Guardians of the Galaxy Set to Launch at Retail Ahead of Theatrical Release

Guardians of the GalaxyLicensees and retailers are preparing for high fan demand for merchandise inspired by Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy in anticipation of the upcoming movie. More than 50 licensees are on board with product placed at mass, mid-tier, specialty, and online retail channels. Products are set to launch in mid-June.
 
The upcoming movie is unique to any others in the Marvel franchise, which had made it appealing to manufacturers and consumers. Rocket Raccoon is the breakout character, and licensees are anticipating demand for Rocket-inspired products. In addition, Star-Lord’s obsession with the ’80s has created a platform for a wide range of ’80s nostalgia apparel and accessories.

In April, Amazon sold out of the Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy 6-inch Legends action figures from Hasbro in three days, which was the best pre-order for toys Amazon has had to date. The products has received major mass retailer commitment, including a cross-category pallet program at Wal-Mart; top placement for Hasbro and Lego toy lines in all key accounts; a heavily promoted party goods program with Party City; confirmed back to school presence at Target and Wal-Mart; and a female teen trend retailer commitment for T-shirts and accessories.
 
Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy will launch in theaters on August 1.

Epic Rights Named Global Licensing Agent for Contemporary Artist Gary Baseman

Epic Rights has been named the global licensing agent for contemporary artist Gary Baseman. Epic Rights will implement a licensing strategy to develop the Gary Baseman brand based on the artist’s illustrative works and family of characters, and will launch with Toby, Creamy, and The Wild Girls.
 
The primary program will target adults ages 18 to 35, and will feature product categories including apparel, accessories, home décor, stationery, collectibles, and publishing.

Hasbro and Aquarius Launch Novelty Collectibles

Aquarius has entered into a licensing agreement with Hasbro to create collectible classic lunch box tins, playing cards, tin deck sets, funky chunky magnets, posters, and home décor. The line will feature My Little Pony, Transformers, Mr. Potato Head, G.I. Joe, Monopoly, and Candyland brands.

Rubie’s to Create Godzilla Halloween Mayhem

Rubie’s Costume Company, under license with Warner Bros. Consumer Products, has announced the launch of officially licensed costumes, hoodies, masks, and accessories based on the motion picture Godzilla, from Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures. Available in child and adult sizes, the Godzilla Costume Collection is inspired by the mythical creature.

Knockout Reveals Little House, Downton, and Boo Plans

 

BOOFriendly Family Productions has appointed Knockout Licensing to develop a classic licensing program for the Little House on the Prairie lifestyle brand throughout the U.S. and Canada.
 
A trio of Downton Abbey licensees have been signed. Chasing Fireflies has been granted the right to produce and sell Downton Abbey Men’s, Women’s and Children’s Dress Up items inspired by the costumes on the television series. North American Bear Company will create a line of Downton Abbey collectible bears, each inspired by a different Downton Abbey character. Underground Toys will manufacture and market a wide range of Downton Abbey novelty items.
 
Knockout Licensing has signed three new licensing deals—as well as a key global licensing renewal—for Boo—The World’s Cutest Dog. Miami-based Weather Creative Inc. has been granted the license to create a Boo theme for its Weather Puppy app for iOS devices. Italy’s Accademia has been granted rights to utilize Boo images on writing instruments, accessories, and a variety of gift Items for the Italian market. VMC Accessories will produce BOO headwear, sunglasses, and more for consumers in the UK & Ireland. This deal was brokered by Caroline Mickler Ltd. as Knockout’s appointed sub-agent for Boo in the UK.

Genius Brands International Redesigns Baby Genius Brand Characters

Genius Brands International Inc. has announced new initiatives for its Baby Genius brand as part of the brand re-launch this year. Fresh and fun redesigns of the signature Baby Genius characters were created by artist Todd Goldman.
 
The company has also introduced an online streaming service, which features the entire Baby Genius content library, and has extended its agreement with Xfinity TV by Comcast.

Mezco Toyz Launches Sons of Anarchy Jax Orange Prison Variant 

Mezco Toyz will launch its Sons of Anarchy Jax Orange Prison Variant action figure as a summer exclusive, available June 13. The limited-edition action figure stands 6 inches tall and wears a state-issued, orange prison jumpsuit like the one in the TV show. The figure comes packaged in a collector-friendly blister package. 

Fireman Sam to Be Sold Exclusively on Amazon

HIT Entertainment has named Amazon the exclusive retailer for Fireman Sam. Amazon will offer consumers TV episodes, e-books, apparel, toys, and lunch boxes. Amazon Instant Video, Prime Instant Video, and FreeTime Unlimited will also feature Fireman Sam TV episodes for streaming. Digital content will be available on June 3, and physical products will be available in October. 

World Tech Toys, WWE Sign Deal for Licensed R/C Helicopters

World Tech Toys has signed a licensing agreement with World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) to design and manufacture WWE-licensed R/C helicopters. They will be based on WWE Superstars Hulk Hogan, John Cena, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, and more. 

Langer’s Juice Promotion for Pac-Man Results in More Than 15,000 Retailers

LandersThe Langer’s juice retail promotion in the U.S., Virgin Islands, and Puerto Rico for Pac-Man and the Ghostly Adventures has reached more than 15,000 retailers. The promotion ran throughout April and May with product partners 41 Entertainment, K’NEX, and Phase 4. Kroger’s, Safeway, Ralph’s, Albertsons, and Wal-Mart were some of the participating stores.
 
As part of the promotion, consumers received one Pac-Man-branded K’NEX toy and one episode at Xboxvideo.com with proof of purchase on specially marked bottles of Langer’s Juice.

Mudpuppy, Downtown Bookworks Sign Licensing Deals with PBS Kids

Brand Extension Agency Parham Santana has secured licensing deals for PBS Kids with Mudpuppy and Downtown Bookworks. Both companies are publishers of children’s products and will help PBS Kids expand its commitment to educating and entertaining children.
 
Downtown Bookworks will create a line that includes interactive board books, craft kits, and brain boosting activity books. Mudpuppy’s line will feature sticker and building sets, puzzles, finger puppets, and other crafting activities. All of the products will be designed to foster creativity, collaboration, communication, and critical thinking in young children.

Tchaboom! Appoints Lawless Entertainment as Worldwide Representative for Three Categories

tchaboom!Lawless Entertainment has been appointed as representative for animation co-production finance and distribution for all media, licensing, and merchandising worldwide for Tchaboom!, a musical animated series for kids.
 
From the creators of Nutri Ventures, the series is about a class of young children, each of whom exhibits a specific weakness. For example, Sophie Slumbers is lazy yet obedient and Penelope Perfect is selfish but determined. The kids will learn how the world would be if everyone had the same weakness using the book of Tchaboom! Half of each episode will be musical.
 
The series is targeted to kids ages 2 to 4 and focuses on the importance of change. Thirteen 11-minute episodes have been completed and an additional 13 episodes will be produced. In addition to the animated series, there will be a website, tablet and smartphone games, e-books, music, and a YouTube channel.
 
Lawless will work to produce licensed products including toys, games, arts and crafts, apparel, costumes, homewares, stationery, and novelty items.

Dylan’s Candy Bar Candy Sculpture Breaks Guinness World Record

Dylan's Candy BarDylan’s Candy Bar broke the Guinness World Record for the world’s largest candy sculpture with its Wizard of Oz-inspired candy statue. The statue features iconic elements from the film, including the yellow brick road and ruby slippers.
 
Roughly 220 pounds of Jelly Belly jelly beans and 275 pounds of sugar were used to create the 7-foot, 4-inch by six-foot, 8-inch statue and required four days of work to complete.
 
Dylan’s Candy Bar currently offers The Wizard of Oz fans a limited-edition candy collection in celebration of the film’s 75th anniversary.

Westinghouse Electric Corp and Shanghai ICSON in Partnership

Westinghouse Electric Corporation and Shanghai ICSON Co. have entered into a licensing agreement for the exclusive distribution of select Westinghouse branded small home appliances for the mainland Chinese market.
 
Under the agreement, Shanghai ICSON will distribute Westinghouse-branded products in China via Tencent’s primary e-commerce destination, Yixun.com, as well as Tencent’s other e-commerce platforms.

Mind Candy Launches World of Warriors

Mind Candy has announced it will launch a new brand—World of Warriors. The Brighton Mind Candy Studio team has been working on this secret project for the last year and it is the first project outside of the global entertainment property, Moshi Monsters.
 
World of Warriors is an epic combat strategy game with a unique skill element drawing from history’s greatest warriors. The game will be available on iOS and Android and will appeal to casual gamers of all ages, aiming for a 6+ rating.

Entertainment One Celebrates Peppa Pig’s 10th Anniversary in the UK

Entertainment One Licensing (eOne) has unveiled plans for a slate of activity that will celebrate the 10th anniversary of Peppa Pig in the UK with consumers, retailers, broadcasters and licensees. Paying homage to the title of the show’s first ever episode all 10th anniversary tie-ins will be united by the theme of ‘muddy puddles’ which will be central to the creative used in packaging, design, content and marketing.
 
The show’s animation studio, Astley Baker Davies, is currently in production on an anniversary broadcast special. With a running length of 15 minutes, it will mark the longest episode in the show’s history and is scheduled to premiere on Channel 5 Milkshake! and Nick Jr. from November 2014. The episode, entitled ‘Golden Boots’, centres on Peppa’s quest to find her golden boots and take part in a Puddle Jumping Competition.
 
New 10th anniversary product launches are planned across all categories and will be bolstered by a variety of retail events. 

Bulldog Licensing Represents Chalk Bear

Chalk BearBulldog Licensing now represents Chalk Bear, a new character studio by artist Doug Hyde. Hyde will design and develop a range of character brands to be licensed.
 
Hyde has previously worked for Disney, Warner Bros., and Hallmark and has been named Britain’s best-selling artist. 

Millions of Telepod Scans for Rovio

Rovio Entertainment Ltd has announced that fans of the Angry Birds Star Wars II game have scanned their Telepods figures into the game more than 30 million times.
 
Released in September 2013, the game features the most extensive roster of playable characters of any Angry Birds title so far, including the first chance to play as the pigs by joining the Pork Side. At launch, Hasbro introduced the Telepods platform, powered by Retoy, where players use smart devices to “teleport” their physical Telepods figures into game, and released more than 30 different Telepods figures including Rebel Birds and Imperial Pigs.
 
To celebrate this milestone, Rovio is releasing a brand-new chapter for Angry Birds Star Wars II called Rise of the Clones, which brings 44 levels featuring new gameplay elements like wind and water currents.

A selected group of famous Hasbro card games — including Monopoly Deal, Boggle, Cluedo, Trivial Pursuit and Battleships — have now been made available for special promotions.
 
Any company or enterprise can now brand a pack of specially designed cards with its details as part of a special promotion, as a free gift for customers, as a give-away at trade fairs and for many other potential purposes. The packages on offer range from a company logo or brand on the back of each card to selected photographs or images on the playing cards themselves. 

Poppy Cat Expands in U.S. and Spain

Poppy CatCoolabi Group has inked deals with a trio of new partners for its preschool brand Poppy Cat. Agents Firefly Brand Management and El Ocho have been appointed in the USA and Spain respectively, expanding the global reach of the brand.  Cosmic Forces is also developing an educational game app for the property.
 
“We are thrilled to work with Coolabi and develop a cohesive North American consumer products program for Poppy Cat,” comments Cynthia Modders, President, Firefly Brand Management.  “The show has a huge following with children and parents and we are anxious to continue building a licensing program equally as engaging and entertaining as the TV series.”

Sophie La Girafe Partners with Milli Company for Baby Range

Milli Company, who specialise in creating clothes and related products for babies and small children for the Japanese market, have secured a license to produce a collection for each season for French brand, Sophie la girafe.
 
1 in 10 children in Japan own a Sophie la girafe product and, Sophie la girafe is the first license Ever for Milli Company.

ITV Announces New Phase for Matt Hatter

ITV Studios Global Entertainment is entering a new chapter in the evolution of Platinum Films’ boys’ property Matt Hatter Chronicles as the licensing agent unveils plans for the official UK consumer retail launch this Autumn and announces new partners signed to launch from 2015. 
 
ITVS has revealed that all major categories are covered with 17 UK partners on board and confirmed retail listings in place with all the major retailers, a network of independents and all the leading online sites.
 
Global partners preparing for the retail debut this Autumn include Simba Dickie, which has been appointed the master toy partner across UK, EMEA, CEE, Russia and India.   In the publishing category Penguin is on board for books, and Pedigree for annuals.  In the UK, apparel partners ready for launch include Smith and Brooks for boys fashion and TDP Aykroyd for nightwear and underwear.  The toy category is further bolstered by Tactic Games for puzzles and Hy-pro with its range of wheeled toys. Gifting and stationery ranges will be developed by GB Eye and London Europe respectively.
 
New partners continue to come on board for phase two of the retail rollout in 2015, with the announcement of new licensees for UK and Ireland. London Europe will debut a range of homewares including lunchboxes and drink bottles from Spring 2015 and Hall & Associates have signed for personal care with product rolling out from January 2015 onwards. Joining these partners for 2015 launch is Trademark Collections and VMC for bags and fashion accessories respectively, University Games who will be launching games, Character World with junior bedding sets and home accessories, Topps for trading cards and Titan will publish the official Matt Hatter Chronicles Magazine.

DC Thomson Partners with John Hornby Skewes for Beano

DC Thomson Consumer Products has announced a partnership with John Hornby Skewes and Co Ltd (JHS), for the launch of the first line of The Beano character branded Real Musical Instruments.
 
JHS has developed a junior series of real musical instruments for children aged 5+ that feature characters from The Beano including Dennis the Menace, Gnasher and Minnie the Minx. Both The Beano and rock music share a rebellious streak and this range is inspired by Dennis’ band, ‘Dennis and The Dinmakers’. The line will debut at the annual JHS Event trade show 8th - 11th June 2014.  This will be followed by a launch into independent music stores across the UK and in international markets including USA, Australia and Hong Kong from this summer. 

IMG Brokers Deal for National Geographic Luggage

JJ&C is set to launch a brand new range of National Geographic-branded luggage in a worldwide deal brokered by IMG Licensing.
 
Featuring seven new models including backpacks and trolley suitcases, the new range will be available to consumers this June in retail stores and online. The line will embrace some of the most popular images from National Geographic, from adventure sports such as extreme climbing and cliff jumping to iconic shots of wildlife in its natural habitat.
 
JJ&C, which is the new licensee for National Geographic-branded luggage in Europe, Asia, Africa, and South and Central America, will produce the items catering to both casual and business travelers. The Pro, Dean and Cargo lines will provide consumers with several stylish options to suit their travel needs.

Slush Puppie and Moshi Monsters Join Forces

Slush Puppie are running their first ever on-pack promotion with Moshi Monsters.  Fans will be offered 200 free Rox – the virtual in-game currency – with every 230ml & 341ml cup of Slush Puppie’ throughout the summer.
 
The promotion will run across 2.5million of their iconic paper cups, which will be dual branded for the period of the promotion, in over 2000 retailers in the UK and Ireland.
 
Supporting the promotion is a limited edition Moshi flavour – Roarberry Cheesecake - based on the popular in-game delicacy.  Kids will love the exclusive blackcurrant cheesecake tasting drink that is available in retailers from July 1st.

Talking Tom Seeing German Success

Talking Tom, from Outfit 7, has been downloaded over 1.7 billion times, and is in 230 countries.
 
Team! Licensing presented the new property to a wide audience and received strong responses.
 
In Germany alone, Talking Tom has been downloaded many million times, making it the most popular country for the app.
 
A recent study of the market research institution Icon Kids and Youth undisclosed that 81% of all German kids know and play with Talking Tom. The same study concluded that only one in five actually owned a Talking Tom and Friends product, a divergence that expresses the acute demand of products.
 
In the near future Talking Tom and Friends will also be aired on TV, in 52 soon-to-air episodes.

Rainbow Designs Appoints International Marketing

Rainbow Designs has appointed Kids International Marketing to handle international sales.
 
“We are joining forces with Rainbow at a very key stage in the company’s growth. Their brands fit very well with our existing portfolio of quality children’s products,” commented Kim Carter.
 
Selected Rainbow lines will be shown by Kids International Marketing, to the international market place, this week at the Distoy show in London and from July in the company’s new showroom in Hong Kong. 

Sega Introduces New Characters to Sonic Boom Franchise

In advance of the launch of Sonic Boom, the newest branch of the Sonic the Hedgehog universe announced earlier this year, Sega has unveiled Sticks, a brand-new character that will play an integral role across all Sonic Boom platforms.
 
Sticks, a jungle badger who has spent most of her life living alone in the wilderness, will appear in the Sonic Boom TV series, Wii U and Nintendo 3DS video games, and merchandise, forming a common thread across all iterations of the new Sonic Boom world.  Sticks joins Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, and Amy to form the core ensemble featured throughout the Sonic Boom franchise. 
 
“Sticks is a significant addition to the Sonic Boom universe and the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise,” said Hiroyuki Miyazaki, Chief Content Officer for the Sonic Brand, Sega of America.  “She brings a quirky personality and perspective to the team dynamic, and we look forward to sharing this energetic and funny new character with the world.” 

Subway Surfers in Sticker Deal with DK

Evolution Europe has announced a new licensing agreement with DK for gaming app Subway Surfers. This deal will see DK creating a Subway Surfers Ultimate Sticker Collection book, available at retail from October 2014.
 
The Ultimate Sticker Collection book will comprise 1,000 stickers, enabling fans everywhere to bring the colourful travel adventures of the Subway Surfers crew to life.
 
A pilot is currently in production for a Subway Surfers TV animation, with the first 26 episodes planned for Autumn 2014.

Turkey and German Agents Appointed by Nelvana for Franklin and Friends

Nelvana has announced two new licensing agents for its preschool brand Franklin and Friends with Euro Lizenzen in German-speaking territories and Filma in Turkey.
 
Euro Lizenzen will build the licensing program within Germany, Austria and German-speaking Switzerland, to coincide with the series’ launch on German children’s channel KiKA in summer 2014.
 
FILMA, a renowned licensing and TV distribution leader, will represent the merchandise licensing rights in Turkey.

LATIN AMERICA

Marie Claire Paris Appoints P&L Global Network

Marie ClaireP&L Global Network has been appointed by Marie Claire Paris as its licensing agency for their brand in Central and South America. P&L Global Network will be responsible for the implementation and launching of the licensing Program.
 
Marie Claire Paris, one of the most famous fashion magazines around the globe is a monthly publication for women, first published in France and now distributed in the in many countries of the world with editions specific to them in their languages.
 
Fabrice Taupin, Director of Licensing Department at Marie Claire stated: “We are very enthusiastic about starting this partnership with P&L. Cartoon Network’s Adventure Time Begins Taiwan Tour

Adventure TimeCartoon Network, the number one kids’ cable channel in Taiwan, has unveiled an exhibition in capital Taipei for its comedy Adventure Time. Running until September 14, the exhibit is a licensing deal with local partner Kuang Hong Arts Management.
 
Named after the stars of the series, “Adventure Time – Finn and Jake” is housed by the National Taiwan Science Education Center. It features six themed zones from the Land of Ooo including a: Jake Bus, Tree Fort, Marceline’s Rock Room, Fire Kingdom, Ice Kingdom and Candy Kingdom. After the exhibition closes its doors in Taipei, it will then move to Taichung and then Kaohsiung in 2015.
 
At the official opening ceremony, Melissa Tinker, Vice President of Cartoon Network Enterprises for Southeast Asia Pacific, said: “This first-of-a-kind attraction showcases the creativity, flexibility and appeal of the Adventure Time franchise. It also marks the local debut of merchandise lines, featuring a whole range of accessories branded with unique comic-book artwork never before seen in Taiwan. We believe this exhibition has huge potential around Southeast Asia. After Taipei, Taichung and Kaohsiung, we’ll be looking at rolling out this concept to other destinations across the region in 2015 and beyond.”

Teen Titans Go! Has Licensed Toys Ready to Go

It’s been a good year for superhero comics on TV, what with the success of DC Comics’ Arrow and Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., not to mention the planned fall arrivals of The Flash and Gotham. But let’s not forget the animated side of small screen super-heroics, as the second season of Teen Titans Go! premieres next month. The series resurrects Teen Titans, which aired during the mid-to-late 2000s, as something wackier and anarchic. Both shows are based on the long-running comic book of the same name, which is centered on some of the best-known teenage characters in DC’s pantheon.

Boutique brand development & licensing agency is seeking a sales/retail business director to work closely with CEO on all aspects of sales, marketing, and retail development for the company's art & design lifestyle brands.

This position requires a motivated candidate who is adaptable and comfortable in a small company environment.
