  Sony Pictures Consumer Products Signs Licensees for The Smurfs 2

Sony Pictures Consumer Products (SPCP) has signed a roster of licensees for the July 31 release of The Smurfs 2. The Smurfs 2 licensing program includes products across all categories.

In the interactive space, Beeline continues to update and revamp its Smurfs Village mobile game. Ubisoft will have games for both console and handheld, along with a new social game for Facebook. Zuuka will have its electronic books for iOS and Android devices. Goldy Toys has created collectible characters with an interactive augmented reality component consumers can download from the iTunes store.

In the publishing category, Bendon Publishing has coloring and activity books and Simon and Schuster has new storybooks, readers, and a novelization to go with the second film. Other book formats releasing this summer include sound books, look-and-find books, puzzle books, and comic books.

In the toys and games category, Jakks Pacific has added several new products to its line of plush figures, activities, and play sets. Pressman Toy has created board games, card games, and puzzles. USAopoly has teamed up with SPCP on a Monopoly game based on the classic Smurfs characters. Build-A-Bear Workshop will be selling stuffable plush with apparel, accessories, and sound chips (including the new characters, Vexy and Hackus). Other products in this category include costumes, multiple figurines, mash-ems, glow toys, nightlights, flashlights, stickers, trading cards, multiple collectible items, temporary tattoos, and stamps. Other product categories include health and beauty, apparel and accessories, consumables, and stationery and party goods. --

  Panini to Create Masha and the Bear Albums

Animaccord Animation Studios has announced that Masha and The Bear has been chosen by Panini Group to launch sticker albums in Russia and Ukraine.

The new collection, based on the popular series, features Masha's active lifestyle through developing games and creative activities. The albums are also supported with a prize competition. The collection will debut in the beginning of new school season.

Masha and the Bear is aimed at children aged 3-9 years old, launched in 2009 and today is amongst the top three preschool brands in Central and Eastern Europe.

To date, the Masah and the Bear licensing program has more than 100 licensees covering more than 50 product groups.

The worldwide licensing program, excluding the US, is handled through Ink Brands, while recently established Animaccord USA Co will be acting as the property's representative across the United States.

  Zodiak Kids Expands Tickety Toc in Canada

Zodiak Kids, in partnership with Studio Licensing, has signed three new licensing deals for the preschool series Tickety Toc in Canada. Franco Manufacturing will have a vast range of bath and bedding accessories and products, Calego will launch a collection of luggage pieces and bags, and Paris Geneve will have a line of sleepwear for boys and girls. The new merchandise will be available beginning in the fall. Tickety Toc's consumer products program spans product categories including toys, games, activity, apparel, footwear, stationery, publishing, digital content, and DVDs.

  Flying Bark Appoints Faetkenheuer as Marketing Manager

Flying Bark Productions has announced the appointment of Raphaela Faetkenheuer as Marketing Manager.

Raphaela Faetkenheuer joins the company from Studio 100 Media, Munich, Germany where she was employed as Marketing and Brand Manager. She will report into Flying Bark Productions' Managing Director, Jim Ballantine.

In her role at Flying Bark Productions, Raphaela Faetkenheuer will be responsible for the company’s marketing, public relations, brand development, distribution and related projects both within Australia and internationally.

  K'nex, Fox Consumer Products Announce Family Guy Partnership

K'nex Brands has partnered with Twentieth Century Fox Consumer Products to create a new line of building toys inspired by the animated comedy series Family Guy. The partnership combines the K'nex building system with characters and elements from Family Guy, including Peter, Stewie, Brian, the Griffin Family station wagon, and Stewie's time machine. The new K'nex Family Guy building sets will be available at major retailers next spring.

  Haven Launches Paul Frank Model Search

Haven Licensing, on behalf of Saban Brands, has announced the launch of its first Paul Frank model search in Australia in partnership with Pacific Magazines and retailer BIG W, searching for stars to join the Paul Frank Dream Team and appear as the faces of Paul Frank in ads and catalogues nationwide.

The six-month campaign supports the latest Paul Frank ranges in-store at BIG W, which spans from infants, kids to ladies, in fashion apparel, accessories and gardening with over 150 sku's. The model search is being promoted via a print & online media campaign reaching over 21.7 million.

"Haven Licensing is delighted to launch this campaign with BIG W and leading publishing house Pacific Magazines," says Tom Punch, Managing Director of Haven Licensing.   Beanstalk to Build Licensing Programs for Blogs

Beanstalk has partnered with digital strategy and execution agency, Digital Brand Architects (DBA), to build a licensing program for two of their digital brands: Bag Snob and Mrs. Lilien.

Snob Essentials, a new fashion brand from Snob Global Media's blog Bag Snob, will capitalize on the Snobs' keen eye for designer details and authority in high-end fashion across multiple categories, including handbags, denim, and footwear. The global collection will offer fashion and accessories developed with high-quality, sophisticated, functional designs and eye-catching details at more affordable price points.

Mrs. Lilien's licensing program will leverage her colorful and exuberant personality, expertise in styling, and her ability to turn the mundane into the magical with just a few simple changes. Blending humor, a touch of luxury, and a retro sensibility fused with the latest trends and innovations, Mrs. Lilien will offer a collection of products that transform every home, party, and fashion product from ordinary into colorful and extraordinary. Beanstalk will pursue partners for social expressions, gifts, novelties, tabletop items, barware, domestic arts, and other home décor and fashion oriented categories for Mrs. Lilien.

  Nelvana Announces Beyblade McDonald's Promotion

Nelvana Enterprises and d-rights, along with McDonald's France have announced that Beyblade top premiums will be included in Happy Meals this spring.

This four-week national promotion will be available at McDonald's restaurants throughout the country until May 27.

McDonald's has planned a multimedia campaign, which includes interaction on, support from partner websites, a TV spot, and in-store point of sale materials on display across all McDonald's across France.

  Harris Sachs, LLC Signs to Consult for Kergan Brothers/Sonic Drive Ins

Harris-Sachs LLC, a full-service licensing consulting company, announces the client addition of Kergan Brothers, a restaurant management company, operating 25 Sonic Drive-Ins in Louisiana. Harris-Sachs LLC will be responsible for bringing the Louisiana Sonic chain licensing opportunities similar to the successful Rajun Cajun burger promotion Kergan Brothers ran last fall. This promotion featured a Lucks Food Decorating Company Edible Image of the Rajun Cajuns logo on a special Rajun Cajun recipe burger.

  Moose Appoints Lisle to Manage The Zelfs in the UK, Ireland

Moose Enterprises of Australia has appointed Lisle International Licensing to manage the UK and Ireland Licensing program for The Zelfs property.

The Zelfs is a community of elf-like characters who reside in the land of Zardenia. Each Zelf has its own personality, which is reflected in its shock of colored hair and intricate body art (Zelfmark).

In January, the toy line was unveiled to UK and Irish retailers at London Toy Fair by Character Options, the toy distributors for the territory. Lisle is looking to follow the positive reception from the master toy line with the appointment of key licensing partners for next year.

  The Partnership Appointed for Trump Brand

The Trump Organization has appointed The Partnership as the exclusive licensing agency of the Donald J Trump Signature Collection and Trump Home brands for the UK.

The Partnership will be responsible for the implementation and launch of Trump products in this region.

"The Partnership is a leader in developing lifestyle brands through licensing," said Cathy Hoffman Glosser, Executive Vice President of Global Licensing for The Trump Organization. "They have a great understanding of the Trump brand and the UK marketplace. Together, we look to enter new partnerships that will continue to expand the Trump brand's footprint around the globe."

  Saban Brands Appoints Jack Sorensen as President of The Playforge

Saban Brands has appointed Jack Sorensen as president of The Playforge, the company's mobile social games division based in San Francisco. Sorensen will be responsible for overseeing the development of character-based mobile games for mass audiences. Sorensen will also lead efforts to expand, promote, and monetize The Playforge's digital IP, including its flagship mobile title Zombie Farm, through trans-media extensions within traditional media, licensing, and merchandising.

With more than 20 years of game industry experience, Sorensen has managed brands in interactive gaming, including Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Pixar (six films), Dreamworks (two films), The Sopranos, UFC, and Marvel.

Sorensen previously served as executive vice president of Worldwide Studios at THQ Inc., where he was responsible for overseeing all product development, business development, and development acquisitions. During his time at THQ, Sorensen managed the product slate that supported more than $1 billion in revenue. Prior to his role at THQ, Sorensen served as an executive in residence at Crosspoint Venture Partners and as president of LucasArts Entertainment, where he grew its electronic games business into a top five domestic publisher.

  Santoro Appoints Backstage

Santoro has appointed Backstage Licensing as a new licensing agent for its Gorjuss collection in Italy.

Gorjuss already has a strong presence in Italy with apparel lines in Benetton stores all over the country, as well as successful fashion and lifestyle lines distributed by Gut!

Meera Santoro, Creative and Licensing Director comments: "Having worked with Backstage in the past, we think they are the ideal partner for Santoro. We have absolute confidence in Backstage capitalizing on the considerable interest currently being generated by our Gorjuss collection in Italy."

  Pedigree Books Signs for Annoying Orange Annuals

Pedigree Books has signed a new deal to produce a range of Annoying Orange-branded annuals. Fans of the show can now purchase a sticker and poster activity annual, from Pedigree, at a number of major retailers. In addition, a larger Christmas annual publication is set to launch beginning on August 1. The Christmas annual will be packed full of content and interactive features.

Brokered by Rocket Licensing, the deal will see Pedigree team up with a roster of licensing partners, including Underground Toys (toys), Egmont UK (publishing), Pedigree Books (annuals), TV Mania (kids apparel), Poetic Gem (adult apparel), Morphsuits (Morphsuits), and PMS (amusement toys).

  Universal, Warner Bros. to Expand The Wizarding World of Harry Potter

Universal Orlando Resort and Warner Bros. Entertainment have announced an expansion of The Wizarding World of Harry Potter, with a new themed environment, The Wizarding World of Harry Potter– Diagon Alley.

Scheduled to open next year, the world's first centrally themed, multi-park experience expands The Wizarding World of Harry Potter across both Universal Orlando theme parks. The new area will bring to life some of the experiences and places found in and around London in the Harry Potter books and films, offering new adventures for fans and theme park guests from around the world.

Diagon Alley and "London" will be located within the Universal Studios Florida theme park, which is adjacent to Universal's Islands of Adventure theme park, where guests now experience Hogwarts and Hogsmeade. The new area within Universal Studios will be just as expansive, immersive, and authentic as the existing themed environment. Guests will be able to travel between "London" and Hogsmeade aboard the Hogwarts Express. Work on the new area is already underway. When complete, it will feature shops, a restaurant, and an innovative, marquee attraction based on Gringotts bank.

  AriZona, Joe DiMaggio Partner for 8-ounce Drink

AriZona and Joe DiMaggio have partnered for a low calorie, lightly carbonated, all natural drink with espresso. Available in six-packs, Joltin Joe Sparkling Espresso comes in 8-ounce cans.

  Pretty Ugly Signs for Co-Branded Plush, Licensed Sneakers

Pretty Ugly LLC and Warner Bros. Consumer Products, on behalf of DC Entertainment, have partnered for co-branded plush toys and accessories. Gund, a division of Enesco, will produce a range of colorful and collectible superhero plush based on the DC Comics and Uglydoll character universes. A trio, including two versions of Ice-Bat as Batman and Babo as Superman, will launch in the fall.

The plush characters will be available through Diamond Comics and a range of retailers. Funko is also set to offer a collection of vinyl figures based on the DC Comics and Uglydoll plush collaboration during the holiday season. Additional categories of merchandise and collaborative characters will be announced in the coming months.

Pretty Ugly LLC has also partnered with The Ave Venice, a concept store that delivers unique footwear. The Ave Venice will offer a selection of custom designed and printed Uglydoll Converse Chuck Taylors. The initial launch features four styles of Uglydoll characters, Ox, Ninja Batty Shogun, Ice-Bat, and the Uglyverse. The custom shoes are now available exclusively at The Ave Venice in Venice Beach, Calif. and online at

  Peanuts Signs with Khoa Phan for Original Videos

Peanuts Worldwide has signed a deal with Khoa Phan, the stop-motion animator whose whimsical videos using Vine, Twitter's video-based social media app, have attracted thousands of followers and the attention of the Tribeca Film Festival.

In the deal with Peanuts Worldwide, Phan has agreed to develop 12 original videos using Vine based on 12 themes of the Peanuts brand, including the kite-eating tree, Schroeder's music, Linus' blanket, Lucy's psychiatry booth, Snoopy's dog house, Snoopy himself, the Red Baron, Woodstock, baseball games, football games, the Great Pumpkin, and the Little Red-Haired Girl.

Featuring what was to become his signature message, Phan's first "Editor's Choice" Vine video used stop-motion animation to send construction paper "bubbles" floating across a tabletop; as the bubbles pop, they spell out "Have a good day!" To date, Phan has created more than 100 Vine videos and has attracted more than 24,000 Vine followers.

  Target, Warner Bros. Partner for Justice League Merchandise

Target Corp. and Warner Bros. Consumer Products, in partnership with DC Entertainment, have teamed up to introduce an extensive summer collection of exclusive Justice League merchandise. The summer collection was inspired by DC Comics – The New 52 comic book character designs and holds surprises for fans young and old. Featuring the full lineup of DC Comics' iconic Justice League Super Heroes, including Aquaman, Batman, Cyborg, The Flash, Green Lantern, Superman, and Wonder Woman, the summer collection will launch at all U.S. Target stores and on beginning May 19.

The summer collection was co-created by the Target and Warner Bros. Consumer Products design teams and features contemporary and nostalgic, vintage-inspired graphics and designs. With more than 50 summer products available exclusively at Target, some of the more unexpected items include melamine dinnerware that features a purple and pink-clad Wonder Woman; a Batman apron; Gotham City sand toys; and children's Batman, Wonder Woman, and The Flash beach towels that double as capes.

In addition to the exclusive summer collection, Target will be part of a broader partnership with Warner Bros. Consumer Products that will offer more traditional Justice League licensed products. The broader partnership will span more than 20 categories including home, stationery, toys, apparel, and accessories. Target will also offer Justice League Halloween costumes for kids later this year.

With the release of Justice League #1 in 2011, DC Entertainment officially kicked off DC Comics – The New 52 as part of a re-launch of their entire comic book line of 52 new No. 1 issues. DC Comics – The New 52 super heroes are presented in a more contemporary way, including new costumes, characters, and storylines.

  Mr. Men Little Miss Series Digitally Available on Nook, iBooks

Sanrio Inc. and Penguin Young Readers Group have released 40 Mr. Men Little Miss titles in the Nook and iBookstore for the first time. Narrated by Audie and Grammy award-winner Jim Dale, these bright books, with their easily recognizable characters, are easy enough for young readers and witty enough for adults.

Created by British author Roger Hargreaves in 1971, the Mr. Men Little Miss series has evolved into a self-expression brand. The books have sold millions of copies worldwide, introducing readers to some of the zaniest characters in picture book form. Each of the 85 characters and stories capture a universal human characteristic, such as Mr. Happy, Little Miss Sunshine, and Little Miss Giggles. The digital editions, enhanced with Jim Dale's timeless readings, allow users to experience the books as never before. The titles are all available for download in the iBookstore and Nookstore.

  ITV Studios Appoints Vivid as Master Toy Partner

ITV Studios Global Entertainment (ITVS GE) has appointed Vivid as its master toy partner in Europe, Australia, and New Zealand for Thunderbirds are Go!. The children's TV series is co-produced by ITV Studios and Pukeko Pictures in association with Weta Workshop. The series is set to premiere in 2015.

Vivid will produce a range of Thunderbirds are Go! toys, including figurines, vehicles, play sets, die-cast models, role play and dress up toys, construction toys, board games, and puzzles. The products will launch in the UK in 2015 to coincide with the premiere of the new series, 50 years after the television debut of the classic series. The products will then roll out to international markets.

  1928 Jewelry Co. Launches Downton Abbey Collection

1928 Jewelry Co. has been granted the license to produce a line of Downton Abbey jewelry, including necklaces, bracelets, earrings, brooches, rings, hair jewelry, and men's cufflinks. The deal was brokered by Knockout Licensing as the agency responsible for managing the Downton Abbey licensing program in North America.

1928 Jewelry is working closely with Downton Abbey's costume design team to create an officially licensed line of contemporary jewelry with a vintage flair capturing the look of the early 1900s and the feel of the exquisite jewelry seen on the TV drama series.

Knockout Licensing is actively seeking additional licensing partners for product categories including home furnishings, home décor, bedding, kitchen accessories, lighting, timepieces, tableware, and formal attire.

  Evolution Appointed as Global Licensing Agent for Dumb Ways to Die

Evolution has been appointed as the global licensing agent for Metro Trains Melbourne's (Metro) intellectual property Dumb Ways to Die, which originated as a massively popular public service campaign for Melbourne, Australia's public train service. The animated Dumb Ways to Die campaign went viral through YouTube and sharing across social media platforms, including Facebook, Tumblr, Instagram, and SoundCloud. The campaign amassed more than 44 million views worldwide in less than five months.

Evolution will unveil its licensing program for Dumb Ways to Die at this year's Licensing Expo. Product categories Evolution plans to develop include apparel, accessories, headwear; home, housewares, room décor; tech accessories; stationery; paper and party goods, social expression, gifts and novelties, plush, toys, publishing, and health and beauty. Supported by additional online short form content, apps, and promotions, the products will initially be distributed to specialty, department store, and mid-tier retailers beginning early next year.
