Genius Brands International Inc. (GBI) will debut its retail program for the Baby Genius brand throughout North America this September.

With a growing roster of licensees, GBI has added two key partners to the Baby Genius family: Winfat Industrial Company Ltd., which produces the Winfun brand, to design and develop early learning toys with a musical focus; and DGL USA to produce musical instruments and toys, dance mats, karaoke machines, and plastic bath toys under the Baby Genius banner. Both product lines will be available this fall.
Additional licensees include Manhattan Toy for soft toys; PBS Distribution for DVDs, CDs, and digital content; Zak Designs for a line of mealtime products; LeapFrog for Baby Genius LeapPad; and Cupcake Digital and Black Lantern for apps.

DreamWorks Launches DTR Program at Wal-Mart

DreamWorks Animation has created a multi-category, direct-to-retail licensing program that will feature characters from its Shrek, Madagascar, and How to Train Your Dragon franchises to launch at Wal-Mart stores in the U.S. The program will include a range of products across infant/toddler, personal care, and grocery categories.
Madagascar-themed toddler training pants and baby wipes will be the first products to hit Wal-Mart shelves, followed by bath soaps and scrubbing bath mitts shaped like the characters from the film. In the cereal aisle, Mom Brands breakfast cereals will debut Dragon Adventure Crunch, S’mores Jungle Party, Operation: Chocolate Mix, and Ogre Os. A range of fruit snacks and hot cereals featuring characters from How to Train Your Dragon, Shrek, Madagascar, and Home will be available later this year.
To support the program, DreamWorks Animation and Los Angeles-based digital agency Fuel have teamed up to create the My DreamWorks Reward mobile app where shoppers can scan in their specially marked packaging and unlock a series of original activities and interactive experiences.

eOne Partners with Build-A-Bear for Peppa Pig Product Line

Entertainment One Licensing (eOne) and Build-A-Bear Workshop have entered into a new partnership for eOne’s preschool property Peppa Pig. A new Peppa Pig product line will be available in Build-A-Bear Workshops in the UK and online starting October 9, and in the U.S. and Australia later in the year.
Build-A-Bear guests will be able to create their own customized Peppa Pig plush toy with a variety of outfit and accessory options. The line will feature a five-in-one sound chip, two outfit options, and even Peppa Pig’s signature teddy bear.

Spin Master Signs On for The Secret Life of Pets

Universal Partnerships & Licensing (UP&L), Illumination Entertainment, and Spin Master will partner to market and distribute toy products globally for The Secret Life of Pets, the fifth animated feature-film collaboration from Illumination and Universal Pictures.
For The Secret Life of Pets, which centers on the lives that pets lead after their owners leave for work or school each day, Spin Master has the rights to develop a wide variety of toys. In addition to traditional plush and figurines, Spin Master has developed interactive and motorized toys that will bring the pets to life in unexpected ways.
Products will be on shelves beginning next May.

Angry Birds to Debut in Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade

Rovio Entertainment has announced that an Angry Birds balloon will be part of this year’s Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York City.
A yet to be revealed character from the Angry Birds movie, set for worldwide release next May, will make its debut at this iconic event on November 26. More than 3.5 million spectators line the streets of Manhattan for the parade, and 57 million viewers tune into the live telecast.
The three-year deal confirms Angry Birds' involvement in the parade until 2017.

Care Bears to Debut at Build-A-Bear Workshop Next Year

American Greetings Properties (AGP), the intellectual property and outbound licensing division of American Greetings Corp., has entered into a global collaboration with Build-A-Bear Workshop that will feature the Care Bears brand at Build-A-Bear Workshops. This limited-time worldwide promotion will begin next year.
Guests can create their own stuffable plush toys and choose from a range of accessories to personalize their huggable bears. The Care Bears collection will be available at Build-A-Bear Workshops around the world, including Australia, Bahrain, Canada, Denmark, Germany, Ireland, Japan, Kuwait, Mexico, Northern Ireland, Norway, Oman, Singapore, South Africa, Sweden, Thailand, Turkey, the UK, the United Arab Emirates, and the U.S.

Gund to Create Huggy Buddha Plush

Huggy Buddha, the “gift with thought,” and plush manufacturer Gund have entered a global, multi-year partnership brokered by Remarkable Brands. Per the agreement, Gund will manufacture and distribute a full line of Huggy Buddha plush formats, including sound toys, backpack clips, and activity blankets, as well as stationery products and hard goods.
The agreement covers all retail channels, including department stores, mid-tier specialty stores, baby retailers, and more, with product planned to roll out in time for the 2015 holiday season.

Jennifer Oz LeRoy Secures Tavern on the Green Trademark

Jennifer Oz LeRoy has officially regained the rights to the Tavern on the Green trademark—outside of the tri-state area. In partnership with All American Licensing and Management Group (AALMG), LeRoy will create a line of Tavern on the Green products, and a new series of restaurants under the Tavern on the Green name.
AALMG will seek partners for Tavern on the Green across categories, including tabletop, glassware, flatware, cookware, home accessories and décor, linens, and food and beverage.
LeRoy will establish a series of Tavern On The Green luxury restaurants across the world, including Tavern on the Green Polo West, which will open in Wellington, FL this October. The 350-seat restaurant will have 15 acres of polo fields and an arena that can accommodate equestrian activities.

PercyVites Signs with MGA Entertainment and Zodiak Kids

PercyVites, a digital party invitation platform, is adding Lalaloopsy and Tickety Toc to its selection of premium kids’ licenses. The two new properties join existing licenses, including Max & Ruby, Arthur, Caillou, Johnny Test, and more.
Through the agreement with MGA Entertainment, PercyVites will develop a digital party product line based on the Lalaloopsy franchise by combining various clips of the animates series to create fun and personalize digital party invitations and thank yous.
The licensing deal with Zodiak Kids gives PercyVites the digital party product rights to the Tickety Toc brand to create an immersive digital experience where viewers can see themselves interacting with the series' characters.

Pool Heaters Licensed by LMCA

LMCA has announced the signing of a trademark licensing agreement with Hayward Industries for Trane-branded pool heaters. Trane, a leading global provider of indoor comfort solutions and services and a brand of Ingersoll Rand, is the most trusted name in residential heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC). Similarly, Hayward is the industry leader in pool equipment.  
Trane pool heaters will be available in the U.S. for installation in summer 2015. The license was brokered by Trane’s licensing agent, LMCA.


ITVS GE Acquires Poldark License

ITV Studios Global Entertainment (ITVS GE) will create a consumer products program for Poldark, the new TV adaptation of Winston Graham’s book series. Co-produced by Mammoth Screen and Masterpiece, Poldark currently airs in the UK on BBC One and has been commissioned for a second series.
ITVS GE is seeking licensing partners in categories including apparel and accessories, homewares, gifting, stationery, and personal care. Merchandise will target the female adult market, with a secondary audience of gift buyers and men. Its first partner Danilo will create a calendar inspired by the series, set to debut at UK retail this fall.

Dental and Vision Care Plan from Televisa and Univision

Univision Communications and Mexican media organisation Televisa recently announced a partnership with EC Benefit Plans, LLC and Careington International Corporation to launch “El Chavo Plan,” a new discount dental and vision care savings program inspired by the iconic Mexican character, El Chavo del Ocho. The El Chavo Plan will offer discounts on most dental and eye care offered through a nationwide network of participating practitioners.
El Chavo Plan, available to individuals and families, offers memberships available for purchase online or by calling the toll-free number in English or Spanish. Plan members can select any participating dentist or eye care professional from the participating nationwide networks and pay the discounted fees listed by simply presenting their membership card and paying the provider directly for the services rendered. Without limitations on care, complicated forms to fill out, or qualifications to access, members will be able to save 20-50% on dental care, and 5-30% on vision care.
El Chavo del Ocho family sitcom has 100 million daily viewers worldwide and has aired 1,300 episodes since premiering in 1971.  El Chavo Del Ocho airs Monday through Friday on UniMás and Monday through Saturday on Galavisión. The animated series El Chavo Animado, airs on Univision bringing the nostalgia and popularity of the original series to a new generation of viewers.

Masha and the Bear Secures Two New Licensees in the Italian Market

Maurizio Distefano Licensing has announced two major licensees in the Italian market for the preschool series Masha and the Bear.
Gabel, a leading group in the textile sector with a full range of home linens, will develop a range of Masha and the Bear-themed bed linens, and Nemesi, a leading maker of high-quality licensed timepieces, will supply Masha and the Bear wall clocks, alarm clocks, and watches. Set to hit retail shelves in Italy this September, the line will feature imagery of Masha, her big bear friend, and the show’s supporting cast of friendly animals.
The animated series airs on DeA Junior and RaiYoYo in Italy where transmissions of the entire first two 26-episode seasons are in progress.

Rainbow Signs Book Deal for Royal Academy

Italian studio Rainbow has signed a major book deal for its brand new animated comedy Royal Academy (working title),with Italian publisher Fabbri Editori set to work on a range of titles.
The new agreements will see Fabbri Editori develop a full range of titles, including storybooks and activity and novelty formats, based on the magical new show. The titles will be distributed via bookstores and mass-market outlets.
“To have a publishing deal signed before the show has even broadcast shows the strength of this new property,” says Cristiana Buzzelli, VP, Contents – Digital and Publishing at Rainbow. “Fabbri Editori will make use the show’s hilarious and exciting scripts and beautiful imagery to create a magical range of books.”
The show takes some of our best-loved fairy tales and turns them on their head. It focuses on the adventures of Rose – a seemingly normal young girl who one day discovers she is actually Rose Cinderella, granddaughter of Cinderella herself. Not only that, but Rose finds out she been enrolled at Royal Academy – the exclusive school for fairy tale characters. She joins Hawk SnowWhite, Travis Beast, Hope LeFrog and Astoria Rapunzel as new students and they are all eager to shine.

Bulldog Signs New Licenses for Shopkins

UK-based Bulldog Licensing has added four more licensees to the licensing program for Shopkins, the red-hot collectible that recently won the girls category Toy of The Year Award at the New York Toy Fair, adding to its Collectable of the Year award from the BTHA.
Shopkins are cute characters that live in Shopville. There are 148 to collect in each series, including limited edition and ultra rare characters. They are sold inside little shopping bags and despite only having been on the market for a few months the brand has sparked a craze that has swept the world, fuelled by an online presence that has seen over twenty million hits on the official Shopkins Youtube channel with over 400 million views across fan videos. Retailers across the UK are struggling to satisfy demand and air freighting new product to cope.
The new partners are Sambro for bags and umbrellas; Spearmark for lunchware, tableware, drinkware and lighting; Topps for collectable cards, trading cards, sticker products and accessories; and VMC Accessories for headwear, scarves, gloves, sunglasses and phone/tablet cases & accessories.
This adds to a large existing program that includes NJ Screenprints (apparel) Aykroyds TDP (nightwear and underwear), Autumn Publishing (publishing), Character World (bedding and beanbags), RMS International (arts and crafts), Pedigree (annuals), DJ Murphy (magazines), Winning Moves (games), Pyramid (posters) and Whitehouse Leisure (amusement plush).

V&A Signs Licensed Shoe Collection

The Victoria and Albert Museum has announced the launch of its first licensed shoe collection, created in partnership with the global footwear brand, Clarks. The first of three seasons launched on 13 June with a collection of shoes for men women and children that features re-imagined styles drawn from two iconic decades in British fashion history: the 1950s Teddy Boy look and 1980s club culture.
Inspired by the Museum’s outstanding textiles and fashion archives and Clarks’ own archives, this first collection is infused with British heritage and craftsmanship. The V&A x Clarks collaboration is a contemporary design interpretation of objects in the Museum’s archives that will resonate with an international retail market and, is the V&A’s first license collaboration with a footwear brand.
Clarks are also headline sponsor of the V&A’s summer 2015 fashion exhibition, Shoes: Pleasure and Pain, which opened on 13 June, and runs until 31 January 2016.

DC Thomson Buys Women’s Lifestyle Title

Dundee-based media company DC Thomson has purchased the Scottish women’s lifestyle title, No.1 Magazine.
Published to date by PSP Publishing Limited, No.1 Magazine has been in circulation for almost 10 years.  As Scotland’s glamorous glossy magazine, the title captures everything Scottish from celebrity news, fashion and beauty to interior trends, fitness, food and events.
No.1 Magazine will join DC Thomson’s stable of publications with immediate effect.  Existing No.1 Magazine staff members will transfer to the company’s Glasgow office in Skypark.  Issue 158 (dated July 31st) will be the first published by DC Thomson. Ellis Watson, CEO of DC Thomson Publishing, said, “No.1 Magazine will complement our existing brands, in particular our mature and women’s titles, and strengthen our magazines portfolio.  It fits nicely as a Scottish sister alongside our other titles like My Weekly and Scottish Wedding Directory.”


Chinese Fashion License for The Simpsons      

The Simpsons is the subject of an all-new fashion collaboration between Twentieth Century Fox Consumer Products and Her-Chain, to be launched in 2015. Fox Consumer Products recently announced the collaboration with Her-Chain Clothing (Shanghai) Company Limited - supported by HongFang Group and will launch the first Simpsons flagship stores in China.
In the last few years The Simpsons brand has seen collaborations with some of the top brands in the world including LEGO, Uniqlo, Selfridges, Minecraft, VISA, Burger King, Apple and some of the top football teams including FC Barcelona and England’s Chelsea. Additionally, The Simpsons has grown into a fashion brand with recent collaboration with Joyrich, Bathing Ape, MAC Cosmetics, and Jeremy Scott, to name just a few.
Her-Chain Clothing is a Multi-brand operation enterprise, with independent retailer brands. It is managing multiple domestic and international brands involved in a number of areas like fashion, sports, lifestyle and leisure. 9 Story Media Group Enters Chinese Market

9 Story Media Group has partnered with Chinese media company Sunshine Culture and Communication Co. Ltd. in Beijing. Under the terms of the deal, Sunshine has taken all rights within the territory for the preschool series Peg + Cat and Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood.
Peg + Cat and Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood are co-productions of The Fred Rogers Company and 9 Story Media Group for PBS Kids.

eOne Plans Major Peppa Pig Launch in China

China Central Television (CCTV) has acquired the broadcast rights for Entertainment One Licensing’s (eOne) preschool series Peppa Pig.
Peppa Pig will debut on CCTV’s kid’s channel CCTV 14 Kids on June 23, and Peppa Pig content will launch on video on demand platforms. eOne is working closely with CCTV to create dedicated digital content for the Chinese market. This will include an official Peppa Pig website, and a range of online promotions that will be hosted on CCTV’s online platforms in support of show’s launch in China.
PPW has been appointed as the licensing agent for the brand in China. With the first partners already signed, PPW is responsible for developing a comprehensive consumer products program for the brand across all key categories. King Bee is on board as the master toy licensee, and Penguin China will build the publishing category through bilingual and local languages with a variety of formats. Products will launch at all key retail channels starting in July.

Publisher for Purple Turtle

Aadarsh Pvt. Ltd. has joined hands with leading publisher Jarir Distribution Book Shop, to launch Purple Turtle books in Abu Dhabi.  India-based IP development company, Aadarsh Pvt. Ltd has signed with leading children’s book publisher in UAE, Jarir Distribution Book Shop Ltd to produce a line of children’s story book products for the company’s anchor property, Purple Turtle, for Abu Dhabi.
Manish  Rajoria,  Director  of  Licensing  and  publishing of  the Purple Turtle  brand, noted,  “The Purple Turtle books feature stories that guide and stimulate a child’s mind. Creative stories that provide great learning while having fun experiences. This deal permits us to expand the books growing popularity even further. Originally  introduced  in  2012,  the   Purple  Turtle  books  have  been published  in  27  countries including USA,  UK,  China,  Russia,  in six  regional  languages  in  India  with over 1  million  copies  published  to  date.


Coolabi Group Appoints Australian agent for Clangers

UK based Coolabi Group recently announced the appointment of The Fusion Agency as licensing and merchandising agent for Clangers in Australia and New Zealand and a deal with key licensing partner Big Balloon in Australia.
Clangers launches on CBeebies in Australia later this month and on Australian national broadcaster ABC network early 2016. This partnership with The Fusion Agency will see the company represent Clangers in Australia and New Zealand, for the purpose of establishing licensing, merchandising and promotional programs for this pre-school property.
Having experienced success across multiple platforms and territories, The Fusion Agency is well placed to offer international representation for Clangers, building the brand within the region.
In addition, Coolabi Group has signed a deal with Big Balloon, who will release a range of plush and plastic toys developed by Master Toy partner in the UK, Character Options.
Coolabi’s existing global publishing deal with Penguin will see the distribution of brand new books in Australia and New Zealand in a variety of different formats including; story books, board books, novelty books, sticker and activity books, sound books, puppet books, annuals, audio books and e-books.
