CBS Consumer Products Launches Merchandising Programs for Three Series 

CBS Consumer Products will introduce merchandising programs for the CBS produced series The Millers and Under the Dome and the Showtime series Ray Donovan. The products will include shirts, hoodies, and trading cards.

Philcos will feature the show and its characters in a line of apparel and drinkware in Canada for Under the Dome. Sellers Publishing will provide U.S. fans with a calendar for the series. In addition, Rittenhouse will introduce Under the Dome trading cards in the U.S., Canada, and the UK.
Trevco will introduce T-shirts for The Millers and Ray Donovan. Mad Engine will produce a new line of T-shirts and hoodies for Ray Donovan, while Sellers Publishing will make calendars for the series. 

IDW Partners with eOne for New TV Series

24 UndergroundIDW Entertainment, the new division of IDW Publishing (IDW), has partnered with Entertainment One Television (eOne) to co-develop, co-fund, and co-produce TV series based on IDW’s library of more than 300 original properties.
eOne and IDW will fully fund development of each project with the intent of securing direct-to-series commitments for network and cable TV. IDW Publishing CEO Ted Adams and IDW Entertainment president David Ozer will serve as executive producers on the projects, as will eOne CEO John Morayniss and Benedict Carver, eOne’s senior vice president of filmed entertainment, who will oversee the deal on behalf of eOne.

Circle of Confusion will drive the creative development and production of all projects, with the company’s Rick Jacobs and David Alpert serving as executive producers. Circle of Confusion formed a partnership with IDW Entertainment in October to assist in the development and executive produce the projects of the newly launched entertainment division of IDW Publishing. Circle of Confusion is the executive producer of AMC series The Walking Dead, for which eOne handles international distribution.

IDW Entertainment and eOne will jointly represent the U.S. network sales, and eOne will be responsible for the international distribution of programming.

In additional news, IDW and Twentieth Century Fox Consumer Products (FCP) have partnered to launch a new comic book series based on the return of 24: Live Another Day. The book series picks up where the final season left off and will offer an expansive look into the new series, which premieres on May 5 on Fox. The comic books will debut this month.

Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood Product Line Expands, Enters New Retailers

Daniel Tiger's NeighborhoodThe Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood product line will include more products and enter major retail chains after its successful holiday season at Toys “R” Us stores nationwide and online at last year. Jakks Pacific will expand the brand’s range of toys to categories such as books and costumes to major retailers.
Kmart and Target will introduce a selection of licensed merchandise and Amazon will sell a range of goods. Barnes & Noble will launch a full line of books from Simon & Schuster Children’s Publishing under Simon Spotlight. Five book titles in different formats released in January. Additional books will be released this summer and fall. The books are based on episodes from the show.
Jakks Pacific will introduce costumes under the Disguise brand. University Games will offer puzzles and games, such as the Colorform Deluxe Playset. In addition, Daniel Tiger's Neighborhood products will be introduced to Canadian retailers for the first time.
More categories and licensees will be announced soon. Daniel Tiger's Neighborhood airs daily on PBS Kids and has been a top-10 rated show since its launch in 2012.

Mars Retail Group Signs Licensee Mad Engine

Mars Retail Group has signed Mad Engine Inc. as a new licensee to produce a range of apparel for the M&M’s and Skittles brands. The items will be made for men, women, and teens and include long and short sleeved shirts, fashion knit tops, outerwear, fleece, and hoodies. Retailers are placing orders this spring for distribution across the U.S.

Greenlight Collectibles Partners with Airstream

Greenlight CollectiblesGreenlight Collectibles has signed a new licensing agreement with Airstream, maker of the iconic “silver bullet” travel trailer, and will produce 1:64- and 1:43-scale vintage and modern American trailers. Greenlight will create replicas of the classic silver Bambi trailer as well as other iconic models that Airstream has made a household name around the world. Bambi trailers are a staple of classic American road trips and are recognized across generations.

Airstream travel trailers, which have been inspiring adventure for 83 years, will be a flagship item in Greenlight’s new Hitch & Tow series, due to be released in August. Customers may find these items in specialty, novelty, and mass retail stores nationwide and around the world.

The Wildflower Group Expands, Renews Girl Scouts Licenses

The Wildflower Group has expanded the Girls Scouts of the USA licensing program to Menchie’s, Crumbs Bake Shop, and Nestle. This month, Menchie’s self-serve frozen yogurt shops will feature a new Girl Scouts flavor, Coconut Cookie Craze, as well as crumbled Thin Mints and Samoas toppings.
Crumb’s Bake Shops will offer cookie varieties including Thin Mints, Caramel & Coconut, Chocolate Peanut Butter Crème, and Peanut Butter Cookie, in addition to Lemon Shortbread cupcakes which were added in February. Coffee-Mate by Nestle’s current assortment of Girl Scout Cookie flavors that began last June will expand to add the Caramel & Coconut flavor in a 15-ounce bottle.
In addition, there have been program renewals for Aspire’s Lip Smacker brand lip balms and Charisma’s Girl Scout dolls. Aspire offers lip balms in five different Girl Scout cookie flavors and the Charisma collection features Daisy, Brownie, and Junior dolls.

Paradies Signs Exclusive Agreement with Forbes to Open Forbes Newsstands in Airports

Atlanta-based Paradies has signed an exclusive license agreement to operate the first Forbes newsstands in airports in North America in a deal brokered by LMCA. The first of four stores are now open at Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport’s (DTW) McNamara Terminal. Additional stores in Washington Reagan (DCA) and Washington Dulles (IAD) will open this month.
The news- and technology-focused stores will provide an engaging experience for travelers seeking the latest news in business, investing, technology, entrepreneurship, leadership, philanthropy, and affluent lifestyles. In-store TVs will air programs from the Forbes video network. Interactive technology stations will allow customers the ability to peruse for breaking stories and market updates, and interactive promotions throughout the year will highlight the most anticipated Forbes magazine issues, such as the World’s Billionaires, Forbes 400, Investment Guides, Celebrity 100, and Best Colleges.
Each Forbes newsstand will offer an extensive selection of local, national, and international newspapers, magazines, and best-selling books, as well as a wide variety of traveler needs including electronics, health and beauty accessories, luggage, local and regional apparel, snacks and beverages, convenience items, and more.

Perry Ellis, Fantasia Accessories Partner for New Rafaella Line

Perry Ellis International Inc. has partnered with Fantasia Accessories, granting rights for its Rafaella brand handbags, belts, small leather goods, hats, scarves, and other cold weather accessories. The products will launch at retail this holiday season at Lord & Taylor, Bon-Ton, Belk,, and other department and specialty stores throughout the U.S. and Canada. 


ITV Studios Appoints Anna Viola as Senior Licensing Manager, Hardlines

Anna ViolaITV Studios Global Entertainment (ITVS GE)has appointed Anna Viola as senior licensing manager, hardlines. She will manage and develop the hardlines category, including housewares, toiletries, gifts, and novelties for ITVS GE’s portfolio in the UK market. These include properties such as Playmobil, Digimon, Cut the Rope, and Classic Thunderbirds. Viola previously worked as a senior advertising sales manager at Global Radio for 16 years.

A Big ‘Surprise, Surprise’ from Tiny Tatty Teddy 

Tatty TeddyThe UK Mother’s Day Special of ITV’s Surprise Surprise last Sunday recognized the founder of baby charity, Pop 'n Grow, for her inspirational achievement helping families with premature and sick babies in special care baby units across the country. 
Pop 'n Grow is supply-free, specially-modified clothing for babies in intensive care. ITV’s Surprise Surprise wanted to celebrate this inspirational charity and approached Carte Blanche to lend its support. As both businesses develop tiny, precious, and baby-safe products, Carte Blanche saw the natural synergy between its Tiny Tatty Teddy brand and the Pop 'n Grow charity, as brand manager, Catherine Lawrence explains:
“Our cute and classic Tiny Tatty Teddy range features super-soft baby-safe plush, which can be given to even the smallest of babies and so we couldn’t think of a better product to donate to Pop 'n Grow. We were really pleased to see Paula’s fantastic reaction to the Tiny Tatty Teddy Pop 'n Grows and are thrilled to be supporting such a brilliant charity in this way.”
Carte Blanche produced 1,000 Tiny Tatty Teddies wearing Pop 'n Grows which can be used by the charity to send directly to the babies in hospitals or to sell to raise money for the charity.
Paula Smith, founder of Pop 'n Grow, said, “I was absolutely blown away to be called on stage and really touched to see Tiny Tatty Teddy wearing the most adorable Pop 'n Grow outfit and can’t wait to start using these to help the charity."

The People’s Friend Picks Up UK Sponsorship Award

The People's FriendThe People’s Friend has picked up the First Time Sponsor Award at the UK Sponsorship Awards 2014. The UK Sponsorship Awards took place on March 26. DC Thomson marketing manager Cathy Frossard collected the award along with sponsorship agency SPP, who planned and negotiated The People’s Friend sponsorship of ITV3 Afternoons.
Cathy commented, “We are thrilled that The People’s Friend has picked up the First Time Sponsor Award. It’s great to receive industry recognition for the success of the title’s sponsorship deal—it shows how effective a combination of good media buying and creative can be.”
In the last year, magazine sales for The People’s Friend have received the support of a cross-platform marketing campaign. The campaign included a one-year sponsorship deal with Storytelling on ITV3 Afternoons which featured idents created by Sassy Films, a subscriptions marketing campaign and enhanced in-store point-of-sale marketing promotions with leading magazine retailers and supermarkets. As a result, The People’s Friend delivered year-on-year circulation sales growth last year, with average weekly sales of 240,051, outperforming the traditional weekly sector.
The People’s Friend editor Angela Gilchrist added, “It’s fantastic to see our colleagues marketing being recognized for their hard work and dedication to the magazine. The success of The People’s Friend is very much down to teamwork and we are delighted to see them receiving this well-deserved award.”

Entertainment One Partners with Rainbow Designs 

Peppa PigEntertainment One Licensing (eOne) recently announced a partnership with Rainbow Designs that will mark Peppa Pig’s entrance into the nursery sector.
Under the terms of the three-year agreement, Rainbow Designs will produce a wide range of nursery Peppa Pig products for infants, including rattles, teethers, comfort blankets, puppets, mobiles, push and pull toys, baby gyms, play mats, stacking rings, detachable buggy toys, skittles, bookends, coat hooks, height charts, developmental toys, and gift sets.
A small collection will debut at retail next spring and summer, with additional products rolling out through 2016 as the brand extension develops. The range will be designed in soft, neutral tones to appeal to the younger demographic and will be targeted through a channel specific strategy to deliver the Peppa Pig nursery opportunity across a wide and varied retail platform.  
“The partnership with Rainbow Designs represents a significant development for the Peppa UK licensing program as we look to extend the brand into the baby arena and explore new retail channels,” says Hannah Mungo, head of UK licensing at Entertainment One. “Our approach to this sector will be very considered in line with our strategy for steady growth in close collaboration with a small number of high caliber partners who share our vision of exploring Peppa’s appeal to babies and toddlers.”

Dumb Ways to Die on UK Plush

Dumb Ways to DieEvolution Europe has reached a new distribution deal which will see the Dumb Ways to Die characters immortalized in plush by Commonwealth Toys & Novelty. The items will be distributed by Underground Toys in the UK starting this month.
New York-based Commonwealth Toys & Novelty are the U.S. and Canadian licensee for Dumb Ways to Die plush and novelty figures. Through a deal brokered by Evolution Europe, Underground Toys will sell, market, and distribute its products alongside Underground’s own assortment of licensed merchandise for the brand, including travel pass holders, air fresheners, book marks, door hangers, lanyards, metal signs, and wind-up mini figures.
Dumb Ways to Die, the public service announcement for Metro Trains Melbourne that became a global media phenomenon, premiered as a public safety announcement for train safety on YouTube in November 2012. Since then, the PSA has generated millions of media impressions across social media networks worldwide. To date, it has garnered more than 76 million views on YouTube alone, with the new Valentine's version delivering more than 10 million views on You Tube in two weeks.
The Dumb Ways to Die app, which has more than 2.2 million daily active users, is available on Android, iOS, and Amazon platforms, has more than 45 million global downloads, and is currently the No. 1 overall action game in more than 19 countries.

Silvergate Media Partners with Marine Conservation Society

OctonautsSilvergate Media has announced that Octonauts will partner with the Marine Conservation Society (MCS), the leading charity for the protection of UK seas, shores and wildlife. The partnership will see Octonauts featured in the MCS supporter magazine, on membership pack collateral, and across the Society’s digital platforms. In addition, Octonauts will collaborate with MCS at some of their key events this year, such as the M&S Big Beach Clean Up and the Beachwatch Big Weekend.

FranceTV Distribution Signs Super 4 Deal

FranceTV distribution has signed a brand licensing agreement covering France, Luxembourg, and French-speaking Belgium for Super 4, the first series based on the world of Playmobil, with co-producers Morgen Studios and Method Animation.
“This is the first time we have given permission for an animated series based on the world of Playmobil to be made,” emphasized Bruno Bérard, CEO of Playmobil France. “The combined creative talents of Morgen Studios and Method Animation have ensured that Super 4, which will shortly be broadcast by France Télévisions, will match up to the wildest imaginings of young Playmobil fans.”
“We’re very proud of Super 4. The series really captures the Playmobil spirit of imagination, creativity and fun. Its four heroes take children on an adventure-packed journey through different worlds, with plenty of laughs along the way,” adds Aton Soumache, president of method animation.
FranceTV distribution has also purchased licensing rights to Playmobil for France and the Benelux countries, with a view to develope a classic product range for adults. “FranceTV distribution is proud to add the Playmobil and Super 4 brands to its children’s catalogue. Playmobil is associated with very high standards of quality and creativity, so for Super 4, we will aim to attract licensing partners who will gradually launch merchandizing products that meet those standards,” explains Yann Chapellon, president and CEO of FranceTV distribution.
The 11-minute, 52-episode series will be screened this year in the Ludo slot on France 3.

eOne Expands Peppa Pig in France

Entertainment One (eOne) Licensing has expanded the Peppa Pig preschool series in France with new broadcasting and licensing deals. The show premiered on March 31 on Nick Jr. in France and broadcasts in blocks of four episodes three times a day. It has been airing on France 5’s preschool block Zouzous since February.
Giochi, which distributes Peppa Pig toys in Italy, will also become eOne’s toy partner in France. The company’s line of play sets, plush, and figurines will hit the shelves this fall. In addition, the Hachette Group will create a line of story, novelty, and activity books that will launch this summer. 


Smiley Launches New SmileyWorld Collection in China

Smiley WorldNicolas Loufrani, President of Smiley, successfully launched the new SmileyWorld collection at Chic trade show in Beijing recently together with licensee Shanghai Yihua. More than 30 Chinese media have attended the event. This winter, SmileyWorld will open 50 adult stores and 50 kids stores throughout China.

Indian Company Brings Purple Turtle to MIPTV

Purple TurtleIndian-based intellectual property (IP) development company Aadarsh Pvt. Ltd heads to MIPTV 2014 to showcase the first episode of the company’s anchor IP property, Purple Turtle, a new preschool animated property based on the popular books of the same name.
International broadcasters and possible co-production partners will be introduced to recently completed pilot at this year’s market. Currently in development for delivery next year, Purple Turtle (78 x 7 min, 3-D HD) features the world’s cutest turtle, a little guy who stands out of the normal crowd because he tends to think differently than others, or better yet, a bit “out of his shell.” 
Originally introduced at the Frankfurt Book Fair in 2012, the Purple Turtle books have been published in India, the U.S., the UK (apps), Russia, Kazakhstan, Ukraine, Latvia, Estonia, and Romania, with more than 1 million copies published to date. 


Fisher-Price Appointed Bing Master Toy Licensee

Fisher-Price Inc. has been appointed the master toy licensee for new preschool property Bing by Acamar Films.
The multi-year partnership, brokered by The Licensing Company on behalf of Acamar, will see Fisher-Price develop preschool toys, infant toys, and baby gear to launch next fall and winter. Products will include play sets, figurines, role-play, ride-ons, musical toys, wooden toys, and soft toys.
Bing celebrates the everyday realities of being a preschooler, and also cleverly speaks to the grown-ups in the life of every young child with genuine insight and subtlety. Bing dramatizes these real-life experiences in an authentic way, by celebrating the mishaps, mess, energy, and wonder with the reassuring exclamation: “It’s a Bing thing!”
This new TV adaptation is based on the books by award-winning author and illustrator Ted Dewan. The series has been meticulously developed by Acamar in partnership with both leading Irish animation studio Brown Bag Films and award-winning London-based Tandem Films.
Acamar will launch debut episodes of Bing at MIPTV and the new CBeebies-commissioned show, which will make its broadcast premiere this summer.
Acamar and TLC are developing a high-quality global publishing, brand licensing, and digital campaign for Bing, with several partners already on board. Acamar and TLC have appointed leading international children’s publisher Harper Collins to produce a major multi-format TV tie-in program for Bing as well as to re-issue the entire series of Ted Dewan’s original classic Bing books. The first of these re-issues launched in the UK in August, and the second in January, with further book launches planned for this year and next.
