  Disney Rides into Retailers with The Lone Ranger Merchandise

Disney Consumer Products has rounded up an assortment of products based on the Disney/Jerry Bruckheimer Films' The Lone Ranger, releasing in theaters today. Designed for Western fans of all ages, the new product line includes apparel, construction sets, detailed action figures, role-play items, designer accessories, and hand-crafted leather goods that capture the action and adventure of the film and its iconic characters, including the Lone Ranger and Tonto.

Toy and role-play partners include Lego (construction sets), NECA (7-inch action figures and prop replica Lone Ranger mask), and Disney Store (the Lone Ranger Hat). Lifestyle partners include Theodora & Callum (The Lone Ranger Scarf), Rotenier (cufflink collection), and Will Leather Goods (leather relics). Publishing products include The Lone Ranger book adaptation.

  Penguin and Random House Finalize Merger

Penguin and Random House publishing houses have finalized the merger that was announced last year.

Penguin UK Chief Executive Tom Weldon has been appointed Chief Executive of Penguin Random House, with Gail Rebuck, Chair and Chief Executive of Random House UK, is to be Chair of the new merger. Ian Hudon will be Deputy Chief Executive. John Makinson is Chairman of Penguin Random House and Markus Dohle is serving as CEO.

Markus Dohle composed a letter to Penguin Random House staff in the UK, India, Australia and New Zealand, global chief executive Markus Dohle praised Rebuck and Weldon, who he said, had "guided Penguin to its most succesful three years in its financial history, combining a host of bestsellers with an innovative development of the Penguin brand and a very successful broadening of its Intellectual Property strategy, particularly in the children's area."

The company commented that there would be a gradual and careful integration process.

  Sofia the First Merchandise Launches at Retailers Nationwide

Disney Consumer Products has launched Sofia the First products at retailers nationwide for the first time. The expanded product offering features an assortment of items inspired by cable TV's No. 1 series among kids ages 2 to 5. The line includes items from key licensees, including Mattel, Jakks Pacific, and Jay Franco, and includes Sofia's iconic dress and amulet necklace, home décor, bedding and bath accessories, apparel, dolls, plush, a castle, and more.

In addition, Disney Publishing will introduce a Sofia the First Digital Magazine and Story Theater app this summer, as well as second storybook Sofia the First: the Floating Palace (the first storybook–Sofia the First–is currently on The New York Times Bestsellers list).

  SMC Entertainment Group Appointed Licensing Agent for Poppy Cat

SMC Entertainment Group Inc. (SMC) has been appointed the exclusive licensing agent in North America for the TV series Poppy Cat. SMC will launch a licensing and merchandising program based on the colorful Poppy Cat characters, focusing on toys, plush, apparel, accessories, room décor, bedding, games, and more. The program will target girls and boys ages 2 to 5.

Poppy Cat is co-produced by Coolabi's TV production arm, Coolabi Productions, and King Rollo Films, and was commissioned by Nick Jr. in the UK.

  BLE 2013 Update

BLE 2013, running on 15–17 October at London Olympia, will debut the new, zoned floor plan which will enable visitors to navigate the array of brands on show.

In the Brands area, companies include Coca Cola, adidas, Nike, ChupaChups, Jelly Belly, Budweiser, and Aquascutum. High profile heritage and non-profit brands include The National Trust, WWF and the Victoria and Albert Museum. In the athletic side, Manchester United, Real Madrid and the NBA will square up with Slazenger and the Royal Ballet. BLE has announced Chewits, and the guitar brand, Fender, for the first time this year. Other brands showcased will be Mini to Mercedes, Neil Diamond to Marilyn Monroe.

In the Art, Design & Illustration will be Belle and Boo making a debut, together with Fatina Dreams, Gorjuss and Helz Cuppleditch.

"There is a good reason these consumer brands come to BLE," says Darren Brechin, BLE Event Director. "They are looking for the chance to make new partnerships with manufacturers, retailers or service providers so that, together, they can create meaningful new ways to connect."

  Warner Bros. Consumer Products Partners with Fetch for Pets for Pet Toys

Warner Bros. Consumer Products debuted a line of DC Comics-inspired pet products through a partnership with Fetch for Pets, on behalf of DC Entertainment. The line will feature T–shirts, dresses, bandanas, and toys, such as ball bodies, teethers, bottle crunchers, and plush figures based on DC comics superheroes. The line will debut exclusively at PetSmart stores this month.

  Planeta Junior Signs for Peter Pan Products

Planeta Junior Italia has signed with Ranocchiroe for Peter Pan products.

The company will develop the property on favors, photoframe and others. The series is produced by DQ Entertainment (India) while De Agostini Editore S.pA./DeAKids is one of the co-producers. The New Adventures of Peter Pan is a 3D HD stereoscopic TV series featuring Peter Pan, Tinkerbell and Wendy, among other characters.

The series is on air on DeAkids.

  Candy Crush Saga Begins Licensing Push

King has signed its first-ever licensing and merchandising agreement with premium sock designer, Happy Socks for game Candy Crush Saga.

As part of this global deal Happy Socks and King have co–designed two pairs of socks, both inspired by Candy Crush Saga.

"Candy Crush Saga has become nothing short of a worldwide phenomenon—a game that people can play and enjoy anywhere, any time. With that in mind, it's only fitting that the first licensing deal is with Happy Socks, giving all those who love the game the chance to revel in the fun of Candy Crush Saga, literally right down to their toes." said Riccardo Zacconi, King's CEO and co–founder.

"We are very excited to work with the creators behind the spectacularly popular game Candy Crush Saga to design these custom, high quality socks. The socks will be exclusively designed, not simply branded, and will reflect the quality both King and Happy Socks are known for delivering," said Mikael Söderlindh CEO of Happy Socks.

  Discovery Communications and Launch Prepaid Debit Cards

Discovery Communications and have debuted prepaid Visa and MasterCard debit cards, featuring designs from Discovery Channel series, including and MythBusters. These cards are bank-issued, fraud protected, and FDIC-insured debit cards that can be used anywhere. Additionally, a user-friendly online banking experience includes bill pay, cash transfers, and provides transaction history.

  Five New Members Elected to the LIMA Board of Directors

The International Licensing Industry Merchandisers' Association (LIMA) has appointed five new members to its board of directors: Mike Brown, vice president, licensing and partnership management, American Greetings; Marilu Corpus, president and CEO, Click! Licensing Asia Inc.; Paul Flett, brand management and licensing agent, United Talent Agency; Christian Fortmann, managing partner, 24 IP Law Group; and Darran Garnham, chief business development officer, Mind Candy. Returning to the board of directors are Chairperson Maura Regan (Sesame Workshop), Vice–Chairperson Rick Van Brimmer (The Ohio State Univ.), Ciáran Coyle (Beanstalk UK), Dell Furano (Epic Rights LLC), Elias Hofman (Exim Licensing), Susie Lecker (Fisher–Price), Marty Malysz (Dependable Solutions), Sara Nemerov (Warner Music Group), Carla Peyton (BBC Worldwide Americas), Jennifer Richmond (Richmond Management Group), James Slifer (The Joester Loria Group), Cheryl Stoebenau (CAS Marketing), and Peter Yoder (Cartoon Network Enterprises). LIMA board members whose terms expire this year are Liz Kalodner (CBS Consumer Products), Bettina Koeckler (Twentieth Century Fox), Peter Boder (United Labels, AG), and Charles Schnaid (Miller, Kaplan, Arase & Co.).

  Turner Announces Redesigned EMEA Consumer Products Team

Turner CN Enterprises (TCNE) has streamlined its consumer products team, which predominantly consists of internal appointments.

The team is aligned to focus on two key areas of partner support: retail and licensees. Reporting to Fenwick, Maria Rosaria Milone, Senior Commercial Director, will lead a new category sales team and is responsible for developing licensing strategies in-line with local and regional market trends. Appointed as Head of category for Apparel, Accessories & Footwear EMEA is Leila Loumi who joins from The Beanstalk Group. Milone says of the appointment.

Additional head of category appointments—all of whom have been promoted from within the business—include Jason Rice for Toys and Sports, Annabel Rochfort for Themed Entertainment, Victoria Saint for Publishing, Videogames and Music and Sandra Selva-Abril for Stationery and Home. David Berry will continue his consulting role for Turner by also acting as Head of Category for Food and Promotions whilst Turner recruits the full-time role.

Also reporting to Fenwick is a new head of retail team—all of whom have been promoted from within the business—who will manage a team of dedicated retail managers. Graham Saltmarsh has been appointed to Head of Retail for the UK, Italy, France and Nordics, with Kathrin Schenk as Head of Retail for GAS, CEE, Russia and Benelux and Mar Romera for Spain and Portugal.

Additional retail appointments, also reporting to Fenwick, include Amir Demian as Retail Business Development—Middle East, North Africa, Greece and Cyprus and Archana Keskar as Retail Business Development, Africa and Israel.

Vice President Alan Fenwick is enthusiastic about the new EMEA structure. "The business is carefully designed to be a truly client and retail–facing enterprise.   Hilco Streambank to Sell Trademark, Assets of Zellers Inc.

Hilco Streambank is set to sell the trademark and domain name assets of Zellers Inc., one of Canada's largest retailers with locations across Canada. The assets present an opportunity to leverage a strong Canadian retail brand with a long history in multiple product categories. The intellectual property assets available in the sale include registered trademarks in Canada, such as Zellers, Truly, Sportek, Jules and James, Sentiments, Midtown, Mantles Platinum, and Holiday Joy.   Viz Acquires Garden of Words

Viz Media Europe has announced the acquisition of the new Makoto Shinkai's movie, The Garden of Words, for all video rights (TV, Home Video and Digital rights) in Europe, except for the UK.

Kaze will release the DVD and Blu-Ray in France, Netherlands and Germany in 2014.

Following Voices of a Distant Star and his most recent feature work 5cm per second, Children Who Chase Lost Voices has been screened in numerous European Film festivals in 2012 (Future Film Festival Bologna, Lille Festival of Animation, Fantasy Film Festival of Brussel, Muvizu Presents: Glasgow Youth Film Festival).

Takao, who is training to become a shoemaker, skipped school and is sketching shoes in a Japanese–style garden. He meets a mysterious woman, Yukino, who is older than him.   AG Properties Expands National Strawberry Shortcake Health and Beauty Program

AG Properties (AGP) has signed several licensing deals and renewals that will deliver new sweet–scented products to Strawberry Shortcake fans across the U.S. Added Extras, Blue Cross Laboratories, and Cosrich will extend their lines of Strawberry Shortcake health and beauty products, and Feeling Smitten has signed on as a first time partner.

Feeling Smitten will create a line of Strawberry Shortcake cupcake bath accessories available this fall. The two–year agreement complements the bubble bath, body wash, hand soap, and shampoo already on the market through Blue Cross Laboratories and Added Extras, which are both expanding their product lines as well. Blue Cross Laboratories will offer tissues, while Added Extras will offer a full line of girls' hair accessories available this November. Cosrich has partnered with AGP to develop a new line of children's Strawberry Shortcake–themed personal care products. The line includes hand sanitizing gels, first–aid, and gummy vitamins.

  Genesis Sports Extends License

Genesis Sports has secured an extended licence to continue as suppliers of PUMA team sports apparel to professional clubs in the UK and Ireland. The company works with Premier League, Football League and Scottish professional football clubs to supply innovative, high quality technical playing kit, training wear and accessories.

The licence will allow the company to build on its established partnerships with clubs such as Reading FC and Cardiff City, as well as its service to both codes of rugby.

"We've just reached our tenth anniversary of working with PUMA, so signing on the dotted line with them to extend the partnership is a real boost for us and provides us with a springboard for future growth," explained Genesis Sports managing director John Howarth.

"We can continue to deliver exceptional service to our partner clubs but this latest deal also allows us to spread our wings and widen our provision of high quality technical kit and training wear."

  Global Tissue Group Signs with U.S. Army for Paper Products

Global Tissue Group Inc. (GTG), a private label paper manufacturer, has signed a licensing agreement with the U.S. Army brand. The U.S. Army brand will allow GTG's customers to honor their troops and veterans by offering a variety of products for the home, including paper towels, paper napkins, and facial tissue that will be distributed to drug stores, grocery stores, club stores, and discount retailers nationwide. Beanstalk brokered the deal.

  Amtrak And Jim Henson Company Sweepstakes

Amtrak and The Jim Henson Company have recently partnered for the "Pajanimals Pack Your Pajamas Sweetstakes." The new promotion and the Company's ongoing partnership with Amtrak were announced today by Melissa Segal, Executive Vice President of Global Consumer Products for The Jim Henson Company.Families can enter the Sweepstakes throughout July by logging onto and following the sweepstakes entry directions. The Sweepstakes will award one Grand Prize of four round–trip coach tickets on Amtrak, a Flip video camera and a 4–piece large plush set of Pajanimals from Tomy. Five First Prize winners will receive HeysUSA Amtrak luggage and a Pajanimals Adventure Game from Briarpatch and 10 Second Prize winners will receive an Amtrak branded hoodie and the Pajanimals Playdate DVD from NCircle Entertainment. The sweepstakes ends July 31, 2013, just in time to take the family on an exciting vacation adventure via Amtrak.

As part of the national summer promotion, Amtrak will promote the Pajanimals Pack Your Pajamas Sweepstakes and entry details through counter cards and seatbacks in over 100 Amtrak stations nationwide. Amtrak will also distribute free Pajanimals themed activity booklets to young travelers and Pajanimals will be featured on placemats for use in Amtrak's dining cars. Pajanimals currently airs daily on Sprout, the 24–hour preschool channel parents and kids share together, and on Saturday mornings on NBC Kids. The series follows the adventures of four cuddly musical puppets—Sweet Pea Sue, Squacky, Cowbella and Apollo.

  Parks and Recreation Merchandise Launched

NBCUniversal Television Consumer Products has signed with licensees for a new line of Parks and Recreation-branded merchandise. Press Pass Inc. Cards has developed collector's edition trading cards featuring all of the main characters from the show as well as key guest stars. The first set of cards is available in random five–card foil packs, with the second set releasing in December.

In addition, collector's edition tasseled bookmarks featuring Leslie Knope and Ron Swanson, a Leslie Knope poster, and a Ron Swanson poster, from Trends International, will be available in August. Ripple Junction has also signed on for a Ron Swanson Halloween mask and a talking bobblehead, which will be available this fall.

Additionally, NBCUniversal Television Consumer Products has partnered with Five Star Gourmet Foods to launch a new line of The Biggest Loser fresh and frozen healthy meals and snacks. The line is expected to launch later this year and will include branded single-serve salads, fruit and veggie snacks, bagged salads, and fresh and frozen steamed meals. The deal was brokered by Joy Tashjian Marketing Group and was licensed through NBCUniversal Television Consumer Products and Shine America.
