Jakks Pacific Appointed as Master Toy Licensee for Mega Man

DHX Brands and Dentsu Entertainment USA appointed Jakks Pacific Inc. as worldwide master toy licensee—excluding Asia—for their co-produced animated series Mega Man. The deal was brokered by CPLG North America.
 
The multi-year license agreement allows Jakks to exclusively manufacture, market, and distribute a range of consumer products, including action figures, figurines, play sets, accessories, dress up and role-play, Halloween costumes, plush, and vehicles.
 
Based on Capcom’s Mega Man video game franchise, the series goes into production this summer at DHX Media’s Vancouver studio. Man of Action Entertainment will write and executive produce the series in collaboration with DHX Media and Dentsu Entertainment. Cartoon Network U.S. and DHX Media’s Family CHRGD in Canada have licensed the show for broadcast.
 
The new Mega Man animated series will feature new technologies and robots, as well as the introduction of Mega Man’s alter-ego, Aki Light. Aki is a regular, upbeat schoolboy robot who has nano-core technology that allows him to transform into the mega-powered super hero, Mega Man. With his Mega Buster arm cannon and iconic helmet, Mega Man battles the villains Silicon City has to offer. Many characters will return, while new characters will also make their debut.

Publishers Weekly, BolognaFiere Partner to Launch The New York Rights Fair

Publishers Weekly, the international news platform of the book publishing industry, and book marketing and promotion resource Combined Book Exhibit have partnered with BolognaFiere S.p.A., the leading European exhibition organizer, to launch the New York Rights Fair. The fair will be the first trade and licensing show in the U.S. dedicated exclusively to the international rights, distribution and licensing of content, both adult and children’s.  
 
The inaugural New York Rights Fair is scheduled for May 30 – June 1, 2018, and will be held at the Metropolitan Pavilion in midtown Manhattan. The fair will offer a unique venue for U.S. publishers and agents across adult and children’s markets to network with their global counterparts in the publishing capital of the world. The three-day fair will cover rights sales negotiation and distribution of content across print, audio, TV, film, and digital channels.

The Angry Birds Movie 2 Set to Premiere September 2019

Columbia Pictures and Rovio Entertainment Ltd. will partner again for The Angry Birds Movie 2. Sony Pictures will distribute the sequel, which is set to premiere on Sept. 20, 2019, coinciding with the 10th anniversary of the original Angry Birds game.

The Angry Birds Movie 2 will be directed by Thurop Van Orman (The Marvelous Misadventures of Flapjack, Adventure Time) and co-directed by John Rice (King of the Hill, Rick and Morty), who served as lead storyboard artist on The Angry Birds Movie and directed the popular Angry Birds Hatchlings shorts. Additionally, the film will be produced by John Cohen (Despicable Me, The Angry Birds Movie), and Peter Ackerman (The Americans, Ice Age) will write the screenplay.

Sony Pictures Imageworks will handle the animation for the film in collaboration with Sony Pictures Animation. Production designer Pete Oswald and character art director Francesca Natale will also be returning from The Angry Birds Movie.

The Toy Association Appoints Crayola President and CEO to Board of Directors

The Toy Association – the not-for-profit trade association representing all businesses involved in creating and delivering toys and youth entertainment products for kids of all ages – announced that Smith Holland, president and CEO of Crayola LLC, has joined its Board of Directors, effective immediately. The board, chaired by David Hargreaves, strategic adviser at Hasbro, Inc., includes representatives from all areas of the toy industry, including manufacturers, retailers, and entertainment companies.

Cartoon Network Announces New Partners for We Bare Bears

Cartoon Network Enterprises added new partners for its We Bare Bears series, which is currently in its third season. Hot Topic will serve as the exclusive soft lines retail partner from June through November with an apparel and accessory collection inspired by the series. 
 
We Bare Bears licensee partners, including those participating in the Hot Topic exclusive, will launch product in a range of categories, including apparel, toys, and publishing. Partners include Mighty Fine for T-shirts and tops for juniors; Changes for men’s T-shirts and tops; Gund for plush; Penguin for youth titles; Kalan LP for buttons, lanyards, key rings, and stickers; Hypnotic Hats for hosiery; and Just Funky for beverageware.
 
We Bare Bears follows three brothers trying to fit in and make friends. Grizzly, Panda, and Ice Bear are fairly savvy about the modern world, yet, they have a lot to learn about the trendy residents that surround their humble Bay Area cave. Grizzly, the oldest bear, will lead his younger brothers with endless optimism that usually results in disaster.

Activision Blizzard Consumer Products Group Debuts at Licensing Expo 2017

The newly created Activision Blizzard Consumer Products Group division made its debut at Licensing Expo 2017. Leveraging franchises from across the company, the properties offer opportunities across gameplay, linear storytelling, e-sports, and consumer products.

Activision recently revealed Call of Duty: WWII, which is scheduled for release on Nov. 3. Additionally, a Call of Duty film franchise is in development. Supported by a merchandising program, partners include Bioworld for apparel and accessories; Insight Editions for a field manual; DGL Group for drones; Astro Gaming for headsets; Mattel for collectible construction sets; Otterbox for mobile and iPad cases, and more.

Bungie’s Destiny 2 will be available on PC at retail and as the first third-party game to be offered digitally via Battle.net, Blizzard Entertainment's online gaming service. In celebration of the Destiny 2 launch this September, Bungie, in collaboration with Activision, has new licensees including Bioworld for apparel and accessories; McFarlane Toys for action figures; Mattel for construction sets; Funko vinyl figures; Razer for gaming accessories; RockLove for jewelry; Concept One headwear and accessoriesInsight Editions for art books and journals; USAopoly for puzzles and playing cards; and KontrolFreek for gaming controller accessories.

The Skylanders Academy animated Netflix series has a second season that will premiere this year, and Netflix recently ordered a third season for next year. Skylanders continues to be supported by a roster of partners. 

Additionally, Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy will be available this June. The game is supported by a merchandising program from partners including Changes for apparel; Concept One for accessories; Rubber Road for apparel, accessories, mugs, home décor; and Venture Classics for collectible figures. 

Additionally, Blizzard Entertainment features games including World of WarcraftHearthstone, Diablo III, StarCraft II, Heroes of the Storm and Overwatch, Blizzard’s internationally-acclaimed team-based shooter.

Mobile entertainment company King supports Candy Crush Saga, Candy Crush Soda Saga, and Candy Crush Jelly Saga. The Candy Crush property is supported by partners including Amber House for health and beauty; Ascania for soda drinks; BakedIn for bake at home kits; InPhase for air Fresheners; Rossi for ice Cream; Tubz for candy; Little Brown for publishing; and Winning Moves for board games. King supports its licensees through integrated marketing initiatives including, event-based activities, partnerships, public relations, and social campaigns.

Geronimo Stilton Musical Debuts in Singapore

Curtains are up for Atlantyca Live’s award-winning and popular Geronimo Stilton: Kingdom of Fantasy Stage Show Singapore!  Commencing May 26th through the 28th the stage show will open in its newest location, Singapore at the MES Theater.
 
The newest stage production in Singapore follows Atlantyca’s first foray into musical performances in the Asia Pacific region, which opened this month on May 4th in Hong Kong at the Lyric Theatre, HKAPA.
 
 Produced by Hong Kong-based Millennium Entertainment International creators and producers of character based-live entertainment and an Atlantyca partner, the show is based on the popular Geronimo Stilton: The Kingdom of Fantasy books. Originally produced by the Spanish Focus Grup and Grup 62, Geronimo Stilton: The Kingdom of Fantasy will be adapted in English and brought to the stage in Singapore by MEI Live.

Mattel Introduces New Mega Construx Despicable Me Construction Line

Mattel released new Mega Construx construction sets based on Despicable Me 3, ahead of the movie's release next month.
 
The new products include the Mega Construx Micro Action Figure Series, Despicable Me 3 Cheese Festival Assortment, Mini Vehicle Assortment, Agnes and Minion Feature Pack Assortments, Gru's Water Motorbike, Family Luau Party, and Dru's Transforming Vehicle.
 
The toys are designed for kids ages 5 and up and are available in stores nationwide now. Despicable Me 3 will be in theaters June 30.

LIMA Expands with Three New Global Representatives, Announces LIMA International Licensing Awards Winners

The International Licensing Industry Merchandisers’ Association (LIMA) recently appointed representatives in Brazil, France, and Russia, and named an industry veteran as the new head of LIMA India. 
 
The representatives for the new LIMA offices include
Marici Ferreira, LIMA/ABRAL (Brazil); Laurent Taieb, LIMA France; Jiggy George, LIMA India; and Marina Semenikhina, LIMA Russia.

Additionally, on Tuesday, winners in 20 categories were announced during LIMA’s annual Awards Ceremony, held during the 2017 Licensing Expo at Mandalay Bay Convention Center, Las Vegas.

Skyrocket Toys, Marvel Partner for New Spider-Man: Homecoming Drone

Skyrocket Toys partnered with Marvel to reveal new, high-tech drones inspired by the upcoming Spider-Man: Homecoming film. Skyrocket Toys designed functional replicas of Spider-Man's surveillance drone, complete with the free Spider-Drone app.

The Spider-Man Drone will be available exclusively at Walmart on June 4. Additionally, the Spider-Man Streaming Video Spider-Drone, will be available exclusively at Toys “R” Us on July 1.

WildWorks Appoints Eximtrading S.A. as Licensing Agent for Animal Jam

WildWorks appointed Eximtrading S.A. as the company’s first licensing agent to represent Animal Jam consumer products and promotions in Argentina, Paraguay, and Uruguay.
 
Eximtrading S.A. will work directly with Peeko, which handles the worldwide licensing rights for the brand, to bring partners on board to enhance the Animal Jam experience with new products for kids.

Nelvana Announces Season Two for Ranger Rob

During the Fall 2016 season, the series has ranked #1 on Corus’ Treehouse network in Canada for boys 2-11, and has earned top ranks in additional territories such as TF1 in France, Super RTL in Germany, Disney Channel in Australia, Nickelodeon Italy, Canal Panda Portugal, YLE/TV2 Finland, and HOP Israel.

Ranger Rob follows 10-year-old ranger-in-training Rob around the Big Sky Park, the coolest natural adventure park imaginable, as he ziplines, swings, and snowboards discovering and exploring all that the park has to offer. New Shopkins Home Entertainment Feature Set for October Release

The second movie in the Shopkins franchise Shopkins: World Vacation will be released this October by the Universal Pictures Home Entertainment Content Group.

The film follows the release of the first Shopkins movie, Shopkins: Chef Club. The new film brings the Shoppies and Shopkins out of Shopville on a vacation won by Kooky Cookie. When she takes her friends to London, they encounter the Biscuit Bandits and are thrust into an adventure across London, Paris, and Tokyo.

Shopkins also launched a live stage show that is set to tour the U.S. this September.

Hopster Launches on Amazon Channels in the UK

Hopster, the preschool learning and entertainment app, today announced that it will be launching a channel on the newly announced Amazon Channels in the UK. Amazon Channels allows Amazon Prime members to add channel subscriptions for a low monthly subscription fee, available individually without the need for a bundle and without a lengthy contract.
 
 Hopster will join Amazon Channel along with over 40 subscription TV channels including Discovery, Eurosport Player, Hayu, ITV Hub+, MUBI, BFI Player and MGM. YouTube Personality JoJo Siwa Unveils Consumer Products Line with Just Play, Spin Master, Rubie’s

The global consumer products program for 14-year-old singer, dancer, performer, and social media influencer JoJo Siwa will include products across multiple categories in the U.S. and markets including the UK, Australia, and Canada.  Select items in the JoJo Siwa consumer products line are available in stores now in the U.S.

Danskin will introduce its first kids’ co-branded dance, athleisure, and accessories collection. The collection will launch next spring and will feature leotards, tights, dance skirts, tutus, legwarmers, fashion tops, sweatshirts, hoodies, leggings, skorts, joggers, sportsbras, biketards, crop tops, dance bags, backpacks, totes, purses, and headwear.

Additionally, Just Play will introduce a JoJo Siwa fashion doll this year that features Siwa’s single “Boomerang,” which will be available exclusively at Walmart in July, followed by other retailers beginning in October. Little, Brown Books for Young Readers, Mattel Partner for New Monster High Novel

Little, Brown Books for Young Readers partnered with Mattel for a novel mash-up, Monster High/Ever After High: The Legend of Shadow High, written by the  Shannon Hale and Dean Hale. The Legend of Shadow High will be published in October in a paper-over-board format, with a 150,000 first copy print run.

In the new novel for middle grade readers, Monster High characters Frankie Stein and Draculaura are transported to Ever After High, where they meet Raven Queen and Apple White. The four discover that the Evil Queen has escaped her mirror in search of the ultimate power hidden inside the ominous Shadow High. They have to work together to stop the Evil Queen and save the World of Stories. The novel features interactive details, including write-in pages that encourage readers to advance the story based on their choices, The Legend of Shadow High will release in time for Halloween.

This September, Little, Brown will also publish Shannon Hale’s Ever After High: The Storybook of Legends for the first time in paperback. Paperback editions of Shannon Hale’s Ever After High: The Unfairest of Them All and Ever After High: A Wonderlandiful World will follow respectively next July and January 2019.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manage existing licensees in assigned categories: 
    • Evaluate licensee’s quarterly marketing, retail and financial forecasts to ensure licensees on are track to meet established contractual obligations, royalty payments and forecast goals.
    • Organize and run licensee orientations, business reviews, semiannual/quarterly line reviews, and brain storm sessions.
    • Address specific licensee performance issues
    • Negotiate renewals on a timely basis
    • Provides input for annual departmental budget and plan
  • Ensure licensees develop seasonal lines in time for internal seasonal review and develop documents and presentations to communicate licensee’s initiatives to internal Crayola departments
    • Set trend direction and make recommendations for new product entry

    • Work with creative and product development on design and creative direction for licensed product and packaging
    • Responsible for managing licensee press releases, cross marketing and promotions

  • Negotiate new licensed strategic partnerships for assigned segments in conjunction with established category strategies

REQUIREMENTS:

Job Description: Serve as the primary point of contact for day to day business with licensors. Spearhead category strategies, partner relations, and negotiations to maximize brand efficacy and build growth opportunities for licenses.  Play a key role in forecasting.  Solicit new brands, licenses and trends to secure the company’s high ranking in the business.
Provide sales updates and sell through information to the licensors on a monthly/weekly basis.  Mentor and manage coordinators, providing industry and business guidance.
 
Work Environment: This is a very fast-paced, team-orientated business casual environment.

I have 8 years experience of working for a large London Publishing house licensing book content to third parties. I am looking for a role which utilises my skills in negotiation and relationship building and can develop my experience within the licensing field. Having licensed book content to a wide variety of customers from national Newspapers to international Publishers I would relish the experience to work in a new industry, licensing new content to new clients.
 
I realise that a move across from traditional publishing may mean a step down from the managerial role I was in before. I'm enthusiastic to work in a new industry and feel my skills are easily transferable and am happy to look outside licensing roles also.
