  AG Properties Launches Two New Properties at Licensing Expo

AG Properties (AGP) introduced the Disney XD series Packages from Planet X at Licensing Expo. The new property, targeting boys ages 7 to 11, gives AGP a presence in this demographic and adds to its roster of characters, including Strawberry Shortcake, Care Bears, and Holly Hobbie. The company has also introduced greeting card brand Boofle.

Packages from Planet X, which debuts in the U.S. on Disney XD on July 13, introduces viewers to 15-year-old Dan Zembrosky, whose ordinary life changes forever the day that strange and wildly powerful packages begin showing up at his front door. AGP will seek out a variety of licensing categories to support the program and its predominantly male audience. Categories to be explored include toys, games, apparel, and back-to-school items.

Boofle, the cuddly and lovable pup, started as a greeting card line and has expanded to more than 15 licensees, including plush, apparel, bedding, jewelry, and candy. After a successful launch in the U.S. at Walmart and other key retailers, AGP has plans to further expand Boofle with products targeting women ages 18 to 40 as well as teens, tweens, and infants worldwide.

  Gwyneth Paltrow at LIE: Keynote Delivered and Brand Launched

During Licensing Expo 2013 in Las Vegas, Gwyneth Paltrow delivered the keynote address entitled, "Brands on the Brink of Global Expansion." She and business partner Tracy Anderson launched fitness brand, the Tracy Anderson brand.

Paltrow also has a lifestyle brand, Gloop, which began life as a newsletter in 2008.

Paltrow and Anderson have created products for the fitness and lifestyle arenas, including exercise equipment, food delivery services, DVDs, and there is sometimes a cross-over between the two brands.

Paltrow commented: "No matter what, we're going to preserve the qualities that have gotten us this far: a discerning eye, a welcoming voice, and a firm foundation of trust. If we do that, I'm confident our success will be driven by what's worked from the start: The strength of what we do, and what we say, and what it means to other people around the world."

  Mattel Looks to Global Growth at Licensing Expo

Mattel Brands and Fisher–Price are transforming their licensing approach to stay better connected to consumers worldwide by creating a new global structure, prioritizing its portfolio of brands, and creating partnerships in ways that foster global growth. Mattel Brands showcased its portfolio highlighting premiere partnerships for its key properties, including Barbie, Monster High, Hot Wheels, and Fisher–Price at Licensing Expo. Partners include American Greetings and Elan Polo International (apparel and gifting); Bivona & Co., Calego International, Franco Manufacturing, and Hunter Amenities (home goods and personal care); Mood Entertainment (music and publishing); and KIDdesigns, Mega Brands, Sakar, and TCG (toys and games).

  Oxford Signs First Deal in Malaysia

Oxford Limited has signed its first deal in Malaysia with Leapro, for the Back to School category as well as for men's luggage, bags and small leather goods. The five year deal was brokered by their agent Interasia & Associates who represent the Oxford brand in China and South East Asia.

"Both the Back to School and bag categories continue to be key areas of growth for the Oxford brand," commented Chris Evans, MD Oxford Limited. "Leapro has a great track record and we look forward to them developing an Oxford range for the Malaysian market."

Leapro is currently preparing and gathering design inspiration for the new University of Oxford collection.

  Activision Publishing Inc. Increases Global Licensing Footprint

Activision Publishing Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Activision Blizzard Inc., has more than doubled its portfolio of licensees in less than one year to more than 150 licensing partners.

Activision's licensing initiatives support Skylanders and Call of Duty, as well as the new video game universe Destiny, from the renowned developer Bungie. The company's Skylanders program is anchored by key global partners, including Penguin, Topps, Rubies, Mega Brands, and PowerA. Newly signed licensees that will support the Skylanders franchise include American Greetings (party goods and greeting cards), KIDdesigns (consumer electronic products), Cortina Leomil Group (athletic shoes and slippers), USAopoly (Skylanders Monopoly), and MZBerger (personal care and novelty stationery).

In addition, Activision has expanded its licensing reach for the Call of Duty franchise in Europe and Australia this year. The company's licensing activities for the brand focus on lifestyle categories, including apparel, gaming headsets, and mobile and electronic accessories, and includes such premier partners as Turtle Beach, BioWorld, PowerA, and Brady Games.

Next year, Activision, in collaboration with Bungie, will launch a focused merchandising program to support the game launch of Destiny. The program will expand as the franchise establishes itself in the marketplace.

  BBC Worldwide adds Head of Merchandising to UK business

BBC Worldwide has appointed Clare Piggott as Head of Merchandising for its UK business.

As part of her new role, Clare will be responsible for managing the licensing strategy and developing relationships with key licensees to achieve revenue and profitability targets for the UK.

Piggott joins BBC Worldwide from The Promotions Factory, where she was General Manager, Retail Promotions, managing business development for major licenses including Disney and Nickelodeon and across brands such as Spiderman, Disney Princess and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

On Clare's appointment, Brian Hill said, "With Clare's background and experience in licensing and merchandising, she will be a major asset to our business. Her arrival comes at a crucial time when BBC Worldwide is focused upon developing and driving its future strategy."

  Pressman Introduces The Smurfs 2 Games, Puzzles

Pressman Toy Corp. has debuted its line of games and puzzles based on the upcoming film The Smurfs 2, from Columbia Pictures and Sony Pictures Animation. The games include Smurfette Pal Size Puzzle, Smurfs to the Rescue Game, Smurfs Whirl & Twirl Game, Smurfs Pop 'n Race, and multiple 24–piece puzzles. Pressman Toy's games and puzzles are available for purchase at mass and specialty retailers nationwide.

  Bunkerbound Signs RAF Deal

Bunkerbound has signed a licensing agreement with the Royal Air Force.

As an official Licensee Bunkerbound will manufacture and sell to retail an officially licensed collection of RAF branded men's luxury gifts for the home, office and travel in addition to a range of commemorative products in 2015, when the RAF Red Arrows will be celebrating its 50th anniversary.

The RAF will work with Bunkerbound to create a high-end range of products incorporating those brand values. Product ranges will include travel bags, wash bags, iPad cases, traditional games and more, all of which will be available at retail in October 2013 ready for Christmas.

  Marvel Showcases Guardians of the Galaxy

Marvel Entertainment LLC has unveiled Marvel's Guardians of The Galaxy. The film features an unlikely cast of characters, including Peter Quill, Gamora, Drax, Groot, and Rocket Raccoon, who must join forces to defeat a cosmic force of epic proportions. Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy arrives in theaters on August 1 of next year.

Hasbro, Disguise, and Sideshow Collectibles are leading the licensing program, and are preparing their product and marketing support. Marvel is expected to unveil several additional partners across all major product categories in the coming months.

  Nickelodeon Acquires Shaun the Sheep in India

Nickelodeon India has acquired merchandising rights of Shaun the Sheep.

Following the show's success amongst 'Nicksters', the brand is set to launch a range of merchandise.

Acquiring the rights from the official international creator Aardman Animations, Nickelodeon has partnered with Toy Triangle for distributing the range which is expected to hit the Indian market by June 2013.

Speaking about this new range, Sandeep Dahiya, SVP & Business Head — Consumer Products, Viacom18 Media Pvt Ltd. commented: "Shaun the Sheep as a show has connected extremely well with the audiences and we're confident that it will engage the audiences as much, outside television as well." He further added, "Aardman Rights has done a great job in making Shaun the Sheep a phenomena in many markets across the world, and its addition surely further strengthens our licensing portfolio that already includes popular characters like SpongeBob Square Pants, Dora the Explorer, Ninja Hattori and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, amongst others."

  Beanstalk Partners with Chef Wolfgang Puck

Beanstalk has partnered with celebrity chef and restaurateur Wolfgang Puck to extend his brand into additional food, beverage, and other complementary categories. Beanstalk will leverage Wolfgang Puck's association with natural, artisanal, and delicious food to bring products to the grocery aisle that use high–quality, innovative, and predominantly organic ingredients.

Austrian–born Wolfgang Puck has become one of the most influential chefs in North America, with an empire that includes a growing number of fine dining restaurants, catering venues, casual restaurants, and branded products. Wolfgang Puck's licensing program originated in 1987 with a line of frozen food. Since then, the program has grown to have a successful presence in food and cookware over the past several years.

  Daniel Tiger's Neighbourhood Sold in Russia, Latin America, Asia

9 Story Entertainment has announced the sale of preschool series, Daniel Tiger's Neighbourhood to Disney Channel in Russia and Disney Junior in Latin America and Southeast Asia.

The series launched last fall on PBS KIDS in the U.S. and CBC in Canada. It has also been licensed to ABC (Australia), Canal+ Family (France), France Télévisions, Super RTL (Germany), Hop TV (Israel), YLE (Finland), NRK (Norway), Zee Learn (Indian Subcontinent), Minika (Turkey), TVNZ (New Zealand), SVT (Sweden) and Luk International for Spain and Portugal.

Daniel Tiger's Neighbourhood recently won Best Preschool Animated Series at the 2013 Kidscreen Awards and the 2013 Cynopsis Kids !magination Award for Best Preschool Series.

The series is co–produced and distributed by 9 Story Entertainment and The Fred Rogers Company.

  CBS Consumer Products Introduces Elementary Book Series

CBS Consumer Products has signed the first licensing deal for the TV show Elementary. Next year, Titan Publishing Group will release a series of original novels created in conjunction with the show's production team that will allow fans to immerse themselves in Sherlock Holmes' eccentric life in contemporary New York City.

The TV series, which stars Jonny Lee Miller as the modern day Sherlock Holmes and Lucy Liu as partner Joan Watson, was recently picked up for a second season. Holmes is a former Scotland Yard consultant and former addict now working for the NYPD. He resides with sober companion Dr. Joan Watson, a gifted surgeon who helps keep Holmes on track. In its first season, Elementary averaged 12.65 million viewers a week and was the No. 1 new series of the season. Elementary airs on CBS on Thursdays at 10 p.m. EST.

  Dreamtex Teams with JCB

Dreamtex has teamed up with JCB, to produce a new range of My 1st JCB themed bedding.

The deal includes quality polycotton bedlinen, fleece blankets, cushions and other accessories, which will be launched in autumn/winter 2013.

Dreamtex's Commercial Director, Andy Downie said: "The JCB story really inspired us. Their enduring commitment to quality and innovation is at the heart of our company philosophy. The brand has a timeless appeal and JCB actively encourage constructive play for children, which parents appreciate.   Paramount Licensing Debuts Worldwide Licensing Partners

Paramount Licensing has signed a raft of partners for the upcoming film World War Z. Hot Topic, the film's exclusive retail promotional partner, will feature merchandise across all 660 of its stores. In addition, Paramount has partnered with leading apparel and accessories company Bioworld to launch an in-theater merchandising program at Regal Cinemas, Cinemark, Muvico Theaters, Starplex Cinemas, and ShowBiz Cinemas theaters. Paramount will also launch limited-edition fan art selected from a group of artists nicknamed "Print Posse."

Additional partners include Jazwares with articulated zombie and hero action figures and plush; University Games with World War Z survival board and card games; Ghoulish Productions with costumes and dress up accessories; Pyramid America with posters, prints, magnets, and buttons; Trends with posters, calendars, and bookmarks; Silver Buffalo with drinkware, blankets, and wall art; Quantum Mechanix with statues, limited edition lithographs, and key chains; and Café Press with apparel, gifts, and novelties.

Publishing partners include Crown Publishing Group with a movie tie-in edition of Max Brooks' novel in paperback, audio book, and e-book formats; Titan Books Ltd. with the Art of World War Z book; and Duckworth Publishing Ltd. with a movie tie–in edition of Max Brooks novel in paperback.

  Rovio Expands Angry Birds Program

Rovio Entertainment, the creator of the Angry Birds brand, announced at the International Licensing Expo in Las Vegas, plans to grow its licensing business.

Rovio Entertainment is partnering with companies and has expanded its licensing team dedicated to its consumer products business.

In addition to announcing the expanded strategic licensing agreement with Hasbro Inc. earlier in June, Rovio Entertainment has entered into further partnerships, including Power A who will develop a full line of mobile and video game accessories; Thermos will develop a line of hydration and storage container; Pez will be selling collectible candy dispensers; Natrol will be creating multivitamins for kids and families; and Gemmy Industries will add Angry Birds-themed Airblown inflatables and Halloween costumes to their 2013 product lineup. Additionally, returning partners will include Amscan and Fifth Sun, Rovio's premiere apparel partner, and Accessory Innovations to name a few.

Rovio has created a long-term growth strategy for its consumer products business and its brands, including Angry Birds, Bad Piggies, Angry Birds Star Wars and the upcoming Angry birds Go! In addition, Rovio is planning to focus on female consumers with Stella, the pink bird in 2014.

  Hasbro Builds on My Little Pony Brand

Hasbro Inc. has expanded the global licensing program for the My Little Pony brand. My Little Pony Equestria Girls, a new full-length feature, recently launched at The Los Angeles Film Festival. Hasbro Studios has partnered with Screenvision to bring this feature to theaters across the U.S. and Canada, and Shout! Factory plans to release the film on DVD later this summer. Key licensing offerings will include publishing from IDW and Little Brown Books for Young Readers, as well as accessories from Fashion Angels.

Hasbro has signed agreements for a series of new deals with European publishers, including Orchard Books, Panini, Planeta Comics, Edizioni BD, and Sogur to bring My Little Pony tales to the UK, Italy, Germany, and the Nordic region.

In addition, Build–A–Bear Workshop launched its Pinkie Pie and Rainbow Dash plush line earlier this year, and will add Twilight Sparkle later this summer. Additional licensees for the fashion and beauty categories include FAB, Jerry Leigh, Truffle Shuffle, Knitmania, Somerbond, H&M, Freegun, and Rudolph Stein. New products will continue to launch throughout the year.

  Extreme Sports Channel Licenses Drinks

Al Gosling, founder of the Extreme Sports Channel and youth lifestyle brand Extreme has announced the launch of a new range of licensed Extreme sports and energy drinks.

The launch marks The Extreme Sports Company's move into the licensing business with the aim of delivering a range of lifestyle products, services and experiences for the youth market under the Extreme brand.

The Extreme Sports Company has awarded Nichols Plc, owners of Vimto Soft Drinks, the license to produce Extreme, a branded sports and energy soft drinks range that will launch at retail in the UK this July. The drinks range consists of two products; 'Extreme Energy' and 'Extreme Sport' targeting the 18–34 year olds.

Vimto is supporting the campaign with a number of sampling events and in store promotions across the UK. The Extreme Sports Company is supporting the launch with appearances and demonstrations by its Extreme Ambassadors — a network of grass roots experts including star of the BMX scene Tom Isted — at key events and on its social media platforms during the summer.

  Nickelodeon, Peavey Partner for TMNT Instruments, Accessories

Nickelodeon and Peavey Electronics have partnered to create musical instruments and accessories inspired by the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (TMNT) brand. The instruments feature Leonardo, Michelangelo, Raphael, Donatello, April O'Neil, and Splinter artwork.

Products include custom designed guitars, straps, and guitar picks. The instruments will be specially designed for TMNT enthusiasts, collectors, and musicians of every skill level from beginner to professional. The instruments will be available this fall at specialty and major national retailers.

  Giggle and Hoot's Gigglearium Wins Silver at Promax World DBA Design Awards

The Gigglearium set won the design award at the 2013 DBA Design Awards on Los Angeles on 20 June 2013.

Jan Stradling, EP of Giggle and Hoot, commented: "Congratulations to the ABC Design Department and of course, the 'Giggle and Hoot' team with special mention to Natalie Robinson–Hurst and Clare Gerber for bringing the concept to life. It's wonderful to see this local ABC production getting such critical acclaim both at home and overseas," said Jan Stradling.

This award joins a list of local and international critical awards and nominations since Giggle and Hoot first went to air in 2010.

  Self Magazine Unveils Branded Line of Fitness Products

Self magazine, a Condé Nast publication, and licensing agent FremantleMedia have unveiled the new line of Self–branded fitness products that will launch later this year. The product line was developed under license by CAP Barbell Inc.

Self's fitness products are designed to help women enjoy beautifully designed workout tools while achieving their fitness goals, including weight loss, increased flexibility, and muscle toning. Products will include hand weights, fitness hoops, weighted balls, yoga mats, weighted vests, and jump ropes. Each piece of equipment will include QR codes linking consumers to for online tips about proper use, as well as exercise routines designed by Self specifically for each particular piece of equipment.

  NECA, Fox Consumer Products Announce Simpsons Guest Star Merchandise

National Entertainment Collectibles Association (NECA) and Twentieth Century Fox Consumer Products have partnered for an exclusive global merchandise program for The Simpsons. The limited-edition boutique collection, announced at Licensing Expo, will feature 25 of the greatest guest stars who have appeared as themselves on The Simpsons. The first five guest stars to be featured will include James Brown, Tom Hanks, Kid Rock, Yao Ming, and Hugh Hefner.

Available to consumers early next year, the collection will feature diverse product rollouts, highlighting the guest stars' animated likeness as depicted on the show. New products will be introduced every two to three months, containing different groupings of guest stars, with limited quantities available at select pop–up shops and retailers worldwide.

  Penguin in Global Deal with MGL's Marsh Mellow

Penguin Children's announced an exclusive global publishing and IP partnership deal for the pre-school brand Marsh Mellow, created by MGL.

Penguin Children's acquired digital, film / TV rights as well as merchandising rights for toys and gaming. The first product to launch will be a range of pre–school activity and sticker books with a story book line to follow. MGL will handle all other categories including apparel, back to school, household and accessories.

  Entertainment One Family Expands U.S. Reach Of Peppa

Entertainment One Family has signed five new licensing agreements, as well as several line extensions in the toy, book, and DVD categories for Peppa Pig. New licensees include TCG (games and puzzles), Fast Forward (bags, luggage, and accessories), Added Extras (hair accessories, bath products, lip balm, and costume jewelry), Underground Toys (collectibles), and Redan Publishing (magazines).

In addition, current licensees will expand their product offerings. Fisher–Price will launch new toys; Scholastic and Candlewick Press will launch new board, soft cover, and hardcover books; and Entertainment One will have a new DVD, Bubbles.

  Olly the Little White Van Coming to Milkshake

Olly the Little White Van, the popular animated pre–school show has seen a new broadcast deal with Milkshake on Channel 5.

The channel has acquired two new series (26 x 5) of Olly the Little White Van and will launch on Channel 5 in Autumn 2013. Created and developed in the UK by independent production company Ideas at Work Ltd, the new 26 episodes will be the third and fourth series in its portfolio, taking the programming slate up to 70 episodes.

  Uglydoll Collaborates with Universal Monsters for New Plush

Pretty Ugly LLC has partnered with Universal Partnerships and Licensing to develop a new series of Uglydoll plush dolls based on the Universal Monsters. The Universal Monsters series of dolls will make its retail debut during the Halloween season. Gund, a division of Enesco, will offer these co-branded characters, including Wedgehead as Frankenstein, Ice–Bat as Dracula, Ox as Wolfman, Tray as Bride of Frankenstein, Big Toe as the Creature from the Black Lagoon, and Babo as Mummy. The first series of plush dolls will launch this fall and will be available at retailers nationwide. Becomes Partner at MemBrain

  Spin Master, Shogakukan–Shueisha Productions Co. Partner for New Series

Spin Master Entertainment and Shogakukan–Shueisha Productions Co. Ltd. (ShoPro) have partnered to launch Tenkai Knights, a new animated TV show, on Cartoon Network later this year. The show revolves around Guren, Ceylan, Chooki, and Toxsa, who were not planning on being heroes when they accidentally stumbled into an inter-dimensional portal. Ripped through space and time, they reemerged on another world as Bravenwolf, Tributon, Lydendor, and Valorn—the legendary Tenkai Knights.

As a follow up to Bakugan Battle Brawlers, Tenkai Knights will feature 52 episodes, webisodes, an interactive website, and an extensive toy line. Spin Master is responsible for distributing Tenkai Knights in North and South America. ShoPro will distribute the series in Asian territories, and Viz Media Europe in EMEA territories.

  Paul Frank to Collaborate with Native American Designers

Paul Frank has announced a fashion collaboration with four Native American designers from different tribes and regions across the country. Set to debut in August, the collaboration fuses the iconic Paul Frank brand with four different artist's aesthetics, each rooted in their heritage.

Louie Gong, a designer from the Nooksack tribe who creates custom drawings and paintings on materials, will design a silk-screened canvas tote bag for the collection. Candace Halcro, from the Plains Cree/Métis tribes, is skilled with the classic Native American beading technique and will showcase her talents on authentic Paul Frank sunglasses. Dustin Martin, a graphic T–shirt fashion designer from the Navajo tribe, is using a phrase taught to him by his grandfather to inspire the prints of the famous Paul Frank character, Julius. Autumn Dawn Gomez, a jewelry designer from the Comanche/Taos tribes, is creating accessories inspired by various landscapes, which have impacted her life.

To unveil the collection, Paul Frank has partnered with the Institute of American Indian Arts Museum of Contemporary Native Arts (MoCNA) to host an event in Santa Fe, NM on August 16 during SWAIA's annual Indian Market Week. The event will showcase each of these designers and preview their limited-edition pieces for the Paul Frank line for the very first time. These items will then be sold in the MoCNA Store.

  marblemedia Signs The Licensing Shop to Represent New Series

marblemedia has partnered with boutique licensing agency The Licensing Shop Inc. to expand its newest TV series Japanizi: Going, Going, Gong! into a line of consumer products that will be available in North America. The Licensing Shop will be responsible for securing licensees in key categories, including toys, board games, publishing, video games, and apparel.

Currently in production, all episodes are shot in front of a live studio audience on a colorful set filled with conveyor belts and Velcro walls. Japanizi: Going, Going, Gong! features three elimination rounds to present one final winner in each episode. Every half-hour will feature four teams of two contestants who are dropped into an unfamiliar Japanese world filled with crazy costumes, physical gags, and over–the–top stunts.

  Licensing and Brand Management Executive Paul Flett Joins UTA

Veteran licensing and brand management executive Paul Flett has joined United Talent Agency (UTA). Flett joins UTA from Skechers USA Inc., where he served as senior vice president of global brand licensing since 2009. At Skechers USA Inc., Flett was responsible for globally licensing the Skechers brand to third parties. Flett expanded the licensee business from five to 58 licensees and executed an unparalleled partnership with Li & Fung, the world's largest sourcing company, to design and market a full line of fitness and fashion apparel around the Skechers fitness lines GoRun and GoWalk. Additionally, Flett executed a promotional partnership with Procter & Gamble for the new Bob's by Skechers philanthropic brand, donating thousands of new shoes to children in need. In January 2011, Flett helped forge a new division of Skechers, Skechers Entertainment, to create branded entertainment geared toward the Skechers kids market.
