My Little PonyCJ Products, the creators of the iconic Pillow Pets foldable plush, will create an exclusive line of plush products featuring characters from the My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic animated TV series under license from Hasbro Inc.
The series, based on Hasbro's My Little Pony line of toys and animated works, is enjoyed by fans of all ages and has become a pop-culture phenomenon. Through the licensing deal, fans will enjoy the characters as foldable Pillow Pets, Dream Lites, plush backpacks, sling paks, and FabTablets universal tablet holders. My Little Pony Pillow Pets will be available in June online and at select retail stores nationwide.

One Entertainment Set to Develop Licensing Program for Copa America

One Entertainment has been appointed by WeMatch to develop the licensing program in the U.S. and Canada for the 2016 Copa America tournament.  

Copa America will celebrate its 100th birthday in the form of the first Pan-American cup from June 3 to June 26, 2016, in the U.S. It will include 16 national teams from North, South, and Central America, and the Caribbean competing for the title in 32 games. There will be 24 major metropolitan areas bidding to host the event, and the final host cities will be decided over the coming months.

Under the terms of the agreement, One Entertainment will execute a comprehensive program to leverage the tournament in all key product categories, including apparel, accessories, toys, and gifts.

DHX Media Unveils Gwen Stefani-Inspired Kuu-Kuu Harajuku Series

Moody Street Kids, Vision Animation, and executive producer Gwen Stefani have created the colorful, musical world of Kuu-Kuu Harajuku (working title), a new TV series commissioned by Network Ten with investment funding from Film Victoria and Malaysia. DHX Media will distribute the 26-episode, 22-minute animated series worldwide, which is inspired by Gwen Stefani and the Harajuku Girls.
In a separate deal, Moody Street and Vision Animation have signed Mattel as global master toy licensee.
In Kuu-Kuu Harajuku, the protagonists echo the unique style and magic of the original Harajuku Girls with animated Love, Angel, Music, and Baby forming HJ5, a band driven by their inspirational leader, G. Each gig is interrupted by a fantasy-driven wildcard before the first note is ever played. Angry aliens, NoFun politicians, invading creatures, and monster pets have foiled concert attempts, but G and her friends never give up.

Brandberry Sprinkles the World with Sweetness

Brandberry marks the launch of its new brand, Beary Sweet, by giving away 12 dozen bears. Each recipient is asked to keep the bear for three days, and then pass or mail the bear to someone they care about or a person in need. Brandberry has dubbed this "getting sprinkled," in its quest to "sprinkle the world with sweetness." Each bear is numbered so that people can follow the bear's journey after they pass it on. If a bear lands in the hands of someone truly in need, he or she may keep the bear.
Recipients are invited to share the story of who they gave their Beary Sweet bear to, or how receiving their bear impacted their day, on social media using #bearysweet.

Pantone Set to Debut Minion Yellow This Summer

Pantone, Illumination Entertainment, and Universal Partnerships & Licensing have unveiled the creation of an official new Pantone color, Minion Yellow, based on the Minions from Universal Pictures and Illumination’s Despicable Me global film franchise, including the upcoming prequel Minions, opening in theaters July 10. The development of Pantone Minion Yellow marks the first time in Pantone's history that a color has been created and named after a character.
Pharrell Williams, who helped create the music for the Despicable Me franchise, came up with the idea while Pantone worked closely with the animation team at Illumination to review the existing color range and to identify the purest representation of the Minions’ iconic yellow color.

King Features Debuts Official Betty Boop Shop at

King Features has debuted the new Official Betty Boop Shop at, the newly relaunched official website for the character. The company works with Fleischer Studios as the worldwide exclusive licensing agent for Betty Boop.
The Official Betty Boop Shop features a selection of thousands of licensed products, including apparel, accessories, housewares, kitchen products, automotive accessories, stationery, and collectibles. In addition to the Betty Boop products, the shop offers fans the opportunity to purchase items featuring Baby Boop, the infant version of Betty Boop.

The Boy Scouts of America Adds New Licensees

The Boy Scouts of America (BSA) Licensing has signed three new licensees, including Kidz Toyz Inc., OS4 USA, and Provo Craft & Novelty Inc.
BSA has partnered with Kidz Toyz on one of its newest brands, Wilderness Explorers. The line will include products such as adventure gear, a butterfly habitat, a shelter, and more. OS4 USA will produce plush, play tents, and sleeping bags for BSA. Provo Craft & Novelty Inc. will do business as Cricut and provides electronic cutting machines for polished do-it-yourself projects.

Hoho Entertainment, TotallyTween Partner for Mimi & Bibi Animated Series

Hoho Entertainment has joined forces with TotallyTween for Mimi & Bibi, an original animated show for kids ages 8 to 10. Mimi and Bibi are twin sisters who couldn’t be more different: Mimi is the quintessential good girl, and Bibi is the archetypal rebel without a cause. The show will consist of 26 two-minute episodes.
Hoho Rights will sell Mimi & Bibi globally and has already developed a range of products, which reflects the pair’s different points of view.

PF Flyers Launches Popeye/Bluto Rivalry-Inspired Opening Day Collection

In honor of baseball’s opening day, PF Flyers has teamed up with King Features Syndicate to create an Opening Day Collection that captures both the spirit of the game and the rivalry between characters Popeye and Bluto, who played their iconic baseball game in a 1937 animated short, the same year that PF Flyers debuted its quality American footwear.
PF Flyers has created a capsule collection featuring Mitchell Bat Co., Ebbets Field Flannels, and Leather Head Sports for a line of special-edition footwear, baseball hats, bats, and baseballs inspired by the rival teams Popeye’s Pirates and Bluto’s Bears. This collaboration continues a series of Popeye licensing deals that have put the icon at retail.

Wonderville Studios and Bare Tree Media have teamed up to launch Wonderville Studios into the digital marketplace. Bare Tree Media holds global digital licensing rights to Wonderville Studios, created by Jason Tharp, to develop digital content within mobile and online platforms.
Under this partnership, fans of Wonderville Studios will be able to buy Yippie Yeah Yeah stickers within Bare Tree Media’s global network of messenger apps, keyboard apps, and theme apps, collectively reaching more than 4 billion users worldwide. The partnership’s first release kicks off within messenger app Viber.

Licensing Executives Society, Silicon Valley (LES-SVC) is the local chapter of the Licensing Executives Society (LES), a professional society of more than 5,000 members in the U.S. and Canada who are involved in the transfer, sale, use, and development of intellectual property. Beanstalk Appoints Nicholas Bloom as Vice President, Brand Management in NY

Beanstalk has appointed Nicholas Bloom as vice president of brand management in its New York office. In this role, Bloom will spearhead the development and implementation of brand extension programs for several of Beanstalk’s global clients, and will work on larger agency initiatives.

The Jim Henson Company Expands Key Staff

The Jim Henson Company announces the promotion of key staff for its global distribution business and the hiring of Amy Takahara as the company’s new Director, Global Distribution, Sales.  
Casie Friedman has been promoted to Senior Director, Global Distribution, Sales, responsible for worldwide home entertainment and digital sales.  She started at the company’s Los Angeles office in October 2012 as Director, Global Distribution, Sales.
Formerly the Manager of Distribution and Marketing at FremantleMedia Kids and Family Entertainment, Amy Takahara joins The Jim Henson Company as Director, Global Distribution, Sales.  With over a decade of executive experience in the global film and television industry, Takahara brings a depth of knowledge following her work on strong current brands. 
Katie Mullins, who joined The Jim Henson Company in February 2014 as an Assistant, Global Distribution, has been promoted to Coordinator, Global Distribution, supporting Richard Goldsmith. 
The recent promotions and new addition are the result of a restructure that started with the previous promotion of Karen Lee Arbeeny to Vice President, Business Operations, Global Distribution. Based in The Jim Henson Company’s Los Angeles headquarters, her responsibilities include oversight of contract negotiations, business systems and client servicing within the global distribution group of the Company.

ProSiebenSat.1 and Warner Bros. International Television Distribution Extend Licensing Deal

ProSiebenSat.1 and Warner Bros. International Television Distribution will extend their existing licensing deal. Thus ProSiebenSat.1 will continue to hold the exclusive free TV rights to Hollywood blockbusters and successful television series produced by the U.S. studio for years to come. Movies such as Batman vs. Superman, Tarzan, and King Arthur are among the highlights of the deal that have already been announced. Furthermore, the trilogy Fantastic Beasts, which is based on the novel of the same name by J. K. Rowling, will be aired by the broadcasting group. German movie productions like Der geilste Tag with Matthias Schweighöfer and Florian David Fitz are also part of the deal.


Cartoon Network, Boomerang Broadcast Content Featuring Mattel Portfolio

Mattel and Turner Broadcasting System have partnered for Turner’s Cartoon Network and Boomerang channels to air Mattel content, including Barbie, Hot Wheels, Monster High, and Max Steel in Latin America beginning last month. The programming is available in movies, features, and webisodes. The content is broadcast in Latin America in Spanish and Portuguese in Brazil.
The new programming is as follows: Barbie, with three new CG-animated, 75-minute movies—Barbie in Princess Power, Barbie in Rock 'N Royals, and Barbie and her Sisters in The Great Puppy Adventure; Monster High, with two CG-animated movies, Monster High: Haunted and Boo York, Boo York; Hot Wheels, with two new CG-animated specials, Team Hot Wheels: Skill to Thrill and Team Hot Wheels: Build the Epic Race; and Max Steel, with three 44-minute CG-animated movies, The Wrath of Makino, The Dawn of Morphos, and Maximum Morphos.


Nelvana's Trucktown to Debut on Super RTL in Germany

Corus Entertainment's Nelvana has announced that its CGI-animated boys' preschool series Trucktown will air on Super RTL, Germany’s leading children’s broadcaster, later this year.
The series made its world premiere on Corus Entertainment’s preschool channel Treehouse in September and was the No. 1 show during its debut month. At launch, it ranked No. 2 in the Top TV episodes for kids on iTunes Canada. The series debuted in France on France 5’s ZouZou block in February.
Trucktown, which follows the playful adventures of a group of rough-and-tumble young trucks, is based on a series of books by children’s author Jon Scieszka and published by Simon & Schuster, which includes more than 50 titles and has sold more than 1 million books.

A.C. Milan and Sanrio Partner for New Collection

Sanrio, owner of Hello Kitty, and A.C. Milan, under adidas licensor master, have developed an exclusive co-branding, for a collection to launch next April at the San Siro stadium. Hello Kitty will be present at the stadium when the football teams will enter into the soccer field.
Debuting for the first time last January 2015 at the Trade Show in Hong Kong, this collaboration, dedicated to the youngest fans, both women and teenager, will feature new graphics of Hello Kitty and Milanello, the famous A.C. Milan mascotte.

Zodiak Kids Studios Announces New Drama; CBBC and ABC3 Australia on Board

At MIPTV Cannes, Zodiak Kids Studios has announced the dual territory commission of The Secret Life of Boys commissioned by CBBC in the UK and ABC3 Australia.
Zodiak Kids Studios, the production arm of Zodiak Kids, has secured a brand new interactive drama commission for its UK division.The Secret Life of Boys is a series of 25 five minute segments which will be available first on CBBC and ABC3 online, playable on mobile viewing devices and computers, and will also be created as a 5 x 30’ series for the channels.
The series was created as an original sitcom from Anthony Q Farrell (American Office, Thundermans) and has been co-developed as an interactive comedy by Zodiak Kids and Zodiak Media’s Head of Multiplatform Ben Freeman.It will be produced by UK production company The Foundation.
It has been commissioned by Cheryl Taylor Controller CBBC in collaboration with Chris Rose Commissioning Editor ABC Children’s Television. The Executive Producer is Steven Andrew, Interactive Producer Trevor Klein and Producer/ Director Beryl Richards.

Anne Geddes Skin Care Products Available in Southern Europe and China

Munich-based licensing agency Euro Lizenzen has announced that licensee Italian Cosmetics has successfully developed and launched all organic body care products for the Anne Geddes brand.
Inspired by Anne Geddes’ infant pictures, Italian Cosmetic’s fine skin care products are created especially for pregnant women and the new born babies, by using the cleanest formulas and the purest botanical ingredients nature has to offer.
The Geddes Group is represented by Euro Lizenzen, an international licensing agency specializing in marketing fine art, life-style brands and timeless properties.

Children’s Classic Noddy Returns to Television in 2016

Noddy returns to television with a new series, Noddy, Toyland Detective, to debut in 2016 on France Télévisions’ France 5, bringing an all-new look to Noddy and the residents of Toyland for 52 new 11-minute episodes.
The new CG-animated series is produced by Gaumont Animation in association with DreamWorks Animation Television and in partnership with France Télévisions. It will premiere on commissioning broadcaster France 5’s “Zouzous” in spring 2016.
Viewers will join Noddy on adventures throughout Toyland, accompanied by friends both new and familiar – including his iconic car, as well as Big Ears and Bumpy.   Through Noddy’s newly established role as Toyland Detective, he’ll show children how to investigate their world and make their own discoveries as he looks for clues to mysteries in each episode.
“We are very proud and excited to launch this brand new Noddy, a promise of engagement for our preschool audience,” said Tiphaine de Raguenel, head of Youth Programs for France Télévisions. “This new series is a specific program with original codes and goals, such as rituals, a kid-friendly signature language and core values.”

Hit Greenlights Second Series of All-New Bob the Builder

HIT Entertainment, a subsidiary of Mattel Inc, has greenlit a second season and 60’ special for its all-new CG-animated Bob the Builder series.
The second series will see 52 x 11’ exciting new episodes set for delivery in 2016 and the 60’ special set to follow in 2017. These latest commissions will continue to bring construction to life for millions of children across the globe.

Maya the Bee: Movie Buzzing at Box Office

Studio 100 International has announced box office figures for global brand, Maya the Bee, in their first venture into cinema.
Maya the Bee: Movie, released in October 2014, has rolled-out globally and been sold to over 120 countries with outstanding admission numbers totaling more than 4.2 million. Studio 100’s leading property has taken a successful leap into film as fans across the world have continued to show their enthusiasm for the pre-school brand by purchasing cinema tickets.
Since the movie release last year, Maya has reached number one in the kids’ movie sector in the likes of Germany, South Korea, Poland, Croatia, Slovenia and, most recently, France, with 1 million admission* since the release in February 2015.
The movie release will roll-out in August across the Atlantic in South American countries; Argentina, Ecuador, Bolivia, Colombia, Peru, Chile; Central America and will premiere in the US in May. With support from movie distributor, Shout Factory, Studio 100 International has compiled an in-depth marketing, advertising and social media campaign that introduces Maya to the US market.

Warner Bros. Consumer Products (WBCP) announces that after 18 years Bruno Schwobthaler Senior Vice President Marketing, Sales & Business Development EMEA at Warner Bros. Consumer Products will be leaving the company to pursue his own Business Development Projects in Licensing & Brand Management.

Morgen Studios Appoints Planeta Junior and Nottingham Forest as Agents

Germany-based Morgen Studios has appointed Planeta Junior and Nottingham Forest as Licensing, Merchandising and Promotion Agents for their animated TV-Series Super 4 as well as for Playmobil.
Nottingham Forest will be the agent in Spain and Portugal, while Planeta Junior will be in Italy.
Super4, produced by Method Animation and Morgen Studios, is an action and adventure series inspired by the world of Playmobil, in which four heroes with different personalities and origins will live great adventures.
Playmobil is the master toy for Super 4 and is planning the launch of the figures and playsets based on the series in September 2015. Meanwhile, Planeta Junior and Nottingham Forest are already working on the development of the licensing program in main categories.

The National Gallery Co. Ltd. Awards License to Scoop Designs

The National Gallery Company Ltd has announced Scoop Designs Ltd, as the latest licensee in the National Gallery programme. Scoop Designs will work with the National Gallery Company to supply unique food and beverage gifts. The range, an extension of the National Gallery Company’s popular Delicious Art sub-brand, will be launched at selected retail outlets in the fourth quarter of 2015.
The first phase of the agreement focuses on a number of composite food gifts for the year-round market. These will include high quality foods: chocolate, teas, jams and preserves combined with beautifully designed ceramics, cutlery and gifts in a variety of special containers.  For example a cheese and chutney set would also include a dome cover, board and cheese knives, while a tea-based gift would include china cups and saucers. These wonderful gifts will be illustrated with famous images from the National Gallery’s vast collection.  An expanded range will launch in 2016.

Toei Animation Introduces Saint Seiya Soul of Gold

Saint Seiya soul of gold, the newest chapter of Toei Animation’s Saint Seiya franchise, is debuting globally at MIPTV following its April 10 premiere on the Bandai Channel in Japan and Daisuki in Europe (excluding France and the French-speaking European territories).
The French group AB acquired the TV and DVD rights and the channel will simulcast the original version subtitled in French whereas the online platform Crunchyroll acquired the VOD rights of the series to broadcast it online in Europe except in France and all the French-speaking European territories. Moreover, a soul of gold dedicated channel will also be launched on Youtube for Italian fans.
“We have set out to challenge ourselves creatively with soul of gold,” said Ryuji Kochi, General Manager of Toei Animation Europe. “Our latest chapter pushes the envelope with its memorable story, stunning visuals and captivating music. H&A Launches Frozen Haircare Products

H&A has launched three new Disney Frozen haircare products in Sainsbury’s, coinciding with the release of the all-new Frozen Fever short film, which opened in cinemas on March 27th, 2015, in front of Disney’s Cinderella.
The Sainsbury’s launch sees six new haircare lines on shelf at the retailer in total, with the addition of three Disney Princess Ariel products.
With the Disney Frozen haircare products having also launched in Tesco this month, the new listings in both grocers highlights the strength of H&A’s children’s haircare offering in a competitive environment and follow the company’s other popular hair care ranges, which were launched in Tesco in early 2014.


Psycho Bunny, ITOCHU Partner in Japan

Genius Brands International (GBI) has brokered a multi-year deal between Psycho Bunny and accessories licensee ITOCHU Corp.

Under the deal, ITOCHU will develop an upscale accessories program for the brand, featuring Psycho Bunny brand imagery, including belts, bags, small leather goods, umbrellas, scarves, hats, gloves, headwear, underwear, socks, shoes, loungewear, pajamas, jewelry, watches, towels, handkerchiefs, sunglasses, golf bags, and golf accessories. Available to consumers through upscale department stores in Japan, the new accessories will continue the brand’s commitment to high quality components and construction of luxury products. The first collections debuted in the fall, and an expanded assortment will launch at retail this spring.
Psycho Bunny, working in collaboration with GBI, has attracted a roster of manufacturers to round out its core sportswear collections through licensing. The partnership with ITOCHU follows GBI’s recent announcement of three new licensees for Psycho Bunny, including Leg Resource Inc. for hoseiry, S3 for footwear, and JRM Accessories for headwear. The Apparel Partnership Group, Psycho Bunny’s partner for loungewear and men’s basics, is entering its third season.  
GBI is actively seeking partners to expand Psycho Bunny into additional product lines, including outerwear, woven shirts, bottoms, denim, bags, luggage, women’s apparel, children’s apparel, active wear, fragrance, electronics, and more. The company is also further developing the brand internationally and is in discussions with potential partners in Asia, Europe, South America, and around the world.

Burka Avenger Launching in India on Zee Network

The International-Emmy nominated and multi-award winning animated TV series Burka Avenger is launching in India on Zee Network this April. The episodes have been specially dubbed in 4 languages for India including Hindi, English, Tamil and Telagu.
Speaking about the launch in India, Deputy Business Head of ZeeQ Aparna Bhosle said: “Burka Avenger is an amazing show; both in terms of quality of animation as well as storytelling. DMG Entertainment, and Authentic Brands Group, LLC (ABG), have unveiled Mini Marilyn to the world. DMG and ABG will co-develop the character across a vast cinematic world that will serve as the engine for licensing, retail and other brand opportunities. Mini-Marilyn is envisioned as the first international brand icon of the 21st Century and a symbol of empowerment for young women around the world.

ITV Takes Thunderbirds Are Go to New Zealand

ITV Studios Global Entertainment (ITVS GE) has announced that Global Licensing (NZ) Ltd has been appointed as licensing agent for new action adventure series, Thunderbirds Are Go in New Zealand.
Global will oversee the development and expansion of the Thunderbirds Are Go licensing programme in the region where the brand is firmly established and widely popular.
As part of the new deal, Global has worked with Vivid Imaginations, the master toy partner for Thunderbirds Are Go, to appoint Planet Fun as the local distributor in New Zealand which will see Thunderbirds Are Go toys roll out across the territory from S/S 2015. The deal covers figurines and vehicles, play sets, diecast, role play and dress up. In a further agreement, TVNZ has picked up the broadcast rights to the highly anticipated new TV series and will air on TV2 from Sunday 12th April 2015.
