UYoung Greenlights Season Two of P. King Duckling

UYoung’s comedy preschool series P. King Duckling has been greenlit for season two. The new season is currently in development and expected to premiere in China next fall, followed by a global rollout.
New international broadcasters have recently acquired the first season of the series, including Hop TV (Israel), E-vision (United Arab Emirates) and Canal Panda (Spain). 
UYoung appointed two new licensing agents to represent the property, including Biplano in Southern Europe (France, Belgium, Spain, Portugal, Italy, and Croatia) and Tycoon in Latin America. This follows the news earlier in the year that Shout! Factory signed a deal for Home Entertainment and EST in North America.
P. King Duckling premiered on Disney Junior in the U.S. last November and these latest deals will further expand the show’s global footprint, and follow existing deals with Disney Junior in Latin America, India, Korea, and South East Asia and with Nordic broadcasters in SVT in Sweden and YLE in Finland.
P. King Duckling follows the adventures of an intrepid, but hapless, young duck and his two best friends, Chumpkins and Wombat. P. King and his friends have adventures all over the world, from the Left Bank of Paris, to the Great Wall of China, and more.

Discovery Consumer Products Debuts The Investigation Discovery Wine Club

Discovery Consumer Products have announced The Investigation Discovery Wine Club, the first wine club inspired by a major television network. Week after week tens of millions of viewers are glued to their TV screens watching ID’s riveting mystery and suspense programming, and now they can ‘crack the case’ at home with the first-ever pairing of true crime with true wines.
Launching June 1st, each ID Wine Club shipment will include six bottles of wine. Ben 10 Makes Free-to-Air Broadcast Launch in the UK, New Merchandise Line to Debut

Cartoon Network’s animated series Ben 10 made its free-to-air premiere in the UK on CITV and ITV on Sunday.
The new episodes of Ben 10 currently air on Cartoon Network in the UK. The terrestrial channel will then continue to air Ben 10 as part of its primetime line-up.
The new series sees Ben Tennyson return in his original, as a 10-year-old boy who transforms into aliens. Since premiering in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa (EMEA) last October, the series has already reached more than 27 million individuals across the region. 

Cartoon Network EMEA will also rollout a new merchandise line this summer by master toy partner Playmates Toys. Giochi Preziosi Group is on board as the pan-European marketing and distribution partner for the toy range and Flair will distribute in the UK.

Sony Pictures Consumer Products Appoints Just Play as Master Toy Partner for The Emoji Movie

Sony Pictures Consumer Products has announced the selection of Just Play as master toy partner for The Emoji Movie along with licensee partners across multiple categories including Accessory Innovations, AME, Franco Manufacturing Company, Freeze, Thermos, Zak and Ty, to support the film's consumer products program.
This summer, Just Play will introduce a new line of toys including blind bags, collectible figures, light-up figures, and plush toys inspired by the unique range of key characters from the film.
Sony Pictures Animation’s highly anticipated film, The Emoji Movie, hits theaters worldwide starting in July 2017. The Emoji Movie unlocks the never-before-seen secret world inside your smartphone. Hidden within the messaging app is Textopolis, a bustling city where all your favorite emojis live, hoping to be selected by the phone's user. In this world, each emoji has only one facial expression – except for Gene (T.J. Miller), an exuberant emoji who was born without a filter and is bursting with multiple expressions. The Alpha Group Appoints Antoine Erligmann as VP of Media, TV, and Licensing in EMEA

The Alpha Group appointed Antoine Erligmann as vice president of media, TV and licensing of Europe, the Middle East, and Africa (EMEA). Alpha Group looks to consolidate, organize, and expand its teams in Europe. The arrival of Erligmann will help Alpha Group become a key player in the European market.
Erligmann joins the Alpha Group to lead the strategy, create, and develop the media, TV and licensing business in Europe, and support the development of the company’s toy division, notably the subsidiaries recently established in France, England, and Northern and Eastern Europe, as well as distributors in the other regions.
Antoine will be in charge of TV distribution and licensing development of brands including Super Wings and Infinity Nado. Alpha Group is currently developing other brands that are set to arrive on the market as early as next year.
Erligmann brings a wide range of experience, having most recently held the position of head of EMEA at Nelvana, where he participated in the development of TV distribution in Europe and in the management of brands such as Bakugan, Beyblade, Zhu Zhu Pets, Babar, and Franklin.

Toy State, Marvel Partner for Marvel Universe Superhero Vehicles

Toy State, an innovator in licensed and highly-styled “lights and sound” and radio-controlled vehicles, is adding more muscle behind the wheel. The company has newly joined forces with The Walt Disney Company, one of the most prominent entertainment companies in the world, to begin developing products based on the Marvel Comics property. This new partnership grants Toy State the rights to expand its fleet of action-packed licensed vehicles with key superheroes from the Marvel Universe. The debut offerings, featuring Spider-Man, Hulk, Iron Man, Captain America, Rocket Raccoon, and more, are set to make their heroic debut at major retailers nationwide this fall.
“Marvel features some the best-known and most sought-after character licenses today,” said Toy State President Andy Friess. “We’re thrilled to be working with the Marvel team to bring these iconic Super Heroes to life and are excited to bring hours of fun, imaginative play through the innovation and excitement packed into this new range of vehicles.”

The Jim Henson Co. Renews Licensing Agreements with Boom! Studios for Classic Brands

Jim Henson Co. signed a new five-year agreement with graphic novel and comic book publisher BOOM! Studios to develop and publish at least 17 new titles for its classic brands, The Dark Crystal, Labyrinth, Fraggle Rock, and The Storyteller.
An earlier agreement between The Jim Henson Co. and BOOM! Studios resulted in the publication of 20 new titles under its Archaia imprint for the four brands.
Also, to celebrate this year’s 35th anniversary of The Dark Crystal movie release, Archaia will publish an official sequel, a 12-issue comic book series titled The Power of the Dark Crystal.  It was recently announced that Jim Henson's The Dark Crystal Tales, a children’s book by writer and artist Cory Godbey, will be released this summer. The publication is a follow-up to Jim Henson's Labyrinth Tales, which debuted last fall and is also written and illustrated by Godbey.

NBC, Universal Brand Development, The ATS Team Partner for the American Ninja Warrior Experience

NBC’s American Ninja Warrior, the obstacle course competition series that is revolutionizing sports entertainment, is coming directly to fans through an immersive live event experience geared for the whole family, it was announced today. Created in close collaboration with NBC, Universal Brand Development and The ATS Team, the specialists who design and build the obstacles and courses for the show, the American Ninja Warrior Experience will give fans of all ages an opportunity to test their “ninja skills.” Tickets for the American Ninja Warrior Experience will go on sale in June, with the first event scheduled for the fall of 2017.

Bringing together the show’s fan-favorite obstacles including, the Warped Wall, Quintuple Steps, Salmon Ladder and many more, the American Ninja Warrior Experience allows participants of all fitness levels to compete against friends and other athletes on a multi-stage adult open course. Super Wings to Make its Debut at The Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade This Year

This Thanksgiving, Jett, from the animated preschool series Super Wings, will make his debut as a character balloon in the 91st annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York City. Jett’s balloon will measure approximately 39 feet wide, 45 feet long, and 30 feet tall.
Super Wings is an action-packed preschool series about a transforming robot-plane named Jett who travels the world delivering packages to children. On every delivery, Jett encounters a new problem that he and his friends the Super Wings must work together to solve. The show currently airs on NBC Sprout and focuses on issues of creative problem solving, cultural diversity, and the environment.
The line of toys by Alpha Group US LLC includes play sets, transforming characters, and more, currently available online and in stores nationwide. Toys based on the new season two episodes will be available this fall.

The Galinha Pintadinha Debuts to English-Speaking Audiences

The licensing market in Brazil has gained more strength each year, and The Galinha Pintadinha is following in the same path. For this reason, the brand could not be left out of the 2017 Licensing Expo. The main news is the release of the Spanish and English versions of the show Galinha Pintadinha Mini, with premieres scheduled for the second half of this year.
“We are the producers of the channel with the most popular Brazilian videos in the country. This channel has been around since the debut of YouTube in Brazil. So, the children here are already very familiar with the Galinha Pintadinha and related products. Our focus now is for the new show to be an absolute success in other countries. A+E Networks, Franco Partner to Bring TV Properties to Housewares and Textile Category

A+E Networks and Franco are partnering to bring popular television franchises and new properties from HISTORY, Lifetime and A&E into housewares and textiles.  The new multi-year licensing agreement includes licensing rights for HISTORY’s Ancient Aliens, The Curse of Oak Island, SIX and Knightfall; as well as Lifetime's Bring It! and A&E’s Duck Dynasty. The deal was announced today by A+E Networks and Franco ahead of Licensing Expo 2017.  
Franco will develop and distribute multi-category collections inspired by each property, encompassing bedding and bedding accessories, beach towels, beach accessories and decorative bath products.  Merchandise will be available in-store and online at department stores, mass retailers and specialty retailers starting spring 2018 in the U.S. and Canada.

Airheads Appoints Seltzer Licensing Group to Lead Licensing Program

McFarlane Toys, CBS Consumer Products Partner to Launch Star Trek: Discovery Toys

McFarlane Toys has signed a toy license deal with CBS Consumer Products to create figures, role play weapons and accessories for the new Star Trek: Discovery television series. In addition, McFarlane Toys will also create merchandise from the entire Star Trek universe, ranging from the iconic classic television series Star Trek: The Original Series to the legendary films.
The initial line will highlight two of the most iconic characters in the Star Trek universe with articulated 7-inch figures of U.S.S. Enterprise Captain James T. Kirk from Star Trek: The Original Series and U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701-D Captain Jean-Luc Picard from Star Trek: The Next Generation. These figures will debut in window box collector packaging and feature iconic accessories such as phasers and communicators.  Various characters from the highly-anticipated Star Trek: Discovery television series and other adaptations will follow.

LIMA Annual Global Licensing Industry Survey Shows Increase in Sales of Licensed Products Last Year

Global sales of licensed products and services continued their solid growth pace in 2016, rising 4.4% to US$262.9 billion, according to the 2017 International Licensing Industry Merchandisers’ Association’s (LIMA) Annual Global Licensing Industry Survey.
Entertainment/Character licensing remains the largest industry category, accounting for US$118.3 billion, or 45% of the total global licensing market. Corporate/Brand Trademarks was the next biggest property type, generating US$54.6 billion in retail receipts for 20.8% of total revenues, followed by Fashion, with US$31.1 billion (11.8% of the total), and Sports at US$25.3 billion (9.6%).
The survey was conducted for the third straight year for LIMA by Brandar Consulting, LLC.  
“The 2017 Survey reinforces the positive momentum of licensed products worldwide and across all categories, especially the large and growing Entertainment/Character sector,” said LIMA President Charles Riotto. “This year’s results also speak to the impressive reach and strength of licensing initiatives in growth markets around the world, contributing to the continued vitality of the industry.”
Among product categories, Apparel led the way with 14.9% of total global licensed retail sales, followed by Toys at 13.3% of the total, and Fashion Accessories at 11.3%. The fastest growing categories were Infant & Pet Products, as more licensors seek to capitalize on strong industry growth present in both sectors worldwide. Fueled by increases in home ownership and new housing starts in developing countries as well as a stronger housing market in the U.S., sales of licensed Home Décor products grew by 8.2% during the current survey period. The Video Games/Software/Apps segment was again a solid performer, growing 8.1%. It is now the fifth largest segment, accounting for 6.9% of revenue.

VIZ Media to Showcase Live-Action Adaptation of Death Note

VIZ Media, LLC, the nation’s premier manga and anime company, will be featuring top titles from its broad catalog at the upcoming Licensing Expo 2017. In this role it is important to understand the needs of each agent and their creative division, supporting the London & New York offices and working with the part time US designer to coordinate design consistency and efficiency.
