Hot Topic Introduces Fashion Collection Inspired by Disney’s Maleficent

MaleficentHot Topic unveiled a limited-edition collection of apparel inspired by Disney’s Maleficent. The collection will be available exclusively at Hot Topic stores and online starting in May; A pre-sale began at on April 15.
The Maleficent fashion collection is inspired by the feature film, which is the untold story of Disney’s most iconic villain from the classic Sleeping Beauty. The film, in theaters on May 30, reveals the events that hardened Maleficent’s heart and drove her to curse baby Aurora.
The Maleficent fashion collection includes seven pieces. All are black, designed in striking fashion silhouettes, and feature distinctive details, including faux leather accents, lace trim, skull hardware, and a Maleficent charm. In addition to the fashion line, Hot Topic will offer a wide range of new and classic Maleficent apparel and accessories, including tees, dresses, jewelry, and more.

Marika Signs Multi-Year License Agreement with Glance Eyewear

Marika EyewearMarika, the largest division of FAM Brands, has signed a multi-year licensing agreement with Glance Eyewear for women’s sunglasses and reading glasses, as well as related eyewear accessories. The first collection to be produced under the Marika label will debut to the market in August and begin shipping in December for the spring 2015 season. The new licensee will augment the brand’s expanding portfolio of licensees and complement the existing Marika active apparel.
The new collection will pursue Marika's emphasis of function, performance, and design aesthetics. Prices will range from $28 to $38, and the collection will consist of 18 to 24 styles in both active and lifestyle looks. Frame shapes such as aviators, wraps, and updated classic styles will be the focus, always with advanced lens technology that prevents reflective glare and protects the eyes and the skin around the eyes. 

Penguin Takes North American Publishing Rights for Octonauts

OctonautsSilvergate Media has awarded Grosset & Dunlap, an imprint of Penguin Young Readers Group, the North American publishing rights for its hit pre-school brand, Octonauts.
Grosset & Dunap will publish and distribute Octonauts TV tie-in books across the U.S. and Canada, with the first titles due for release in Autumn/Winter 2014.
Geraint Marsh, SVP Global TV Distribution & Consumer Products (Americas & France), Silvergate Media, said: “Publishing plays a vital role in a child’s engagement with Octonauts as it allows them to revisit the creatures and characters they’ve seen on TV and reinforces the educational messages that the program delivers while having great fun at the same time. We’re delighted to be partnering with Penguin and believe that Octonauts will be a valued addition to their excellent children’s catalogue.”

KISS and Bare Tree Media Release KISS Photo Bomb App

KISS Photo BombKISS and Bare Tree Media have partnered to launch the KISS Photo Bomb mobile app in a deal brokered by Live Nation Merchandise. Available as a free app for iOS, the app features both free and premium KISS virtual items. Additional categories of virtual merchandise will be released throughout the year.
KISS Photo Bomb allows fans to "KISSify" their phones and text messages with rock 'n roll elements from the band. Fans can easily add KISS effects, KISS makeup, KISS band members, KISS frames, and more. Users can instantly share their KISS moments via Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter. The app also lets users apply KISS emoticons in text messages. Fans can connect to and get up-to-date news on the band and events.

Bazooka Candy Brands, R5 Invite Fans to Choose the Next Big Flavor

Ring PopsBazooka Candy Brands has teamed up with rock band R5 for a tasty Facebook flavor face-off. R5 has selected three new Ring Pop flavors—cherry limeade, strawberry banana, and grape—and will rally fans to visit the Ring Pop Facebook page and vote for their flavor choice. The third annual Choose the Next Big Flavor Competition runs through May 2 and the winning Ring Pop flavor will arrive on store shelves this fall. The Facebook flavor face-off is part of a larger campaign that kicked off last month, inviting fans to share photos and videos of themselves sporting their edible bling with the #RockThatRock hashtag for a chance to be featured in a music video this summer. Bazooka Candy Brands and R5 will continue to collaborate throughout this year as part of a year-long partnership for Ring Pop and Ring Pop Gummies.
For three weeks, the Ring Pop brand will host the “battle royale” on its Facebook page for fans nationwide to voice their choice. R5 will reach out to their fans on social media to vote for one of the three flavors that the band members personally selected as their favorites.

WBCP Gears up for Easter with Family-Friendly Products

Batman Easter BasketWarner Bros. Consumer Products (WBCP) and DC Entertainment have teamed up with retail partners nationwide and MegaToys to provide Easter products inspired by Scooby-Doo, Superman, and Batman.
WBCP brings Batman to life this Easter season with large and medium-sized Batman Easter baskets containing sweet treats, toys, and more from MegaToys. The large sized baskets are available at Family Dollar and grocery stores nationwide, and the medium sized baskets are available at Wal-Mart.
The Mystery Machine revs up this Easter with assorted Scooby Doo Easter baskets containing candies, toys, and other products, available at Kmart and grocery stores nationwide. Also available this spring is a 21-inch Scooby-Doo Easter porch greeter wearing a bunny costume.
Large Superman Deluxe Easter baskets by MegaToys are available at Meijer, Kmart, and grocery stores nationwide. The supercharged Easter basket includes a variety of seasonal toys and candy.

FCP, Dark Horse Partner for The Art of The Book of Life

Art of Book of LifeDark Horse has partnered with Twentieth Century Fox Consumer Products (FCP) for an upcoming project based on this year’s highly anticipated film from Fox Animation Studios, The Book of Life. In September, Dark Horse will release The Art of The Book of Life, a behind-the-scenes look at the making of the film.
Packed with production art, stills, and more, the book will be available on September 3.

Walls 360 Launches Kids’ Decal Line from Caleb Gray Studio

Walls 360Walls 360 has launched a new kids’ decal line from artist Caleb Gray. Among the first designs to debut are race cars and fire engines for boys, teddy bears and tea parties for girls, and little ducky and sweet silhouettes for babies.
Made in the U.S. and printed on a premium, self-adhesive fabric material, the decals can be removed and reused hundreds of times without damaging surfaces. Walls 360 decals are available in several different sizes.

Marika Sponsors EIF's Revlon Run/Walk for Women

Marika LeggingsMarika joins the Entertainment Industry Foundation (EIF) as a double platinum sponsor of their 21st annual EIF Revlon Run/Walk for Women for the second year. This year's events will take place in New York on Saturday, May 3 and in Los Angeles on Saturday, May 10. Marika handed out water bottles at the finish line of last year's events, which attracted 35,000 participants combined.
To date, nearly 1 million people have participated in the EIF Revlon Run/Walk for Women and have distributed more than $70 million to support women’s cancer research, counseling, and outreach programs. The Run/Walk was launched in 1994 and originated in Los Angeles. A second event in New York City was added shortly after.
The New York race will start in Times Square and finish in Central Park, where there will be a health expo as well as a survivor ceremony. The Los Angeles race will take place at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum at Exposition Park. Power Rangers Megaforce to Make Irish Debut

Power RangersSaban’s Power Rangers Megaforce will make its Irish debut while visiting children and their families at Our Lady’s Children’s Hospital in Crumlin, Dublin, before embarking on a six-stop tour at selected Smyths Toys Superstores throughout Ireland. The tour will run from April 12 to 17, featuring a 10-meter pop-up marquee outside several of the toy retailer’s stores. The Irish tour is the third installment of the Power Rangers’ larger European tour, following stops throughout the UK and France last year.
Beginning at Smyths Toys Superstore in Blanchardstown Centre on April 12, the free tour will mark the first appearance in Ireland for the Power Ranger Megaforce, which will include six different stops with activities for fans of all ages. The tour will feature a Power Rangers performance to show off their iconic superhero moves, followed by exclusive meet-and-greets, as well as photo opportunities with the Rangers. Kids who visit the tour will receive a free face mask and professional photograph, and can also enjoy face painting and temporary tattooing stations. The first 100 kids who come dressed up as a Power Ranger will receive a special prize, while other guests will have the chance to win prizes throughout each show. Smyths will also offer 25 percent off the Power Rangers toy range on the days of the event.

BLE 2014’s License This! Competition Open for Entries

Brand Licensing Europe has announced its annual License This! Challenge is now open for entries at
Celebrating its fifth year, the competition offers new concepts the opportunity to break into the global licensing industry. It is open to any new property with roots in publishing, art and design, television or digital media.
Entries are reviewed by a panel of experts, shortlisting four properties. These finalists pitch to the panel in front of a live audience at BLE on 9th October. The winner receives a fully-furnished stand at next year’s event, worth £4,500, enabling the property to be brought back to market in 2015. 

Silvergate Teams with Paperchase for Classic Peter Rabbit

Peter RabbitSilvergate Media has partnered with stationery retailer Paperchase on a new range of products based on the Classic Peter Rabbit illustrations of Beatrix Potter.
This range, Paperchase’s first full range based on a licensed character, will include a broad portfolio of products from stationery, gift wrap, and partyware to homeware, tableware and a variety of gift products.  The range is due to be ready for January 2015.
Cathy Keogh, VP Consumer Products UK at Silvergate said: “Paperchase has a well established reputation as a highly innovative stationer with a keen focus on design and high quality.  Beatrix Potter’s Peter Rabbit illustrations translate beautifully onto a wide range of products and we believe that Paperchase is the perfect partner to take this gifting range to market.”
The Classic Peter Rabbit range will be distributed through all Paperchase stores and concessions, via the Paperchase website and in the company’s store in Dubai.

GP Flairs’ Three Monster Months

PlasticineGP Flairs’ modelling brand Plasticine is to get three months of activities across many of Signature Publishing’s children’s titles from April through to June. This will include the sampling of 150,000 mini Dinosaur Squidgems that has been specially produced for Dinosaur Action and Fantastic Funworld magazines.
Flair worked closely with the Signature Publishing team to create three dinosaur versions of the mini Squidgems sample packs, which will be available on the next three issues of Dinosaur Action. Further packs will also be cover mounted on Fantastic Funworld magazine which reaches a slightly younger audience.
Supporting the activity is ten whole pages of Plasticine activities across the portfolio together with competitions in girls' title, Rainbow Fun.

Stephen Gould Appointed as CPLG UK Managing Director

Copyright Promotions Licensing Group (CPLG), a DHX Media company, has appointed Stephen Gould as its new UK Managing Director.
Reporting to CPLG’s CEO Peter Byrne, Stephen will replace Vickie O’Malley who is leaving the company after 12 years. 

Stephen is currently Commercial Director at DHX Media and was previously Commercial Director at Ragdoll Worldwide, managing leading global brands including Teletubbies and In the Night Garden. Before joining Ragdoll, Stephen held several senior positions in the licensing industry, including Commercial Director at RDF Rights and Co-Managing Director of 4Kids Entertainment International and 4Sight Licensing Solutions. He has also had key roles at Kids Industries, Fox Kids Europe and HIT Entertainment.

Lawless, Animagic Bring Bug Rangers to TV

Lawless Entertainment and Animagic Media Group have reached a worldwide distribution and co-production deal with Mondo TV on behalf of Bug Rangers, a property owned by Animagic Media Group targeted to kids ages 4 to 9. 
The complete series will consist of 26 x 22-minute episodes and will debut for distribution at MipJunior in Cannes in October.
Mondo TV will handle the worldwide distribution of the series (except for North America) and the licensing and merchandising in Southern Europe and Russia, while Lawless Entertainment will handle distribution of the series in North America as well as licensing and merchandising worldwide.
