CBS Consumer Products Plans The Brady Bunch, Cheers, and Corduroy Live Shows

CBS Consumer Products will expand its presence in the live event category with new stage shows based on The Brady Bunch, Cheers, and Corduroy. The new shows join a growing roster of live events that includes ongoing concert tours Star Trek: Live in Concert and Star Trek: The Ultimate Voyage.
 
Through an agreement between CBS Consumer Products and the Schwartz family, The Brady Bunch will be recreated as a comedic musical stage show featuring the TV scene’s classic characters in an original story that will appeal to fans old and new. The book is written by Lloyd J. Schwartz and Hope Juber, and the music and lyrics for the stage adaptation are written by Laurence Juber and Hope Juber.
 
Cheers Live On Stage, by Stageworks Media, will showcase classic moments from numerous Cheers episodes. Its live show adaptation will be produced and distributed by TROIKA Entertainment and will begin touring next year.
 
Additionally, The Children’s Theatre Company (CTC) in Minneapolis will bring the children’s book Corduroy to the stage for the first time. The new stage show is slated to debut in CTC’s 2016/2017 season, and follows the story of a teddy bear in a department store searching for his lost button. This marks one of CBS Consumer Products’ first deals for Corduroy.

Beanstalk Signs Pop Artist Romero Britto

Beanstalk, a global brand extension agency, has signed pop artist Romero Britto for representation. Beanstalk will extend the Romero Britto brand in North America and Europe, and will work with existing licensees to develop and launch additional branded products.

Britto’s iconic visual style and universal themes of love, happiness, and hope are represented in galleries, museums, and retailers across five continents in more than 100 countries. He uses vibrant colors and bold patterns in his canvas work, sculptures, installations, and public works.
 
Beanstalk seeks partners for Britto across a variety of categories, including apparel and accessories, home furnishings and décor, housewares, toys and games, consumer electronics accessories, and stationery. The agency will also explore co-branded partnerships and retailer exclusives for Britto.
 

Epic Rights Signs for Paul Stanley’s Lifestyle Brand

Paul Stanley, Co-Founder and singer/songwriter of Rock and Roll Hall of Fame band, KISS, has teamed up with Epic Rights, to develop and launch Stanley’s all new lifestyle brand, Paul Stanley: Royals & Rebels, at the Licensing Expo in Las Vegas in June.  The announcement was made by Epic Rights CEO Dell Furano and Paul Stanley.
 
From Stanley’s signature designs of musical instruments to his fine art paintings, both of which have generated millions in sales, the brand Paul Stanley: Royals & Rebels is synonymous with fashion forward, cutting-edge style and an independent spirit. Epic Rights has been charged with building the Paul Stanley: Royals & Rebels brand into a new licensing program, including men’s fashion apparel and accessories, footwear, food, spirits, home décor, cookware and more. Epic Rights anticipates debuting the Paul Stanley: Royals & Rebels brand at retail in fall 2016. 

Marvel, Disney Consumer Products Unveil Secret Wars Merchandising Program

Disney Consumer Products (DCP) will create a merchandising program for Marvel’s Secret Wars, a new storyline where the worlds of the Marvel Universe and the Ultimate Universe collide to form the new Battleworld. The Secret Wars licensing program marks the first time that Marvel is supporting a comic book event.
 
Additional licensees include Mad Engine and Bioworld for apparel; Funko for collectible figures; and Cardinal for puzzles. Marvel is also working with Diamond Comics to create assortments, displays, and special products, including apparel and drinkware designed specifically for comic book stores.

Lego Dimensions to Include New Licenses

Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment confirmed that Lego Dimensions will include The Simpsons, Doctor Who, Ghostbusters, Portal, Jurassic World, Midway Arcade, Lego Chima, and Scooby-Doo worlds. These properties will converge with the previously announced DC Comics, The Lord of the Rings, The Lego Movie, The Wizard of OZ, Lego Ninjago, and Back to the Future to create one thrilling adventure for players.
 
Lego Dimensions merges physical brick building with interactive console gameplay and allows gamers to customize their experiences with new buildable characters, vehicles, and gadgets based on the 14 brands.
 
A Lego Dimensions Starter Pack will be available, as well as expansions packs, including Level Packs, Team Packs, and Fun Packs which allow players to use everything interchangeably, anywhere throughout the game.
 
The game will be available on September 27 for Xbox One, Xbox 360, PlayStation4, PlayStation3, and Wii U.

Disney Consumer Products Launches Inside Out Product Line

Disney Consumer Products (DCP) has launched a product line inspired by Disney•Pixar’s original comedy Inside Out. In addition to Disney Publishing Worldwide (DPW) and Disney Store, licensees including Tomy, Freeze, Mighty Fine, KIDdesigns, Ugg Australia, Jay Franco, Random House, and Chronicle Books have all signed on to develop a wide product assortment that includes figures, plush, play sets, apparel and accessories, home décor, novelties, tech, books, and more.
 
The Inside Out collection brings the personified emotions from the film—Joy, Sadness, Disgust, Anger, and Fear—to life through a variety of products available now at mass and specialty retailers nationwide, Disney Store locations, and disneystore.com.

Hasbro, Paramount Pictures Partner for Beyblade Movie

Paramount Pictures has acquired rights to create a live-action feature film based on Hasbro's Beyblade toy collection. It will be produced by Mary Parent through her Disruption Entertainment banner. The toys originated in Japan and were licensed to Hasbro in 2001.

Playmobil, NHL Sign for Toy Line

Playmobil and the National Hockey League (NHL) have partnered for a functional kids’ toy line, marking the first licensing deal of its kind for the toy maker in North America.
 
The new toy line will initially focus on the Original Six franchises: Boston Bruins, Chicago Blackhawks, Detroit Red Wings, Montreal Canadiens, New York Rangers, and Toronto Maple Leafs with both player and goalie figures for each respective team to be created. In addition, Playmobil will make a play set based on this year’s Stanley Cup winner.

Genius Brands Appoints Kids Preferred for New Llama Llama Toy Line

Genius Brands International (GBI) has partnered with Kids Preferred for a toy line based on the Llama Llama brand. The line will feature plush toys, puppets, and jack-in-the-boxes inspired by the characters featured in the children’s books.
 
In addition, GBI recently announced its partnership with Llama Llama author Anna Dewdney and Penguin Young Readers to develop animated content based on the books. With 9.4 million print units, Anna Dewdney's Llama Llama books have all been New York Times bestsellers with several titles claiming the No. 1 spot. Her work has been translated into eight languages.

STX Entertainment to Develop Uglydoll Film

STX Entertainment will launch a family and animation division geared toward creating multi-platform family franchises across film, TV, and digital. The studio’s first project in partnership with Uglydoll will be to develop a full-scale animated feature based on the iconic toy brand created by Davis Horvath, Sun-Min Kim, and Drew Matilsky. Uglydoll will be a leading pillar of the studio’s new division with future projects for other platforms to be developed in the future.
 
Additionally, STX Entertainment will support Uglydoll and its additional properties with the company’s new consumer products, licensing, and merchandising arm.

American Girl Partners with Williams-Sonoma

American Girl will partner with Williams-Sonoma, premier specialty U.S. retailer of cookware and home furnishings, for American Girl-branded baking sets, utensils, food mixes, and a cookbook. The line will be available this fall at Williams-Sonoma, American Girl stores, and online.
 
In addition, a series of culinary classes will start this month at Williams-Sonoma stores, and will continue through the end of the year.
 
Williams-Sonoma has also created a limited-edition American Girl spatula—which will be carried at both companies’ stores beginning in late June—as part of its No Kid Hungry fundraising campaign. The spatula will be available for $12.95 with 30 percent of the proceeds benefitting No Kid Hungry: a campaign that is dedicated to ending childhood hunger in the U.S.

Brand Central LLC to Represent Super Sprowtz

Brand Central LLC will represent the edutainment media company Super Sprowtz. In partnership with William Morris Endeavor, the agency will expand and develop the brand across various consumer product categories, including healthy kids’ foods and snacks, gardening products, cooking utensils, publishing, plush, games, and activities.
 
The brand spreads the message of wellness and sustainability to kids ages 3 to 9 through web content, live tours, and educational kits featuring veggie superheroes Colby Carrot, Brian Brocolli, and the rest of the Super Sprowtz gang. An additional integrated program works with the U.S. public school system’s cafeterias and classrooms in New York City, Los Angeles, Puerto Rico, Boulder, San Francisco, Chicago, and Miami to promote the brand’s goal of combating childhood obesity worldwide.
 
Super Sprowtz has additional support from its celebrity ambassadors, including First Lady Michelle Obama, former White House chef Sam Cass, actor Jeff Bridges, basketball star Shaquille O’Neal, and Russell Simmons, among others.

Wild Kratts Expands Licensing Program
 

Kratt Brothers Co. and 9 Story Media Group have expanded the Wild Kratts licensing program to include Halloween costumes from InCharacter Costumes; cake toppers from Decopac; and games and puzzles from Pressman Toys. The new products are expected to hit shelves this fall.
 
Last year, master toy licensee Wicked Cool Toys launched a line of creature power suits, action figures, talking plush, and vehicle sets at Toys “R” Us. New items, including the Tortuga Playset, will hit Kmart and select Target stores this fall. Additional partners include Random House Kids in the U.S. and Canada, and Panini in Germany for publishing.
 
Now in its fourth season, Wild Kratts holds the No. 1 TV spot for kids ages 4 to 8. Wild Kratts premiered on PBS Kids in the U.S. in 2011 and on TVO, Knowledge Network, and Télé-Quebec in Canada. The series was created and developed by real life brothers and zoologists, Martin and Chris Kratt who star in the show as animated versions of themselves.

Jewel Branding & Licensing Signs Airheads

Jewel Branding & Licensing is now the North American licensing agent for the Airheads brand in all non-food product categories. Jewel will expand the brand and its portfolio of unique designs into lifestyle categories such as home, apparel, stationery, social expressions, sporting goods, and others.
 
Airheads is one of the most widely known non-chocolate candy brands in the U.S. with more than 1 billion pieces of Airheads candy purchased by consumers annually.

Warner Bros., TT Games, and The LEGO Group Announce Lego Worlds

Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, TT Games, and The Lego Group will bring more than 80 years of classic Lego building ingenuity to the digital space with Lego Worlds. Developed by TT Games, Lego Worlds allows players to use Lego building sets digitally to build unique environments and create anything they can imagine.
 
The game, available now, will also offer multiplayer and sharing features, for friends to experience each other’s worlds and show-off their creations.

CJ Products Signs on to Create Paw Patrol Pillow Pets Plush

CJ Products, the creator of Pillow Pets, will create 18-inch foldable plush Pillow Pets of Chase and Marshall from the preschool series Paw Patrol.
 
PAW Patrol is a CGI-animated, action-adventure preschool series starring a pack of six heroic puppies led by a tech-savvy 10-year-old boy named Ryder. When trouble strikes Adventure Bay, these heroic pups are there to save the day with a unique blend of problem-solving skills, cool vehicles and cute doggy humor.
 
The Paw Patrol Pillow Pets will be available this summer at retailers nationwide.

Evolution Appointed as Agent for Yo-Kai Watch and LBX

Dentsu Entertainment USA and Level-5 have appointed leading licensing and merchandising agency Evolution USA to bring the multimedia franchises Yo-Kai Watch and LBX to the USA and Canadian markets.
 
Evolution will premiere the Yo-Kai Watch property to key licensees and retailers at the upcoming Licensing Expo in Las Vegas at booth F155 and will be licensing and managing the franchises as the full service licensing and promotions agency, with products and retail promotions premiering on store shelves beginning in Fall 2016.
 
Hasbro has been previously announced as the Yo-Kai Watch master toy licensee for the USA, Canada, Europe, New Zealand, Australia, Mexico, Central and South America and will introduce an innovative line of toys for the franchise beginning in Spring 2016. VIZ Media, LLC has been granted the publishing rights for Manga (Graphic Novels) under the Perfect Square imprint. Nintendo of America is launching a North American version of the best selling Nintendo 3DS handheld game in 2015.

Coastal Management Announces Major Acquisition between Cherokee Global Brands and Everyday California

Coastal Management has announced the acquisition and ongoing partnership between its client Everyday California and Cherokee Global Brands.
 
La Jolla-based Everyday California retained Coastal Management in 2014 to seek out brand extension opportunities for the fast-growing lifestyle company. Through its extensive partner network, licensing and IP expertise, Coastal Management secured and brokered CGB’s acquisition of Everyday California’s lifestyle brand, on behalf of Everyday California, enabling the company to get to the next level of brand awareness and growth.
 
As part of the agreement, Everyday California owners and founders Michael Samer and Christopher Lynch retain ownership of their flagship store in La Jolla and the company’s ecommerce store, and will continue to sell men’s and women’s apparel, accessories and footwear through a licensing agreement with CGB. The owners also retain ownership of select non-fashion categories, such as the company’s core adventure business, which includes kayaking and snorkeling tours, board rentals, etc. CBG is adding Everyday California to its portfolio of style-focused lifestyle brands and will seek out new licensee partners for the brand nationally and globally.
 
Everyday California will be formally introduced to the licensing community under the CGB awning this Licensing Expo in Las Vegas.

Care Bears Wins Numerous Awards in 2015

American Greetings Properties’ Care Bears brand is the recipient of several awards in 2015 in the digital and toy categories.  First up is the Dr. Toy Classic Toy Award. Care Bears were chosen for their long-lasting, educational, creative and unique classic appeal. 
 
Next, the Care Bears Love to Learn app received the National Parenting Center Seal of Approval for its ability to captivate children with subjects of math, counting, shapes, color, object recognition, memory, music play and beginning sounds with positive reinforcement. The Love to Learn app also received a Brain Child Tillywig Award for the ‘level of variety in its highly entertaining activities and the fact that they're as fun as they are educational.’
 
Lastly, the Care Bears Love to Learn app and the Care Bears Dynacraft bike were awarded as top picks in Toy Insider’s 2015 Spring/Summer List for Hottest Nature and Educational Toy, Hottest Travel Toy, Hottest Outdoor Toy and Hottest Physical and Active Toy categories.

Grumpy Cat Inks Comic Book Deal

Dynamite has announced a collaborative licensing partnership with Grumpy Cat Limited to develop print and digital comic books and graphic novels featuring "The World's Grumpiest Cat" and her brother, Pokey.
 
Grumpy Cat will debut the first of her all-new misadventures in a three-issue miniseries, released in Fall 2015, and collected into a hardcover graphic novel in time for the holiday season. Dynamite also plans to launch a website this summer where new Grumpy Cat comic strips will go up online every week. 

Dena Designs Signs with The Joester Loria Group

Dena Designs has selected The Joester Loria Group as the exclusive licensing agent for its growing portfolio of award-winning, design driven lifestyle brands, with best-selling collections in Baby, Children, Junior, and Home.
 
The Joester Loria Group has been tapped to execute a brand expansion strategy that extends Happi by Dena, Haute Girls and other Dena brands to new product categories and builds on the distribution at current and new retail partners.
 
Dena has become a sought-after designer at retail, with sales topping $500 million and over 30 licensees in 20,000 leading retail doors worldwide.

Aurora World Partners with Precious Moments

Aurora World has signed a deal with Precious Moments, known for its figurines of teardrop-eyed children, to create a line of brand-inspired soft toys, dolls, baby products, and plush.
 
The new line, set to launch next year, will convey the messages of love, caring, and sharing.

CPLG Further Expands into Middle East, Turkey, and Greece

Copyright Promotions Licensing Group (CPLG), part of DHX Media, is extending its footprint to include the Middle East, Turkey, and Greece, adding to the previously announced expansion in Nordic, and Central and Eastern Europe. CPLG is amalgamating with two existing businesses, FWD Licensing and License2Brand, to form CPLG MENA and CPLG Turkey and Greece, respectively.
 
Abdel Boazzati, managing director of FWD Branding Ltd., will join CPLG as managing director of CPLG MENA. He will establish CPLG MENA in Dubai, a partnership between FWD Middle East and CPLG. Abdel is a Warner Bros. and emerging markets veteran, and has worked extensively in the Middle East.
 
Additionally, Anthe Louizos joins as managing director of CPLG Turkey and Greece. Louizos previously served as managing director of License2Brand and is a former Disney veteran with considerable experience in building brands in both Greece and Turkey.

Ink Merges with GNAM

Ink Group, a leading solution provider in entertainment brand building and brand licensing headquartered in Copenhagen, and media development giant Global New Age Media (GNAM), based in Dubai, have announced an agreement that will bring the licensing services of these names together as a single point of contact for access to over one billion consumers across three regions.
 
The combined forces of Ink and GNAM, namely INK ALC, will service the Russia CIS, MENA and the SEA regions as well as the Nordics. The formal announcement of the merger will take place at Las Vegas Licensing Expo in June, on the Ink booth (A136).
 
The new agency will continue to offer a full service — from media development and sales, through brand extension to product manufacturing. However, together the partners will be able to offer clients the synergies and efficiencies gained from operating as one entity with a vast potential reach in some of the world’s most exciting and fastest-growing markets.

Character World Unveils My Little Pony Bedding Range

Character World is due to launch an exclusive line of bedding and accessories featuring characters from My Little Pony as part of its deal with Hasbro.
 
A hit in the in the 1980s, My Little Pony has had a resurgence in popularity since a new animated television series started in 2010 featuring character based stories.
 
Character World will produce the ‘Dash’ range including duvet cover, cushion and fleece blanket, available to retailers across the UK.  
 
My Little Pony themed toys and accessories alone bring in $650m in retail sales annually for the Hasbro franchise. Hasbro Studios recently announced that a My Little Pony movie would be released in 2017.

Entertainment One Extends Partnership with Character Options

Entertainment One Licensing (eOne) has announced extension to its long-term partnership with Character Options that will see the leading toy company develop Peppa Pig construction toys for the UK, Australia and New Zealand. Character Options will manage distribution in the UK whilst Big Balloon and Planet Fun have been appointed official distributors for Australia and New Zealand respectively.
 
Scheduled to make its retail debut in January 2016, the new construction range will be themed the ‘World of Peppa Pig’ with the eight new product lines made up of core elements from the smash hit preschool TV series including the Peppa Pig family house and car.   A comprehensive TV marketing campaign will support the launch.

Random House Launches Love Sick

Random House Enterprises (RHE) launches Love Sick from actress Jessie Cave.
 
Jessie, who is best-known for her role as Lavender Brown in the Harry Potter films, began a self-tasked mission in 2010; to post a doodle-a-day on Twitter to capture the hilarious – yet cynical – snapshots of relationships from their angst-ridden beginnings to all that might happen beyond. With an engaged fan base of 75,000 followers (@pindippycave), Jessie’s illustrations will be published by Ebury Press in the book Love Sick this July. RHE is representing the property to extend it into further product categories, including stationery and greetings, apparel and accessories, and gifting, targeted at young women.

New Licensees Sign On for Shopkins

Three new partners have joined the licensing fold for Shopkins, the collectible property represented by Bulldog Licensing.
 
The new agreements will see Character World develop a range including bedding, curtains, fleece blankets, hot water bottles, cushions, rugs, sleeping bags, inflatable chairs, towels, beanbags, canvas art, toddler beds, fitted sheets and robes. RMS international will launch a stationery and craft range including colouring books, sticker books and puzzles.
 
Master Toy licensee Flair is supporting the brand with heavyweight TV advertising and in-store activity and are joined by a raft of licensees including NJ Screen Prints (apparel), Pedigree (annuals), DJ Murphy (magazines), Winning Moves (games), Pyramid (posters) and Whitehouse Leisure (amusement plush).

Christine Cool to Lead Roundtable at Licensing Expo

Christine Cool, License Area Manager at Perfetti van Melle Group of the candy brands Mentos, Airheads and Chupa Chups, has been selected by LIMA to lead a roundtable in the new Roundtable Workshops as part of the Licensing University program at the upcoming Licensing Expo in Las Vegas.
 
 In her session “Preparing your Brand for Licensing”, Ms. Cool will take participants through the steps that need to be followed and the aspects to be considered when a brand is licensed for the first time. The discussion will take place on June 10 from 10:15 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

Ruff-Ruff, Tweet and Dave Coming to Plush, Beanies, and Magazines

Rocket Licensing, which is managing the licensing campaign for Ruff-Ruff, Tweet and Dave on behalf of Collingwood and Co, has announced the first licensees for the interactive pre-school TV show that everyone’s talking about. They are Posh Paws, the UK’s leading supplier of licensed plush, and Immediate Media, the UK’s leading kids’ magazine publisher.
 
Posh Paws will be producing plush, talking plush and beanies of Ruff-Ruff, Tweet, Dave and their friend Hatty the Hamster for launch at retail in spring 2016. Immediate Media has been licensed to include features based on the show in its multi-character magazines CBeebies Weekly and ToyBox. The first issues featuring Ruff-Ruff, Tweet and Dave came out in late May.

Blueprint Collections Launch House of Holland Stationery

In a deal brokered by London Agency Bloom (in partnership with ML Marketing), Blueprint Collections has launched a range of stationery for British Fashion Designer Henry Holland under his label ‘House of Holland’.
 
Blueprint is adding to his existing licensing programme of fashion accessories, bath and beauty products with a vibrant and fun range of stationery which has launched into Selfridges and John Lewis with other retailers to follow.

Pokémon in Several UK Deals

The Pokémon Company International announces that it is continuing to strengthen its European consumer products presence with the signing of new UK licensees across several categories.
 
The new licensees for the United Kingdom and Eire are Character World Ltd for bedding; Danilo Promotions Ltd for calendars; Aykroyds & TDP Licensing Ltd for nightwear and underwear; and Winning Moves UK Ltd for board games.
 
These new deals complement the growth of a comprehensive slate of new European licensees across a variety of categories including confectionery, apparel and footwear, stationery and posters, and video game accessories, and they follow 24 months of exceptional sales success for the brand.
 
The Pokémon Company International’s continued importance within the licensing industry was recently confirmed when it was listed as the number two single-brand children’s entertainment property by License Global.
 
“We are delighted to have signed these prestigious new partners that are testament to the current popularity of Pokémon, which is a brand that has delighted fans for almost 20 years,” said Mathieu Galante, Senior Market Development Manager at The Pokémon Company International. “As we look to 2016-17 we will continue to capitalise on our track record of commercial successes and current interest in the property by signing further best-in-class licensing partners across Europe.”

The asset acquisition of Hilco by CandyRific in 2014 has allowed for continued growth and improvement in novelty candy products, as well as an expansion of licensing rights.

Toot The Tiny Tugboat Steams Ahead

Digital-I data has confirmed Toot’s early success on Milkshake. He outperforms his overall slot average by 28%, and by a massive 73% for key target group, boys aged 4-6.
 
Toot also launched on Cartoonito in March and is already their 3rd most popular show for boys aged 4-9 and the 5th most popular show for housewives with kids aged 0-3. Both channels have now confirmed that Toot will be on air every day until the end of 2015.

Creative Fun Signs for Purple Turtle

Asiana Appointed for Brambly Hedge in Korea

The primary responsibilities of the Licensing Director is to identify, develop, negotiate and manage our day-to-day licensing business relationships and associated licensing responsibilities.  This “roll-up-your-sleeves” position also develops research and prospecting strategies for licensing opportunities.  The Licensing Director is also responsible to develop and merchandise licensed product by working closely with management and the design and sales teams to drive product to market, as well as be the liaison with licensors to obtain style guides and interpret product and design needs for each of our retail customers.  In addition to the creative component, the position involves considerable interaction with major consumer products companies to facilitate contract acquisition and renewal as well as sales forecasting, royalty reporting and tracking.  Licensing experience in consumer product development, production, merchandising, acquisition and management for a manufacturer and firsthand working relationship experience with major licensors: DISNEY, Marvel, Nickelodeon, WB, DC, etc., a must.
