Spin Master Appoints CPLG as Licensing Agency for Hatchimals

CPLG was appointed by Spin Master Ltd. to represent Hatchimals across the UK, France, Germany, Benelux, Italy, Iberia, Central and Eastern Europe, and the Nordics. CPLG will build on the success of the Hatchimals brand, with plans to hatch new licensed products across markets including, apparel, home, stationery, food and health, and beauty.

Nestled inside a brightly speckled egg, a Hatchimal responds to human touch and begins to hatch and communicate through taps, pecks, lights, and sounds. The Hatchimal that is inside is only revealed when it hatches. Following the launch, Hatchimals became a global hit, and was named Innovative Toy of the Year award from the Toy Industry Association of America and the Toy of the Year award at the UK Toy Industry Awards.

Educational Insights Launches Licensing Program

Candlewick Entertainment, an imprint of Candlewick Press, acquired world rights in all languages to a series of books based on games from Educational Insights. This marks the debut of a licensing program for Educational Insights.
The Sneaky, Snacky Squirrel will be the first title and will feature a lift-the-flap board book, which will be published this summer in the U.S. and Canada by Candlewick Entertainment and in the UK, Australia, and New Zealand by Walker Entertainment. This tree-shaped board book explores counting and color concepts.

CPLG Announces European Restructure

To further support its rapid expansion, licensing agency CPLG, part of DHX Media, has announced a number of changes to its management team in Europe.
CEO Peter Byrne commented: “As our business continues to grow in Europe we have continued to build and develop our own in-house talent and these changes enable us to consolidate our European footprint and position us strongly for the next stages of growth.”
Joachim Knoedler, currently MD CPLG Germany, will take on the additional responsibility of heading up CPLG France, in the newly created role of MD Central Europe.  Jo, who has been with the company for over 14 years, has been a consistent top performer in the group.
Concetta Galani is elevated to Commercial Director, CPLG France and Clementine Goutaine is promoted to Retail & Marketing Director, CPLG France, both reporting to Knoedler.  Byrne added: “Both Concetta and Clementine have been integral to the success of CPLG France and these promotions are in recognition of their outstanding work over the years, and their wealth of experience across the French licensing market.“
Parallel to these changes, Romina Ivanisevic is promoted to Commercial Director, CPLG Germany and Sven Burscher becomes Retail and Marketing Director Germany, also both reporting to Knoedler. “Both Romina and Sven have been great catalysts in the business in their respective areas and have made outstanding contributions to the growth of our business in Germany” commented Byrne.
Elsewhere in the business, Slawek Ekiert, is promoted to Commercial Director, CPLG Nordic and CEE. Byrne said: “Slawek has done an incredible job rapidly establishing our presence in Central Eastern European markets and we look forward to him further expanding our presence across a bigger region.”  Jenny Strehle will report to Slawek.
Virginie Kleinclaus-Renard, current MD of CPLG France, has decided to leave the company, departing early May, and will be transitioning the business over to Knoedler over the coming weeks.

Rubie’s Costume Co. Introduces Smurfs: The Lost Village Costume Collection 

Rubie’s Costume Co. Inc. partnered with Sony Pictures Consumer Products and Lafig Belgium/IMPS for licensed costumes, masks, make-up, and accessories inspired by Smurfs: The Lost Village from Sony Pictures Animation and Columbia Pictures, which debuted in theaters last week.
Available in toddler, children’s, and adult sizes, the Smurfs collection introduces Smurf Storm and Smurf Blossom, as well as classic characters, including Smurf, Papa Smurf, and Smurfette. Smurfs: The Lost Village Costume collection will be available this Halloween season.

JCB Teams with Specsavers for Marketing Campaign

JCB is continuing to build its licensing program through the recent announcement of a partnership with Specsavers, to launch a range of kids frames.
Building on an agreement to produce JCB Safety Eyewear exclusively for Specsavers, six JCB Kids fashion frames launched on April 5th in all 736 of Specsavers UK Stores, as well as 51 outlets in Ireland. The bold and durable frames come in a variety of designs and feature stylish JCB branding.
To support the launch, Specsavers are rolling out a heavyweight marketing campaign to include national and local media advertising, printed promotional material and instore merchandising with bright and bold window displays and FSDU’s, as well as digital and social media activity.
“We are very excited about this new partnership with JCB and the finished product has exceeded our expectations” said Kerry Pullin, Director of Range Development at
Specsavers. “As you would expect from Specsavers and JCB, these glasses are tough and look great!”

Pea & Promoplast Signs Distribution Agreement for Smalldiers.

Pea & Promoplast has signed a distribution agreement of its new property, Smalldiers, for newsstand outlets in Italy and 6 other European countries, with DeAgostini.
Since March 18, the collection has been in the market throughout Italy. In the coming months it will be released in Spain and then a gradual release into other countries.
Smalldiers is the first IP totally created, developed and produced by Pea & Promoplast, and was presented at the recent Toy Fairs in London and Hong Kong.
Pea & Promoplast, together with its partners in different countries, will support the launch of the project, not only throughout traditional TV media, but also with a structured Social Media campaign that will involve Facebook, Instagram, Linkedin, Youtube, etc.

IMDA, Cartoon Network Launch Imagination Studios

Turner’s Cartoon Network will have a two-day Imagination Studios workshop in Singapore as part of a global initiative to inspire the next generation of storytellers and creators. Imagination Studios is a global initiative by Cartoon Network that inspires kids to get involved in publishing their own content.
Hosted in partnership with the Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA) and supported by StarHub, Imagination Studios will feature an industry workshop on April 21, and a workshop for kids on April 22. The events will be held at PIXEL Studios.
Attendees will hear from Daniel Chong, creator and executive producer of Cartoon Network’s comedy We Bare Bears, and other animation professionals from Turner and leading studios. Attendees will also have the opportunity to submit their own animation ideas to Turner with the chance for it to be fully-funded and produced by Cartoon Network in partnership with IMDA, with the potential to be screened across Asia Pacific.
The workshop on April 22 will introduce kids to the world of animation. Through hands-on and group sessions, kids will learn how to create their very own stop-animation videos. Vaibhav Kumarev, director of Vaibhav Studios in India and creator of the Cartoon Network original series Lamput will conduct the series.

One Animation Partners with Ban Kee for Philippines Toy Roll Out

One Animation and Ban Kee Trading have formed a strategic distribution and marketing partnership to bring a range of toys from the globally successful Oddbods series to the Philippines.
Oddbods, an animated kids’ TV show, currently airs in over 100 countries worldwide including on Disney in the Philippines, whilst also boasting a large army of fans online, particularly on social media. 
Ban Kee is the one of the Philippines’ leading toy distributors which looks to work with strong entertainment brands, that can be transitioned into high quality toys.
“The Oddbods concept lends itself particularly well to toys because the characters are so likeable and easy to relate to.  Kids are automatically attracted to their favourite Oddbod, whether it’s greedy Zee with his tendency to fall asleep all the time, or mischievous Pogo with his love of pranking people with practical jokes,” explains Eric Bautista, owner of Ban Kee Trading.

Striker Entertainment Appointed Worldwide Licensing Agency for We Happy Few

Compulsion Games Inc. retained Striker Entertainment to act as the worldwide licensing agency on behalf of the video game We Happy Few. The game follows some moderately terrible people trying to escape from a lifetime of cheerful denial. Set in a drug-fueled, retro-futuristic city in an alternative 1960s England, players must blend in with the city’s other inhabitants in order to survive and escape.
Currently announced for Xbox One, Windows, Mac, and Linux, We Happy Few is available on Microsoft Game Preview, Steam Early Access, and Games in Development. The final release date has not been announced.
Striker has secured several licensees for We Happy Few, including McFarlane for action figures and construction sets; Spirit Halloween for costumes, masks, and prop weapons; and Gold Label for print-on-demand soft goods. Products are expected to be available later this year.

The Roald Dahl Literary Estate Partners with Lost My Name

The Roald Dahl Literary Estate and Lost My Name have announced that they are collaborating on a brand new personalised book. This is the first time that The Roald Dahl Literary Estate has commissioned an entirely new story based on Roald Dahl’s characters, and the first time Lost My Name has worked with established characters and worlds.
The collaboration will be a joint venture illustrated by Adam Hancher and written by Lost My Name co-founder, David Cadji-Newby, with editorial support and creative input from The Roald Dahl Literary Estate. Lost My Name will be taking pre-orders in June before worldwide release on Roald Dahl Day, 13th September 2017.

WildBrain, an online kids’ network with expertise in connecting content owners to advertisers through advertising video-on-demand (AVOD) platforms, has been appointed the exclusive global manager of TUBA n Co., Ltd’s channel for its short-form CGI-animated, comedy series, Larva.

Designer Parfums, Jennifer Lopez Partner for New Fragrance Launch

Dick and Dom to Deliver Keynote at CMC

The Children’s Media Conference (CMC) has announced that children’s comedy duo Dick and Dom will deliver the Creative Keynote speech at this year’s annual conference, which takes place from 4-6 July in Sheffield. 
Taking to the stage on Wednesday 5 July, the award-winning duo will celebrate their 21st anniversary in children’s TV at CBBC, garnering a plethora of BAFTA nominations for their shows, including Dick and Dom in da Bungalow and Absolute Genius with Dick and Dom. Beloved by generations of children, this year’s inaugural double-act promises to deliver playful insight on keeping things fresh, having fun, and engaging young audiences with slime, splat and bogeys.

The National Wildlife Federation, Teacher Created Resources Debut Ranger Rick Classroom Program

The National Wildlife Federation partnered with Teacher Created Resources to deliver the first Ranger Rick reading, writing, and science program to educators, schools, and districts in the U.S. Teachers and students will be able to use the content and photography from the Ranger Rick magazine to enhance the learning experience. Ranger Rick’s Reading Adventures is now available to classrooms nationwide.
Ranger Rick’s Reading Adventures was created in accordance with national reading, writing, and science standards, and is available in three kits (levels A, B, C) that correspond to grade bands 2–3, 3–4, and 4–5, respectively.
Each kit includes 60 nonfiction readers (six copies of 10 titles); 36 fiction and nonfiction adventure cards (six copies of six titles); a 240-page Teacher Resource book with standards-based reading, writing, and science activities; and a CD with reproducible activity pages and correlations.

Teletubbies Forging ahead in Australia

DHX Brands has ramped up Australian consumer products and marketing activity on its hit flagship property Teletubbies as the brand celebrates its 20th anniversary this year.
The show is currently rating in the top 20 ABC kids’ programmes and achieved 3.9 million downloads on iView in 2016. Building on this success in the territory, DHX Brands has rolled out toys by master toy licensee Character Options, via local distributor Big Balloon, in major stores including TRU, Myer, Big W, Target, Kmart and ARL. Publishing via Hardie Grant and initial DVDs from ABC DVD launched last year, with a further four DVD titles planned this year.
In the run up to Christmas 2016, further product was available at retail including wheeled toys, games and playballs and in February this year Teletubbies rated #5 in the overall kids’ plush category. Spearhead category strategies, partner relations, and negotiations to maximize brand efficacy and build growth opportunities for licenses.  Play a key role in forecasting.  Solicit new brands, licenses and trends to secure the company’s high ranking in the business.
Provide sales updates and sell through information to the licensors on a monthly/weekly basis.  Mentor and manage coordinators, providing industry and business guidance.

Executive Seeks New Challenges
I have 8 years experience of working for a large London Publishing house licensing book content to third parties. I am looking for a role which utilises my skills in negotiation and relationship building and can develop my experience within the licensing field. Having licensed book content to a wide variety of customers from national Newspapers to international Publishers I would relish the experience to work in a new industry, licensing new content to new clients.
I realise that a move across from traditional publishing may mean a step down from the managerial role I was in before. I'm enthusiastic to work in a new industry and feel my skills are easily transferable and am happy to look outside licensing roles also.
