Genius Brands in Development for SpacePOP Season Two, Expands Global Distribution

Genius Brands International Inc. plans to expand SpacePOP this year with new content license agreements in China and the UK. Additionally, Genius Brands greenlit the development of season two of SpacePOP for global distribution, which is expected to air this fall.
 
Genius Brands licensed the content distribution, licensing, and merchandising rights for SpacePOP to WeKids Asia Ltd. to launch a brand program across China this summer. The company licensed the rights to the SpacePOP original music videos to U Music TV for distribution across the UK via its app, and through its content block Sky TV, FreeSat, and FreeView. The deals with WeKids and U Music TV follow a recent agreement with Luk Internacional to handle the content distribution and licensing and merchandising campaign for SpacePOP in Southern Europe (Spain, Portugal, and Italy). Luk Internacional will create a Spanish-language SpacePOP YouTube channel for the market in Spain, utilizing Genius Brands’ marketing strategy in the U.S. of partnering with influencers and regional promotional partners.
 
In addition to YouTube, SpacePOP is currently available in the U.S. on digital platforms including Toon Goggles, PopJam, BatteryPOP, and the Kid Genius Cartoon Channel on Comcast, as well as on OTT platforms, including Amazon, Apple, Roku, and Google. The SpacePOP app is available on Amazon Fire, Roku, and Apple TV.

CPLG Italy to Represent Doraemon

VIZ Media Europe has appointed CPLG to represent the Japanese iconic brand and licensing phenomenon Doraemon in Italy.
 
The popular Japanese anime TV series and 360-degree licensing phenomenon Doraemon is now on track to extend its success story further into Europe. Global licensing company CPLG, on behalf of VIZ Media Europe, will develop a broad licensing program for the comedy-adventure TV show in Italy.
 
Since its launch in 1969, Doraemon has been one of Japan’s most popular multimedia franchises. With new content every year, it dominates the television, cinema, publishing, merchandise and promotions market in Asia, with annual retail sales in excess of €600 million. 

Nestlé Pure Life, Crayola Partner to Launch Share-a-Smile National Campaign

Nestlé Pure Life and Crayola partnered to launch the Share-a-Smile national promotion to celebrate the creativity and individuality of children.

The campaign introduces a new collection of Nestlé Pure Life kid-friendly, 8-ounce water bottles with labels designed by children. The contest asks kids draw what makes them smile for a chance to have the designs featured on some of the brand's 8-ounce bottle labels, as well as a $25,000 scholarship and other prizes.

The two grand prize winning designs and six of the runners-up’s designs from last year are included in the new Share-a-Smile Kid-Designed Edition 24-pack that hit shelves in February. The schools that the winners attend will also receive a donation of Crayola products. The bottles can be found year-round in most grocery stores and other retail locations, and also feature special promotional packaging for the Halloween and winter holiday seasons.

Nestlé Pure Life will use Crayola's logos in promotional materials, generate cross-merchandising in-store opportunities, and feature Crayola products at all the tour stops. Additionally, the partnership includes a sweepstakes for a chance to win a trip for four to the Crayola Experience.

Rainbow Flies High with Emirates

Italian studio Rainbow has announced that two of its most popular shows – Regal Academy and World of Winx - will now be screened on Emirates award winning inflight entertainment system, ice.
 
Regal Academy is the hit animation that puts a tantalizing twist into traditional fairy tales and follows the adventures of young Rose Cinderella as she starts her studies at the fabled school. World of Winx is an original show based on the evergreen classic Winx Club, which sees the fairy friends go undercover to foil an evil villain. 
 
Both shows will be available to passengers on Emirates flights in a variety of different languages, both Regal Academy and World of Winx will provide hours of fun and entertainment for Emirates young customers across the world.

Rovio Entertainment Adds New Angry Birds Licensees 

Rovio Entertainment added a roster of new licensing partners to its Angry Birds franchise. The new consumer products will feature the classic Angry Birds characters, as well as characters from The Angry Birds Movie, including the Blues and The Hatchlings. The products are expected to be available at retail this fall.
 
Rovio Entertainment’s new licensees include ES Originals for children’s footwear; Fabric Traditions for crafting fabric; Ziegenfelder for raspberry, cherry, lime, and banana ice pops; Checks In The Mail for personalized checks and checkbooks; Hue Vee for decorative light bulbs and light bulb decals; Toy Factory for novelty hats, plush, pillows, balls, and capes; Gamer Shoes for interchangeable zip-on shoe covers; and The Bentex Group for children’s swimwear.     

The Entertainer Grows Its Presence in Pakistan

The Entertainer, the fastest-growing high street toy retailer in the UK, today confirms that it has added another store to its growing international portfolio with existing franchise partner, the SEFAM Group in Lahore Pakistan. The 5000 square feet store opened its doors Saturday 25th March in Lahore’s largest mall in Pakistan, which is home to over 200 stores and a five-star hotel.
 
 The Entertainer’s established franchise partner SEFAM, has already successfully launched four other stores in Lahore and one in Islamabad.

Miraculous Ladybug to Be Featured in Golden Days Campaign at El Corte Inglés

Planeta Junior and Spanish department store El Corte Inglés partnered to feature Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug and Cat Noir in El Corte Inglés’ Golden Days campaign. Customers who spend over €15 on Miraculous Ladybug merchandise will receive a free copy of the series’ official magazine.
 
Miraculous Ladybug will also have a visual presence with brand areas at all El Corte Ingles department stores, featuring all product categories and opportunities for fans to take pictures with their favorite characters.
 
The promotion will also cover all 42 Hipercor stores, where Miraculous Ladybug will have a header in every toy section. At stores in Madrid, three Transformation Magic events will let kids have their faces painted to look like Ladybug or Cat Noir.
 
Miraculous Ladybug will also be featured in El Corte Inglés digital communications and social networks, as well as on their official website. The El Corte Inglés Facebook page will host a competition for kids to win exclusive Stormy Weather dolls prior to the release from master toy license Bandai.

Zodiak Kids Takes Sammy & Co to MIPTV

Zodiak Kids announces today it has reached an agreement with STUDIOCANAL to take on the distribution rights for aquatic action and adventure series Sammy & Co and will be launching the show at MIPTV and taking brand new series two to the market.
 
Following the success of feature films A Turtle’s Tale: Sammy’s Adventures, and Sammy’s Great Escape, both produced by STUDIOCANAL’s partner nWave animation studio, this 3D CGI animation for pre-schoolers explores an underwater world filled with action and humor. Zodiak Kids has acquired both Series and newly commissioned Series for M6.
 
Brave Ricky and thoughtful Ella are soulmates, who were born on the same day and even on the same beach; just like Ella’s grandfather, Sammy, and the love of his life, Shelly. Chaucer Foods UK Ltd., Filippo Berio to Launch Range of Baked Snacks 

Chaucer Foods UK Ltd. partnered with Filippo Berio to develop a range of baked snacks. The new product will complement Filippo Berio’s selection of high-quality olive oils, olives, vinegars, and pesto. Beanstalk brokered the partnership.
 
The range is due to launch across the UK later this year and will debut with a line of Crostini, made with Filippo Berio extra virgin olive oil. The initial product line will comprise five products that are baked not fried, contain 30 percent less fat than fried crisps, and are free from artificial additives. Flavors include Fennel & Garlic, Formaggio, Lightly Sea Salted, Rosemary & Sea Salt, and Sundried Tomato.
 
This year, Filippo Berio also celebrates its 150th anniversary. In addition to its position in the UK and the U.S. markets, the brand also has market share in Switzerland, Canada, and Japan, with a growing presence in Russia, China, and Brazil.

Acamar Films Sews Bing Nightware Deal with Tesco

Acamar Films has teamed up with apparel licensee Aykroyd’s to bring Bing pyjamas to Tesco shoppers. The pyjamas will be available online and select stores across the country from Monday, 3rd April and will include products in a number of colours.
 
Bethan Garton, Head of Licensing at Acamar Films says: “We are thrilled to be launching nightwear with Tesco through our partner Aykroyds. Little bingsters will be delighted that they can go to bed in their very own Bing pyjamas. NFL Appoints IMG as Global Licensing Representative in Europe

The National Football League (NFL) appointed IMG as its exclusive licensing representative across select international markets in Europe and Asia. The new multi-year deal will see the NFL further expand its brand presence internationally through new licensed consumer product initiatives for its international fans.
 
In recent years, the brand has expanded its market with regular season games outside the U.S. and the annual Super Bowl is watched in more than 180 countries and in nearly 25 languages.
 
IMG will target a range of categories, including men’s, women’s, and children’s fan apparel, accessories, home décor, fast fashion collaborations, and food and beverage.
 
IMG’s pre-existing American football licensing work includes the Football Greats Alliance (FGA), which launched last year with the Pro Football Retired Players Association, with support from the NFL to manage the collective marketing and licensing rights of more than 22,000 retired NFL players.

Anna Metcalfe Joins Penguin Ventures as Hardlines Category Manager

Anna Metcalfe has joined Penguin Ventures (part of Penguin Random House) as Hardlines Category Manager with a focus on licensing opportunities for Toys and Games, food and beverage and gifting.  Anna will be working across all brands within the Ventures portfolio including Spot, The Flower Fairies, and Ladybird.
 
Anna was previously Licensing Manager at Coolabi, where she spent five and half years and worked across a variety of categories on brands including Clangers, Beast Quest, Poppy Cat and Purple Ronnie.

Unilever UK Partners with Snaffling Pig Co.

This month, Colman’s is set to launch into the snacking category for the very first time as it partners with the award-winning* Snaffling Pig Co to launch Ham and Colman’s Mustard flavoured pork crackling.
 
Available from March, the partnership is a first of its kind for both brands and will see the Snaffling Pig Co’s double hand cooked pork crackling paired with the world famous flavour of Colman’s English Mustard.

LAIKA Appoints Striker Entertainment to Launch Worldwide Licensing Program

Animation studio LAIKA appointed Striker Entertainment LLC to serve as its worldwide licensing agent. Striker Entertainment will work with LAIKA to develop a global licensing program with a roster of licensees.
 
Founded in Portland, Oregon in 2005, LAIKA’s mission is to blend art, craft, science, and technology to tell new stories. To date, the studio has had four Oscar-nominated features including Kubo and the Two Strings (2016), The Boxtrolls (2014), ParaNorman (2012), and Coraline (2009). 

Dr Seuss’s the Grinch Celebrates Sixty Years of Stealing Christmas

The Grinch is sixty this Christmas! Yes, the classic Dr Seuss character whose grumpiness towards the festive season is transformed by the friendship and love of Whoville, first appeared in the book How The Grinch Who Stole Christmas! in late 1957. Since then he has gone on to become one of the most recognisable and loved classic literary characters of all time.
 
He has inspired films, annual best-selling Christmas DVDs and a successful long lasting licensing programme with powerful seasonal appeal, which in the UK is managed by independent licensing agency Rocket Licensing. Nelvana Brings Bravest Warriors to MIPTV

Nelvana announced the next phase of production for Season 4 of Bravest Warriors at MIPTV (Marché International des Programmes de Télévision, translates to International Market of Television Programs) in France. 

The new season is being produced in association with Frederator Studios for multiple platforms, including linear with complementary digital content. Produced by Nelvana Limited in Canada, the fourth season will premiere on Teletoon next fall. Additionally, the entire online collection of Bravest Warriors episodes produced by Frederator Studios are available for license outside of the U.S.

Bravest Warriors tells the story of four teenage heroes-for-hire in the year 3085, as they warp through the universe to save adorable aliens and their worlds using the power of their emotions. Launched on YouTube in November 2012, the series grew an online fan base with 150 million views, 1.5 million likes, and more than 1 billion minutes watched.

Brandgenuity to Drive Global Licensing Program for BMW

Brandgenuity will expand and manage the global licensing program for the BMW Group. The BMW Group currently has a worldwide consumer products program that offers products to consumers across categories including apparel, collectibles, video games, watches, and fashion accessories. Puma is the flagship global apparel partner, and retail licensee Ports manages the BMW Group mono-branded stores in China.
 
Brandgenuity will add offices in Munich and Hong Kong to accelerate and grow the program worldwide. The agency will also manage and extend the existing program in toys, die-cast, and collectibles for the BMW and Mini brands. Brandgenuity will begin managing the program this month.
 
Brandgenuity plans to expand licensing in Europe, North America, Korea, Japan, and the Middle East. Key categories for growth include lifestyle apparel and accessories, additional mono-branded experience stores, and co-branded products. The agency will look for partners to create inspired designs

ProSiebenSat.1 Secures “Fack Ju Goehte” Sequel

ProSiebenSat.1 Media SE and Constantin Film are renewing their existing licensing deal and thus continuing their long-standing, successful collaboration. The exploitation rights cover all national and international in-house and co-productions of Constantin Film that will start shooting in 2017 and 2018. Numerous top films from the German production company will therefore continue to be broadcast on ProSiebenSat.1 stations in the years to come.
 
The upcoming highlights include the third and final part of the "Fack Ju Goehte" series: After the first two films, which delighted a total of around 15.1 million moviegoers and count among the most successful German films of all time, director and screenwriter Bora Dagtekin and his team will conclude the trilogy this year. The first part of the cult series already had its free TV premiere on ProSieben in October 2016, achieving a record market share of around 32 % among 14- to 49-year-old viewers.

H&A Showcases Its Disney Princess

H&A, the UK’s leading supplier of children’s licensed bathtime products, has introduced a new classic Belle range to its popular Disney Princess collection, available now.  The launch of these classic Belle products coincides with the release of Disney’s Beauty and the Beast live-action film which is out now in UK cinemas.
 
They form part of H&A’s already successful Disney Princess range available in Asda, Boots, Sainsbury’s, Tesco and Wilkinson’s.  As well as these everyday bathing products, the company plans to further extend its Beauty and the Beast range into gifts and fragrance products including an Enchanted Rose EDT and Belle 3D Bubble Bath, from September.

The Royal Mint Adds to Popular Beatrix Potter Collection

The Royal Mint has today announced that four new designs will be added to the Beatrix Potter collection for 2017. The 50p coins, finished in full colour, will be released over the course of 2017 to supplement the 2016 collection that celebrated the much-loved author’s 150th anniversary.
 
The 2016 collection gave pride of place on British coinage to Peter Rabbit, Jemima Puddleduck, Squirrel Nutkin and Mrs Tiggywinkle. The range was enormously popular and the coloured commemorative coins sold out within days from The Royal Mint website.
 
The 2017 collection, developed in collaboration with Penguin Random House (publisher of Beatrix Potter’s Tales) will once again kick off with a famously cheeky character from Potter’s books – and arguably one of the most recognisable children’s literary creations ever – Peter Rabbit himself. This will be followed by Benjamin Bunny, Tom Kitten and Jeremy Fisher, all re-imagined in full colour to fit onto a beautifully-finished commemorative coin.

Bologna Licensing Awards Winners Announced

Peppa Pig, Barbie, the Smurfs and the Rollinz are some of the stars of the “Bologna Licensing Award 2017”, the prize for the best projects to develop licensed products during the period 2015-2016 in Italy. These awards will be assigned for the first time during the Bologna Licensing Trade Fair (BLTF), the fair for the sector of licensing and the development of products based on established brands and intellectual property, already in its tenth edition and organized by BolognaFiere and due to take place now at the Bologna Exhibition Centre at the same time as the Children’s Book Fair.
 
Peppa Pig won the preschool category, Rollinz won the kids category, Barbie won the teens category and The Smurfs won the adult category.
 
The Special Prize went to Despicable Me – Franchise Minions, managed in Italy between 2015-2016 by CPLG Italy, for “the total transversal nature of the target, from the very youngest to the oldest and for particularly coherent choices of all the licensee partners, also from an international point of view, which developed products rich in innovation and technology”.

Tomi Gerhold Appointed as Director of Licensing at Notre Dame

The University of Notre Dame has announced the appointment of Tomi Gerhold as director of licensing, effective April 1. In her new role, Gerhold will oversee the University’s extensive trademark licensing program, which is widely regarded as one of the most successful consumer products licensing programs in the United States.
 
Gerhold joined Notre Dame’s Licensing Department in May 2000 and served in several capacities including licensing specialist, associate director and interim director. In her new role, Gerhold is responsible for enhancing the University’s commercial brand, increasing retail exposure for University merchandise, ensuring the protection of Notre Dame trademarks and increasing revenues derived from the program to support the University's academic enterprise. She works in close coordination with key retail partners including the Notre Dame Bookstore, Follett Higher Education Group, Fanatics and the University’s trademark licensing agency, Fermata Partners.

Crayola Is Seeking an Experienced Manager, Outbound Licensing. Located at Crayola Corporate HQ, Easton, PA

The ideal candidate will possess experience within either Toy AND/OR Publishing licensing experience.
 
GENERAL SUMMARY: Creates strategic direction for active licensee base and negotiates new partnerships within assigned categories to achieve growth objectives.   Directs tactical execution of licensed product lines from concept/line plan through commercialization.  

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manage existing licensees in assigned categories: 
    • Evaluate licensee’s quarterly marketing, retail and financial forecasts to ensure licensees on are track to meet established contractual obligations, royalty payments and forecast goals.
    • Organize and run licensee orientations, business reviews, semiannual/quarterly line reviews, and brain storm sessions.
    • Address specific licensee performance issues
    • Negotiate renewals on a timely basis
    • Provides input for annual departmental budget and plan
  • Ensure licensees develop seasonal lines in time for internal seasonal review and develop documents and presentations to communicate licensee’s initiatives to internal Crayola departments
    • Set trend direction and make recommendations for new product entry
    • Direct category research and product concept testing as needed with the consumer insights team
    • Work with creative and product development on design and creative direction for licensed product and packaging
    • Responsible for managing licensee press releases, cross marketing and promotions
    • Ensure adherence to internal approval process (i.e. safety, quality, financial, legal, content, creative, consumer activation, consumer affairs etc.) and assist in resolving issues.
  • Negotiate new licensed strategic partnerships for assigned segments in conjunction with established category strategies
    • Research, secure and develop new licensees building upon the success of existing segments in order to achieve predictable, profitable and sustainable growth
    • Negotiate deal terms including: grant of rights, royalty rates, guarantees, projections and business plans
REQUIREMENTS:
  • 7 years’ experience in licensing or consumer marketing work for a CPG company.
  • Bachelors’ degree preferred

I have 8 years experience of working for a large London Publishing house licensing book content to third parties. I am looking for a role which utilises my skills in negotiation and relationship building and can develop my experience within the licensing field. Having licensed book content to a wide variety of customers from national Newspapers to international Publishers I would relish the experience to work in a new industry, licensing new content to new clients.
 
I realise that a move across from traditional publishing may mean a step down from the managerial role I was in before. I'm enthusiastic to work in a new industry and feel my skills are easily transferable and am happy to look outside licensing roles also.
