Toys "R" Us Becomes Destination: Star Wars, Kicks Off Year-Long Global Celebration

On May 3, all Toys "R" Us locations nationwide will celebrate Star Wars Day with one-of-a-kind in-store experiences. Fans of all ages who visit their local store from 12 to 2 p.m. are invited to dress as their favorite Star Wars character, take a picture with Geoffrey the Giraffe, and experience a special Lego Star Wars build and giveaway, while supplies last. Event attendees can also enter to win a $1,000 Toys “R” Us gift card and a trip for four to Toys “R” Us Times Square in New York City for a private Star Wars shopping experience this fall.

Throughout 2015, customers will find promotions and discounts on Star Wars items in-store and online, starting with a buy one get one 40 percent off all Star Wars merchandise offer, valid from May 3 through May 9 at Toys “R” Us stores nationwide and online. Additionally, gamers can preorder Star Wars Battlefront. The video game will be available November 17 and will allow players to immerse themselves in epic Star Wars battles.

To provide customers with an immersive, digital destination for all things Star Wars, Toys "R" Us has created an online Star Wars hub at Toysrus.com/DestinationStarWars, which will showcase video content, event information, and more later this year.

CBS Consumer Products Debuts Penny Dreadful Collection at Hot Topic

CBS Consumer Products, Showtime, and Hot Topic have collaborated for an apparel line inspired by the series Penny Dreadful, set to coincide with the second season, which will premiere May 3. Hitting stores late next month, Hot Topic will feature an exclusive Penny Dreadful-inspired line of women’s clothing, including tanks, dresses, and jackets incorporating the macabre imagery and themes from the show. The line is available for pre-order at hottopic.com.

Starting May 26, Hot Topic will put the line on full display with Penny Dreadful window designs in select Hot Topic stores nationwide. All stores will feature in-store signage that will promote the show and collection through June 7. During this time, fans will also receive a Penny Dreadful necklace with a purchase, while supplies last. Additionally, Hot Topic is hosting a Pinterest sweepstakes through May 19 that asks fans to create a board inspired by the show for a chance to win the entire Penny Dreadful fashion collection.

Titan Books is publishing The Art and Making of Penny Dreadful, a behind-the-scenes book that unearths the show's secrets and dissects every aspect of the production. Also debuting this spring are Penny Dreadful table linens and home accessories from Museum of Robots; glassware, impulse, and décor from Just Funky, and on-demand products from Gold Label. Rolling out later this year, Cryptozoic will unveil trading cards; USAopoly will launch a CLUE: Penny Dreadful Edition and a collectible sculpted scene of the Rebirth of Brona; Bif Bang Pow! will expand its current offerings to include new character action figures and prop replica-style journals; Tonner Dolls will debut high-end fashion dolls; and Rizzoli will publish a 2016 wall calendar.

Hulu Inks Multiyear Content Licensing Deal with Turner Broadcasting

Hulu has partnered with Turner Broadcasting to become the exclusive subscription video-on-demand home to programming from Adult Swim and Cartoon Network, in addition to select series from TNT and TBS. This deal marks the first licensing agreement between the two companies.

Painting Lulu Signs Licensing Agreement with Mattel

Painting Lulu has signed a multiyear licensing agreement with Mattel to bring the Barbie and Hot Wheels brands to the physical and digital worlds of Painting Lulu in time for the back-to-school and holiday seasons. The licensed products are the first two licensed brands integrated to the Painting Lulu image-analysis technology. The new experience will feature the brands in a 32-page coloring book, a digital stylus, and the free downloadable coloring app.
 
Painting Lulu is a paper-to-digital coloring set that allows kids to color in a Painting Lulu coloring book with regular crayons and then scan the page using an app on a smart device. Kids can enhance and correct their coloring with tools and colors available on the app.

Hoho Entertainment, TotallyTween Partner for Mimi & Bibi

Hoho Entertainment, the kids' production and rights management company behind Cloudbabies, has partnered with TotallyTween for Mimi & Bibi, an original 26-episode, two-minute animated series for kids ages 8 to 10. Mimi and Bibi are twin sisters who are complete opposites: Mimi is sweet, good, and on a mission to perfect the world; Bibi is a rebel without a cause.
 
TotallyTween is a safe and secure online environment for girls ages 8 to 12 in the UK. TotallyTween allows girls to discover, discuss, and create in an eclectic online community that covers film, books, music, fashion, health, fitness, animals, food, crafts, and social issues.
 
Content is created for tweens, by tweens. Each episode of Mimi & Bibi will be the result of tween input and interaction from the TotallyTween audience. The show will celebrate and encourage difference as the twins debate from opposite sides of the spectrum in a fun and humorous way.
 
Hoho Rights will sell Mimi & Bibi globally, and has developed a product range that reflects the twins' differing points of view.

GBI Appoints NCircle as Home Entertainment Partner for Thomas Edison’s Secret Lab

Genius Brands International has licensed NCircle Entertainment for its animated science-inspired adventure series, Thomas Edison’s Secret Lab. NCircle will widely distribute the show digitally and on DVD at major retail outlets nationwide and online starting in December. The series will also debut on Netflix in July, and on PBS stations and the Kid Genius Cartoon Channel on Comcast in September.

Idea Patch Tapped to Lead Licensing Efforts for Sin City Cabaret

SCE Group is transforming New York-based adult nightclub Sin City Cabaret into a full-scale lifestyle brand targeting the urban market. Licensing and marketing firm Idea Patch has been tapped to lead this expansion.
 
Sin City Cabaret’s reputation as a centerpiece for urban culture has resulted in musical references from hip-hop artists including Fabolous and 50 Cent. Sin City Cabaret has also been featured in music videos, including French Montana’s “Shot Caller” and TV shows such as VH1’s Love and Hip-Hop NY.
 
Idea Patch will develop a comprehensive licensing program for Sin City Cabaret to include a full range of products for men and women, tuning in to the distinct tastes and attitudes emanating from the urban community. Product categories will include apparel, intimates, headwear, hosiery, accessories, and drinkware.

Premier Yarns, PajamaGram Named Downton Abbey Licensees

Knockout Licensing adds two new licensees to its Downton Abbey licensing roster.
Premier Yarns has been granted rights to utilize the Downton Abbey brand, including the color palette associated with its period costumes and sets for hand knitting or crocheting yarns.
The PajamaGram Co. has been granted rights to produce and sell Downton Abbey Pajamas, inspired by individual characters from the show, packaged in vintage-style lingerie bags.

Lawless Entertainment Becomes Worldwide Representative for Rufus

Lawless Entertainment has been appointed as worldwide representative for Rufus, a book-based property that features Rufus, a dog who goes on exciting adventures with his animal friends. There are currently four board books and one hardback book with six Rufus stories selling on Amazon. The titles are also available in ebook format for Kindle and iPads. A full line of 18 Rufus greeting cards are available for purchase from Showcase Greetings, a UK-based greeting card company.
 
Lawless Entertainment is handling all licensing and merchandising worldwide, including publishing. It is also seeking co-production partners for the project.

MHS Licensing Set to Introduce New Artists at Licensing Expo

To mark its 20th anniversary, MHS Licensing has added Kim Norlien and Courtney Morgenstern to its roster of licensed artists. Norlien is a seasoned veteran of art licensing, while Morgenstern is new to the industry. Both will be introduced at Licensing Expo.
 
Norlien, a full-time fine artist, is known for his wildlife and landscape paintings. His images can be seen on products such as puzzles, crafts, greeting cards, and gifts. Morgenstern's 10-year career has focused on commercial graphic design for greeting cards and paper products.
 
At Licensing Expo, MHS Licensing will also introduce new images from its other licensed artists. These art properties generate more than $115 million in annual sales through their licensee partners collectively. MHS Licensing specializes in representing popular artists and advising manufacturers in the search, evaluation, and acquisition of new properties and personalities.

LMCA Secures Residential Plunger License for Roto-Rooter

LMCA has announced that it brokered a license agreement between Roto-Rooter Corporation and Metro Design USA of Marlboro, NJ.  The agreement includes sales and manufacture of a line of Roto-Rooter branded plumbing plungers for residential applications, all of which display Roto-Rooter’s 1-800-GET-ROTO number to insure that the consumer has the solution in their hands come what may. Metro Design is the most recent addition to the Roto-Rooter licensee roster.

Zippy Signs On as New Apparel Licensee for Cloudbabies

Hoho Rights, the commercial arm of kids' production company Hoho Entertainment, has appointed Zippy as a new UK baby and toddler clothing licensee for its pre-school series Cloudbabies.
 
Zippy will develop a range of high-quality baby and toddler apparel and accessories for Cloudbabies, including nightwear, daywear, baby essentials, bibs, and more.
This latest signing follows the recent appointments of IVS Group as the master toy partner, and Global Solutions for Clothing (GSC) as the dress-up partner under the Pretend to Bee brand.
 
Cloudbabies debuted on CBeebies in the UK in May 2012. Aimed at preschool kids, the series features the adventures of four childlike characters whose job it is to look after the sky and their Sky Friends, and teaches children about caring for others and the world around them, introducing them to the wonder of the sky and the concepts of day and night, sun and moon, and rainbows and stars.

Zodiak Kids Launches Multi-Brand YouTube Channels

Zodiak Kids has launched two major multi-brand YouTube Channels ZeeKay and ZeeKay Junior, geared towards the kids and preschool audiences, respectively.
 
ZeeKay Junior, coming to the platform with already established base of 100,000 subscribers from existing Zodiak Kids content on YouTube, will feature new pre-school content as well as key brands including Mister Maker, Waybuloo, Zack & Quack, and support new online pilots.
 
ZeeKay will champion popular owned kids brands such as Totally Spies, Team Galaxy, Martin Mystery and LoliRock, whilst also serving as a hub for all newly commissioned (tween) content, such as CITV’s Scrambled! which features bespoke YouTube formats on the platform.
 
The new Channels will also work closely with recently announced Zodiak Kids Studios and third party producers on creating original content with talent for the platform in order to accumulate subscriber growth and a global audience base. The Channels have a strong existing fan base to build upon as the Zodiak Kids catalogue has earned over 1.6 billion views on YouTube to date and provides kids content in all 256 territories.

DHX Media to Launch Slugterra App

DHX Media is set to launch a second Slugterra mobile game. The game Slugterra: Slugslinger Showdown will be available in the App Store for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch on May 7, 2015. This release follows the success of the first mobile game Slugterra: Slug it Out!, which launched in December 2012 and has hit #1 spots for free action or puzzle game for iPad in 23 territories to date.
 
Slugterra: Slugslinger Showdown will be available in the App Store in more than 130 countries in English, Arabic, French, Italian, Korean, Portuguese, Spanish and Turkish-language versions.

Pink Key Appointed by Egmont

Pink Key Consulting Ltd has been appointed by Egmont Publishing UK as exclusive licensing agent for the publishers’ portfolio of classic comic materials.
 
Egmont Publishing UK owns an archive of classic comic artwork including Roy of the Rovers Battle (including Charlie’s War), Whizzer and Chips, Misty and Tammy.

Al Jazeera and Everything’s Rosie Continue Agreement

Al Jazeera Children's Channel (JCC) has announced the continuation of its long-term co-production agreement with V&S Entertainment, the UK-based Production Company behind pre-school brand "Everything's Rosie", for the fourth series of their high definition CGI animation.
 
JCC's Acting Executive General Manager and Director of Channels, Saad Al-Hudaifi, said: "We are delighted that Rosie's popularity continues to rise in the Arabic speaking nations and has established itself as a mainstay on our channel. Baraem TV see Rosie as a long-term commitment."

Helena Mansell-Stopher Set to Join Team Bulldog 

Bulldog Licensing has announced that Helena Mansell-Stopher will be joining the company as Retail Licensing Director.
 
Helena has held senior positions at Hit, 4Kids, Marvel and most recently as UK Consumer Products Territory Lead at Mattel. During her career, she has helped boost major brands including Thomas and Friends, Barbie, Monster High, Spiderman, Hot Wheels, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Nintendo, Pokemon and many more.  Her move to Bulldog will see her working with one of the industry’s leading licensing agencies, with a strong and diverse portfolio of properties such as the UK’s biggest new property Shopkins, long-standing household favourite Garfield, a stable of hit gaming brands from Electronic Arts, and Iconic Images - the archive for 60s and 70s pop culture, Hollywood glamour and rock & roll.

Maps Toys and Radz Ink Shopkins Deal

Maps Toys and Radz have signed a deal with Moose Toys to create a unique new Shopkins line.
 
The new partnership will see Maps introduce a brand new range of Shopkins Radz. Based on the varied Shopkins characters including Lolli Poppins and Strawberry Kiss, the Radz Candy and Dispenser are set to be a collectable toy and fashion accessory for fans of the supremely popular license. The new range will encourage repeat purchases so children can collect every character and the impulse price point and multiple CDU possibilities for retailers make it a great extension to any Shopkins range. The collectability aspect of the product is enhanced even further with the clip, which enables each character to be attached to bags, clothing and keychains.

Brand & Deliver Is CIM’s Agency of the Year

Brand & Deliver has won the ‘Agency of the Year’ award at the sixth annual CIM Marketing Excellence Awards, following an outstanding twelve months for the Shoreditch-based creative marketing agency. It also took home the Partner Marketing Award for bringing together Sony’s The Amazing Spider-Man 2 and Evian (Danone Waters) in the biggest film partnership ever seen.
 
During 2013-14 B&D created some of its most innovative campaigns to date, creating an entirely new sub-brand for the Playboy empire with its Bunny Bootcamp initiative and successfully engaging 38,000 concert goers in the experiential activation of Samsung’s European sponsorship of Robbie William’s stadium tour. The agency also launched a licensing department, instantly winning licensing business from Warner Bros, Fox Consumer Products, Hasbro and HIT Entertainment.
 
This success was reflected in turnover, which increased by 163% from £4.3m to £11.3m in the twelve-month period.

Successful Kazachok for CPLG

CPLG has announced it has a successful Kazachok show in Paris in early April.
 
The launch of Trollz saw the producer flying in from LA and talking to +100 people about the property.
 
The company also launched Félix and Where's Wally, and CPLG received the award from the Licensing Federation for the most innovative product of the year.
A peek at Teletubbies saw interest, Care Bears are seeing good results with Vivid in UK and France, and Lapin Cretins celebrates 10 years in 2016.

miPR Appointed by RMS International

miPR has been appointed by Manchester-based toys and crafts wholesaler, RMS International, to promote their Grafix, Block Tech and licensed range in 2015.
 
RMS International’s award-winning brand Grafix is acknowledged for its innovative and value for money stationery, arts and craft and activity ranges and is sold at stores nationwide in the UK, Europe and The USA alongside their Block Tech building brick sets which are interchangeable with other leading brands.
 
In addition to the many Grafix and Block Tech products, RMS International also has a growing licensed range with SpongeBob SquarePants, DC, BBC Planet Earth, Minions, Jurassic World, Disney’s Frozen and Minnie Mouse, Marvel’s Avengers and Spiderman and many more products to be announced in 2015.

Sambro Wins the Award for Product Innovation & Development by Hasbro

The team at Sambro are celebrating after being recognised by Hasbro at their latest licensee event. Sambro were awarded a Certificate of Recognition for product innovation and development at the event which took place at Hasbro’s HQ last week.
 
Sambro currently create cross category ranges for the Play Doh, My Little Pony and Transformers licenses with brand new products scheduled throughout 2015.

ABG Appoints New Managing Director to Lead Expansion in Latin America

Saint Seiya Soul of Gold Sees Strong Viewer Ratings

Toei Animation’s latest series, Saint Seiya soul of gold, has been viewed by over two million people across four streaming networks available in 222 countries and territories around the world.
 
Toei’s second series to launch on the web after Sailor Moon Crystal, soul of gold’s early success underscores Toei’s increasing use of online distribution to build its brands. Offered digitally on Daisuki (Japan), iQiyi (China), Hulu (North America), and Crunchyroll (North and Latin America, Europe), soul of gold expects to enlarge its viewing figures every two weeks as each new episode is posted. Partnered with Bandai, soul of gold is also embarking on a comprehensive merchandising program to accompany the series.
  
Saint Seiya was first introduced as a manga and television series in 1986.
 

AUSTRALIA

Sherrin Football Teams with Sesame Street

In celebration of Sesame Street’s 45th anniversary of helping children around the world grow smarter, stronger and kinder, Russell Corp has teamed with the non-profit behind the series, Sesame Workshop, and licensing agent Haven Licensing for a range of official AFL Sherrin branded footballs.
 
Featuring Sesame Street fan favourites Elmo, Cookie Monster, Oscar the Grouch and Big Bird, the character footballs are all available in junior sizes as well as club-specific footballs for Hawthorn and Port Adelaide.
 
 “We are excited to be extending our program with these Sesame Street footballs,” said Rod Lawson, National Sales Manager, Russell Corp. “We are continually looking for unique and innovative ways to engage with new customers – especially younger generations. Engaging them with this Sesame Street collaboration has been fantastic, and we’re especially excited to be part of the 45th anniversary also!”
Sesame Street already has a strong relationship with the Australian Football League, with Cookie Monster, Big Bird and Elmo suiting up in 2014 with the Melbourne Football Club for a series of YouTube clips, events at games, and an exclusive merchandise program which quickly rolled out to other clubs.
