Summit Partners with CafePress for Divergent Merchandise
 

CafePress Inc. and Summit Entertainment have joined forces to offer a collection of user-created merchandise inspired by the film Divergent available online.
 
More than 49,000 products are now available on CafePress.com featuring designs inspired by the story of a futuristic Chicago whose inhabitants are defined by factions: Abnegation, Amity, Candor, Dauntless, and Erudite. eKids Introduces Muppets Most Wanted Headphones in Time for Film

eKids has released Kermit the Frog products to coincide with the release of the new Muppets Most Wanted movie. The over-the-ear headphones feature soft cushion and an adjustable band for a customizable fit, while the earbud headphones feature noise-isolating ear tips in a variety of sizes and includes a travel pouch and an inline volume control. The portable speakers securely hold an iPod in a lightweight zippered case. The accessories are available at eKids.com.

SPCP Seeks Licensing Partners for Smurfs Movie

Sony Pictures Consumer Products is seeking licensing partners in all categories in anticipation of the newest Smurfs movie, in theaters next summer. The first two Smurfs movies made a combined $910 million worldwide. Kelly Asbury, animation industry veteran, will direct the third movie.

Activision and McDonald’s Partner for Happy Meals

Activision Publishing and McDonald’s have teamed up for new Skylanders collectible toys in Happy Meals. From March 28 to April 24, participating McDonald’s restaurants in the U.S. and Puerto Rico will launch a new Skylanders Happy Meal featuring eight toys inspired by Skylanders Swap Force.
 
Participating McDonald’s restaurants will offer customers who purchase a Happy Meal one of eight toys to add to their collections, each with a unique play feature, as well as coupons for $10 off the Skylanders Swap Force Starter Pack and $1 off a Skylanders character.

CBS Consumer Products, Federation of Beer Reveal Star Trek-Branded Beer

CBS Consumer Products and The Federation of Beer will create a new Star Trek-branded beer, Klingon Warnog. The brew will be revealed at the Nightclub & Bar Show in Las Vegas on March 25. Tin Man Brewing Co. in Evansville, Indiana will brew the beer under license. The flavor will consist predominantly of blended rye malt and clove with the aroma of mild banana and clove. The beer will ship in the U.S. and Canada this year.

Sofia Vergara Launches Fragrance for Women on HSN

Sofia Vergara will launch her first scent, Sofia by Sofia Vergara. The floral fragrance is an extension of the Vergara lifestyle brand and was constructed with perfumer Bruno Janovic. The scent combines the aroma of blackberries, plums, violet, and Columbian rose, just to name a few. The fragrance will make its debut on HSN on April 24 and will be available at retailers nationwide in September.

Waste Management Teams Up with Reynolds and Duro

Waste Management, North American provider of integrated environmental solutions, has teamed up with Reynolds and Duro Bag Manufacturing Co. for a line of trash and recycling bags available exclusively at Walmart. Both deals were brokered by The Joester Loria Group.
 
The Waste Management recycling bags by Duro Bag Manufacturing are made of post-consumer recycled material and are available in 13 gallon eight-packs and 30 gallon six-packs. They feature fun and informative graphics on the bag, designed to demonstrate what household items can be recycled.
 
Waste Management trash bags by Reynolds are available in two sizes: 13 gallon Tall Kitchen bags and 30 gallon Large Trash Bags. The bags are made from 65 percent recycled plastic and offer consumers a durable green choice option.

KISS and Epic Rights Partner for New Global Merchandise, Branding, and Digital Media Program

Epic Rights has entered into a multi-year merchandise, licensing, e-commerce, and digital media agreement with legendary rock band KISS. Epic Rights has joined forces with Paul Stanley and Gene Simmons to build the KISS global franchise in a highly integrated manner through a combination of touring, music sales, merchandise, licensing, social media, and promotional partnerships.
 
In addition to full branding, marketing, and licensing services, Epic Rights will provide full-service music merchandising, including concert merchandise, retail/licensing, VIP ticketing, and fan experiences, as well as managing music artists’ official websites, online shops, and social media.

Zeenie Dollz Premieres Animated Web Series on Earth Day

The makers of Zeenie Dollz, in collaboration with Brandberry, will launch a new animated webisode series introducing their six “eco-warriors.” The Zeenies, Zennia, Yana, Evee, Kazumi, Lina, and Sini, will protect planet Earth’s skies, forests, oceans, and mountains. The webisodes will serve as an educational tool for parents to teach their children about preserving the environment, conservation, and the power of teamwork. Each webisode will be two to three minutes long and will take the Zeenies on an eco adventure.
 
The series will premiere on Earth Day, April 22, and will be available on the Zeenie Dollz website and YouTube channel.

Discovery Communications, Fuzzy Frog Launch Augmented Reality Game

Discovery Communications, in partnership with app developer Fuzzy Frog, has created Real Scary Spiders, a game that allows users to interact with a pet spider through an augmented reality experience on an app. Players can collect, nurture, and raise spiders, and will eventually unlock new breeds and learn interesting facts through game play.
 
Users can transport their spiders onto a target image in the real world, such as the cover of a magazine or wall, which uses the app’s augmented reality feature. In addition, players can purchase the Animal Planet Web Blasting Tarantula exclusively at Toys “R” Us stores nationwide to activate an additional interconnected experience within the app.
 
The Animal Planet Real Scary Spiders app is available for free across all iOS and Android digital devices.

Egmont Announces Book Program for Minecraft

Egmont has announces its 2014 book program for the online gaming property Minecraft. The specialist children’s publisher enjoyed success with its three launch titles which published in the fall of last year, with each book achieving Top 10 Bestseller list status.
 
New titles for this year will include: the Minecraft Construction Handbook and the Minecraft Combat Handbook, both available from early April.
 
Sarah Bates, Publishing Director for licensed character books at Egmont UK, commented: “Our Minecraft publishing is all about giving the Minecraft community wholly original content. Our books are unique because they are created in partnership with Mojang and Minecraft superfans. Jim Henson Licenses Farscape to BSKYB

Celebrating the 15th anniversary of Farscape this year, the sci-fi series that achieved cult status worldwide during its four-season run, The Jim Henson Co. announced that it has licensed the entire series to the UK’s BSKYB for broadcast on PICK, beginning April 21 at 6:55 p.m.
 
The original Farscape series comprises 88 one-hour episodes, fusing live-action, state-of-the-art puppetry, prosthetics, and CGI animation. In Farscape, which airs in the U.S. on the new Pivot network targeting millenials (ages 18 to 34), astronaut John Crichton assumes he'll be home in time for dinner, but a freak accident during an experimental space mission catapults him across a thousand galaxies to an alien battlefield. Suddenly, he’s trapped among alien creatures wielding deadly technology—a battle that 20th century sci-fi pop culture never prepared him for. Hunted by a merciless military race, Crichton begins his quest for home from a galaxy far, far away.

Rainbow in Collaboration with CitizenKid

Rainbow has announced a new promotional collaboration with the CitizenKid website in France that will see a Winx Club fan win a special Winx-themed trip to Italy. The month-long promotion takes place from March 21 to April 20.
 
CitizenKid is no ordinary website—and this is no ordinary competition. The lucky winner will enjoy a family weekend trip to the beautiful Riviera Romagnola in Italy, enjoying a magical Winx-themed weekend in a fairytale setting.
 
The competition is being run as part of the many Winx marketing activities that are currently taking place across the world. CitizenKid is the ideal partner for Winx Club both because of the high level of awareness it enjoys and because it shares a large part of its target audience with Winx Club. Contestants simply have to answer questions about Winx Club. The winner will then be drawn at random from the correct entries.

Aardman Extends Shaun Licensing Program

With the fourth series of Shaun the Sheep appearing on TV screens worldwide and a movie in production, Aardman continues to build the licensing program for the property across a host of core categories.
Rainbow Designs will continue to be the master toy licensee and will create a brand new product line of movie related products for spring/summer of next year. Giromax will make trading cards in Europe and Legler will create wooden toys and games. In addition, Walker Books is the new publishing partner for Shaun the Sheep The Movie books, including activity books and a junior novel.

Atlantyca Announces Plush Deal for Geronimo Stilton

Atlantyca Entertainment is teaming with one of Italy’s leading toy manufacturer’s, PTS LTD to bring Geronimo Stilton Classic characters to a range of new plush dolls. 
 
PTS will launch the Geronimo Stilton Classic branded items in June in specialty stores throughout Italy. The plush will be available in a variety of sizes and feature Geronimo Stilton.

Igam Ogam in DVD Deal

LMI has announced a license agreement for children's TV Property Igam Ogam with Signature Entertainment for DVDs.
 
The first Igam Ogam DVDs are scheduled for release April 14 and the show continues to perform well on Channel 5's Milkshake.
 
Discussions with potential toy and publishing partners are progressing as the show continues to build on its target audience of kids ages 4 to 9.

Children’s Service OobEdoO Launches

OobEdoO is a new preschool children’s service with premium TV content and educational features. Launching this week, it allows children to interact with their favourite TV programs letting them watch, learn and play within a safe and advertisement free environment on iOS and Android tablet and smart phone devices.
 
OobEdoO has attracted investment from numerous sources including Welsh broadcaster S4C’s commercial arm and will include a Cyw-branded section from next month, based on S4C’s children’s service, which will contain Welsh language content, programs and parental advice in Welsh. OobEdoO was founded by children’s digital specialist, Myke Crosby (founder of Bin Weevils) with Rod Henwood (responsible for the launch of 4oD) and Wyn Innes (former MD at S4CI). OobEdoO's integrated marketing campaign will include a national TV advertising campaign targeted at moms. 
 
Shows include In the Night Garden, Teletubbies, Ben & Holly’s Little Kingdom, Humf, Timmy Time, and Tractor Tom, with more titles to come soon including Bob the Builder, Fireman Sam, Thomas and Friends, Angelina Ballerina, and Pingu. A unique time control function, allows parents to set the amount of time their child can spend on the OobEdoO service.

New Partners Named for Calimero

Gaumont Animation, together with co-production partners Studio Campedelli, TV Tokyo, Kodansha and Calidra, have confirmed the launch on France’s TFOU of animated Calimero series. Studio Campedelli together with RAI have announced announce the show’s premiere on Italy’s Rai Due this week. Calimero is also scheduled to launch on Rai Yoyo later this year.
 
Meanwhile, Giochi Preziosi has signed a master toy license to develop figurines, accessories, and play sets for Europe. Other multi-territory toy partners brought by Gaumont Animation include IMC Toys, Simba-Dickie’s Nicotoy, and Androni Giocattoli.

Octonauts Teams up with Marine Conservation Society

Silvergate Media has announced that Octonauts will be partnering with the Marine Conservation Society (MCS), the charity for the protection of UK seas, shores, and wildlife. 
 
The partnership, which launches this month, will feature Octonauts in the MCS supporter magazine, on membership pack collateral and across the Society’s digital platforms. 
 
In addition, Octonauts will collaborate with MCS at some key events this year, such as the M&S Big Beach Clean Up, the Beachwatch Big Weekend, and the Ecover Blue Mile.

Planeta Junior Heads to MIP with Three Series and Discovery Partnership

Planeta Junior will participate in the MIP TV (Cannes, 7-10 April), with three animated co-productions for children with international appeal: Sendokai Champions, Bubble Bip, and Egyxos.
 
The three series have excellent quality scripts and animation which, accompanied by an integral development plan and a 360-degree strategy including licensed products, editorial program and the launch of applications for children, make them brands  which can be exploited on an international and local level.
 
Planeta Junior will also strengthen its recent agreement with Dreamworks during MIP TV.

Withit and Bare Tree Enter into Partnership

Withit and Bare Tree Media have signed a digital licensing partnership to expand the Withit family of brands across emerging digital entertainment platforms.
 
Under the new partnership, Bare Tree Media has been granted global digital licensing rights to create and place branded virtual goods and mobile apps across global online worlds and mobile platforms.
 
“We are very excited to enter into this partnership with Withit, at an early stage of the brand’s growth, cultivating a digital presence and strategy for the brand globally,” says Robert Ferrari, chief executive officer, Bare Tree Media. “The numerous characters and sub-brands of Withit's are perfect for the teen and adult markets consuming digital content on their smartphones, tablets and computers around the world.” Bare Tree Media will publish Withit virtual goods across its network of virtual worlds, text messenger platforms and other digital distribution channels on a worldwide basis. Bare Tree Media is the global leader in the creation and publishing of branded digital content in these sectors, pushing branded content to over 1.5 billion users.

Twofour Rights to Distribute Children’s TV

Twofour Rights has announced the launch of a diverse trio of titles spanning preschool, kids’ live action, and teens, making its move into distribution of children’s TV.
 
Launching at MIP TV this April will be Twofour’s CBBC ob doc, Our School, Boom Kids’ play-along game show Ludus, and Toot the Tiny Tugboat, A Toot Enterprises Production for Channel 5 and S4C, in association with Lupus Films, Cloth Cat Animation and Boom Kids. 
 
Twofour Rights is working on a pipeline of other shows to bring to MIPCOM Junior later this year. Licensing plans for the first three shows will be announced in due course.

Rainbow Highlights Future of Winx Club and Mia and me at Licensing Trade Fair

Rainbow, a world leader in the kid’s entertainment industry, will be in Bologna for the Licensing Trade Fair and Children’s Book Fair in Italy. The company will highlight news about its most successful properties: Winx Club and Mia and me. This year, Winx Club celebrates its 10th anniversary and sixth season. It has more than 500 licenses with more than 6,000 products developed each year. In addition, the third film will debut in Italy before being released globally. Mia and me has a new set of broadcasting deals, is in production for a second season, and will have a feature film to be released next year. It already has licensees in toys, books, and DVDs.

Nickelodeon and Viacom Look at Growth in Australia

Nickelodeon and Viacom Consumer Products (NVCP) held its annual upfront presentation and cocktail event on March 18 with a turnout of more than 200 guests from the Australian and New Zealand toy and licensing industry.
 
Held at Cargo Hall in Melbourne, the evening showcased NVCP’s property portfolio, recognised key retail and licensee partnerships and outlined the strategy that would help the business achieve its next stage of growth.
 
Mark Kingston, General Manager and Senior Vice President, Nickelodeon and Viacom Consumer Products Europe, Russia, Middle East, Africa, Australia and New Zealand outlined the current positioning of the business and a clear cut strategy that would propel its successful growth into the future.
 
“Nickelodeon has momentum, a dynamic plan, and – most of all – really exciting, and merchandisable content. Now more than ever, our networks and consumer products operations are in an enviable place around the globe and we have a great team, exciting properties and are aligned across our global brands and businesses.”
 
The steps outlined at the presentation included growing the preschool market by investing in Dora the Explorer, launching Paw Patrol, and other IP; leveraging the success of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles; build on SpongeBob; and strengthen relationships with retailers.
