The Bridge Direct Expands C3 Construction Line with Monster Jam License

Feld Entertainment and The Bridge Direct have partnered for a multi-year global licensing agreement to develop and market Monster Jam Construction Sets. The line will be under The Bridge Direct’s C3 Construction line, letting kids create, construct, and customize a play experience based on the live events.
The products target young fans of the franchise and the line will center around the iconic Monster Jam trucks. The construction sets will debut at retailers next fall.

MGA Appoints Anne Gates as President

MGA Entertainment (MGAE) has appointed Anne Gates as president. Gates joined MGAE in early 2014 and MGA says she has proven to be a strategic and creative leader for the company’s portfolio of family entertainment franchises. In her new role, Gates will oversee all of MGAE’s global businesses and operations.
Gates previously served as global executive vice president and chief financial officer of Disney Consumer Products, where she oversaw all business development, finance, IT, global franchise marketing and North American sales. Prior to that role, she was executive vice president and managing director at Disney Consumer Products—Europe, in London. Previously, she worked in various other divisions at The Walt Disney Company, including Disney Interactive. Prior to joining Disney, Gates worked for PepsiCo, Bear Stearns, and AT&T.

Epic Rights Named Global Agent for Jefferson Airplane

Jefferson AirplaneEpic Rights has been named global licensing agent for Jefferson Airplane. In representing the Jefferson Airplane brand, Epic Rights will expand on the colorful look and feel of the tie-dye, psychedelic ’60s rock brand, incorporating both the band’s album art and its rich photographic imagery into a broad range of consumer products and services to be released in conjunction with the bands 50th Anniversary celebration in 2015. The imagery and fantastical array of colors tap into apparel, accessories, home décor, stationery/paper goods, collectibles, gifts and novelty, and publishing.

Teva, BBC International Sign Licensing Deal

Teva, a division of Deckers Outdoor Co., has signed a licensing agreement with BBC International to license the brand’s children’s wholesale business in the U.S. The transition will begin this month and will impact the brand’s product offering next year.

Two Genius Brands International Animated Shows to Be Featured on LeapFrog Platforms

Genius Brands International Inc. (GBI) has signed an agreement with LeapFrog Enterprises Inc. to feature GBI’s Baby Genius Secret Millionaires Club and Thomas Edison’s Secret Lab content in LeapFrog’s library of learning content for the LeapPad line of kids’ learning tablets, including LeapPad Ultra and LeapPad 2 Custom Edition.
Secret Millionaires Club teaches kids the importance of financial responsibility and good money management while reinforcing math skills. The series airs in the U.S. on The Hub Network. Thomas Edison’s Secret Lab is a new animated series that encourages kids to engage themselves in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) explorations with the help of a hologram of Thomas Edison. An interactive website, digital applications, toys, games, electronics, and an in-school curriculum are in development for the brand.
Baby Genius’ content includes music-based products sourced from a library featuring 500 songs and 125 music videos. GBI has most recently debuted Little Genius Jukebox, the first in a series of interactive 3-D animated apps. 

WBCP, DC Comics Celebrate Heroic Dads This Father’s Day

Warner Bros. Consumer Products (WBCP) has an array of Father’s Day products inspired by DC Comics’ iconic characters. The line will give kids of all ages the opportunity to celebrate their superhero this Father’s Day.
WBCP’s Superman Hall of Heroes is an online gift-giving portal that allows consumers to honor their personal heroes by submitting their photo and story online. Consumers can choose from multiple gift-giving options and levels, with packages ranging in price. Through Father’s Day, a portion of the proceeds will go to The Christopher & Dana Reeve Foundation.

SeaWorld Pursues Broadcast and Licensing Partners for Three
New Animated Properties

SeaworldSeaWorld Parks & Entertainment will scout broadcast and licensing partners for three new animated properties, Billy Green Builds, The Jungle Bunch, and Yonaguni, next week during the Licensing Expo in Las Vegas.
Created in partnership with Little Airplane Productions, Billy Green Builds follows the adventures of 7-year-old Billy Green and his sidekick Moxy who travel the globe in a solar-paneled vehicle to help animals in trouble. The series is targeted toward preschoolers.
The Jungle Bunch is for kids ages 5 to 8 and is an animated series that features the adventures of a group of unlikely wildlife heroes, including a penguin who thinks he’s a tiger, a crooning warthog, and a bat who’s afraid of the dark. 
Yonaguni is a youth action-comedy series in which a group of underwater heroes-in-training, the Yonaguni, learn how to protect the planet and its creatures. The show is designed for kids ages 6 to 11.
SeaWorld will also promote a new direct-to-consumer, multimedia platform called Generation Nature, which includes web, digital apps, video blogs, and online games and activities. The platform features teen animal conservationist Bindi Irwin and encourages kids to take action to protect animals and their habitats. 

DHX Media Launches DHX Brands

DHX Media, a leading independent creator, producer, distributor and licensor of children’s entertainment content, is bringing all its licensing and merchandising activity together under a new dedicated consumer products arm: DHX Brands. The new division will focus all activity around the company’s core slate of licensed properties under the DHX Brands banner, bringing together licensing, brand management, and creative services teams.
As part of the refocus of DHX Media’s licensing business, Peter Byrne will assume increased responsibility as EVP, DHX Brands, alongside his role as CEO of DHX Media’s subsidiary licensing agency business CPLG. He will be supported by a UK-based team that will have global responsibilities. Tor Bushell takes on the position of VP Brand Management, DHX Brands, responsible for all brand and marketing for the DHX stable of properties. Paul Keech will assume an expanded role as VP Creative Services, DHX Brands, responsible for the creative support for both distribution and consumer products. Tom Roe is appointed Commercial Director, DHX Brands, transitioning from CPLG to oversee all commercial aspects as licensor and manage a growing network of international agents.
CPLG will be the appointed agent for selected DHX Brands in all of their subsidiary territories, including the recently expanded presence in North America under Ted Larkins. Both Erin Dippold and Al Fedrigoni will form part of the new NA Consumer Products team at CPLG reporting to Ted.
DHX Brands will develop licensing strategies for select entertainment brands from the DHX stable including the recently acquired Teletubbies, as well as expanding the support on properties such as Yo Gabba Gabba!,  In the Night Garden, and Caillou. DHX has also recently added the Degrassi franchise to its slate and will be seeking merchandising opportunities for this evergreen entertainment franchise, as well as for Ella the Elephant and Johnny Test. 

Popeye and Olive Oyl in Fashion with Uniqlo

King Features has announced a new collaboration for Popeye and Olive Oyl with global clothing retailer, Uniqlo. Under the UT brand, a collection of men’s and women’s graphic T-shirts, sweatshirts, and hoodies will arrive in-store next month. With a theme of American pop culture for the Popeye and Olive collaboration, the carefully chosen materials and designs convey the UT graphic ideal of current and contemporary.
“Popeye and Olive Oyl are truly global icons, so the beloved characters are well-suited to partner with a global brand like Uniqlo,” says Cathleen Titus, King Features Vice President of International Licensing.

Genius Brands International Forms Global Distribution Division

Genius Brands International (GBI) has expanded with the formation of a new global distribution. Andrew Berman has been appointed for the newly formed position of senior vice president of global sales. He will oversee the new division and worldwide distribution of GBI’s children content catalog across all media platforms.
Berman previously served as vice president of distribution for FreemantleMedia Kids & Family Entertainment, where he launched the series Monsuno and Mattel’s Max Steel in the global market. 


C&M Licensing Signs Apparel License for Q Pootle 5

QPootle5C&M Licensing has signed a deal with Cooneed and Misirli to develop a range of Q Pootle 5 nightwear, underwear, socks, and onesies for the UK and Ireland preschool children’s market. Products featuring the CBeebies character are set to launch at retail by the end of the year.
In the fourth quarter, a new line of books from Walker Books, a magazine from Egmont Publishing, and the first Q Pootle 5 DVD are scheduled for release. These products will add to the existing line of games and puzzles by Jumbo, dress-up and accessories by VMC, and character costumes by Rainbow Productions.
Nick Butterworth, creator of Q Pootle 5, will make a special appearance at the National Space Center in Leicester in the UK on November 28.

Chupa Chups Appoints Biplano as Licensing Agent in Iberia

Chupa ChupsBiplano has been appointed as the exclusive licensing agent for Chupa Chups to represent the brand in Spain, Portugal and Andorra. Biplano plans to roll out a program over the next three years to secure and manage licensees across categories like apparel, home, gift, fashion accessories. The brand will target teenagers.

Angry Birds Stella Game, Animation Series Set to Launch This Fall

StellaRovio Entertainment Ltd., the company behind the Angry Birds franchise, has created an all-new game, Angry Birds Stella.
Angry Birds Stella adds a new cast of characters to the Angry Birds universe: Stella, Poppy, Willow, Dahlia, and Luca. Gale, a good bird gone bad, along with her pig servants, want to take over the bird’s island habitat called Golden Island. All of the birds will work together to find creative solutions to their problems.
Fans will meet Stella and her friends when the game comes out in September. In addition, the characters will have their own weekly animation series on Toons TV that will eventually make its way to TV and video-on-demand. The first season launches in November and will have 13 six-minute episodes each with its own theme, including adventure, heroism, and friendship.
Angry Birds Stella consumer product lines will debut at Licensing Expo from June 17 to 19. Products include Hasbro Telepods figures powered by Retoy, which combine physical and digital play along with other toys, apparel, and accessories. In addition, the first Angry Birds Stella books will be available in September starting in selected markets.

BBC Announces Doctor Who, World Cup 2014 Product Launches   

BBC Worldwide will celebrate the World Cup 2014 and Doctor Who with the launch of products.
BBC Worldwide has announced a range of FIFA World Cup 2014, Doctor Who, Sherlock and Something Special merchandise.
Several new Doctor Who lines will be released, introducing new licensees as well as a new look and feel to its packaging.
Earlier this year, BBC Worldwide appointed Golden Bear Toys to be its Master Toy partner on a new range of CBeebies toys launching in late 2014.
Helping fans cheer on the England team in Brazil, BBC Worldwide brings a raft of 2014 World Cup product to market. Key licensee, Homewin, have a wide range of FA merchandise where football fans can pick up a variety of souvenirs including homeware, car accessories, puzzles, plush toys, key rings, wooden toys, stationary, babyware and nursery product, pet toys, gardenware and Christmas decorations. Debut Sports has created zip pulls and key rings featuring the England squad and are available in Tesco stores, Halfords, Toys R Us, Game and a number of independent retailers. 

Tottenham Hotspur Returning to Licensing Expo 

Tottenham Hotspur Football Club is set to exhibit at the Las Vegas Licensing Expo for a second year running ahead of the team’s tour of USA and Canada this summer.
The Premier League side will visit and play friendly matches in Seattle, Toronto and Chicago during July as the Club continues to engage with a growing fan base in the region.
Tottenham Hotspur currently has 30 Official Supporters Clubs in North America, as well as commercial relationships with the likes of Under Armour and Stub Hub, and a Global Coaching programme that aims to develop soccer at grassroots level in partnership with youth organisations in California, Texas and Maryland.
By exhibiting at the 2014 Licensing Expo, the Club will be looking to expand a growing global portfolio of licensees, which already includes Sports Endeavors Inc (SEI), the biggest online retailer of football merchandise in North America.
Appointed as Tottenham Hotspur’s official licensee in the region, SEI recently experienced its biggest quarter to date in late 2013 for its bespoke range of Tottenham Hotspur apparel, enabling the Club to secure widespread distribution of official product across the market.

Centum Books Appoints Fiona Macmillan 

Centum Books Ltd, independent UK publisher, has appointed children’s publishing expert Fiona Macmillan into the new role of Publishing Director to enhance its licensed publishing business and development of own brand ranges. 
Fiona Macmillan, who joins Centum Books from Random House Children’s Publishers UK, is a respected figure within the publishing industry and brings a wealth of experience from her previous roles.  At RHCP Fiona was responsible for the publishing strategy for 0-7 years, working with leading children’s authors and brand owners including Shirley Hughes, Anthony Browne, Nicholas Allan, CBeebies, Hasbro, Warner Bros and Dreamworks.
Centum Books’ licensed publishing business will benefit from Fiona’s experience as MD of the Children’s Division at Dorling Kindersley, where she worked with Disney, Mattel, Lego and Lucasfilm. Fiona also worked with Templar as Creative Director and Reed Children’s Books as Design Director working across titles including Meg and Mog, Thomas the Tank Engine and Winnie the Pooh.

Imira Expands Deal with Amazon

Imira Entertainment is boosting its on-demand offering through Amazon Instant and Amazon Prime for Lola & Virginia, launching to coincide with summer vacations. 
Lola & Virginia has launched on Amazon Instant and Amazon Prime in North America through a deal brokered by US distributor Viva Pictures Distribution.

JELC Appoints JTL Licensing to License iDoo-B-Doo in Greece

iDoo-B-DooJELC, which represents global licensing for iDoo-B-Doo, has appointed an agent for the Greek market – JTL Licensing.
The initial licensing focus is on greetings cards, arts and crafts, publishing, homeware, stationery and apparel. Although most relevant children’s retail will be targeted, arts and crafts stockists will be a special focus. The first licensed products will be available in the UK later this summer.

Redan Releases Sooty Special

Smiley to Appear in Just Dance

Smiley will appear in the video game, Just Dance 2015, Ubisoft’s latest installment of the dance game franchise.
Just Dance 2015 was revealed at the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) in Los Angeles, during the Ubisoft press conference. A trailer including gameplay footage of the song ‘Happy’ by Pharrell Williams was revealed, which features Smiley in the guise of its iconic yellow smiley face.
Just Dance 2015 will be released in EMEA on October 23rd (October 24th in the UK) and in mid-October in the US on all motion control gaming platforms.

New Appointment at The Entertainer

The Entertainer has announced today the appointment of Phil Geary to Marketing Director. 
Geary joins The Entertainer following 10 years at Holland & Barrett, having held a variety of senior buying and marketing positions, most recently as Group Marketing Director for Holland & Barretts' parent company NBTY.  Phil oversaw the marketing & online functions for over 900 stores across the UK, Ireland and Holland and all of the brands e-commerce activities.  He was instrumental in the drive to put together Holland & Barrett’s first TV campaign right up to the current "Good Life" campaign and latterly the introduction of the Rewards for life loyalty programme in 2011 which now boasts over 5 million members. 
Phil left Holland & Barrett in 2013 to join Bounty, the parenting club.  Boasting over 10 million active members and 1 million weekly unique site visitors, Phil has helped the brand better understand its consumer, personalising their experience and ensuring they are served the right content & offers at the right time.  


HIT Entertainment, Exim Tech Give Digital Boost to Barney and Fireman Sam

Barney and Fireman SamHIT Entertainment has partnered with with Exim Technology (Exim Tech) to expand the digital presence of Barney with a new brand website, which will include brand information, character bios, games, activites, a parent section, and videos. The purple dinosaur can also be found on the new Facebook fan page, Twitter, and a YouTube channel, while three new Barney apps have been developed for iOS and Android devices specifically for children and families in Latin America. All the digital extensions will be available in Spanish, Portuguese, and English.
HIT and Exim Tech have also partnered for a digital launch of Fireman Sam (Sam El Bombero) on YouTube and social media in Colombia, Chile, and Peru. The digital extensions for Barney and Fireman Sam will launch this month.
Fireman Sam will be introduced in Latin America for the first time with the brand’s digital launch. Fireman Sam content will be available on YouTube, which will be programmed with new CGI-animated Fireman Sam content every Thursday in Colombia, Chile, and Peru this summer. In addition, Fireman Sam will launch in Colombia, Chile, and Peru with a localized version of the global Fireman Sam website, as well as a fan page on Facebook and a presence on Twitter in Spanish specific to these countries. 


CPLG, Merchantwise to Represent Sony Pictures Consumer Products 

CPLG will represent upcoming Sony Pictures Consumer Products feature film and TV properties for merchandise, retail, and publishing in Italy and France, effective immediately. In addition, Merchantwise will represent the company in Australia and New Zealand.
Properties included in the new deal are upcoming films Goosebumps and Hotel Transylvania 2, TV series Breaking Bad, and additional upcoming Sony Pictures Television releases.
