LIMA Announces ​Nominees for 2017 International Licensing Awards

 The International Licensing Industry Merchandisers’ Association (LIMA) finalized the ballot for its 2017 International Licensing Awards. One quarter of the nominees, 31 companies, originate from outside the U.S., showing the expanding international reach of the awards program.

This year’s ballot includes 126 nominees from 10 countries, and were selected from more than 460 submissions. The awards program spans categories including licensing, retailing, promotion, consumer products, and more. LIMA members may cast their votes online next month. Winners will be announced at the LIMA Awards Ceremony on May 23, during Licensing Expo in Las Vegas.

Slither.io Blind Bags Now Available at Major Retailers in the U.S.

The Slither.io bendable blind bag toys, from Bonkers Toys, are now available at Target stores across the U.S. The blind bags will also debut at Toys “R” Us, Hot Topic, and other national and regional locations beginning next month. Based on the Google Play app slither.io, the first assortment features 15 mystery Slithers, including rainbow, patriotic, and ultra-rare styles.

Smiley Signs Deal to Be the Face of Rebranded M.A.D.E. Food Show

The Smiley Company is delighted to announce an exciting new promotional partnership with GL Events, one of Europe’s leading exhibition organizers.

This new partnership will see France’s major private label food industry show MDD rebranded for 2017 to M.A.D.E., with Smiley team heavily involved in creating the shows new identity.

Moose Toys Launches Disney Crossy Road Merchandise

Moose Toys announced plans for its new toy line based on the mobile game Disney Crossy Road. In the game, players hop, dodge, and slide their way through busy lanes of traffic. Since its launch a year ago, it has been downloaded more than 31 million times.

 The initial collection from Moose Toys will feature Disney and Pixar characters from the app, including Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck, Buzz Lightyear, Simba, Baymax, and more. The line will include collectible micro figures, backpack hangers, and plush, and will be available at select retailers beginning April 1.

Capsule Collection: Chinti and Parker Meets Moomin

Boat Rocker and Industrial Brothers named Fisher-Price master toy partner for the new original series Kingdom Force.
 
Kingdom Force was created by Industrial Brothers’ Matt Fernandes and will be co-produced by Industrial Brothers and Boat Rocker Studios. Boat Rocker will distribute the series internationally and manage the merchandising and licensing for the brand on all platforms, as well as lead digital and brand initiatives.
 
Kingdom Force follows a team of fearless animals who fight disaster and protect their community with the help of their individual rescue vehicles that transform into a giant super robot.

DHX Brands and Paragon Creative Launch New Design Solutions

DHX Brands, the dedicated brand management and consumer products arm of DHX Media, and their appointed design-and-build collaborator, Paragon Creative, have developed design solutions for indoor attractions, ready to take to market and featuring much-loved children’s characters from the Teletubbies, In the Night Garden and Twirlywoos.
 
Each concept brings the properties to life, featuring iconic elements from each series. Children will be able to walk amongst the Teletubbies’ Home Dome, through the Night Garden, and play with elements from the Twirlywoos’ Big Red Boat, as they are immersed in fully themed experiences.

Viacom Names Jim Gianopulos Chairman, CEO of Paramount Pictures

Viacom Inc. appointed Jim Gianopulos as chairman and CEO of Paramount Pictures, effective April 3. Gianopulos will report directly to Bob Bakish, president and CEO of Viacom.

In his role as chairman and CEO of Paramount, Gianopulos will oversee the studio’s film and television operations worldwide, including production, marketing, distribution, and all other facets. He will also set a new strategy for Paramount, including developing new content, strengthening Paramount’s slate with co-branded releases from Viacom flagship brands, and expanding the studio’s global footprint.

Gianopulos has been a leading figure in the global entertainment industry for more than 30 years. He served as chairman and CEO of Fox Filmed Entertainment for 16 years. During his tenure, he oversaw numerous box office hits including Avatar, the X-Men series, The Grand Budapest Hotel, Deadpool, and Hidden Figures. Previously, Gianopulos served as president of 20th Century Fox International. Prior to joining the company, he held senior positions at Columbia Pictures and Paramount.

Coolabi Group Appoints Lizenzwerft for Poppy Cat in Germany

Independent international media group and rights owner Coolabi Group today announces the appointment of Lizenzwerft as licensing agent for Poppy Cat (Poppy Katz) in Germany, Austria, and German speaking Switzerland.
 
Poppy Cat, based on the award-winning book series by Lara Jones, launched on UK TV in 2011 and has since been licensed to some 140 territories globally. The first series aired on KiKA in Germany from May 2015 and the second series launches on 20th April 2017.

The Jim Henson Co. Signs New Deals for Splash and Bubbles, Dot.

The Jim Henson Co. signed broadcast licensing deals with key international partners for two new preschool series, Splash and Bubbles, which airs in the U.S. on PBS Kids, and Dot., which airs in the U.S. on Sprout.
 
In Europe, Dot. was acquired by Piwi (France), Dreamia’s Canal Panda (Portugal), SVT (Sweden), Jim Jam (MENA and Benelux territories), and Israel Education Television (Israel).
 
In Canada, public broadcasters TVO (Ontario) and Knowledge Network (British Columbia) acquired the broadcast rights to Splash and Bubbles.
 
Splash and Bubbles premiered last year on PBS Kids and encourages kids ages 4 to 7 to explore the diversity and spectacle of our natural undersea world. Through humorous characters and fun-filled storylines, children learn more about the ocean and the diverse life within it.
 
Dot. premiered last year on Canada’s CBC and on Sprout in the U.S. All past episodes of the series will stream exclusively on Hulu beginning April 15. Based on the picture book by Randi Zuckerberg, Dot. follows the inquisitive and exuberant tech-savvy Dot, who embarks on hilarious adventures to satisfy her imagination, curiosity, and latest passion. Dot. is produced by Industrial Brothers in association with The Jim Henson Co. and the Canadian Broadcasting Corp. (CBC).

9 Story Distribution International Acquires New Children’s Series

9 Story Distribution International acquired three children’s series for international distribution. The acquisitions include Vivi, Ruby’s Studio, and the short series My Friend Bubbles. 9 Story plans to showcase each series at MipTV.
 
Acquired from Brazilia-based Mixer Films, Vivi follows 7-year-old Vivi and her friends, Backpack and Flashy, as they embark on magical journeys to fantastic new places. Along the way, they learn something about the world and ultimately themselves. 9 Story Distribution International acquired all international rights to the 26 x 11 minute series, excluding Latin America, where the series is set to air on Discovery Kids.
 
Created and produced by The Mother Co., Ruby’s Studio is a series designed to provide social and emotional tools to help preschoolers. In addition to the series’ full-length episodes, there are also more than 60 shorts available. Ruby’s Studio is currently streaming on Netflix (streaming video on demand [SVOD], English territories) and Amazon (transactional video on demand [TVOD], worldwide), and is available on American Public Television networks. 9 Story Distribution International acquired all rights to the series excluding English speaking SVOD and select U.S. rights.
 
Produced by TéléQuébec, My Friend Bubbles is a short series that promotes the socio-emotional and cognitive development of toddlers. The animated series follows a boy named Bubbles and his playful kangaroo friend. Each episode brings new discoveries and voyages to worlds where poetry, surprises, and make‐believe come alive. 9 Story Distribution International acquired worldwide rights to the series excluding French Canada.

Kikkoman Brings Flavor to New Markets with Licensing Agency Bradford Licensing

Kikkoman Corporation, a leading soy sauce and staple in American restaurants and households, and its master agent, Tact Communications, in association with Tokyo-based licensing consultancy, ZenWorks, announced today it has signed Bradford Licensing, a globally active brand licensing solutions company, as its licensing agency to extend the brand into new product categories in North America.

Go Tiger! Launches to Help Kids Live a Healthy Lifestyle 

Green Bambino Inc. introduces Go Tiger!, a brand that features two cubs, Tiger and Teena, who help kids make healthy choices regarding fitness, food, and fun. The cubs will debut in the Early Learning Series of the GO TIGER! books, which will be available on March 31.

Kids will find healthy tips and recipes from Tiger and Teena on gotiger.org. Additionally, on March 31, Go Tiger! will debut its first YouTube video to shed light on children’s unhealthy eating habits, with more content to follow.

Uniqlo Set to Launch Kaws x Peanuts UT Collection

Uniqlo will launch a Kaws x Peanuts collection for its Uniqlo T-shirt (UT) brand on April 28 at all Uniqlo stores nationwide as well as online. The line will feature a range of T-shirts and accessories designed by Brooklyn artist Kaws. 
 
The UT collection features a wide range of pop culture icons from around the world. The graphics simply and directly convey the individuality and moods of wearers. To date, the lineup has included collaborations with the New York Museum of Modern Art, Shochiku Kabuki, and Liberty London.
 
The Kaws x Peanuts UT Collection celebrates features Snoopy, Woodstock, and Charlie Brown. The line is available in men’s, women’s, and children’s sizes.

Ascot Racecourse Signs New Licensees in Time for Royal Ascot Event

Ascot Racecourse announced five new licensing deals ahead of its flagship racing festival Royal Ascot. Brokered by IMG, a cross-category licensee portfolio was assembled for the 305-year-old racecourse that includes Links of London, Christy, Christys’ Hats, Milly Green, and Oliver Brown.
 
The brands’ new collections will be released in May in standalone, concession, and online, as well as in high-end street retailers. They will also be available for the first time in Ascot’s new on-site retail stores, which will be managed by IMG.
 
Links of London will introduce a collection of charms, bracelets, earrings, necklaces, cufflinks, hat pins, and gifts, as part of a multi-year deal.
 
Christys’ Hats will launch a range of panamas, felts, and flat caps for men and women. Also in the fashion category, Oliver Brown will feature a range of top hats, waistcoats, formal shirts, silk ties, cashmere socks, braces, and pocket squares. In the homeware category, Christy will launch a variety of towels, picnic blankets, seat pads, napkins, tablecloths, and bath robes.
 
British designer Milly Green will release a collection of food gifts, including embossed tins of biscuits, tins of travel sweets, cylinders of biscuits, sachets of fudge, chocolate bars, caddies of tea, and sets of count teas.
 
Ascot’s on-site retail shops will be situated in three different key locations at Royal Ascot in June, with two of the shops remaining in place for seven other race meetings between May and October, including the King George VI Weekend in July and the finale to the British flat season, QIPCO British Champions Day.

Lawless Entertainment Appointed as Licensing Reprehensive for The Swan Princess

Swan Princess Partners appointed Lawless Entertainment as representatives for licensing, merchandising, and publishing for The Swan Princess brand. Lawless Entertainment will represent the property worldwide (excluding India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Myanmar, Indonesia, Thailand, SEAsia, Philippines, Greater China, and North China).
 
The Swan Princess started as a 1994 animated musical fantasy film based on the ballet Swan Lake and followed the love story of Odette, the Swan Princess, and Prince Derek. Sony Pictures Worldwide’s The Swan Princes: Royally Undercover was released this month and is the seventh film from the franchise.
 
Lawless Entertainment seeks licensing and publishing deals, as well as direct-to-retail opportunities with retailers worldwide.

Pea&Promoplast to Produce Angry Birds Promotional Plush

Customer and licensee interest in Angry Birds remains strong as licensee list grows
 
Maurizio Distefano Licensing (MD Licensing), which manages licensing for the Angry Birds brand in Italy and Switzerland, has announced that it has agreed a new global license on behalf of Angry Birds brand owner Rovio.
 
The agreement, with Italian company Pea&Promoplast, a European leader in the promotions sector, will see the creation of a number of Angry Birds promotional products, beginning with a new collection of soft toys, inspired by the wildly popular feathered heroes of video games, a hit film and a very successful licensing campaign.
 
Red, Chuck and Bomb and the full set of Hatchlings will be the stars of the Pea&Promoplast plush toys and numerous other themed Angry Birds promotional products, which will be developed by Pea&Promoplast for use in Angry Birds promotional activities alongside brand partners from various sectors.

Studio 100’s Nils Holgersson and Blinky Bill Travel to Eastern Europe

The German distribution and production company Studio 100 Media has closed an agreement with AMC Networks International – Central Europe, which will be bringing Studio 100 Media’s CGI series Nils Holgersson and The Wild Adventures of Blinky Bill to various territories across Eastern Europe such as Hungary, Romania, Moldova, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Ex-Yugoslavia including Serbia, Montenegro, Macedonia, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Kosovo, Croatia, and Slovenia. AMCNI CE has acquired the exclusive rights to distribute the shows via cable, satellite and terrestrial television.  Both shows will be completed in summer 2017 and will premiere on Minimax from June 2017 onwards.

Turner’s Short Series Lamput Wins Big at FICCI

The original series, which features a gooey orange nutcase that outwits a pair of hapless doctors, has received praise for its ability to tell multiple stories and inspire laughter.
 
Lamput is created by Mumbai-based Vaibhav Studios and has been on-air, online and on-app since 2016 in Asia Pacific on Cartoon Network and POGO, and worldwide on Boomerang, Turner’s second flagship kids channel.
 
Mark Eyers, Chief Content Officer for Turner’s Kids Networks in Asia Pacific, commented: “We couldn’t be happier for this little orange character who has truly sparked to life over the last year to delight kids everywhere. Smash-Hit Rainbow Show Ready for German Debut

Maggie & Bianca Fashion Friends – the new live-action show from Rainbow – will soon hit screens across Germany, Austria and Switzerland thanks to a broadcasting deal with Disney Channel GSA.
 
The series is Rainbow’s first full live-action production and tells the story of Maggie - an ordinary American girl with a dream of becoming the world’s greatest fashion designer, and Bianca - a self-proclaimed Italian ‘princess’.
 
The show is huge in Italy, where it has screened on Rai Gulp since August 2016, always in a prime-time slot. Netflix also screens the show on a global level, along with Gulli in France, Karousel in Russia, and TV Cultura in Brazil.

    • Ensure adherence to internal approval process (i.e. safety, quality, financial, legal, content, creative, consumer activation, consumer affairs etc.) and assist in resolving issues.
  • Negotiate new licensed strategic partnerships for assigned segments in conjunction with established category strategies
    • Research, secure and develop new licensees building upon the success of existing segments in order to achieve predictable, profitable and sustainable growth
    • Negotiate deal terms including: grant of rights, royalty rates, guarantees, projections and business plans
REQUIREMENTS:
  • 7 years’ experience in licensing or consumer marketing work for a CPG company.
  • Bachelors’ degree preferred

I have 8 years experience of working for a large London Publishing house licensing book content to third parties. I am looking for a role which utilises my skills in negotiation and relationship building and can develop my experience within the licensing field. Having licensed book content to a wide variety of customers from national Newspapers to international Publishers I would relish the experience to work in a new industry, licensing new content to new clients.
 
I realise that a move across from traditional publishing may mean a step down from the managerial role I was in before. I'm enthusiastic to work in a new industry and feel my skills are easily transferable and am happy to look outside licensing roles also.
