction, Picture books, Non-fiction, Gift and Brands and Licensing – reporting into Cally Poplak, MD Egmont Publishing, UK.
Bates moves from her current global role in Egmont Publishing as Director Egmont Creative Solutions and prior to that she held the position of Brands and Licensing Publishing Director at Egmont in the UK.
Ali Dougal has been promoted to Fiction Publishing Director leading the team of five editors. Previously Editorial Director for Fiction at Egmont, Ali has launched and built bestselling and critically acclaimed authors such as Jim Smith, Katherine Woodfine and Lisa Heathfield.
John Packard, previously Publisher of top brands, including Star Wars, Minecraft and Halo, and of Egmont’s market leading Annuals range, has been promoted to Brands and Licensing Publishing Director.
Melissa Fairley, Publishing Director of Picture Books and Gift and Tiffany Leeson, Creative Director will report into Sarah Bates.

Literature Loving Litographs Gains License for The Rainbow Fish

Litographs has recently been granted a license to include Marcus Pfister’s The Rainbow Fish from NorthSouth Books in their collection of products. The literature loving company proclaims that they create, “art from books”, and now they will be able to introduce The Rainbow Fish series to their extensive and diverse selection. RJM Licensing has brokered the deal between Litographs and NorthSouth Books, the publishers of the best-selling Rainbow Fish children’s books.

I have 8 years experience of working for a large London Publishing house licensing book content to third parties. I am looking for a role which utilises my skills in negotiation and relationship building and can develop my experience within the licensing field. Having licensed book content to a wide variety of customers from national Newspapers to international Publishers I would relish the experience to work in a new industry, licensing new content to new clients.
I realise that a move across from traditional publishing may mean a step down from the managerial role I was in before. I'm enthusiastic to work in a new industry and feel my skills are easily transferable and am happy to look outside licensing roles also.
