Nintendo and Universal Partner for Theme Park Attractions

Nintendo and Universal Parks & Resorts will bring the world of Nintendo to life at Universal theme parks, with experiences based on Nintendo’s games, characters, and worlds. Through the partnership, Nintendo will be expanding the reach and popularity of its characters and intellectual properties.
 
The immersive experiences will include major attractions at Universal’s theme parks and will feature Nintendo’s best-known characters and games. More details will be announced in the future, as the Nintendo and Universal creative teams work to create specific concepts.

Leslie Ferraro Named President, Disney Consumer Products

Leslie Ferraro has been named president, Disney Consumer Products, effective immediately. The new appointment was announced by Robert A. Iger, chairman and CEO, and Thomas O. Staggs, COO, The Walt Disney Co.
 
A 16-year Disney veteran, Ferraro most recently served as Walt Disney Parks and Resorts’ executive vice president of global marketing, sales, and travel operations, where she was responsible for leading the marketing and sales teams in developing consumer campaigns worldwide.
 
As president of Disney Consumer Products, Ferraro will oversee a global operation that delivers innovative and engaging products, from toys and apparel to books and fine art, through its licensing, publishing, and Disney Store businesses. Ferraro assumes the role formerly held by Bob Chapek, who became chairman, Walt Disney Parks and Resorts in February. She will report directly to both Iger and Staggs.

Care Bears Go Digital with #ShareYourCare Promotion

For more than 30 years, the Care Bears have been on a mission to help make the world a better place by spreading messages of sharing and caring wherever they go. Now, doing good can pay off for fans in the Care Bears #ShareYourCare Video Challenge.
 
In this promotion, the Care Bears are asking people to #ShareYourCare and post 15 to 30 second videos to carebearsshare.com showing or telling them how they make the world a better place by loving, caring, sharing, and helping others every day. The four-week contest will award lucky Care Bears fans with pre-paid Care Bears-branded Mastercards and themed merchandise worth up to $1,000.

Epic, Stern Pinball Debut KISS-Branded Pinball Machine

Stern Pinball Inc. and Epic Rights have unveiled a new line of pro, premium, and limited-edition KISS pinball machines. Stern Pinball’s KISS pinball machines reflect the energy, excitement, and experience of a live KISS concert. Players will experience 10 famous KISS hits in the concert arena playfield and embark on an exhilarating experience, ultimately becoming elite members of the KISS Army. Players score points and finish game objectives to fuel the audience’s energy and excitement. Higher scores amp the experience: the higher the energy level, the bigger and louder the show. Players are awarded for completing game goals with a variety of in-game front row seats, backstage VIP access, and multi-ball modes.
 
The game is built on Stern’s new SPIKE pinball platform, which includes an upgraded high-fidelity three-channel audio system that is more than three times more powerful than the previous generation pinball audio system. KISS Pinball includes modern and retro features to appeal to players of all skill levels.
 
KISS Pinball is available through authorized Stern Pinball distributors and dealers worldwide.

9 Story Media Group Options Otis the Tractor

9 Story Media Group has entered into an agreement with Penguin Young Readers for the option to produce an animated TV series based on the children’s book series Otis the Tractor. The series is published by Philomel Books, an imprint of Penguin Young Readers. Under the terms of the deal, 9 Story has also optioned merchandising and licensing rights for the property.

LIMA Partners with UL Product Testing and Consulting Services

The International Licensing Industry Merchandisers’ Association (LIMA) has partnered with Underwriters Laboratories (UL) to provide LIMA members with savings on product testing and consulting services. UL provides services that LIMA members can utilize to help ensure their products meet all of the latest safety guidelines for consumer use.
 
LIMA members worldwide will receive a discount on current pricing for all UL Consumer Product Testing Services. In addition, UL will make information on product safety-related issues and other topics of interest available through webinars, blog posts, and more.

Burger King Global Promotion Features Lalaloopsy, Slugterra

Burger King restaurants and MGA Entertainment (MGAE) have announced a deal for a global promotion featuring MGAE’s Lalaloopsy accessories for girls in Kids’ Meals globally now through June 21. Girls will receive a Jelly Wiggle Jiggle Locket Necklace, a Bubble Smack ‘N’ Pop Compact, Jewel Sparkles Hair Combs, or a Pickles B.L.T. Sound Clip in each Kids' Meal.
 
Burger King Restaurants and DHX Brands have announced a deal for a global promotion featuring DHX’s boys’ action property Slugterra. Burger King Restaurants will feature Slugterra alongside Lalaloopsy toys in Kids’ Meals globally throughout May 2015. Guests will have four different Slugterra toys to choose from and collect during the month.

MGL to Introduce New Artist and Collections at Surtex

To mark its 25th anniversary in October, MGL Licensing has added artist Sharon Turner and the extensive image collection of Art Marketing Ltd. UK to its portfolio. These new additions will debut at Surtex and will be on display at Licensing Expo in Las Vegas.
 
Turner is an artist in the UK with a diverse collection of pattern designs, graphics, and illustrations. Her work has already been licensed by DENY, Urban Outfitters, Nordstrom, and Bed Bath & Beyond. Her work is suitable for stationery, gifts, housewares, and more.
 
Art Marketing’s collection of more than 10,000 images has seen success in wall art in the UK. Now, MGL is representing this portfolio worldwide in all categories. MGL is now actively seeking partners in stationery, cards, gift, wall art, and housewares. Subject matter includes travel, floral, coastal, nature, and vintage.

PercyVites Adds Max & Ruby, Monster Jam to Lineup
 

PercyVites will launch its redesigned website on May 27 with two new licenses: Max & Ruby and Monster Jam. The brands join PercyVites’ portfolio of children's licenses, including Arthur, Caillou, and Johnny Test.
 
PercyVites acquired the digital party product rights to Max & Ruby in a deal with Nelvana Enterprises. The arrangement allows PercyVites to develop a digital party product line around the Max & Ruby franchise by combining various clips of the series and integrating celebration details and photos to create personalized digital party invites and thank you notes.
 
PercyVites also acquired the digital party product rights to the Monster Jam brand in a licensing deal with Feld Entertainment Inc. The new product captures the excitement of Monster Jam and features various clips from the live events. Viewers can immerse themselves in big air jumps, crushing cars, doughnuts, and more.

David Tutera Partners for Line of Fashion Jewelry

David Tutera has entered a partnership with Fuzion Creations for a collection of David Tutera fashion jewelry. The new David Tutera jewelry collections, including rings, earrings, necklaces, and bracelets, will launch in August. The license agreement between David Tutera and Fuzion Creations was created by their respective licensing agencies, The Brand Liaison and Brandgenuity.
 
The David Tutera collection will consist of more than 500 pieces, including 18-, 14-, and 10-karat gold and sterling silver, and will incorporate diamonds, cubic zirconia, synthetic, precious, and semi-precious stones into the designs.
 
The new David Tutera jewelry collections will premier May 29 at the JCK Jewelry show in Las Vegas, and will be available for shipping August 1.

Lawless Entertainment Appointed Worldwide Representatives for Messy Anne

Lawless Entertainment was recently appointed as worldwide representative for Messy Anne, a book-based property created by Daniel Barnhart and John Uhrich targeted toward preschool children.
 
Messy Anne is a story about a little girl named Melissa Anne, whom everyone simply calls Messy because she is known to make messes. Despite her best intentions, Messy’s imagination inevitably gets her into one wild predicament after another, and she is often left to face the consequences of her actions.  
 
Lawless Entertainment will handle all licensing and merchandising worldwide, including publishing and seeking co-production partners for the project.

Kent International, Margaritaville Partner for Exclusive Line of Bicycles

Kent International has entered a three-year agreement as a licensee of the Margaritaville, LandShark, and It’s 5 o’Clock Somewhere brands, with plans to develop a line of co-branded adult and children’s bicycles, helmets, and baskets.
 
Inspired by the lyrics and philosophy of Jimmy Buffett, Margaritaville transports guests to the island destination of their memories or dreams. Kent International will apply that essence of escapism and tropical spirit to the co-branded line, which will be distributed to all of its retailers in the U.S.
 
Kent International recently opened a 200,000-square-foot bicycle manufacturing facility in Manning, S.C., to supply Wal-Mart and other retailers with the first domestically produced bicycles sold in more than 15 years. The opening of the facility will contribute to the creation of more than 200 jobs by 2017.

Thomas & Friends Kicks off 70th Birthday Celebrations

May 12 marked 70 years since the “The Railway Series” began as a collection of stories featuring Thomas the Tank Engine created by the Reverend W. Awdry.
Kicking off 70 years of the brand, Thomas and his friends celebrated this historic milestone with a VIP party at the British Museum in London over the weekend, with a host of special guests including the Awdry family and the star of the show himself - an 8ft Thomas replica engine.
 
Celebrities and their children including comedian Rufus Hound, The One Show’s Alex Jones, and writer and presenter Danny Wallace were also among the party guests with a ticket for Thomas’s big day.  Attractions at the event included a selection of rare Thomas memorabilia, a 70 Years Thomas & Friends timeline mapping out his story, children’s play area full of toys, a giant Thomas birthday cake and a ‘First Friends Memory Booth’ for the guests to record their own Thomas & Friends memories.
 
Christopher Awdry said: “Thomas has been one of my closest friends for the past 70 years.  Having been dreamt up by my father when I was a young boy, his adventures have kept me entertained my entire life.  It is a pleasure to see the joy that Thomas and his friends are still bringing to the lives of children today, and they will be keeping children entertained for many years to come.”

Tiger Team to Be Developed for TV by Zodiak

Zodiak Kids announced today that it has entered a production and distribution deal with Tower 10, the Austrian production company founded by best-selling children’s author Thomas Brezina. The deal will cover a string of co-productions between newly-formed production arm Zodiak Kids Studios and Tower 10, the first of which will be an animated TV series based upon Thomas Brezina’s hugely popular Tiger Team book series.
 
Tiger Team follows three central characters, young detectives Leonie, Luke and Patrick, as they travel to exciting locations, solve baffling cases and face sinister felons. Tiger Team is already an acclaimed book series, having sold more than 30 million copies worldwide with over 100 editions published and translated into 24 languages. 
 
Jean-Philippe Randisi, CEO of Zodiak Kids, said: “In Tower 10 we have found an ideal production partner to work with to create children’s series with worldwide appeal. Tiger Team has already achieved massive success with audiences across many countries and we look forward to extending the brand into other media.”

Emma Fogden Announced as Editorial Director at Egmont Publishing UK

Egmont Publishing UK, Magazines has announced the appointment of Emma Fogden as Editorial Director for the Group.
 
Emma will join Egmont in May and will report directly into Gillian Laskier, Managing Director, Magazines.  Laskier commented: “I am delighted to welcome Emma to our fantastic creative, commercial and professional senior team. Emma brings a wealth of experience. Wolfblood Lands New Publishing Deal

Bulldog Licensing has announced a new deal for Wolfblood, with Autumn publishing/Bonnier joining the licensing programme for the award-winning CBBC show. 
 
The new deals will see a range of Wolfblood formats hitting the shelves, including series novelisations, box sets, graphic novels, journals, complete guides, poster books and annuals. Electronic versions of all titles will also be released.
 
Created by Debbie Moon and co-produced by CBBC and ZDFE, Wolfblood centres on the lives and dramas of seemingly normal teenagers who live a secret life as Wolfbloods - humans that can turn into wolves.
Wolfblood has seen success on CBBC, with three series broadcast so far and a fourth in production, whilst popular male-lead Bobby Lockwood won a Children’s BAFTA for his role as Rhydian in the show. Legions of fans from all over the world love Wolfblood and thousands of “Wolfpackers” have posted on the show’s CBBC fansite forum.
 
“Wolfblood has a massive following on TV so these books are sure to fly off the shelves,” says Bulldog Licensing Manager, Vicky Hill.  “This deal adds to a wide-ranging licensing programme, which underlines the strength of what is a rapidly growing brand.”

Smiley Flags on Trend

In 1997, CEO of Smiley Nicolas Loufrani came up with the concept of transforming national flags into Smiley icons and 18 years on this design concept remains a major global trend.
 
Fashion icon and creative director Jeremy Scott built a whole Moschino capsule collection for spring summer 2015 around Smiley’s world famous flag style guide and
this featured as an all over print on a complete range of clothing and accessories in the brands catwalk shows in London and Milan, as well as today selling in some of the world’s leading boutiques. The brand also used the Smiley Italian flag as its submission as part of the cultural initiative to celebrate Milan hosting Expo 2015 in May this year, with a Smiley Italian flag manhole cover installed on the iconic Milan streets via Montenapoleone and via S.Andrea Smiley flags, remains Smiley’s oldest style guide that is still in use today.
 
 The unique heritage and emotional attachment flags have in popular culture and lifestyle trends today could not be more apparent, and this will extend into 2016 with the introduction of an exclusive new style guide based on the popular Smiley flags style guide and celebrating the nations of sports. This new development also features a range of limited edition and brand new emoticons based around the wide variety of sports disciplines that will feature next summer, as well as a Rio themed lifestyle style guides. This new development will create excellent commercial opportunities available to Smiley partners ahead of the two major International sporting events taking place in Brazil and Europe next summer, where national flags will be at the middle of all media focus.

New Winx Club Movie Flies into Finland

Rainbow has announced that the The Mystery of the Abyss – the new Winx Club movie – has just been released across Finland.
 
The movie, distributed by Primal Screen, hit the big screen in towns and cities throughout the country from May 8th.
 
“The Mystery of the Abyss has already been released around the globe, through both cinemas and home entertainment, and has been a huge success,” says Andrea Graciotti, Head of Sales and co-production of Rainbow Group. “I hope Finnish fairy fans will also be delighted by the new amazing adventures the Winx face in this new movie!”  

Registration Now Open for Brand Licensing Europe 2015

Registration is now open for Brand Licensing Europe, the UBM Advanstar organised licensing exhibition, which runs from 13 – 15 October 2015. Visitors can register for free at www.brandlicening.eu.
 
In 2014 over 7,164 retailers, licensees and sales promotion professionals attended from over 65 countries. There was also a 28% increase in retailers attending the show.

Red Herring Games Reaches Branson’s Pitch to Rich Shortlist

Red Herring Games, the murder mystery entertainment specialist, has made the Pitch to Rich shortlist of 150 established businesses and start-ups.
 
Entrepreneur Richard Branson leads the panel. The nationwide competition, which began last month aims to find the brightest and best businesses in the UK and give them the support to be the best they can.
 
With the winner receiving £250,000 to fund their marketing activity, this opportunity has whetted the appetite of nearly 3000 aspiring Bransons across the country. With the funds, the company is looking to expand both the murder mystery game portfolio and offer the Red Herring Games murder mystery event service to more hospitalities.

New Trend Guide for Space Invaders

Square Enix and Taito, owners of Space Invaders, have released a new guide to allow licensees to develop fashion and trend product across different categories.
 
Janet Swallow, Square Enix’ Vice President, Licensing Worldwide says: “Space Invaders is one of the leading pop-culture icons, and we wanted to give consumers fresh, innovative, and relevant product. We commissioned design agency Watermelon to look at future trends and together with our licensing agency CPLG, we identified three strong design directions.  All the new art is recognizably Space Invaders but with a twist that we know will engage fans and broaden the appeal.”
