GBI Signs New Deals for SpacePOP

Genius Brands International Inc. (GBI) signed new partners for SpacePOP merchandise.
Taste Beauty will make beauty products, including lip balm, lip gloss, nail polish, nail accessories, bath and body products, and specialty gift sets. Imprint will launch a book series, Not Your Average Princesses, with graphic novel inserts written by Erin Downing and illustrated by Jen Bartel. Bare Tree Media will craft emoticons, digital photo stickers, mobile phone themes, and web-enabled TV themes. Canal Toys will make craft and activity kits and Yowie Group Ltd. will make chocolate versions of SpacePOP princesses and the evil Empress Geela.
The new licensees join GBI’s current partners, including Jaya Apparel, H.E.R. Accessories, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment, and Imprint.

Rubie’s Costume Co., Marvel Partner for Captain America: Civil War Collection

Rubie’s Costume Co. partnered with Marvel for the Captain America: Civil War Costume Collection, which will launch this Halloween.
The collection includes multiple superheroes, such as Captain America, Iron Man, the Winter Soldier, Black Widow, Vision, and Hawkeye. New characters include Black Panther, Crossbones, Falcon, War Machine, and Scarlet Witch. Costumes are available in adult and kid sizes.
Each costume is based on a lifelike representation of the characters portrayed on the big screen. Rubie’s Pet Shop Boutique offers new styles for pets and Imagine by Rubie’s offers dress-up costumes and accessories for kids.
Marvel Captain America: Civil War will release in theaters on May 6.

NBCUniversal Set to Buy DreamWorks Animation

NBCUniversal, owned by Comcast, has set in motion a deal to buy DreamWorks Animation for $3.8 billion.

DreamWorks Animation will become part of NBCUniversal’s Universal Filmed Entertainment Group. Chris Meledandri, head of Universal’s Illumination Entertainment animation wing, will oversee operations.

DreamWorks Animation CEO Jeffrey Katzenberg will become chairman of DreamWorks Animation New Media, comprising its ownership stakes in AwesomenessTV and Nova, which will be part of NBCUniversal. Katzenberg will also serve as a consultant to NBCUniversal.

Peanuts TV Series Launches in the U.S. on May 9

The new animated TV series Peanuts, based on the classic comic strip by the same name, is set to premiere on Boomerang on May 9 in the U.S. New episodes will premiere daily at 11:30 a.m. EST.
Viewers can also get a sneak peek of Peanuts on Cartoon Network for a week starting May 9 at 10:30 a.m. (EST/PST). Individual shorts of the series will roll out on the Cartoon Network video app.
Peanuts features a watercolor art style, textured backgrounds, and framing for old and new fans. The series captures the adventures of a boy named Charlie Brown and his dog Snoopy.

Corus Appoints Pam Westman as Head of Nelvana Enterprises

Corus Entertainment appointed Pam Westman as head of Nelvana Enterprises. In her new role, Westman will oversee brand development and management across Nelvana’s portfolio, including retail, licensing, consumer products, content sales, and digital divisions.
Previously, Pam worked as the director of integration for Staples Canada, and as the executive vice president of HIT Entertainment, where she led U.S., Canadian, and Latin American divisions.

Hasbro Scoops Daytime Emmy Award

The 43rd Annual Daytime Emmy Awards winners were announced this past weekend, and Hasbro Studios earned a win after being nominated for four categories.
Jeff Bennett received an award for “Outstanding Performer in an Animated Program” for his role as Mayor Luskey in Transformers Rescue Bots (on Discovery Family).

Peter Rabbit Scores Two Daytime Emmy Awards

Silvergate Media has announced that Peter Rabbit, its 3D Computer-generated imagery animated TV series for pre-schoolers has won two Daytime Emmy awards.
Peter Rabbit won the Outstanding Special Class Animated Program award and also won the Outstanding Individual Achievement in Animation award (Storyboard Artist, Benjamin Sanders). Peter Rabbit was also nominated for Outstanding Direction in an Animated Program.
Peter Rabbit was developed by Silvergate and Penguin Books. Beatrix Potter’s classic character, Peter Rabbit, returned to the screen in 2013, in a brand new 3D animation series for Nickelodeon (Nick Jr) and the BBC (CBeebies).
Waheed Alli, CEO, Silvergate Media said: “We’re very proud of the production. It’s an amazing testament to Paula Rosenthal and the team for bringing back this timeless classic to a new audience.”

Big Tent Entertainment Enters Two Apparel Deals for Miffy and Friends

Big Tent Entertainment, the North American licensing agent for Mercis’ Miffy and Friends, signed apparel deals with Kira Kids and Beanstalx Baby, featuring Miffy.  
Kira Kids will expand its Kira Kids x Miffy collection with T-Shirts, dresses, skirts, and pants for kids up to 8 years old at retail channels, including Barneys NY and specialty boutiques in the U.S., Canada, and on The newborn collection is available exclusively on
Beanstalx Baby will debut a classic layette collection, including playsuits, gowns, and bodysuits; and fashion styles, such as tunic sets, appliquéd sweaters, and bubble rompers. The collection for newborns and kids up to 18 months old will launch next January.

happi by Dena Signs New Licensees and Retailers

The Joester Loria Group brokered multiple deals with licensees and retailers for happi by Dena gifts, book, keepsakes, and bedding lines for infants. Licensees include CR Gibson, Lambs & Ivy, and Olivia.  
The happi by Dena CR Gibson collection includes first-year calendars, memory/keepsake books, scrapbooks and scrapbook kits, hand/footprints kits, photo frames, photo albums, growth charts, keepsake/trinket boxes, and melamine dinnerware sets, ranging from $10 to $42.
Lambs & Ivy’s Line by happi by Dena will expand with new bedding collections, room accessories, blankets, and plush ranging from $17.99 to $149.99 at Buy Buy Baby, Baby Depot, and online retailers, including Amazon and Baby Supermall.
The happi by Dena Olivia collection will launch exclusively in more than 245 Babies “R” Us stores and online this May, featuring orchid, eggplant, violet, and aqua designs in cotton voile fabric. Medallions, feathers, and geometric patterns mix and match to create these bedding sets.
Checks in the Mail also renewed its partnership with happi by Dena and will launch three new check collections this fall.
The new happi by Dena collections will be promoted via social media and mommy blogger features.

FC Bayern Munich, One Entertainment Partner for Club-Branded Merchandise in the U.S.

FC Bayern Munich partnered with One Entertainment to accelerate the club’s branded merchandising strategy in North America. 
The two will work to market, promote, and license across a range of product categories, including apparel, accessories, and housewares.
Currently available online, FC Bayern merchandise will be available for the first time in the retail market in the U.S.

Atari Launches Two Video Games Under Battlezone IP

This year, Atari will launch two video games under its Battlezone brand, Battlezone 98 Redux and Battlezone, with the help of UK game developer Rebellion.
Battlezone 98 Redux is a new version of the 1998 Battlezone game from Activision. It retains the original’s first-person tank combat view and real-time strategy.
Battlezone is a VR reboot of the 1980 arcade game. Battlezone’s VR immersion places players in the cockpit of a tank as they fight mechanized enemies across sci-fi landscapes. Battlezone will launch alongside PlayStation VR this October and Oculus Rift later this year.
Battlezone is available for licensing in apparel, toys, electronics, and trend merchandise categories.

TM International Sells Format Rights to Date the Chef and My Perfect Party

Tele München Group’s (TMG) world sales arm TM International has secured rights to two formats that premiered this year on television and saw strong interest after this year’s MIPTV.
Date the Chef just recently won the Romy Award in the category Best Program Idea and tripled ATV’s market share in the target group already at its premiere on February 10th. RTL II has secured format rights for Germany and will premiere the program soon. Broadcasters from France and Scandinavia have shown interest.
My Perfect Party is a new format that features five candidates who compete in the categories catering, best party people and fun factor. In each category the contestants – who have all been invited – give one another points from one to five; at the end of the party marathon, in which there was one party per day for five days, the one with the most points wins a dream trip. The show will premiere on RTL II on May 30th. TM International sold the rights to Hervé Hubert for France.

Firefly Brand Management Launches Firefly Consumer Products Inc.

Firefly Brand Management LLC launched Firefly Consumer Products Inc. (FCP) to assist manufacturers with identifying licensees and brands that drive revenues.
Cynthia Modders, the president and founder of Firefly will head FCP. She will work closely with manufacturers to identify new opportunities that will lead to long-term expansion.
Firefly Brand Management will focus on brand management and securing licensing deals for its roster of clients. FCP will announce its first project at this year’s Licensing Expo in Las Vegas.

Steel Urban Licensing LLC, licensor of Graffiti Greetings, partnered with for prepaid debit cards featuring graffiti works in the U.S.

I have 8 years experience of working for a large London Publishing house licensing book content to third parties. I am looking for a role which utilises my skills in negotiation and relationship building and can develop my experience within the licensing field. Having licensed book content to a wide variety of customers from national Newspapers to international Publishers I would relish the experience to work in a new industry, licensing new content to new clients.
I realise that a move across from traditional publishing may mean a step down from the managerial role I was in before. I'm enthusiastic to work in a new industry and feel my skills are easily transferable and am happy to look outside licensing roles also.
