The Very Hungry Caterpillar Celebrates 45th Anniversary at Barnes & Noble, Launches New App

On the FarmThe Joester Loria Group partnered with Barnes & Noble to celebrate The Very Hungry Caterpillar’s 45th Anniversary with hands-on learning events across the country from April 25 to May 4. The educational program was tailored to kids ages 3 to 6 and showcased The Very Hungry Caterpillar Color-In Crown, from Mudpuppy, which features Eric Carle’s illustrations and characters from his books. The event encouraged kids to develop their creativity and social skills through sharing and storytelling. Kids had the chance to learn, color, share, and take home their custom-created crowns after enjoying treats from the Barnes & Noble Café.
Publications International Ltd. (PIL) and The World of Eric Carle launched a new Eric Carle’s On the Farm app, featuring animal sounds, rhymes, songs, and surprises. The app is available in the Apple App Store for iDevices.

Nicole RichieNicole Richie will deliver The Big Interview keynote address at Licensing Expo this year. The keynote will be presented on Tuesday, June 17 as a Q&A session.
Richie is the founder and creative director of the House of Harlow 1960 brand, which encompasses categories of jewelry, eyewear, handbags, shoes, and ready-to-wear items. She has also launched a perfume, Nicole by Nicole Richie, the Nicole Richie Collection for QVC, and an Impulse Collection for Macy’s.

Lift Brands Launches YogaFit Studios

Lift BrandsLift Brands has partnered with YogaFit, the largest yoga-training program in the world, to offer a new yoga franchise called YogaFit Studios. It will offer live and virtual on-demand yoga classes for all skill levels. Lift Brands has set the initial price to open a studio at $80,000 and has pledged a charitable contribution on behalf of every membership.

Voting Now Open for LIMA International Licensing Excellence Awards

LIMAThe ballot for the International Licensing Industry Merchandisers’ Association’s (LIMA) 2014 International Licensing Excellence Awards competition is now set, featuring a record 118 nominees in 20 categories, including licensing, retailing, promotion, and consumer products arenas. LIMA members may cast their votes online through Wednesday, May 14. The winners will be announced at the LIMA Opening Night Awards Ceremony on Tuesday, June 17, during Licensing Expo 2014 in Las Vegas.
This year’s nominating season was the biggest ever, with a total of 360 entries, a 36 percent increase from last year. Nominations came in from 16 countries, including first-time nominees from India and Korea.
The 2014 ballot introduces two new categories: Digital/New Media and Location-Based or Experiential Initiatives, and makes Celebrity licensing a classification of its own, separate from Film and Television. Additional categories include Character or Toy Brand; Art or Design; Sports or Sports-Themed Entertainment; Corporate Brand; Film, Television or Entertainment; Retailer of the Year; and Best Licensed Promotion.
In addition, an award for Overall Best Licensed Program, representing each of the major property classifications, will honor one of these nominees:
Angry Birds Star Wars, from Rovio and Lucasfilm; Dena, from Dena Designs; Doctor Who, from BBC/BBC Worldwide Americas; Duck Dynasty, from A+E Networks/Brandgenuity; Monster High, from Mattel; One Direction, from Global Merchandising Services; PGA Tour, from PGA Tour/IMG Worldwide; and Stanley Black & Decker, from Stanley Black & Decker/Beanstalk.

Hit Entertainment, Universal Enter Distribution Agreement for Preschool Series

Thomas the Tank EngineHit Entertainment and Universal Studios Home Entertainment have signed an agreement that gives Universal distribution rights to Hit’s award-winning family content library. Universal will distribute, sell, and market titles such as Thomas & Friends, Angelina Ballerina, and Barney & Friends in the U.S. and Canada across Blu-Ray, DVD, Electronic Sell-Through, and video on demand platforms beginning October 1.
In addition, the two companies will work together to distribute new content produced by Hit, including the upcoming Thomas & Friends feature, Tale of the Brave.

Sanrio, Chan Luu Partner for Hello Kitty Jewelry Line

Hello Kitty braceletsSanrio Inc. and Chan Luu have come together to launch an exclusive Hello Kitty hand-made jewelry collection. The collection will feature wrap bracelets, cuffs, and layering necklaces with select pieces accented with Swarovski crystals and Hello Kitty charms.

Wicked Cool ToysWicked Cool Toys has reached a multi-year licensing agreement with Sesame Workshop for summer and seasonal toys based on classic Sesame Street legacy characters, including Elmo and Cookie Monster. The agreement covers North America, and the line will feature items such as balls, hoppers, sand toys, sprinklers, sand boxes, water and sand activity tables, pools, and more. The line will be available late next spring.

Beanstalk, a global brand extension agency, has launched Blueprint – Powered by Beanstalk, a new consulting division dedicated to advising companies on how to evolve their brands through innovative and commercially viable brand development and extension strategies. Blueprint will work with brand owners, retailers, and manufacturers to evaluate and analyze their distinct needs and provide a road map to open doors to new markets, audiences, and revenue.

Trend Lab, Copyrights Group Sign Deal for Paddington Bear Line

Trend Lab LLC has signed an agreement with The Copyrights Group to create a Paddington Bear product line. The collection will include infant crib bedding, room décor accents, and gifts. The line will launch later this year to coincide with the movie release and will expand with more products next year.
Products will include Paddington’s favorite food, marmalade; his suitcase; London landmarks; and the famous tag line, “Please look after this bear. Thank you.”

Nick Jr. Renews Julius Jr. for Second Season

Nick Jr. has picked up Julius Jr. for a second season in the U.S. The animated preschool series by Saban Brands is inspired by the character Paul Frank and debuted on the network last September.
Nick Jr. will premiere new episodes of Julius Jr. on the first Saturday in May. The show’s themes will be brought to life with a toy line from Fisher-Price Inc., the global master toy licensee for the brand. The line will include play sets and plush assortments. The toys will hit Toys “R” Us shelves starting in mid-June with a full rollout at key retailers this fall. 

Silver Dolphin Books and Skyreader Media Partner for Launch

Silver Dolphin Silver Dolphin Books and Skyreader Media Inc. have partnered on the launch of three new interactive apps based on Silver Dolphin Books’ Totally Monster book series.
The launch celebrates “Get Caught Reading” month, a nationwide campaign held each year in May to remind people of all ages how much fun it is to read, and coincides with the start of Silver Dolphin Books’ contest to win one of five Totally Monster books and apps prize packs.

Half a Million Trashies Sold Over Easter in Canada

Over the Easter weekend, it has been announced that over 500,000 of the Trash Pack characters were sold across Canada.
“It’s safe to say that Trash Pack fever is still very much alive” said Véronique Léonard, Brand manager at Imports Dragon. “If the trend continues as it has across the world, we can expect some more amazing results for series 5 and 6 coming out this Summer and Fall respectively.”

Destination Star Trek Makes Voyage Back to London

Destination Star Trek 3Destination Star Trek (DST) will return to the UK for its third event. The franchise, which has held events in both London (October 2012) and Frankfurt (February 2014), will return to the Excel Centre in London from October 3 to 5.
Star Trek fans can immerse themselves in sets, props, talks, screenings, and merchandise, all exclusive to the DST brand. DST gives fans the chance to mingle with actors, producers, and other fans.
DST3 will open with a glittering opening ceremony. The event will feature guest talks, autograph opportunities, photo shoots with the stars, and the chance to stand in the TNG Bridge set and Borg regeneration Chamber. 
The event is under license by CBS Consumer Products.

Sky Movies, Paramount Pictures Seal Licensing Deal

Sky has signed a licensing agreement with Paramount Pictures to show new movie releases before any other subscription service in the UK. Sky customers will gain exclusive early access to blockbusters on TV as well as its Mobile TV facility, allowing customers to view the content on various devices.

Bulldog Licensing Signs Additional Deals for Wolfblood Brand

WolfbloodBulldog Licensing Inc. has inked new deals with Danilo and Fashion UK for the CBBC show Wolfblood. Danilo will create greeting cards and calendars, while Fashion UK will produce nightwear and underwear.
Bulldog has signed Smith & Brooks for apparel and VMC for accessories. Bulldog is looking to expand the brand further into publishing, board games, card games, and stationery lines. 

Bulldog Signs Deal to Represent Dead Island, Saints Row

Dead IslandBulldog Licensing Inc. has signed a sub-agency agreement with Game of 2 Halves that will allow the company to represent the gaming brands Dead Island and Saints Row in the United States and Canada.
Publisher Deep Silver produces both properties, which are targeted at 18 to 34 year-old men. The properties have potential for apparel, accessories, books, posters, and collectibles.

Zodiak Hires Global Formats Chief

Grant RossZodiak Media has hired Grant Ross for the new role of EVP Global Creative Development and Format Acquisition.
Ross will be responsible for driving Zodiak's global formats business, including the acquisition of international formats around the world, but also leading in-house format development.
Ross will also co-chair Zodiak's newly created International Development Board together with Joel Karsberg, Chief Creative of Zodiak Nordic, through which he will be responsible for driving creative development across all territories, turning locally produced properties into global formats.
Ross joins from Endemol, having joined in 2007 as Director of International at Endemol France. He was promoted to Global Head of Acquisitions at Endemol Group in October 2009.

Evolution Europe has announced a new licensing tie up for the Dumb Ways To Die property, with GB eye confirmed to produce a range of print products and accessories.
GB eye’s full assortment of licensed merchandise will include branded posters, prints, canvas wall art, framed photographs, badges, temporary tattoos, stickers, fridge magnets, mugs and bracelets. The new range of merchandise will appear throughout retail from Summer 2014.
Dumb Ways To Die, the public service announcement for Metro Trains Melbourne, has now become a global property.

Duff Beer Launches in Australia

Duff BeerComing soon to Australia, the official Duff Beer will be available at BWS and Dan Murphy’s liquor stores beginning May 28. Ahead of its arrival in-store, a pop-up of the iconic Moe’s Tavern will open to the public at the Woolloomooloo Bay Hotel from May 23 to 30.
Duff Beer will launch down under as a true premium lager that holds a clean, crisp, and refreshing taste along with its iconic packaging. A superbly crafted lager, Duff Beer is a high quality, traditional beer that balances flavor and refreshment and features a deep golden color with caramel aromatics and a hint of fruit.
In the past, Duff has only been available through counterfeit and imitations. This is the first official Duff Beer from the people who created the Duff brand.
The pop-up Moe's Tavern will be a representation of the legendary Moe’s Tavern of Springfield fame. With Duff Beer exclusively on tap, Moe’s Tavern will also serve a host of Springfield’s finest food, including Krusty Burgers, Duffalo Wings, and Lard Lad donuts.

Bruce Anthony has over 40 years of creative Licensing, Domestic and Overseas Sourcing, Marketing, Sales experience, and assisting in "Total Management" abilities.

He has hands-on experience of multiple successful projects and experience working within the world of consumer packaged goods, specializing in souvenir, gift & stationery, sporting goods, educational and generic toys, cosmetics, room/home décor fields. He has worked with The Walt Disney Company, Coca Cola Sony Entertainment, 20th Century Fox, Warner Brothers, among others, and has in-depth knowledge of most of the retail categories of trade, as well as the licensing industry! He is looking for new opportunities in the licensing industry for a permanent position with licensors or licensees.
