DHX Media Launches Wildbrain Kids Network

DHX Media launched Wild Brain Family International Ltd. (WildBrain), a wholly owned subsidiary of DHX.
WildBrain operates a multi-platform kids’ network connecting content owners with advertisers on platforms such as YouTube and Dailymotion.
WildBrain content includes Mattel’s Bob the Builder, Fireman Sam, Little People and Polly Pocket; Iconix’s Strawberry Shortcake; Turner’s Lazy Town; 9Story’s Daniel Tiger, Wild Kratts, and Arthur; DHX’s Caillou, Rosie and Jim, and Brum; and videos featuring Play-Doh, Minecraft, and Hachette for kids ages 2 to 10.

Boj Joins Metrostar Ahead of Visitor Attraction Launch

Pesky Productions, producer of CBeebies’ Boj, has chosen Metrostar to represent the property ahead of the launch of its forthcoming visitor attraction.

Pesky has already signed licensing deals for amusement plush (Sega), puzzles and craft kits (Paul Lamond Games), magazines (Redan, Kennedy, Immediate) and music (Demon Records). Metrostar will focus initially on retail plush, toys, apparel and book publishing.

Pesky Productions have joined forces with West Midland Safari Park (WMSP) to create a UK home for bilbies - the first ever to leave Australia! WMSP are also creating a huge Boj soft play area, shop and café, so that Boj fans can visit the unique bilby and then have fun burrowing about just like their favourite TV character. "Boj Soft Play" phase one opens in late 2016 and will stock Boj licensed products, with the live animals following in 2017.

Metrostar’s Claire Potter comments: “Boj is a great character with a great message and little ones adore him. They’re going to love the Boj attraction right in the very heart of England and we’re looking forward to creating Boj licensed products for them to enjoy too.”

Pesky’s David Hodgson adds: “Boj continues to extend his reach, not only remaining a stand-out show on CBeebies but also now going global with other blue-chip broadcasters. Boj makes friends everywhere, so it's good to see him getting equally strong ratings with boys and girls. As we've built a big group of fans looking for Boj products I'm delighted that Metrostar is on board to grow our licensing programme.”

Metrostar will introduce Boj to licensees and retailers at The Licensing & Merchandising Showcase on May 5th.

Paramount Pictures, Hasbro Partner to Create Cross-Property Film Universe

Paramount Pictures and Hasbro, Inc. unveiled its top talent writers room, which will be responsible for developing Hasbro’s cross-property interconnected onscreen universe featuring the brands G.I. Joe, Micronauts, Visionaries, M.A.S.K. (Mobile Armored Strike Kommand), and ROM. The group includes Akiva Goldsman (A Beautiful Mind), who will have responsibility for overseeing the writers room on behalf of Hasbro and Paramount as well as serving as executive producer for all of the films. Joining Goldsman will be Lindsey Beer (Wizard of Oz, Kingkiller Chronicle), Michael Chabon (The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier & Clay), Cheo Coker (Luke Cage, Ray Donovan), Joe Robert Cole (Black Panther, People vs. OJ), Nicole Perlman (Guardians of the Galaxy, Captain Marvel), Jeff Pinkner (Lost, The Dark Tower), Nicole Riegel (LYNCH), Geneva Robertson (Atlantis, Tomb Raider) and Brian K Vaughan (Under the Dome, Lost).
Allspark Pictures, Hasbro’s film label, plans to produce films based on this cross-property universe, with Brian Goldner, chairman, president, and CEO, Hasbro; and Stephen Davis, executive vice president and chief content officer, Hasbro; serving as producers, and Josh Feldman, co-head of storytelling, Hasbro, as co-executive producer. Hasbro will also deploy in the room an unprecedented team of its top artists and designers to assist Goldsman and the writers to visualize this all-new cinematic universe. 

Rainbow Launches New My First Thomas & Friends Baby Collection

Thomas & Friends has joined with Rainbow Designs for the launch of a new baby and infant range.
The famous blue engine and his friends will now star in a range of baby products and gifts that will include developmental and activity toys.
The initial collection, will launch this summer, featuring My First Thomas & Friends Tummy Time Activity Playmat, Comfort Blanket, Chime Ball, Activity Cube and a cuddly My First Thomas.

Steiner Sports Acquires Licensing Rights to Yogi Berra

Steiner Sports acquired exclusive licensing rights to Yogi Berra from the Berra family, and the rights to market the remaining pieces of the Yogi Berra memorabilia collection.
Steiner Sports has hired sports attorney and licensing expert Ed Schauder to serve as the executive vice president of licensing at the company, and to manage Yogi Berra’s licensing program.

Clangers Wins Two Further Awards

Coolabi Group’s pre-school series Clangers has taken home wins at both the 2016 Voice of The Listener and Viewer (VLV) award for excellence in broadcasting and the 2016 Pulcinella Award.
Voted for by listeners and viewers, the VLV award for excellence was awarded to the stop-motion pre-school series at a winners’ ceremony at the Geological Society in London last night.
Clangers also recently scooped the Pulcinella Award for best pre-school animation at international animation festival Cartoons on The Bay in Venice, where it was recognised for the episode I am the Eggbot.
These wins add to Clangers’ growing list of accolades including the BAFTA and Broadcast Awards for best pre-school animation 2015. This is an exciting time for the show, which is preparing to launch a set of brand new episodes on CBeebies in May.

Italian Retailer AW-Lab Launches Betty Boop Fitness Apparel

Betty Boop is set to introduce glamour into the fitness fashion category in Italy. With 100 stores in Italy and Spain, Athletes World Lab (AW-Lab) launched a collection of Betty Boop fitness apparel and accessories, including hoodies, sweatshirts, tank tops, graphic T-Shirts, bras, leggings, sport bags, and drawstring bags.

Powerpuff Continues to Inspire Girls

The Powerpuff Girls Premiered on 25 April on Cartoon Network.
A nationwide survey of 7-15 year olds, has revealed that today’s girls are tougher than ever before, with 84% of girls saying they loved sport, one in ten (10%) girls practicing martial arts and almost two thirds (59%) saying playing video games was one of their favourite activities. Launched to mark the return of the super cute and super fierce The Powerpuff Girls, premiering on Monday 25th April at 6:15pm on Cartoon Network, the study also revealed that girls also prefer football to netball – with 29% of girls saying it was a game they loved playing or watching.
A decade after the original The Powerpuff Girls series ended, girls are smashing the gender stereotype myths as modern girls picked purple over pink as their favourite colour. Blue was a most loved colour for over half of girls (53%) and in fact, almost one in ten boys (8%) said pink was one of their favourite colours.
The rise of comic book characters has captured kids’ imaginations with strong and powerful superheroes or heroines coming out as unanimously more popular across boys and girls with 58% saying they would prefer that to being a prince or a princess. More girls than boys had ambitions to be a doctor, with almost 10% saying that was their dream profession – more than a fashion designer (8%) or a model (3%).
When asked what qualities a girl should have, 28% of girls said they should be tough, almost half (46%) thought they should be strong and 60% said they should be clever. Remarkably, fewer than in ten (8%) of boys agree that girls should be tough, whereas half of boys (48%) thought girls should be pretty, and a third (31%) thought they should be cute.
On average, a quarter (23%) of boys thought that they were ‘worth’ more than girls, whereas powerfully, fewer than 5% of girls agreed with that statement – showing the girls are growing in confidence and self-worth. However, once young girls hit 15 there is a pinch point. From the age of 14 to 15 girls’ perception of themselves drops dramatically.  Triple the number agree with this statement that boys are worth more than them. At such an important time, as they enter the adult world there is a need for positive affirmation of gender equality in society.

Details of Cartoon Network Zone at IMG Worlds of Adventure in Dubai Unveiled

Turner’s Cartoon Network EMEA today proudly unveils details of its dedicated Cartoon Network Zone within IMG Worlds of Adventure; Dubai’s first mega-themed entertainment destination, following the announcement that the world’s largest indoor theme park will open its doors on Monday 15th August 2016.
The deal between Ilyas & Mustafa Galadari Group (IMG) and Cartoon Network will see the Cartoon Network shows Ben 10, Adventure Time, The Powerpuff Girls and The Amazing World of Gumball brought to life in an interactive world of thrilling rides and entertainment.
Alongside these rides, the Cartoon Network zone will have an exciting line up of branded restaurants and retail locations, including the world’s largest Ben 10 retail store.
IMG Worlds of Adventure’s 1.5 million square foot project will be the world’s largest temperature controlled indoor themed entertainment destination with a capacity to welcome more than 30,000 guests from all over the world every day.

Shoal Games Ltd. Announces Garfield Bingo License

Shoal Games Ltd. owner of the non-gambling, social bingo game Trophy Bingo, has signed a licensing agreement for Garfield, Jim Davis’ iconic cartoon cat. Shoal Games will launch a mobile game that will feature Garfield, Odie, and additional members of the Garfield cast.

Leolandia Gears up for an Exciting May

Leolandia, rated as Italy’s second most popular park, according to TripAdvisor, is gearing up for a busy month of May, and will celebrate its 45th birthday.
On May 8, Leolandia will celebrate Mother’s Day with LeoMamma2016, a day of games and surprises. On May 28 ‘Queen of Cartoons’ Cristina D’Avena is returning with 12 exclusive appointments; and sports enthusiasts cannot miss the 9th bicycle race Giro di Minitalia, scheduled on May 29th.
Leolandia will host a huge party with Masha and the Bear, Thomas the Tank Engine, Peppa Pig and her little brother George, as well as many other friends who will be at the park throughout the season.

Sanrio, Trumpette Partner for Hello Kitty Collection

Sanrio and Trumpette launched a Hello Kitty collection of tights and socks for infants. Designs feature Hello Kitty’s iconic face and red bow, strawberries, and polka dots, “ballet flat” style socks, and rattles. The collection also includes an all-over bow print and Hello Kitty’s face on solid color tights.
The collection will be available in April at and, as well as at specialty stores across U.S.

Newly Identified Illustration on Display as V&A Celebrates Beatrix Potter Anniversary

To coincide with the 150th anniversary of the birth of Beatrix Potter this year, the V&A celebrates the children’s author and illustrator with a number of special displays about her life and work. A recently identified and never published illustration from Potter’s tale of ‘Kitty-in-Boots’ will be shown for the first time at the Museum next week. This year’s displays include selections of manuscripts, illustrations and letters in The Tale of Beatrix Potter and Ernest Aris, and Beatrix Potter’s London, which will explore how Potter was influenced by the cultural life of her birthplace and reveal her close connection with the V&A and South Kensington. The tale of Kitty-in-Boots is one of Potter’s unpublished manuscripts for which she began ‘several drawings’. Until recently, however, only one finished drawing and two rough sketches for the story had been identified. Frederick Warne Curator of Children’s Literature at the V&A, Emma Laws, has now identified a new drawing from the story, after it was brought to her attention from a privately owned collection. 
The V&A holds the world's largest collection of Beatrix Potter's drawings, literary manuscripts, correspondence, photographs and related materials, and hosts a regularly changing display on particular aspects of her work. The V&A’s connection with Beatrix Potter begins from the author’s lifetime. Although Potter is often associated with the sweeping landscapes of Scotland and the Lake District depicted in her illustrations, she actually spent most of her life at her family home at 2 Bolton Gardens in South Kensington and frequently visited the museums nearby.

Atlantyca Entertainment Renews Its Licensing Agreement with QMI

Atlantyca Entertainment renewed its partnership with Italy’s QMI. Under the new agreement, Atlantyca Entertainment’s brands Geronimo Stilton and Tea Sisters will re-enter the financial world as characters on a new series of prepaid cards.
Customers can use a selection of character art designs, including comic, cartoon, video game, and film to customize their pre-paid cards issued by Poste Italiane, starting this month.

GBI Signs Multi-Property Broadcast Licensing Deals in Asia

Genius Brands International (GBI) secured multi-property licensing agreements in Asia for Thomas Edison’s Secret Lab, Stan Lee’s Mighty 7 (SLAM7), and Warren Buffett’s Secret Millionaires Club. 

Singapore’s Mediacorp TV network acquired broadcast rights to Stan Lee’s Mighty 7, and 26 x 30-minute episodes of Thomas Edison’s Secret Lab. Indonesia’s Spacetoon licensed the rights to 26 x 30-minute episodes of Warren Buffett’s Secret Millionaires Club, Thomas Edison’s Secret Lab, and Stan Lee’s Mighty 7. TVB in Hong Kong licensed the rights to Thomas Edison’s Secret Lab.

The Jim Henson Co. Signs Multiple Licensing Deals for Preschool Properties

The Jim Henson Co. signed new licensing agreements for its preschool properties Dinosaur Train, Doozers, and Sid the Science Kid
Netflix secured global Streaming Video On Demand (SVOD) rights for season one of Dinosaur Train in the U.S. and season two of the series in the UK and Korea. TVO acquired free TV rights for season four for English-speaking Canada. France Télévisions acquired rights to season four and France Télévisions Distribution acquired TVOD rights to season three and four.
Movile Internet Movel acquired SVOD rights for season one in Germany, while MTVA licensed exclusive rights to season one for free TV, including basic cable and satellite. Tring TV picked up free TV and basic cable rights in Albania and Kosovo for seasons one, two, and three. Multichoice Africa Ltd. licensed seasons one, two, and three for SVOD and AVOD across Africa.
Watchever GmbH acquired rights to Doozers for Germany and France Televisions Distribution acquired TVOD rights for France. POD Worldwide has also picked up Doozers for free TV airing in Thailand.
Netflix licensed Global SVOD rights to season one of Sid the Science Kid and Sid the Science Kid: The Movie. Discovery Education licensed global education rights for seasons one and two of the series. Movile Internet Movel licensed on demand rights to season one and interstitial segments of the series for the U.S., Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Ireland, and the U.K. Tring TV picked up free TV and basic cable rights for Sid the Science Kid: The Movie and interstitials for Albania and Kosovo.
